Question: How can I get old photos that I took with a previous phone to stop becoming corrupt in Photos?
I recently looked at old pictures in Google Photos and noticed that pictures from a couple years ago…
I recently looked at old pictures in Google Photos and noticed that pictures from a couple years ago that were perfectly fine before are now becoming corrupt. Some are showing large grey blocks for half of the picture, others have a green tint to half of the picture, and some are getting random lines through the pictures. I tried what was recommended in another post of removing my account and clearing the cache, but neither of those fixed the problem. I currently have a Pixel 2 and these pictures were taken with my previous phone.
I am worried that I am going to lose these pictures (at least the uncorrupt ones) as my Photos sync across devices. Ideally, I'd like to figure out how to get my original photos that weren't corrupt back into Photos and prevent this from spreading to other pictures. This is a huge concern especially if it is going to keep spreading to my other pictures.

I tried taking those steps and I still have the corrupt photos. I have a good internet connection, I closed and re-opened the app, I have signed out and signed back in, and I have the latest version installed. I think it is potentially a bigger issue than just the app because I am seeing the same issue when I view the pictures in a browser.

Answer:
Have you been able to get in to your old account? If not I would recommend posting in the Accounts forum first as they can help you regain access to your account.
We do not have access to user's accounts in any way, but if you have already regained access to your account you can contact Google Drive support. There have been some reports of Google Drive being able to restore user’s deleted photos. Below are steps that another user posted here Steps:
- Go to Google Drive help and click on contact us.
- Select any option, but selecting Missing or deleted files is recommended. Then select Request chat option.
- IMPORTANT NOTE: Don't tell them that you are trying to restore Google Photos.
REASON: Our storage is shared across Google Drive, Gmail, Google Photos. Google Drive help is there to assist you only on Drive related queries. So, if you tell them that you are about to restore permanently deleted Google Photos, they will end the chat with giving you this product forums link which is not at all useful. Just tell them that you've accidentally permanently deleted some files in Google Drive and you need those files back
I'm not sure if this still works since Google Photos and Drive syncing was disconnected, but the Photos team does not have access to deleted files.

Answer:

In the link I submitted you can read:
In account 2: accept the invitation and activate "Add to library".
- Now all photos from the library of account 1 will be copied to the library of account 2. Deleting photos from account 1 will NOT delete the photos from account 2 after they are added to the library of account 2. Give it enough time to copy everything. It is also wise to have another backup (non-synced copy) before you start deleting from account 1.
It is important that "Add to library" is activated.

Answer:
Hello Dheeraj,
Welcome to the Google Photos Support Community.
If you've deleted them from Google Photos and want to restore them, please know that photos/videos deleted from the Google Photos library, goes to the Trash for the next 60 days. So, in case, you deleted it by mistake you can always restore it from Trash folder within those 60 days (post deletion). But, if you don't find it in Trash, probably it must have been deleted more that 60 days ago. Unfortunately, restoring your lost/deleted photos and videos from Trash is the last resort.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Also what's weird is I had an unsaved suggested album from before. I open it and saved it and it worked like a charm.
It seems like because I shared the suggested before saving it, it now will not show up... It also deleted all of the travel details that came with the suggestion (i.e. Austin to Bozeman, and the stops in between). Actually, what weird about that is I can pull up the history URL that has "auto" in the URL and it will bring up the original suggestion album with travel details, but then quickly refresh to the album without the travel details and then point to the /share/ URL. It's like I am accessing a shared album that is my own that does not really exist in my library..... SOOPER ANNOYING

