Suddenly all my photos back to December 2016 have disappeared from both my Android camera gallery and my Google photos app. When I log in on a PC they are also missing.
Interestingly, Instagram finds the missing photos and allows me to post them from the gallery. Does it mean they are stored somewhere but not showing/ inaccessible via Google photos?

Question: One picture was marked favorite. It got shifted out of galery. On beIng de favorite it vanished.
Recover favorite photo
Hi John,
If it got vanished, i am assuming it was perhaps deleted by mistake, you should check your trash folder. If you have back up & sync on, photos and videos you delete will stay in your trash for 60 days. You can recover deleted items by following the below steps:
- Open the Google Photos app
.
- At the top left, tap Menu
, then Trash
.
- Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
- At the top right, tap Restore
. That photo or video will be restored to your Google Photos library and added back into any albums it was in.
Incase, if you're unable to restore from the Google Photos, the following things could be the reasons:
- Photos and Videos moved to trash more than 60 days ago.
- Photos and Videos moved to trash, then emptied your trash.
- Photos and Videos moved to trash permanently deleted from your trash.
You can learn more here on how to recover your files in the help center:Google Photos Support- See if you can restore deleted photos & videos
I hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
Samson

Question: I want to recover all my videos that were deleted from June 19th to June 30th 2018 only videos
I want to recover my videos from the trash
Daniel,
You can easily restore pictures that you deleted by opening the trash bin and selecting them, then choosing the Restore option. This will take those images out of the trash and put them back into your main timeline.
However, if you are actually talking about recovering pictures that were in the trash when you manually emptied the trash bin, that's not something that we can do. Emptying the trash bin permanently deletes all of the pictures and videos that were in there, which is why when you attempt to manually empty your trash bin an important popup box appears explaining this to you.
The only (small) possibility of recovering pictures that were in the trash when it was manually emptied requires you to contact the Google Drive support team and request assistance from them. However, if too much time has passed since you emptied the trash, your pictures will not be able to be recovered.

I recently deleted a few photos, and edited others, but found that these changes were not applied in the hard drives from which these photos were pulled. On my Windows computer, using Backup and Sync, edits to the photos in the Pictures folder were not applied. On my Android mobile phone, deleted photos were not removed from the phone. I did these actions yesterday.
Answer:
Picasa3 could sync edits, but they killed that option. Instead they gave us Backup & Sync not able to sync. You can download directly from https://photos.google.com/ or from albums. That will download edited copies. Only disadvantage: it's not automatic. But it is a lot safer than "Sync".

Hi Aishwarya,
I’m sorry, it’s not possible to recover photos permanently deleted from the Google Photos Trash. However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps and run a scan for anything to recover.
In addition I recommend that you contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Just open the Google Drive https://support.google.com/drive/?hl=en&authuser=0#topic=14940&contact=1 contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.

I have a very specific problem that I found no solution for online, but I'm sure can be solved by experts. Before using Google Photos, I used Shoebox. When they suddenly shut down a few months ago, I migrated all my photos over to google photos. I have about 30000 photos. During the download from Shoebox to my hard drive about 10% (roughly 3000) photos were corrupted and lost their metadata. Instead of the correct old metadata, they all got the time/date from the day I downloaded. This resulted that about 3000 random photos are now set on the same date in google photos (like April 20 2019, or something). This is solely the fault of Shoebox, but they refused to take responsibility. However, all the photos from the Shoebox library were placed in designated folders based on date (date is the only thing that matters, I don't care about location metadata). So on my hard drive there will be folders like 2005 - 6 (number of month) - and then all the photos taken on that day. I have only found one extremely time consuming solution to this problem and that is locating the photos one by one in google photos, copying the file name (which is just a lot of random numbers), pasting the file name in Finder on my Mac to locate the date of the folder they are located in, and then readjusting the time/date in Google photos. That solves the problem, but because these are random photos from my collection (not at all taken on the same day), I have to so this 3000 times to fix it... here is my question: Is there a way (or maybe an app or something on Mac) that can locate and sort all photos in my Finder based on metadata - so that I can quickly see all the 3000 photos that are corrupted on the same list? I would then be able to correct the time/date in another app before uploading to google photos again. (First deleting the 3000 photos from google and then reuploading them, but this time with the correct metadata).

Question: how to retrieve the deleted photos by using date and time
i trying by scanning all photos in the option of google photos
Good afternoon.
If you have deleted pictures from within Google Photos, you can recover them from the trash bin by opening the trash and selecting the ones you want to recover, then choosing the Restore option.
However, any pictures that have remained in the trash for 60 days will be automatically and permanently deleted. The same thing will happen if you choose to empty the trash manually. Once either of those things happens, you cannot recover those pictures anymore.
The only (small) possibility of recovering pictures that were in the trash when it was manually emptied requires you to contact the Google Drive support team and request assistance from them. However, if too much time has passed since you emptied the trash, your pictures will not be able to be recovered.

Hi,
On iOS, your camera roll is the main photo folder to which third party backup apps sync. You may have to configure Google Photos (if that's possible) to sync to your photo stream folder.

