I currently have a 100gb plan (got it as an offer for buying an android phone) for google drive out of which 18gb is being used up for my photos. If I cancel the plan will my photos get deleted ?

Answer:

Are you sure it was 100 GB for Google and not for Samsung or anyone else?

But before cancelling you need to press the Recover storage option in the backup-settings. Then Google starts to compress all to High Quality which reduces their count to zero for Photos (but not for Drive and/or gmail is anything is stored there).

Answer:

Hi Gourav,

if you cancel a storage plan all of your photos, videos, and data will remain in your account and won't be deleted or changed. However, you will not be able to upload more photos, create new data, or receive emails in Gmail until you delete enough photos or files to use less space (the same you had before the plan) or buy more storage.

Question: My photos are backedup i need my photos back.... How can i get my photos

I want to get my photos

Hello Naluguri,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.

Could you please elaborate the issue or your query for me to assist you better? Were your photos backed up to Google Photos? If yes, it can be possible that the photos weren't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon  (which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.

Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.

In case, you are uploading a large amount of data (photos/videos), please know that it might take 24-48 hours for the photos and videos to sync across all devices. Please ensure to have 'Backup & sync' enabled on the Google Photos settings while you're backing up your photos and videos. To check is the content is backed up, login in to photos.google.com to checked for your backed up photos and videos.

However, if you're sure they were backed up, I recommend you looking for your video here:
If a photo/s is deleted from Google Photos, it would go to Trash/Bin for the next 60 days (after deletion). Unfortunately, if the photos aren't found in Trash or deleted from Trash, I'm afraid, you might not find them else where to recover them because Trash is the last resort to retrieve your lost/deleted photos.

Meanwhile, also try giving the below steps a try once again in a sequence to help resolve the issue:
  • Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
  • Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
  • Clear App data:
    • Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
    • Touch Apps.
    • Select Google Photos in the list.
    • Touch Clear data.
  • Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
    • Visit the Google Play Store.
    • Open Google Photos.
    • Touch on Update.
Let me know how it goes.

Best,
Amanda

Question: Where to find deleted trash

Find deleted trash

No where of course: it was your last post.
And Google has kept the deleted there for 60 (not 30) days to give you the chance to recover.
Hélas.

Answer:

Hi Alicia Hernandez 8836,

Once deleted from the trash they are permanently deleted; they are only recoverable in 60 days if they are still in the trash.
Also these steps for troubleshooting missing photos. If you still have no luck you can try an app for recovering photos deleted from the local storage.

I have made a backup of my old videos and photos. They all available in Gdrive web version and can be downloaded. But I cannot see these videos in Google photos, and this lasts for several months. The problem is that I cannot identify all videos that are ignored by the system because there are no errors while uploading and that is why I cannot rely on Google and delete my library and feel safe about Google.

Answer:

A couple of things:

First, you mention viewing some photos and videos on Google Drive. You should know that Google Drive (drive.google.com) and Google Photos (photos.google.com) are separate services. But it sounds like your question is about Google Photos, so I'll assume this is so. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Second, recently Google Photos stopped supporting certain types of video files.  See this link: Unsupported Videos. My suspicion is that this is what you are encountering, though you should let me know if that's incorrect.

Question: Where is my all photo

Hi Sandeep Pal 2504,

You can try looking for your photos here, signing in with all your Google accounts if you have more than one:
  • photos.google.com
  • photos.google.com/trash
  • get.google.com/albumarchive
  • drive.google.com (under Google Photos)
  • other online photo or file storage services you use (e.g. Dropbox, OneDrive, Amazon, iCloud)
Let me know if you still can't find them.

Question:

I've recently uninstalled "Google Photos Backup" (which has been working flawlessly for as long as I can remember), as I received an email stating it was to be discontinued next month.I already had "Backup & Sync" installed, so I entered the preferences and added the folder where I export photos from Lightroom to the list of folders "to continuously back up to Google Drive and Google Photos" and checked the option to "Upload newly added photos and videos to Google Photos".