I recently started using google photos and have upgraded storage as well. I uploaded my last trip's photos to google photos and deleted all from my memory card. I later figured out that there was a default setting to upload high quality files rather than original quality. Now all my videos and photos are reduced to lower resolution. Is there a way I can recover my original quality images and videos.
Answer:
Unless you can recover the images from your sd card (see this link: SD Recovery), then there is no way to get the original quality back. The reason is simply that when Google Photos stores photos or videos in compressed format the Google servers just don't contain the originals. The good news, however, is that typically there is little or no noticeable difference in quality between original and compressed (what Google calls High Quality).
Answer:
Question: Is this how product from such a name like Google should behave ?
Google should give some kind of warning or message before compressing the files and letting original quality go to trash. How would a new user who already has paid storage will come know that something like this is happening behind the scene. At least the setting for compressing shouldn't be switched on by default. You are talking about high quality images, I lost my all my 1080p videos to 360P much smaller and blurred. I don't understand how it doesn't make much difference. This is not at all acceptable.

Answer:
Hi Jared,
Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.
Could you please confirm if you can see the saved cards through the web version of Google Photos? Also, please check if they are present in the Trash of Google Photos and restore them through the below steps:
- On your computer, go to the trash.
- Place your cursor over the photo or video you want to restore, then click Done.
- At the top right, click Restore. That photo or video will be restored to your Google Photos library and added back into any albums it was in.
In the meantime, try checking them through the unsaved creations by following the below steps:
- On your computer, open photos.google.com/assistant.
- Look for cards that say things like New movie or New stylized photo.
- At the bottom, click View unsaved creations (if you don't see any of these, then you don't have any creations to see).
For more information, please check the Help Center Article on managing your assistant cards.
Hope this helps.

Question: How can I recover my google photo's
I tried to contact the expert team but i did not know how to contact that
@raghavendra gadde
Please review the following information taken from previously recommended answers in case there are any options you haven't yet tried.
1. Check your online account - photos.google.com
If your photos were successfully uploaded to your online Google Photos account they may be available there. Try visiting photos.google.com and searching for them. If you have more than one Google account, check all of them.
2. Check the trash - photos.google.com/trash
Once you delete photos from your Google Photos account, they're moved to Trash for the next 60 days. If you deleted them by mistake you can always restore them from the Trash folder within those 60 days. Here's the link explaining how to recover them from Trash. If you have more than one Google account, check the trash for all of them.
If you accessed the Trash and manually sent the photos for permanent deletion, or if the 60 days expired, there is no way to recover them from Google Photos.
3. Review other options
- if you previously used Picasa, visit picasaweb.google.com and search for your photos.
- check get.google.com/albumarchive to see if there are any hidden albums containing posts to other Google apps
- have you made any backups of the photos on your phone, camera, computer, or elsewhere?
- there is a small chance that you can restore the photos using a recover deleted photos app (Android). I haven't used them myself so have no specific recommendations. There may well be more app options if you visit the appropriate app store and try other search terms. I don't see any similar apps on the iOS store, but you could check yourself.
- If the files were deleted in Google Drive you can contact the Google Drive support team to see if the deleted files may be recovered. Use the Google Drive Contact List, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.
- If you ever shared the photos with anyone else, it's possible they may have a copy they could share back or send to you.
Good luck, unfortunately if you have looked at all the options and still can't find your photos then there are no other possibilities we can suggest, other than if you have a Google One account you can contact 1:1 Support
Regards,
Peter

my photos are showing up in my daughter's google photos and hers are showing up in my google photos. It seems to have happened when I got an email telling me I needed to backup my Google+ information. I tried doing what it said to back up my information but when I would try to exit out, it would come up with other people's google accounts so I ended up clicking on my daughter's name so I could just get out of the page I was on and now our accounts seem to be one account or something. I don't know what I did, but I want to undo it. Please help. Thanks.
Answer:
Hi Krissie,
Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Forum. It sounds like you may have turned on Partner Sharing. Can you confirm by going to Menu - > Settings -> Shared libraries. Once in that section, do you see your daughter's information appear?
Here's a bit more about Shared Libraries.
Here's also some information on how to download your photos related to the Google+ shutdown.
Hope that helps!

