Question: Can i get all photos to this device ever downloaded, take,or sent, or deleted to this devices ever

Never completely for sure.
  1. Photos taken may still be stored on your phone, but it is not clear from your poor information if they ever have been stored ("backupped") at Google also: see photos.google.com and log-in with your account.
  2. Photos deleted may still be in thrash under the 3 small lines of the Photos-app, unless the deletions were more then 60 days agoo.
  3. Photos downloaded may still be in the Download-folder or in the Camera-folder: see Album page in the Photos-app under Pictures on device.
  4. Photos or albums shared via the Photos-app may still be in the list on the Shared page in the app.
  5. Photos sent by mail may still be found in the Sent-box of the Gmail-app.
  6. Photos sent by any asocial media app may still be found in those apps.
  7. Etc. etc.
Good luck but strange question.

Answer:

Sounds like you're asking about photos received and sent via texting or other messaging apps, Google Photos does not keep a record of photos received in other apps unless you save them to your device and back them up, same with photos sent via other apps.

Rinus has given a little more info on where you can find photos

I have problem with my google space, as I am over 15 GB (it says 16.8 GB) and my free 100 GB space is ending 27th of July. I deleted some bigger files and photos, but it still says 16.8 GB used.

Also, another problem is, that I have checked the options to upload photos into free space with smaller file size, but it seems it counts all of them to my normal drive space.

I don't know what to do to not loose my files and photos.

Answer:

Hi
Support :

"Reduce the size of your photos and videos"
If you have photos in Original quality and want to save some space, change your already backed-up photos and videos to High quality. This setting will not appear if you don't have any photos in Original quality.
  1. On a computer, go to photos.google.com/settings.
  2. Click Recover storage. This will not change the quality of your future uploads.
Photos or videos you've uploaded using Google Drive, or your Pixel phone will not be changed to High quality. But it will change any photos or videos you've uploaded on:
  • Blogger
  • Google Maps
  • Google Photos
  • Google+
  • Hangouts
  • Panoramio
  • Picasa Web Albums
  • YouTube Web Channel Art .

Normally towards Google into the account chosen in the backupsettings of the Photos-app.
Then you also should see them in your browser at photos.google.com when you log-in with the same account.

I downloaded the google photos app on my phone. I wanted to sync it up google home mini and Cromecast set up. During which a number of my photos were uploaded to google photos - I stopped this asap as I only wanted a select few uploaded. I couldn't get it to work with my google home and Cromecast what not, so I deleted the photos and uninstalled the app. The photos were deleted from my phone and I tried to recover them by installing the app and looking on google photos on my computer but they were gone from the bin.

Answer:

That kind of behavior prevents any glorious viewing via the Home-app.

You will need built-up a library in Google Photos first and from that library you can select a number of nice picture to create an album (don't delete the library thereafter else your album will get empty).
And then you can select that album in the Home-app.
You also can leave the selection to Google or mark good pictures with a star to get them assembled in the Favorites-album on top.
My 2018-album contains over 1000 carefully selected and neatly edited pictures and Chromecast will show a random selection of about 100 of them and that selection changes slowly over time.

Answer:

@Courtney: You say that the images are gone from "the bin." Do you mean that they are not in photos.google.com Trash? Was the deletion you mention more than 60 days ago? You should check the Google Photos App Trash on the phone itself even if you need to reinstall the App again. It's possible that the images you deleted were never backed up and appeared on your phone's App only because they were available locally.

Let me know if this helps (and if it does please select the Recommend button below this post so that others can more easily find the solution to similar problems).

When I was notified by Verizon on 6/3/18 I turned OFF my Mobile Data because Google Photos had used 76.10 mb of data in the Foreground. Despite the data being completely turned off the Google Photos app used an additional 1.5 gb of data between 6/3/18 and 6/23/18. So from 5/25/18 to 6/26/18 Google Photos used 6gb+ of data!  Google needs to reimburse the $200 that Verizon charged for the over limit charges!

Answer:

Hello Nicole,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.

Please know that the setting that says 'Cellular data backup' is only for your content (photos/videos) to back up and this link shows the mobile date usage when you access, download and view your photos/videos within Google Photos on you mobile date connection. The more Google Photos is accessed (not back up/sync) without WiFi, the more data will be used.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Amanda

The pre-grouped albums PLACES and THINGS are empty. It happens in Android and PC. Photos in muy library are geotagged. App data cleared. I archived some photos one month ago, then unarchived them. Now all the photos sre in the library but PLACES and THINGS are not working. But FACES works fine.

