I'm using Google Drive File Stream. All my photos go into the "Google Photos" folder. There are too many photos for Windows to happily manage, so opening the folder just makes for a bad time. I'd rather have photos organized in a year > month > day folder format. And I see some people get this. But I have no idea how to turn it on or get things to go into folders.
Answer:
Hi Paul,
Thanks for reaching out to the Google Photos Help Community.
Please know that, photos and videos on Google Photos will be backed up as individual photo/video and not as albums/folders. However, you may create an album on Google Photos by following the steps in this help centerarticle.
Also, there isn't a filter on Google Photos to sort photos according to the folder they were backed up from. However, please feel free to share your feedback following these simple steps:
- Go to photos.google.com.
- At the top left, open the Menu
, then select Send feedback.
Let me know if you have any additional questions.
Best,
Nadia
Answer:
So once a folder is created and the photos are moved into that folder, how can you delete them from the main photos area without deleting them from the folder? Duplicate photos all over the place is super annoying. However when I delete from the main photo area, it removes the photo from the album I put it in. I want to move the photo to the album I put it in.

Recent changes to the Google Photos API means that I can no longer utilize the images in my Google Photos account. I need to delete them (~60,000) from the account, but I need to keep the account in place. I can't find any way to mass delete the photos, only in batches of 100 at a time. Since NOBODY has ten hours to spare hitting delete over and over, how does one delete the contents of their Photos account?
Answer:
What do you mean with "I can no longer utilize the images in my Google Photos account".
If the problem is in some third party app using the obsolete API for Picasaweb, you just need to wait for a decent upgrade to the new Photos API and the app may work much better then before.
But apart from that: the images at Google Photos do not need to take any storage, so there is no reason to delete all. If you use the Recover storage option, they all get compressed to High Quality and that still is a very usefull quality for most applications and for viewing Photos itself.

Answer:
The problem is that Google Photos has stopped using static URLs and my home-built scripts no longer function correctly. I strongly doubt there will be a "fix" for this because they wouldn't have moved to dynamic, expiring URLs without a purpose. I have been with Google Photos each step of the way since the purchase of Picasa. Google took a beautiful product then slowly and continuously strangled it. What a mess.
The 60,000 photos I have are valuable to me and if I can't use them inside the Google service then I don't want them sitting there anymore. It seems that with other Google services you can just go into your settings and close that individual service... but for some reason they have not allowed that for Google Photos.
I guess I will have to manually delete everything. Please pull your heads out of your asses, Google.

I can go to settings and then apps to access the app. But the icon has disappeared from my home screen on my cell phone. And when I went to the Google play store it let me update the app but did not put the icon back nor did it give me an option to put it back. I hated to uninstall the app and reinstall in case I lost my photos.
Answer:
Hi Shauna,
Welcome to the Google Photos Community
Your question is not really related to the Google Photos app, it is more related to Android and how the Apps are stored in a common page. For example my phone has a small arrow pointing up near the bottom which shows every app icon and I can long press and move the icon to get the choice to put it on the home screen. Or it may be in a Google folder on the home screen.
If that doesn't apply to your device, you will probably have more success at the Support site for your particular model of phone or at: Android Help

I'm sorry to hear about your missing photos did you ever see the photos in another location, such as on the photos.google.com website or the app on another device? Most likely they were never backed up or were backed up to a different account.
In this screenshot - the cloud/slash icon means these photos are stored on the phone and are not in the cloud (for the Google account currently being viewed at least).
In this next screenshot, the circular arrow icon means that these pictures are stored on the phone and are waiting to be copied to the cloud. (aka waiting to be backed up)
Once photos are all backed up, there will no longer be an icon on the photo.

Question: How do I get my photos from Picasa web ablums to my SeagateMedia hard drive? I'm old and would real
Transfer photos from Picasa to Seattle hard drive
Hi @Paul,
All of your photos will be available to download in Google Photos now.
You can download all of your photos using Google Takeout and select the Google Photos toggle only. You can find instructions on the help centre.
Answer:
Basically Kim is correct, but using Google Take-out is a drama and it also is not automatically clear if your webalbums are available on Google Photos either.
So in first place: your pictures normally are stored on your (old) computer, so if the Seagate is connected, they main folders can be copied that the external disc without much troubles and then you are ready. Maybe you need to clean-up your old computer before trashing him, but that's your business.
If the pictures are on Picasaweb mainly, the problem is that Picasaweb does not exist anymore since 2016.
So you need to log-in to the archive that Google has left at https://get.google.com/albumarchive with the account you have used in these years in Picasa. But Picasa itself can't connect to the web anymore since May.
If you see your old webalbums there, can open the first album and then you will find the download-option under the 3 dots right-up. That download will be a zip-folder which must be unpacked to get a normal folder which can be copied to the Seagate. And the zip can be deleted thereafter. Etc. etc.
Then you will get normal picturefolders without the enormous additional rubbish Google Take-out may produce.
Answer:
Thanks so much for the replies. I'm using an iPad. On my iPad I still have the Picasa web albums app. In that app I can still see all,the photos. I would like to transfer all of these photos to a wireless Seagate hard drive. I just don't know how to do it.
Answer:
You should have told that immediately, because such apps are not common sense. But it is simply impossible to connect your Seagate to your iPad unless wireless and even then????
So if you have no laptop, I can't tell you how to do what you want and probably nobody here.