Question: Having same issue getting can't share an album try again later message. Does anyone have a solution?
Re-started phone, deleted and reinstalled app.
Hi Tara,
Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.
Could you please try these troubleshooting steps in a sequence and see if any help?
- Do a force restart by holding the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logoappears.
- If the application freezes or is not responding, you can force the app to close by holding the powerbutton until the red slider Slide to Power Off appears. Do not slide the slider. Instead, hold the homebutton for 5 or 6 seconds, and you should be returned to the home screen.
Lastly, you can try the below mentioned steps if all else fails:
- Go to Settings.
- Turn on Airplane Mode.
- Wait a few seconds, and turn it back off.
- Tap on the Settings icon.
- Select the General menu.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap on Reset.
- Select Reset Network Settings.
- The device will take a minute or so to reboot.
Let me know if this helps.

Let me know if this helps (and if it does please select the Recommend button below this post so that others can more easily find the solution to similar problems)
Answer:
@Tarun: No argument from me. To send a feature request directly to the Google Photos development team:
- Open the Google Photos App on a mobile device or go to photos.google.com using a computer.
- At the top left, touch or click Menu .
- Touch or click Help & Feedback.
- Select Send Feedback (at bottom).

Hi Jared,
Thanks for writing back.
Could you please try using the Google Photos app by switching the phone to Safe Mode? In Android 4.1 or later versions, to reboot into safe mode you have to long press the power button until you get the options menu which has the following options – Power off, Airplane mode, and Silent mode. After getting these options on your screen, long press the Power off button, you will be getting a message that prompts you to reboot your device to safe mode. By tapping the OK button, your device will reboot into safe mode, which will disable all third party applications you have installed. You can be sure that your device started in safe mode by seeing a safe mode indicator on the bottom left side corner of your device screen.
Keep me posted.

Hello Kathy,
Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.
To assist you better, could you please confirm if you're trying to crop/edit the picture in Google Photos on your device? If yes, let me know if you've already tired the exact steps:
- On your Android device, open the Google Photos app
.
- Open the photo you want to edit.
- Tap Edit
.
- To add or adjust a filter, tap Photo filters
. Tap to apply a filter, tap again to adjust.
- To manually change lighting, color, or add effects, tap Edit
. For more options, tap the Down arrow
- To crop or rotate, tap Crop & rotate
. To crop the photo, tap and drag the edges.
- To add or adjust a filter, tap Photo filters
- At the top right, tap Save.
Your edits will be applied to the photo, but you can undo them at any time. If your photos are not backed up, edits will be saved as a separate photo.
If that's not the case, it would be great if you can share a screenshot of the place where you don't see the edit option on your device. Also, please ensure you mask any personal and/or account information in the screenshot that you'll share.
Keep me posted.

Looking for my photos and poems
Hi Jdeb
Thanks for reaching out to the Google Photos Help Community.
I certainly understand the importance of being able to view photos on your account. Could you please confirm, if you've tried using the web version of Google Photos to find these photos?
If not, please check if the photo was deleted by checking Google Photos trash. Also, if you suddenly lost your photos, they might have a different date. If a photo is added from a device with different date and time settings, the timestamp may be wrong. Learn how to change timestamps on photos.
- On your computer, open photos.google.com/search/_tra_. Check your recent photos.
- If it's not there, search for the photo using the right dates or keywords. At the top, type what you want to find, like "dogs", "New York City", or someone's name (if you've labeled your photos).
- If your search came up empty, try other keywords or search again in 3—5 days. It can take time for photos to be searchable.

Hi Allen,
I tend to use the 1st day of the first month of the year and then my best guess as to the year. Family have all been made aware that anything that's 01-01-nnnn is likely to be an image without a precise date. I then add the date range into the description field (not into the comments section, as comments don't transfer out of Google Photos).

Answer:
Remark to Sandie:
Descriptions (captions) typed in appropriate software (like Picasa) before uploading don't get lost, but descriptions typed on Photos after uploading get lost at normal downloading by viewers.
That does not mean that anyone can read these descriptions in their downloaded files, because most popular viewers don't display them and generally most people don't study the fileproperties.
So good documentation at historic pictures stays problematic.