I then exported some photos into this folder, and a short while later received the following message : "The following photos can't be copied to google photos. They will continue to be stored in google drive using xMB of storage"and then a list of about 50% of the photos.

If I look in Google Drive, Computers, "My Laptop" - the is a folder called "Google Photos Backup" - which contains all of the images, but if I go to http://photos.google.com - the ones listed in the error message aren't shown.

I've tried a few more times, and only around 50% of the photos ever make it to Google Photos - and annoyingly, I have to read through the list, find each file and then manually upload it to Google Photos.

My laptop is running Windows 10 Pro Version 1709 and Backup and Sync Version 3.40.8921.5350. I have a paid Google Drive subscription with 70GB available space. I've also ensured the file names are unique, I was pretty sure this wouldn't be a problem though.

I could upload the files via the web interface without any problems. The files are all in JPG format 6000 x 4000 pixels resolution. The files which made it into Google Photos were sized between 7745409 bytes and 8741028 bytes. The files which did make it were between 7745409 bytes and 9539388 bytes.

There doesn't seem to be a pattern in the file size or resolution on the files which fail.

This is a repost of a thread I started two months ago at : https://productforums.google.com/forum/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=footer#!msg/drive/u13Jd8PU9mE/GeMXRgINBgAJ

Answer:

I too am seeing this issue. With version 3.42.9747.1898, on Windows 10. My photos are from a Sony A9 camera in Sony ARW format. These photos are all 6000x4000 when converted to JPG format.

Answer:

Do you have a link for that previously mentioned problem about the default storage folder clashing? It seems odd to me that it would be reported as a sync error by the new client and still link out to the existing files since everything in Drive uses UUIDs under the hood.

Answer:

I am using Backup & Sync on a MacBook just for uploading files (including photos) to Drive only. I am also getting the same warning popups (which are annoying as they seem to take over focus as the active window, interrupting whatever I was typing/doing). In the B&S preferences I have already set to upload all photos in Original size to Drive only and left the upload photos to Google Photos unchecked (I already have Google Photos on my phone to upload to Google Photos).

So why am I still getting those warning popups, even though it shouldn't be a warning in the face place - that is how I want it to happen, i.e. upload to Drive and not convert and upload to Google Photos.

I think this is a bug.

Question: Picasa after Mac Catalina Upgrade

I recently installed an upgrade from Mac Mohave to Catalina to find that the Picasa icon on my desktop was overlaid with a "do not enter" icon and I am unable to access my Picasa folders and albums. I am referred to an explanatory text describing the incompatibility of Picasa (32 bit) with Catalina (64 bit) and the suggestion that I contact the developer. As that is Google it would be fruitless. My question is is there away that I can access Picasa again such that I can transfer the folders and albums there into another photo editing and storage application in something like the Picasa format. I realize that (a.) I could undue the upgrade and go back to Mohave even temporarily or (b.) transfer all the files and folders that are in pictures to a new app. What other options are there?

Answer:

Apart from specialities, Picasa files are normal picture-files in normal folders and because most people hardly have edited a lot, these files will be original or near original mostly.
But what is not seen in these folders are any albums or personsalbums that you may have had: these belong to the hidden database that Picasa has had on your computer before its update.
But if these data did not have played an essential role, there is no need for trying to revitalise Picasa.

Bedtime here - so silence for 8 hours from my side.

Together with Jan (als bedtime) and Peter (on holiday) we are the 3 Picasa-specialists here, but all on Windows and I am still working with it on a 64-bit machine without problems.

Answer:

An excellent comment from Rinus.  The Picassa files are easy enough to locate in your Mac Finder, and then you can move them into a compatible photo editor.  Another route is use the import function in Mac Photos, and bring the files across.  Deleting the old Picassa app might be more difficult...it seems that you need to delete the 32 Bit apps before you upgrade.