Answer:

Hi Ignacio,

Do you possibly accidentally turn Face Grouping off? Could you please check that this is still turned on?
To add a label for a pet or person try the following steps:
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. Tap Menu and then Settings and then Group similar faces.
  4. Turn Face grouping off or on.
    • To turn off face grouping only for pets, turn off Show pets with people.
If you turned this off recently and then turned it back on, it will take some time for Google's system to re-categorise everything. I would give it 2-3 days before it gets through all your photos again to list them.

Answer:

Addition:
Places & things are reorganised at Google, so just have some patience - they will come backs unless you only have pets left :-)

Answer:

Hi! As I said, FACES is working fine. No problem with that. But PLACES and THINGS are not working, are empty.
I have waited a month so they should be working...

Answer:

I have "waited" two months before the "Remember this day" editions did come back spontaneously.

But Places & Things will not come back as a kind of albums, but as dedicated searchresults. So if you type the name of a well known place to you, you will see how these collections will be shown in future.
Then you can start to make real albums from these results yourself.

In the Places album all the places I have been, and the album Things 117 groups of things appear to me! Whereby and unless someone from Google has done something, it's just about waiting and being patient. In my case it has been longer than people say, but it is that I have many, too many photos 😅 Thanks to all for the help 👏👏👏

what problem did you have? Prior to the problem did you ever visit the photos.google.com website to check whether all the photos were there?

I recommend that you look for your photos here, signing in with all your Google accounts if you have more than one:
  • photos.google.com
  • photos.google.com/archive
  • photos.google.com/trash
  • get.google.com/albumarchive
  • drive.google.com
  • other online photo or file storage services you use (e.g. Dropbox, OneDrive, Verizon, Amazon)
I also recommend that you go through these steps for troubleshooting missing photos https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6306652

Question: Retrieve all photos I shared in past year please

Recover all deleted photos that I have shared and deleted since November 2018

If you want to get a deleted item back, check your trash to see if you can get it back. If your photo or video has already been backed up and you deleted it, it will remain in your Trash for 60 days.
  1. On your computer, go to the trash or select Trash from the menu in the app.
  2. Select the photo or video you want to restore.
  3. At the top right, click Restore Restore. That photo or video will be restored to your Google Photos library and added back into any albums it was in.
Don't see the photo or video? If a deleted photo or video isn't in trash, you can’t restore it. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
  • You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
  • You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
  • You permanently deleted it from your trash.
  • You permanently deleted it from your device’s Gallery app, without backing it up first.

I cannot access my Google photos. When I do a message block comes up saying, photos has stopped: then I guess with the option to stop app or send feedback and neither one seems to work

Answer:

Hi Teresa Durham!
You can clean up the data and reinstall the Photos app.

You can also delete application data:
Google Play Services and Google Photos.
To do this: select Settings - Apps - Services Google Play - delete data, namely data, even if there is a warning, they need to be deleted;
Then select the Google Photos application, and delete the data.
After that, delete the cache in the Storage section.

When you see a warning, then do not worry. This is a common procedure for cleaning applications in the device, and the very memory device. This will delete the data that is working incorrectly, and cleaning will allow to have correct data.

Also you can reinstall the application: delete the application or its updates: Open Settings - Applications - Photos - delete; or remove updates. After that, clear the cache in the Storage section. Then you go to the Play Store and download the Photos application again or update it

According to the help center ,the icon appears on their profile picture when they have a google photos account . If this is , does that mean they deleted their entire google account ? I ask this because long time ago I wanted to also deactivate my google photos account but retain my other google services . I may pursue this but I ask how were they able to achieve this , assuming there is a way

Answer:

I'm not sure why the icon disappeared, maybe just you haven't shared with those people recently. If you have a Google account, then you have all Google services whether you use them or not. There's no way to deactivate just one Google service while keeping your account active overall

Hi!
I uploaded Canon CR2 RAW files (550D) to Google Photos. On web/desktop, everything works fine. I can edit images and apply filters.
On the Android app, after saving an edited RAW file, Google Photos creates a duplicate file. The new file is still a .cr2 file, but now only 4.4MB instead of the original 17.4MP. I can't revert edits on the new file. It doesn't remember which filter was applied.