Dear Google Photos,
I'm uploading from Apple Photos on an external. As far as I remember I have about 50,000 photos and videos to upload.
The upload process started by identifying 105,000 items. As it's uploading, it is slowly increasing the number of items identified to be uploaded. I'm now 4 days into the uploading process and it says that I've uploaded 90,000 of 160,000 items. I'm afraid that I'm in an endless regress and the gap will never close.
As this point in the uploading process it all seems to be thumbnails and not the actual pictures.
Should I hang in there or is something going wrong? Do you advise that I do anything?
Thank you.

Recently - I will enter a date for a (old / scanned) photo and then see the photo show up with a date far in the future, or far in the past. After some investigation, I found out part of what is happening. In these cases, there are TWO versions of the exact same photo / file (either being created - or already created by Google). I'm not talking about two duplicate photos, or two similar photos with the same filename - I'm talking about the EXACT SAME photo as recognized by the Google DB. As proof:
a) If I select both photos and add them to an album called "Problems," only ONE photo is added
b) Changes to one of the photos (description, etc) will immediately show up in both photos.
But somehow these photos have TWO dates - and Google appears to be keeping a consistent delta between them. If I set one of the photos to ~Oct 1993, one will show up correctly in 1993, but another will show up in Mar 1962. Then - trying to change the "wrong" one in 1962 to the correct 1993 date will result in (that one) now showing up correctly in 1993, but now there will be a "future" one in 2025 (consistent delta between dates).
- selecting the SINGLE copy of the photo in my "Problems" album (after adding both copies to the album) and changing the date there also does not fix it.
- Deleting either of the photos results in deleting BOTH, so even if I was willing to go through thousands of photos and manually delete dups, I couldn't.

Answer:

That sounds weird indeed. There are many issues with dates, but I never heard of this exact problem. I have no idea what happens, but it looks like a glitch in the database (like you already suggest): one single photo is shown twice in the library. It looks like instead of changing the date it added one, but that is just guessing. Note that Google Photos does NOT change the date IN the photo, it does only in its database.
Right now I see only one solution: delete the photo (thus deleting both) and upload again. I realize that this may be problematic when you have thousands. How many are affected ? Are they in albums ?
In order to try to find out more you could:
- Be sure that you have a back up before you start experimenting.
- Delete one photo (=move to trash bin) and then restore. Does that solve the issue for that photo ?
- Download one (or both ?) photos and see what you get. Then delete from Google Photos and upload again.
For old (scanned) photos I usually change the date before I upload (using Picasa3 but also Irfanview). There are other tools of course like ExifTool. That changes

Answer:
I have almost the same problem as the original poster.
I uploaded a block of photos from my computer using the google 'app' to sync a directory on the computer.
Some, but not all of these photos appear twice with dates shifted by 13 days.
If I update the date of the 'wrong' one, it also updates the date of the other - (it took me a while to notice as I thought it was just adding twice the specified adjustment I had given it and kept flip-flopping the dates back and forth)
If I delete the picture - it deletes both (in that the 'other' remains on the 'photos' page, but if I select it it will show me the picture but has the caption "image not found")
If I then restore from the bin, both versions come back.
If I adjust the image (colour, saturation etc) both versions get adjusted.
It really is one image - 2 dates and everything I do it to affects both.

If it truly won't turn on, you might want to remove the hard drive and try something like this:
I have not used this exact model, but have used similar ones. Look (or look up the specs for) the hard drive to make sure that it is the correct size / type.

They are there because I can see if I log in using chrome. I can't free up any space on my phone which is the only thing I have to take photos on whilst travelling. I have tried clearing data and cache, force stop, reinstalling and nothing works. Please help.
Answer:
Ruth - how awful to have your phone stolen. Glad you have a spare to take photos. You say that Google photos does see the photos on device, right? So you can take photos and get them uploaded?

Answer:
The app is not uploading the photos on my device as it is just stuck on 'getting photos' so they are not backing up on the app as it were. I have deleted every app I don't actually need- i.e. not my online banking but this is not leaving much space. I have tried uploading to the web version but it will only let me upload one photo at a time- when I select all, it just says uploading photo 1 of 1, then randomly uploads one photo of the ones selected and finishes- as I currently over1000 not good

Thanks for your thoughts and if you know of any fixes please let me know...was upsetting about original phone as lost some pics that werent backed up there...keen to avoid it again!

My thought is the J5 may not have enough memory/storage to do the task of showing all your online photos (it needs to create and store the little thumbnails). Can you remove any apps to make room?
To check storage:
- open your system settings
- Storage - you need to have at least a few GB free
If you can't get the app to work, you may need to remove it and just use the Web version. You can go to Chrome and photos.google.com and manually upload from the phone. This should work until you can get a new phone.

Answer:
Try selecting multiple photos on your phone and adding them to an album - it is another workaround to force photos to be backed up since albums exist in the cloud.

Question: Restore all deleted photos ana vedio
Recovering all the photos &vedio
Good afternoon.
If you have deleted pictures from within the Google Photos app, you can recover them from the trash bin by opening the trash and selecting the ones you want to recover, then choosing the Restore option.