Answer:

@User 97...
There maybe a lot of photoeditors around, but no one can be compared with Picasa unless professional Adobe Lightroom which is by far too complicated for many and not free of charge either.
Thereby it is not correct to say that the "Picasa-folders" should be moved into another photoeditor, because they (normally) are within general My Pictures folder - so usable for any suitable photo-software.

I am not on modern Mac, so I can't say anyhting about the Mac Photos editor which did replace the old iPhoto-editor. I only know that it builts its own Library and thereby you are correct that you need to import the original "Picasa-folders" from within that app.
But importing just is copying - not moving.

Answer:

I have tried Google Photos, Apple Photos, Adobe products, GIMP, Pixlr and others and none of them is close to the easiness, features, lightness and speed of Picasa.
Picasa shouldn't be disabled to run in Catalina, and if that's the case, Google should open the source to the global community.
I already upgraded to Catalina in my main iMac, but after realizing about Picasa not running I will keep my other iMacs and MacBooks in Mojave.

Answer:

I've also been on the post Picasa "what next" journey and there is nothing that compares.  I loved the way it interfaced with Google Photos in the cloud.  That horrid Google Backup and Sync has screwed up all of my historic filing and uploaded countless duplicates.  I now have no idea what I have in Google's cloud.

Backup & Sync will only upload the first version of any photo it sees.  Never any of its updates.  So it leaves Google's cloud with is mis-match of outdated rubbish.

I am managing with Photoshop Elements Organiser.  Its not good, but I'll cope.  Adobe Bridge is free, but that is worse than Organiser.  Lightroom can now only be "rented" as part of an Adobe subscription.

I for one would be delighted if somebody revived an open version of Picasa.  Even better if they could revive the link to Google Photos. But that can be little more than a dream.

I also get the impression that Google are about to mess up Google Play Music in exactly the same way.

I give up.

Answer:

On the foregoing Picasa-forum there have been endless threads with cries about "Re-instating Picasa" and as usual, Google have had stiff upperlipps without any sign of userfriendliness since March 2016.
So all is over - young guys do not have the brains for such old quality anymore.

But for Mac the situation always have been worser then for Windows because of its abnormal library.
The install file for Windows just was 13 MB - for Mac 45 MB - and that shows its complexity.
And there also was a long running complaint about the problems with hires Retina-screens.
That problem now also begins to play a nasty role for HD-screens on Windows.

So the game is over, unless for just a few last mohicans.
Hélas

Answer:

I too am a fan of Google's Picasa. There new Google Photos is a pale comparison to the ease of Picasa. I have switched though to ACDSee for the mac. I used to use it years ago. It's faster than Google Picasa and it's database structure is similar. Also the latest macOS Catalina removed Google's Picasa and other 32-bit apps. That's sick.

My wife and I are sharing our Google Photo Libraries with each other. Her photos ARE being saved to my Google Photos Library. I can see them in my library on the phone and web. However backing up to the Google Photos folder under My Drive in Google Drive seems very inconsistent. Some days all her Photos and videos are backed up, on other days it seems as if only videos are backed up, and still other days nothing of hers is backed up to Google Drive. As far as I can tell my photos are backing up fine and have no issues. I would think that once her photos are saved to my Google Photos Library the Google Drive backup and sync would trea everything the same but that is not what is happening. Spoke with Google Drive support first. They indicated it is a mirroring problem and that I need to work with google photos support.

Answer:

The Google Photos Community is an autonomous group of volouteers who share their experience to try to help users.
Google Photos does not provide user support so in this case I'm afraid there is no help we can offer. I would have expected Google Drive support to raise an internal ticket with Google Photos support if they believe that's where the issue is.  We could only raise it as a multi user bug if there were widespread reports so I will keep an eye open for other users having the same problem.
Sorry we can't help,
Regards,
Peter

Answer:

Figured as much :(. since it is an issue between the two services I thought i'd be stuck between the two. I am also disappointed that google photos seems to just want to rely on the user community and doesn't seem to have a real support help desk weather it be chat, email, or phone, unless I missed it. However this is the link the google drive rep gave me for support.