How can I solve this?

I've got the latest version of the Android app (3.23.0.200631752).

Answer:

Hello Nikolas,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.

Google Photos has identical duplicate detection, where if you have uploaded photos to Google Photos already, it will not re-upload the same photo (each photo file has a unique "Hash" that allows us to determine this).

Hence, Google Photos avoids uploading duplicates, when different upload methods or devices are used, as long as the photos aren't edited. There is no easy way to remove duplicates, but some of the following may help:
  1. You can delete duplicates manually, for example in https://photos.google.com/ where they should be next to each other.
  2. The problem is however which one to delete:
    • one photo may be edited, the other not,
    • one photo may be in an album, the other not.
  3. When the upload dates are different (for example when you uploaded long ago via Picasa, and now again using the Desktop uploader). It may be easier to delete the duplicates in https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ where they are sorted by upload date.
  4. There are more ways to get a useful search result, for example the device from which they are uploaded.
  5. See https://sites.google.com/site/picasaresources/Home/Picasa-FAQ/google-photos-1/how-to/how-to-search-for-photos
  6. Since very recently it is possible to delete photos directly from an album. Go to "More options" (3-dots icon), and use "Move to trash"
  7. When you uploaded in the free "High Quality" and have your photos in albums, it may be wiser to simply ignore the duplicates in the library.
Unfortunately, a feature to sort and delete duplicates of photos with Google Photos that are already backed up doesn't exist. You may have to manually select the duplicates and delete them.

Meanwhile, also try giving the below steps a try once again in a sequence to help resolve the issue:
  • Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
  • Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
  • Clear App data:
    • Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
    • Touch Apps.
    • Select Google Photos in the list.
    • Touch Clear data.
  • Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
    • Visit the Google Play Store.
    • Open Google Photos.
    • Touch on Update.

Question: No photos in library help pls

Changing settings

Hello annie,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.

Are you referring to no photos in the Google Photos library? If yes, are you logged in to Google Photos with your Google account? It can be possible that the photos weren't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon  (which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.

Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.

In case, you are uploading a large amount of data (photos/videos), please know that it might take 24-48 hours for the photos and videos to sync across all devices. Please ensure to have 'Backup & sync' enabled on the Google Photos settings while you're backing up your photos and videos. To check is the content is backed up, login in to photos.google.com to checked for your backed up photos and videos.

However, if you're sure they were backed up, I recommend you looking for your video here:
If a photo/s is deleted from Google Photos, it would go to Trash/Bin for the next 60 days (after deletion). Unfortunately, if the photos aren't found in Trash or deleted from Trash, I'm afraid, you might not find them else where to recover them because Trash is the last resort to retrieve your lost/deleted photos.

Meanwhile, also try giving the below steps a try once again in a sequence to help resolve the issue:
  • Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
  • Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.

Answer:

@ajay...

Takeout for Photos should contain both .jpg files and .jpg.json files for the same photo. The .json files may contain additional info added in Google Photos, like Description, location etc. More info in this link

When downloading large quantities the .json and .jpg files may be in different packages. See "Recommended answer" above.

There are also other download methods, especially for albums. See this link.

- not using takeout
- instead I downloaded Google application in my computer, and tick the option of sync pictures from Google pics into my computer. Take definitely longer (1 night, I managed to get 2,500 photos only)
But very practical and no-sub folders unlike with Takeout

@ajay...

Answer:

I've been having the exact same problem only some jpg but majority jpg.json files, been trying to search for a solution online for HOURS until I FINALLY found the Solution.

My case : I have 7k+ photos which I downloaded into 10 separate zip files at 2GB each. The problem occurs when you extract each zip file separately (ex: extract zip 1-3  first then extract zip 4 then extract zip 5-6 so on..).

Solution : All you need to do is to extract ALL ZIP FILES TOGETHER, in my case 1-10 and now I am able to see both jpg and jpg.json files. Hope your problem can be solved too!

@Kathy F
You correctly described how to download from the library https://photos.google.com/
More download options, like downloading albums, are described in this article.

Answer:

Hi Gloria,

Welcome to the Google Photos Product Help Forum.