If you want to get a deleted item back, check your trash to see if you can get it back. If your photo or video has already been backed up and you deleted it, it will remain in your Trash for 60 days.
- On your computer, go to the trash or select Trash from the menu in the app.
- Select the photo or video you want to restore.
- At the top right, click Restore
. That photo or video will be restored to your Google Photos library and added back into any albums it was in.

When I enable "Automatically put your Google Photos into a folder in my Drive" from the settings under Drive, the Google Photos appears in a new Google Photos folder in My Drive, but the images doesn't load organized into annual folders as they should do!
Answer:
Assuming that you have years of pictures in Google Photos, you would expect that division indeed.
But for reasons unknown that does not happen always and then you have to create the yearfolders yourself and move the files into the right folder.
In fact that is more handy then what google is doing normally, because they also create monthfolders numbered 01-12 which is a fairly useless division unless you add thousands of pictures per month.
Are you aware that this function is completely useless because it is no additional backup. So the only reasonable application is that you download (not sync) the folder to an external disc for creating a safe incremental backup for all pictures uploaded to Google Photo.
Syncing to desktop has no meaning because edits do not sync-up, but deletions do and that is dangerous.

You did not tell that, so then we always get the impression that we have to do with an unexperienced user and we go into guessings about what could be done wrong at the users side.
Because there must some mysterious reason that Google is not able to create the normal division in year- and months folder within the GP-folder and then they can't be blamed, because they will know about for years and they never have explained why.
In my own situation I had no problems, but the same problem within the account of my wife which had a normal Gmail-account also. But her collection at Photos was filled with scanned historical prints & slides and these type of files don't have correct exif information about dates and it is my guess that Google was not able to create the subdivision. So I did create the yearfolders myself and moved the files into the right year. And as soon I done that for about 200 picture a new set was loaded to get moved by me etc. etc.
So a lot of additional work, but for a limited collection.
I can't add more because this problem was already reported to Google years ago.
You are free to send an angry feedback via the main menu of Photos, but that will not solve your problem.
Sorry

That said, o send a feature request directly to the Google Photos development team:
- Open the Google Photos App on a mobile device or go to photos.google.com using a computer
.
- At the top left, touch or click Menu
.
- Touch or click Help & Feedback.

Hi Nick,
Thanks for reaching out to the Google Photos Help Community.
I certainly understand the importance of being able to view photos. Could you please confirm, if you're experiencing the same while viewing photos through the web version of Google Photos on your device? If not, please follow these steps:
- Sign out of your Google account and sign back in.
- Uninstall and re-install the Google Photos app on your device.
- Restart your iOS device.
Keep me posted.
Best,
Nadia

Hi Nick,
Thanks for writing back.
If possible, try checking the photos from another device using your Google Account to see if that helps.
Keep me posted.
Best,
Nadia

Roslyne,
Good afternoon. When viewing a picture with the Google Photos app, you can swipe up to view the Information panel. This will show you some basic information that was detected in the EXIF metadata (camera make & model, date taken, lens f-stop & aperture, shutter speed, GPS coordinates, etc.).
However, there is often additional information in a picture file's EXIF metadata that is not displayed in the Photos app. You will need to download the picture and open it in a third-party image program that's capable of displaying the EXIF in its entirety. This assumes, of course, that there is actually EXIF metadata to display. Not all pictures contain such metadata, particularly if the file is a copy of the original that has been altered by an image-editing app (many of these apps strip out the metadata when the edited version is saved).
When you say "including contacts" I'm not sure what you mean... Some professional photographers choose to add their name and contact info or email address to their pictures, and that info is an example of what you might find when examining a photo's EXIF details in a third-party program. Otherwise, there's nothing about any contacts that can be discerned from a picture file.
Regards,
~ Greg