Adding an active hyperlink into a Google photo album textbox.

William,

Same issue for photos: you cannot add an active hyperlink in the "Description" field. But you can in the "Comments" field of both the album and an individual photo. I used that as a work around to share multiple albums with a single link. Not ideal, but kind of worked. I disabled "Comments" after I completed the list. See example: https://photos.app.goo.gl/g8hak9RcKxPXmaCM6

You can submit feedback to the Photos team (via the main menu in https://photos.google.com) but I am afraid that not enough people ask for it, considering that even "Sort by filename in albums) is not implemented in spite of many requests.

Hi Jason,

if the deleted photos are still in the Google Photos Trash you might be able to restore them as explained in these instructions https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6128867?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&oco=1

Otherwise it’s not possible to recover photos permanently deleted from the Trash. However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps and run a scan for anything to recover.

In addition I recommend that you contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Just open the Google Drive https://support.google.com/drive/?hl=en&authuser=0#topic=14940&contact=1 contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.

Google Photos has been uploading images sent to me through sms in Android Messages—despite the fact that I don't save these images or have backup turned on for the Messages folder. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this?

Answer:

Hi Evan,

Can you please verify that the Android Messages photos are showing up on https://photos.google.com on the web?

I am thinking that they are just showing up in the Google Photos  app on your device because it is a photo viewer and they aren't actually being backed up. Especially since you said you did not have that folder being backed up.

Please let me know.

Thanks,
Kyle

Answer:

I had same issue.  Google photo created a folder called SaveMMI, when I deleted this folder, problem was solved.  Previous attempts to manually delete these photos via photos app failed to work.

Answer:

Yes, those photos still appear in the desktop site. Any and all SMS attachments are automatically uploaded without me downloading them. I can't find any folder where they're being downloaded, and it's definitely not my SMS app because I've tried many different ones. The problem will stop for a few days, and then begin again.

It's mostly frustrating because all these gifs and random pics are mixed in with my other photos. Any ideas on how I can stop this from happening?

I have been struggling with this also...but think I figured it out.  If you go into your Google Photo App and click on the 3 ellipses in the upper left hand corner you get to choose what application folders you want backed up to the cloud.  You do this by clicking on the "device folder" icon and then picking which apps (Instagram, MMS, Message etc.) that you do or dont want backed up to the cloud.

Today, to my horror, I discovered that most of my vacation photos from May 2017 have disappeared, along with all of my brother's graduation photos from that month. In fact, there is a gaping hole between May 26th, 2017 and October 20th in which all of my photos are gone.

I have checked my "archive" and "trash" to no avail. Is there any hope of finding out what happened? Of recovering the photos? I take care to upload all of my personal and family photos to Google Drive via the phone app and web client, and it seems that all of that may have been for nothing. I am at your mercy now- please, please, please tell me there's some cause for hope here.

Answer:

Is it possible there's a partial outage? Reading elsewhere on these forums it seems like that's a known occurrence- I've never seen it personally, so perhaps it's just wishful thinking...

Answer:

Hi Patrick,

Maybe it is - if you uploaded to Google Drive but can't see them you can contact them to see if they can restore them.

Contact the Google Drive team and say you want to recover files - click on the contact us option on this link.
Fingers crossed for you!

Answer:

The problem with your words is that the normal Google Photos app on phones never has uploaded to Google Drive, but to Google Photos only (photos.google.com when viewed via the browser on laptop).

However Google always has been good in making our lifes more complicated, because there also has been an automatic Google Photos tab in Drive - maybe until the end of 2017 and that maybe the reason that you are missing that period. But then these pictures still may be found on photos.google.com when you log-in with the same Gmail-account as used in those years (if ever changed?).

Answer:

Forgive me- I misspoke- I upload all photos to Google Photos- not Google Drive. These photos have been sitting in Google Photos for over two years, and were even in albums- but many are now inexplicably missing.

