Welcome to the Google Photos Product Help Forum!

"Photos" is a chronological listing of ~All~ of your photos in Google Photos.

"Albums" are like a collection or ~links~ or pointers to the photos. It does not duplicate space.

You can just ignore the images in the "Photos" stream if you like. Or, and I strongly recommend against this, but you can Archive the images after you put them into an album.

Archive really just means ~hiding them in Photos~ This does not change the amount of space consumed, it requires effort on your part and I think the Archive would become unwieldy if it has hundreds or thousands of images.

Using "Archive" from the 3 dot menu will ~hide~ the image from the "Photos" view.
You can see Archived images at: https://photos.google.com/u/0/archive or from Archive on the 3 line menu.
Archived images will still be shown in Albums (if in any).
Again, I am not recommending you Archive a lot of photos. I have 77,000+ images in Google Photos and there is no way I would recommend what album a specific image is in - I frequently use the "Photos" stream to find an image of interest.

It is not particularly elegant, but if you open the information panel in the web interface via the "i" icon, you can see which album(s) it is in. You can scroll with the arrow keys (typically in the lower right area of the keyboard).

To express interest in new Google Photos functionality (e.g., an easy way to identify images not in an album), you can use "Send feedback" from the 3 line menu on the Google Photos website (or app) to directly contact the development team.

Once your photos have been permanently deleted then you won't be able to get them back from Google Photos, first you'll need to check to see if they're still in your bin. You can find out how to do this by following the instructions at this link here.

There are apps that you can use on Android that may be able to restore deleted files, if you click this link here it'll take you a Play Store search for restoring deleted photos, you'll be able can find the highest rated apps to see if they help.

When you delete photos from your iOS photos library, iCloud usually conveniently keeps them in a Recently Deleted album in the iOS photos app. You might be able to restore your deleted photos by following these instructions:

Open the Apple photos app (not Google Photos)
Tap Albums at the bottom
Tap Recently Deleted
Select all the photos you’d like to restore
Tap restore at the top right

We are mostly user volunteers here, and have no access to accounts, etc.

Another thought, is that your father MAY have saved his Google account password in the password management facility of a browser (Firefox, IE, Edge, Chrome...). If you think this is a possibility you might search ~password management~ with the name of the specific browser.

I’m sorry, it’s not possible to recover photos permanently deleted from the Google Photos Trash. However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps and run a scan for anything to recover.

In addition I recommend that you contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Just open the Google Drive https://support.google.com/drive/?hl=en&authuser=0#topic=14940&contact=1 contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.

I don't have iOS, but from a web browser:

1. If the album was shared by you, go to Photos > Albums > Open the album and then in the : menu on the upper right, select Options and toggle the Share option off. Read the pop up message and then choose to continue to delete the shared album or not.

2. IF the album was share with you by another person, go to PHotos > Albums > Open the album and in the : menu, select the option to LEAVE the album. Again read the pop up message, and decide to leave the album or not.

Photos syncs across your devices, so assuming they are all connected to the internet and logged in to the same account you have for Photos, the Photos app will sync your choices and the shared album will either be deleted or you'll leave it across all devices.

There's unfortunately no way of remotely turning on auto backup in the Google Photos app. You may try to locate the device with Google Find My Device https://www.google.com/android/find but it may not work if the phone has no connectivity, is not turned on, or the appropriate option wasn't turned on before the device was stolen.

You can add a description (that is only available on the Information Panel) by going to the "i" icon from the 3 dot menu (I believe, I don't have an Android phone to be sure). This description is ~somewhat searchable~ after some time.

You can use the Snapseed app to put text directly on an image (or copy of an image). This might be a good approach if you are going to share the image.

You can add comments to images in Shared Albums (with appropriate "Sharing options") - this are also not directly visible, but the fact that a comment exists is indicated.

To express interest in new Google Photos functionality, you can use "Send feedback" from the 3 line menu to directly contact the development team.

Hi Raja,

Follow this steps on how to recover your photos

On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
At the top left, tap Menu Trash .
Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
- In your phone
- Into the "Photos" section of the app.
- Into any albums it was in.

To find and recover photos easily, turn on back up & sync. Learn how to turn on back up & sync.