Assuming:
1. You are using Windows 10, and
2. You are certain that the SD card is not visible in the File Explorer when you plug it into your computer,

You might want to try Method 1 and Method 2, in this post:

If you have access to a different computer with an SD card slot, you might try it.

It could be a software (driver) or hardware (SD port or adapter) issue.

Good luck,  Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user)

I'm trying to change the business address where I work, as we moved recently. I'm receiving notifications that I've made edits, but instead of it being an address change, Google tells me that I've reported the business as closed (I have not). It also now seems to think there are two separate businesses for the same name (the one with the correct address doesn't display, only the old one). I just want to change the address to the new, correct address, not add a business and I certainly don't want to report it as closed!! How do I fix this or who can I contact to resolve this?

faces not finding people that i have in hundreds of photo's, husband, son's best friend, family members, but it has random people that were in a few homecoming photos?

Answer:

Hello Tami,

I'll be happy to help you. Have you tagged/labelled her photo in the 'People' section of Google Photos? If no, here's how you can do it:

To apply label manually:
  • At the top of a person's face group, click "Who's this?"
  • Enter a name or nickname. Now you'll be able to search with that label using the search box.
Note: Only you will see the private face labels you choose, even if you share those photos.

To change or remove label:
  • At the top right of someone's face group, click More , then Edit name label or Remove name label.
Know what 'remove results' option is for:

If you see a photo that's in the wrong group, you can take it out.
  1. Open the group you want to remove something from.
  2. Select the photo you want to remove.
  3. At the top right, click More , then Remove results.
Meanwhile, also try giving the below steps a try once again in a sequence to help resolve the issue:
Also, could you try toggling the switch off & then on for face grouping in Google Photos
  • Go to Google Photos appSettings > Group similar facesFace grouping.
Note: This will not delete the photo or video from your Google Photos library. Here's a help article for your reference to know more about face grouping and adding a label. Facial recognition feature isn't restricted to region specific. Here's a help article to more on how to use it.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,
Amanda

Question: I'm unable to upload my MP3 11 gb saved on my PC to Google Photos. It always fails.

I've tried uploading it with an android but it doesnt work.

Hi Alex,

Google Photos doesn't support uploading audio-only media formats files such as .mp3 files. This help page lists the supported image and video formats https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6193313

You may upload to your .mp3 files to Google Drive or Google Play Music.

I'm sorry for the typos, I wanted to say MP4 file.

I couldn't upload that 11gb video file in Google photos.

Neither with Android nor with WEB.

And I've got 6-7 video files like that pending to be uploaded. Please help.

Question: Deleted photos

Hi. My phone was backed up but I am missing over a years worth a photos. Can you take a look please

Hi Berenice,

Whilst Google employees do sometimes comment on threads, this is a user to user community forum not an official support channel. I suggest you review the following information in case there are any options you haven't yet tried to recover your photos.

1. Check your online account - photos.google.com
If your photos were successfully uploaded to your online Google Photos account they may be available there. Try visiting photos.google.com and searching for them. If you have more than one Google account, check all of them.

2. Check the trash - photos.google.com/trash
Once you delete photos from your Google Photos account, they're moved to Trash for the next 60 days. If you deleted them by mistake you can always restore them from the Trash folder within those 60 days. Here's the link explaining how to recover them from Trash. If you have more than one Google account, check the trash for all of them.

If you accessed the Trash and manually sent the photos for permanent deletion, or if the 60 days expired, there is no way to recover them from Google Photos

3. Check your album archive - get.google.com/albumarchive
The archive contains photos you've uploaded to Google products including Picasa Web Albums, Google+, Blogger, Hangouts, Google Photos and Google Drive.

4. Backups
Have you made any backups of the photos on your phone, camera, computer, or elsewhere?

5. Ask other people
If you ever shared the photos with anyone else, it's possible they may have a copy they could share back or send to you.

6. Photo recovery from mobile device
There is a small chance that you can restore the photos using a recover deleted photos app (Android). If you're using an iOS device, check whether the iOS store has any apps you can use to restore the photos.

7. Google Drive - drive.google.com
Search your Drive for the photos. If you don't find them, you can contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Use the Google Drive contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.

8. Google One account Support
If you have a a Google One account you may contact 1:1 support.

Good luck, and do post again if you need more detail on any of the above points.