Answer:

Sorry Patrick - there are much more complaints about missing periods and we simply don't understand, because I never have missed anything at Google for many years.
But the completely unsafe part of your collection is your smartphone on which is so terribly easy to delete a random period because often our fingers are faster then our brains.
And the basic mistake of almost everybody is not having a safe (unsynced) copy on disc.

But again: you should look in your browser at photos.google.com to be quite sure, because the phone-app can be quite misleading due to random factors.

Hard to help and hard to say more about.

Answer:

These were photos which I had even added to albums and are no longer around. I'm not sure how they could have been deleted without my noticing- they're not in the archive, not in the Trash... It is not a problem with the app since I am using the website.

Answer:

Then I only can advice to use another browser or to clean-up your browser or to stop using a recently added extension. Juts because there is no logical explanation.

PS: if pictures were removed from library accidently, you may have empty albums or partly empty albums but no disappeared albums also. And if that has happened less then 60 days ago,the pictures would be in trash at photos.google.com/trash else the trash is empty.

Answer:

I can understand that and it does not help that I never has lost anything (going back to 1940), probably because I always have tried to avoid any syncing connection between computer (or phone) and Google.

Sorry that we are not able to help and that you can't contact Google because you probably don't have a Google-One account.

PS: be aware that it is very complicated to transfer to any other cloud and certainly without any costs and even then there is no garantee that this cloud will be more safe: most safety is fully dependant on user behavior. And as long as people don't have a non-syncing secundary backup on disc, such drama's are unsolvable.

All each have different photos but since I've shared them with each other they now have all the duplicates as well how do I get rid of all of the duplicates because now it's filled up all the space in two of my emailsI have three different emails

Answer:

Shared images don't take up space in the recipient's account unless shared in Original quality and then saved to the recipient's account.  If that's the problem you are facing, then I suggest deleting the images from the recipient accounts (DON'T delete them from the donor accounts), then use the Share Library feature of the Google Photos App (found through Menu  then Settings ); shared libraries never take up space on the recipient's account unless the donor stops sharing or deletes them, not a risk if all accounts are yours.

All your photos you have backed up to Google photos will be visible when you open the app under the photos tab or on the web @ photos.google.com?

Do you see them?

We got back from a vacation and i only have a fraction of my photos. there are days of photos missing, i cant find them on my phone (a google pixel 3) I've looked in trash, archives, and looked on my computer as well.  I did do an update to android 10 on my phone was wondering if maybe that may have had anything to do with it? please help this was a trip of a lifetime.
thank you

Answer:

Hi Jeff,
Gutted for you, whereabouts did you visit?

So you were backing photos up to Google photos as you went along; but then have disappeared from both Google photos and your device? That's definitely strange behaviour, I haven't heard of that before.

Also these steps for troubleshooting missing photos. If you still have no luck you can try an app for recovering photos deleted from the local storage.

Also maybe search / post in the Pixel forum to see if similar reports are there.
I hope you can retrieve them.

I just deleted 60,000 (I wish there was a "delete all my photos").  Everything is gone from my main library, my archive, and my trash.  However, when i login I see grey placeholder images that never resolve into a thumbnail. I waited a week hoping some background process Google might have time to purge data from my Photo Library.  Today I uploaded 100 images (via BackSync) and it says it was successful but I don't see them in the web.  I do see them via Android GP app.  Any idea why my web view is broken?

Answer:

Absolutely unclear what was the reason to delete 60.000, but such a bulk action usually causes these greyholders. Maybe because the trash is not emptied in between many times just because it has a limited capacity of 1,5 GB only.
I know that Google is a bad warner, but you could have had the brains yourself.
And hélas: we also don't know how to get rid of these greys, because Google is a bad informer also.

Maybe you need to clean history in cookies in your browser or try to open photos.google.com  in the incognito or inprivate window of your browser: perhaps there are no greys at all and you may see your new 100 immediately.
If so, you may have to remove some ugly extension in your browser - maybe Adblocker or whatever.