Answer:
Hello Raffi,
Thanks for stopping by the Google Photos Help Community.
As you're facing crashing issues with Google Photos on your device, I'd suggest you try some of these basic troubleshooting steps one after the other, on your phone to narrow down the possibilities:
1. Sign out from your Google account and sign in back.
2. Uninstall and reinstall the Google Photos updates. (Go to Settings > Apps or Application Manager > Google Photos app > Uninstall Updates > OK). As long as you have a strong Internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data), your Play Store app will update to the latest version within a few minutes.
3. Try clearing your app data which is the same as uninstalling and reinstalling the app. After you clear your data, sign in and turn "back up & sync" on again.Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
After you clear your data, sign in and turn "back up & sync" on again.Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
a. Tap Apps.b. SelectPhotos in the list.
c. Tap Clear data.
4. Restart your device.
Let me know if this helps.

I am unable to update Google Photos app on HTC One M7 device that runs Android 5.0.2, app version 3.13.
All the higher versions either start showing grey boxes instead of thumbnails, or don't sync any pictures at all.
Obviously, I have installed, uninstalled the app many times, cleared the app cache, cleared the application data, did even factory reset and formatted storage, installed the app in Android Safe mode, but nothing seems to help. All the latest app version result even in application crash (Reinstall Photos app). The only version which seems to work is any 3.13.x version. Is this any kind of known issue which will be ever fixed ? There seems to be quite many similar posts. Besides that, If I run the app on any some older device with Kitkat, it works like a charm even with the app update.
It's also worth mentioning, that if there are just grey boxes instead of thumbnails, I can open videos and play them, but I can't open any picture. Those seem to be stuck when getting the content from the service.

Hi Radim,
Things like these are hard to find a solution for with so many device types and version numbers.
Have you tried sideloading the app from: https://www.apkmirror.com/?post_type=app_release&searchtype=apk&s=google+photos
If this doesn't work it may just be that the latest version of the app isn't compatible with your phone.

Hello Mark,
Thanks for the suggestion. Indeed, I tried that one too. I am using this mirror site when downgrading the app to the version which is still compatible with the device.
I thought that this is fairly common issue but I didn't manage to find a solution that would work. I have seen some other posts complaining about version upgrade indicating that 3.12, 3.13 versions were the last one which are compatible with most devices.
If there was at least a way to stop getting the version upgrade prompt when launching the Photo app. It's a bit annoying :(

Answer:
Hi Mo B,
I would first check the trash. It may be still in there if you have deleted it recently.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app
.
- At the top left, tap Menu
Trash
.
- Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
- At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
- In your phone
- Into the "Photos" section of the app.
- Into any albums it was in.
Answer:
Thanks Kim for your replay.
There is nothing in trash because I didn't delete anything.
The edited version saved over original version.
Answer:
Hi Mo,
When editing a video in Google Photos, it creates a duplicate of the original and does not save over the original. Can you see the original video in your Google account?
The other option is that it is sitting in your phone's gallery. Try and open your phone's default Gallery app, and see if you can find the original photo there. Maybe there are 2 files but the Google Photos app only displays one for you?
Answer:
I'm sorry Kim, but there is nothing. I just found edited version.
let us assume the original video was deleting. How can I recover the video?
Thanks
Answer:
Hi, so i had the same issue with a photo but the solution i found might work for your video.
1.On your device, open Google Photos.
2. Open the photo or video you edited.
3. Tap Edit (has 3 bars icon). Next, on the top right of the video/picture there are 3 vertical dots. Click on the More icon ( 3 dots) and then click Undo edits.
4. When you're done, tap Save.
Hope that helps.
Answer:
Please help.my video deleted after I edited on google and i clicked the save copy option. Only the trimmed version remains , I can't find it anywhere , what can I do?????? It was a really long video and I need it back

I have the same problem for at least a month. I was chatting with at least two Google specialist who said they needed to escalate the issue. They also said the lens specialist would get back to me via email. Well, it's been 2 weeks and no response! Great app but what is the use when it does not work and Google does not follow up with any resolution.

Answer:
Answer:
Sorry, it's a bit of a catch 22 situation, is it Drive or Photos? I don't know enough to understand how ownership can be transferred so am unable to reproduce. Google Photos do not provide user support to individuals so there is no one I can ask. All I can suggest is that you create new folders and transfer the photos to them. Wish there was more I could do, Peter

Answer:
Hi @La Ko,
There are two ways you could do this. The first is to:
- select all the photos you want in Google Photos
- Click the 3-dot menu
- Select 'Download'.
If you are looking at downloading ALL of your photos, you could use Google Takeout and select just Google Photos.

Hi Kelly,

>>>> Are they notified if I view photo without joining album
Yes they probably are if you are on a device logged on as you.
If you paste the link into an Incognito Window in the Chrome Browser you are PROBABLY ok.
Good luck!

Answer:
Hi Kelli and Peter,
Peter is definitely correct if the sharing is done via a link (which looks similar to dummy link https://photos.app.goo.gl/2ZeeJ3xFsfdfMfepvfN6).
It is a little more confusing if somebody shared an album with you via your Google Account or Gmail. Honestly it is so confusing I am not positive that I remember the details from testing 10 minutes ago and will make no attempt to remember or document it for myself (because they are really corner cases which may be impacted by variables which I am not even considering)..
Don't take this as gospel... but I believe:
- Opening an Album created as a "Shared Album" and shared to a Google Account ~Autojoins~ you and the originator gets a notification.
- Opening an Album NOT created as a "Shared Album" but subsequently shared will Join you to the album and notify the originator if you click the ~Continue as username~ button.
Note: My advice to use an Incognito Window would not work anyway with either of the two bullets above.
TL;DR Viewing and album via a Link and not joining will not create a notification, the behavior of other types of sharing can be more nuanced.
Best regards, Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user)

Answer:
Hi Toby,
The safest way to do this would be to uninstall or log out of Google Photos on your phone, then delete everything from Google Photos at Photos.Google.com
This way there's no chance for the app to sync these changes to your phone and delete your photos. You can also do this by disabling back up and sync on your phone but I just wanted to be sure.

Answer:
Hi there,
Sorry this is happening.
So you mentioned that you turned Backup & Sync OFF on your account but NEW photos that you take are still showing up when you go to https://photos.google.com on the web?
This should not be happening and I don't think it is possible with the setting set to OFF.
However, if you mean that you turned Backup & Sync OFF in the app and the older photos that you took are still on the account at https://photos.google.com then that is correct. Turning Backup & Sync OFF won't remove the already backed up photos from your account.
If you want to do that, the safest way is to navigate to Google Photos
on the web at https://photos.google.com and sign in with the account where you want to remove the photos.
Please make sure you have them backed up to your other Google account first though so that you don't lose any data.
Hope this helps!
Thanks,
Kyle

Answer:
Thank you, Peter, for your answer,
In our case: Yes, they are physically stored. But they are stored in folders that were initially owned by others and then transferred the ownership of the folder to us. What I find in the google photos help is that the container folder on the google drive just must be owned by us, but it seems that the "real" condition is that we should own and have created the folder (because otherwise google photos will not find it). I wonder if this is a google photos bug.

If you want to get a deleted item back, check your trash to see if you can get it back. If your photo or video has already been backed up and you deleted it, it will remain in your Trash for 60 days.
- On your computer, go to the trash or select Trash from the menu in the app.
- Select the photo or video you want to restore.
- At the top right, click Restore
. That photo or video will be restored to your Google Photos library and added back into any albums it was in.
- You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
- You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
- You permanently deleted it from your trash.
- You permanently deleted it from your device’s Gallery app, without backing it up first.
Answer:
There have been some reports of Google Drive being able to restore user’s deleted photos. Below are steps that another user posted here Steps:
- Go to Google Drive help and click on contact us.
- Select any option, but selecting Missing or deleted files is recommended. Then select Request chat option.
- IMPORTANT NOTE: Don't tell them that you are trying to restore Google Photos.
REASON: Our storage is shared across Google Drive, Gmail, Google Photos. Google Drive help is there to assist you only on Drive related queries. So, if you tell them that you are about to restore permanently deleted Google Photos, they will end the chat with giving you this product forums link which is not at all useful. Just tell them that you've accidentally permanently deleted some files in Google Drive and you need those files back
I'm not sure if this still works since Google Photos and Drive syncing was disconnected, but the Photos team does not have access to deleted files.

Do you have preferences backing up All files and folders or just photos and videos. If all files you can use Advanced and exclude DWG extensions.