Question: when i share from within google photos, the return address is being interpreted as spam in some email systems..how do i change the "from"

forwarding after sending to myself...not a good solution

I am afraid that you cannot change the address. By the way: it's a "no reply" address. many users do not notice that, reply to your mail (for example to thank you) but the mail never arrives and they do not get a warning. The whole thing is not well implemented. As an alternative you can simply copy & paste the link to an album in a normal mail.

Get an answer

Hello Rezwana,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Forum.

Could you please elaborate the issue or your query for me to assist you better? It can be possible that the photos weren't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup.

Best,
Amanda

Photos which are already uploaded are not showing in the album section. The person whose photos have already been backed up are not there in album section of the same person.
Please help as soon as possible.

Answer:

Photos that are backed up to Google Photos will appear only at the Photos tab, not the Albums tab, unless: you manually add them to an Album; or Google creates an Album automatically for you as will do if you have selected Face Grouping.

If you have Face Grouping turned on it may take some time for the Google algorithm to process, recognize, and group faces for you. Eventually, though, it should catch up to your uploads and put faces in their appropriate People Album.

Let me know if this helps (and if it does please select the Recommend button below this post so that others can more easily find the solution to similar problems).

Question: Wanted to delete picture of a Injury and instead they shared it someplace where can I go to delete

Wanted to delete a picture of injury instead it was shared where can I find it

We are not aware that anything stored on Google Photos got shared automatically., because GP basically is fully private unless for what you are sharing selectively yourself

So by what information you got the impression that something was shared beyond your own choice???

Answer:

Hi Regena Agee,

To view any photos and videos that have been shared from you account:

> Open Google photos app
> Tap the sharing tab (bottom right)
> Scroll down the list until you see this entry
> Tap into the entry
> Tap the 3 dots menu (top right)
> Choose option to Delete album

This will stop the album being shared but the photos will remain in your library.

Hi Uzair Urooj,

This is a permanent action; so retrievely from within Google photos is unlikely.
You can try looking for your photos here, signing in with all your Google accounts if you have more than one:

  • photos.google.com/trash
  • get.google.com/albumarchive
  • drive.google.com (under Google Photos)

Did you take these photos originally on your phone? If you still have no luck you can try an app for recovering photos deleted from the local storage. I hope you can retrieve them.

Hello Ruby,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.

You can simply access your photos/videos by signing into photos.google.com (web browser) on your computer or on the Google Photos app on another phone with the same Google Account to check for photos/videos that are already backed up to Google Photos cloud.

If they aren't backed up, Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos app and will have this icon  (which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.

Question: Dear sir mere photos saare delete ho gaye hai app lock se s plss use wapis laane me meri helkiji ye

Recover to oll my photos

Hello Rohit,

Welcome to the Google Photos Support Community.

Could you please elaborate the issue or your query for me to assist you better? If you've deleted them from Google Photos and want to restore them, please know that photos/videos deleted from the Google Photos library, goes to the Trash for the next 60 days. So, in case, you deleted it by mistake you can always restore it from Trash folder within those 60 days (post deletion). But, if you don't find it in Trash, probably it must have been deleted more that 60 days ago. Unfortunately, restoring your lost/deleted photos and videos from Trash is the last resort.

If no, please let me know. Also confirm the device you're using

Regards,
Amanda

Answer:

I cannot find *any option* or tool whatsoever to rotate my video which was shot in landscape mode. The device used was a Samsung Galaxy Neo 5. There is no option using chrome browser on my laptop, nor in my phone to effect the desired change.

FWIW the phone is using the latest updates (currently  Android 7.0).
My laptop is Windows 10 with the most current updates [November 11, 2018]. It boots to Debian Linux [Stretch, Testing] which is my preferred / default OS] all updates are current also.

Surely Google with its many improvements can provide this highly desired feature? See attached screenshot.

Answer:

SAME Issue, cant play wide screen videos via google photo desktop version.  Have to download them and manually rotate.  It's mental.  Had no problem with old phone, however.  Must be new phone bug in software or a setting.  I don't expect it to be fixed any time in the future.
