My account (either on android or the web) does not have the option to show Google Drive photos within the Google Photos application. I suspect this has to do with my username being a custom domain verses a gmail account. My username is not associated with a business or school account.
If I logout and login with a secondary account which is a gmail account, then I do have the option to show drive photos within the photo app.
Can anyone tell me why this is or how to change it?
Answer:
You can't change that hélas - it is some Google-abnormality connected to that special account.

That's the thing. It isn't a business account. I just used my existing email account as the login. There is no "managed" domain or other connected accounts.
Answer:
It's a custom domain, which is probably a legacy from the Google Apps days. The settings are still dictated by the product and we have no influence on the product rules, it is a restriction from within the account. Absolutely nothing we can do no matter how much we would like to.

Perhaps to prevent that business pictures stored on Drive are shared via unsafe social media like Photos.
Just guessing.
I do not think to complain via feedback on Photos does make any sense - but it is not forbidden :-)

Sorry jerbo128, the setting is only available for standard consumer Gmail accounts. Unfortunately we have never been able to find out why, just that Google Photos isn’t supported by the business products.

That said, you did everything you can - turning off backup and sync is the right thing to do.
Then, how did you delete the photo? Did you go to a computer or some other device?
If you deleted using the phone, it has no choice but to delete the phone copy as well.

I have continuously tried to back up the photos from my iPhone to the Google Photos App. When I open Google Photos and sync my photos, there are about 100 depth effect photos that remain on my phone and not uploaded to Google Photos.
I have searched and they are not on Google Photos anywhere, and when I 'free up space' by deleting photos and videos off my phone that have been uploaded to Google Photos, they remain on my phone because they are not backed up.
Does anyone know why this is or how I can fix it? As you can imagine, it is very frustrating. I am wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that I am still running IOS 10.3.3 on my iPhone 7.
Any and all help is welcomed and appreciated.
Thanks,
Jake

Chris,
Thank you for your continuous attempts to help me. Unfortunately, I am unsure if I am being unclear, I don't know that you understand my problem completely.
I can not select the "three dot menu" and then push "info" because these portrait photos have not been uploaded to Google Photos. They are on the Photos app of my iPhone 7 running IOS 10.3.3.
When I backup my photos to Google Photos, these photos are left on my phone. They are not removed when I 'free up space' because they are not been backed up to Google Photos.
Also, I am unable to see the size of the photos from the Apple Photos app.
I hope this better allows you to understand my problem .

Unfortunately, files, which you have removed from the trash, can no longer be restored with the help of settings.
The only way is to go to Google play store, and to find an application that can recover files on your device. Read reviews, and select the application may you will be able to return the files in your gallery.

I am using a pixel 2.

Answer:
Depends on the end date of the unlimited offer of your Pixel 2.
But if you have uploaded pictures & videos from another source, they will surely count.
If you view a picture individually and you move it upwards a bit with a fingertip, you will wich camera is used. But it would be a hopeless task to find out which pictures should be deleted.
You better can use the recover storage button in the settings: then the non-Pixel file will get compressed to High Quality which is not counted for storage and then 7 GB will go down to zero.
Answer:
Rinus, thank you for replying. I purchased my Pixel 2 in December of 2017.

Hi SH and VC,
Welcome to the Google Photos Product Help Forum!
>>>> How I to positions pictures in collages so it doesn't cut off people's heads? Is it static?
To be honest, the Collage capabilities in Google Photos are rather primitive. I use them sometimes but am willing to accept the limitations or do some ~preprocessing~.
For instance, if you want WYSIWYG (What You See is What You Get), you can create cropped copies of the component photos and then create the collage from the copies. An example: Crop and create 4 SQUARE copy photos. Then create the collage from the 4 square photos.
Honestly, if you have access to a smartphone or tablet you can download custom apps for this purpose which are much more flexible (e.g., allow you do change positions of images, etc.). Use terms like ~Photo Grid Collage~ to search for an app then select a highly rated one which meets your needs.
Best regards, Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user)

Answer:
@User 180..............
You can open a selected pictures and then select Save to device via the 3 dots. That action has to be repeated for other pictures you want to use in the collage.
No other option and no danger for your pictures saved at Google.
PS: after the collage is created, these pictures can be removed from local storage. They normally should be in a device folder named Restored, but on my Android they appear in the Camera-folder which is sick.
You also can see these devicefolder in the main menu of the Photos app and on the Album-page (they should not be there, but Google does not understand that).
So you should use the option Remove from device (repeated per picture) to prevent loss of your Google copy.

Hi SH and VC,

I would suggest you have a look at this Photo Recovery Software.
I have used this tool a month back and really helped me out. With the help of this tool, I was able to recover all of my photos which were deleted.
Hope it works for you.
Answer:
Then we may hope ever seeing a positive feedback of Kedis here.
But normal deletions can be found back in trash under the 3 small lines of the Google app and it not - they never have been at Google at all or that trash was emptied "accidently" also (as usual here).
But it is not clear if you have commercial interests and the software does not look suitable for Android either. So you maybe misleading.

My friend shared an album with me that contains a high-res video (400mb).
I want to download the full-resolution video so that I can make some edits to it and then upload to YouTube. However, every attempt I've tried to download the file results in a low-resolution (11mb) file.
**How do I download the full-resolution video?**
What I've tried:
1. From the Google Photos Android app, clicking on Download on the video from the shared album. This results in downloading the low-res 11mb file.
2. The same as above, but from the web interface.
3. After adding the album to my Google Photos, the video shows up in my own Photos tab, but when I click on Info, it's only the 11mb version!
3. I also have Google Photos -> Google Drive sync. On Google Drive, the video that got copied over is also the 11mb version.
NOTE: I _know_ that my friend uploaded the high-res version to Google Photos, because if I open the shared album, find the video and click on Info, it says 400mb.
Please help.
Edit: I captured the URL that gets used when downloading the file. It looks like the following (I modified it just in case). I was hoping it would contain a parameter that specified resolution or something like that, but it appears not to be the case:

Hello Rodrigo, it might take a while for the video to be processed and available in full res before you can download it. Just give it some time and then try to download it again later.
Answer:
Thanks for the reply, Salim.
When I submitted the request, it had already been almost 1 full day since my friend shared the video.
Right now it's been 6 days. I tried again, but I was still unable to download the full resolution!!
One thing did change, though:
- The file that I'm able to download now is 69MB. It's clearly a higher resolution file than before, but still not the full resolution file of ~400MB.
- In the video player, I can now select the solution for playback, and I can go as high as 1080p HD. However, the downloaded file is still 69MB and clearly NOT in 1080p resolution :(
I'm still out of luck. Please help!

Answer:
Hello Guys, I'm having the exact same issue, it's rather confusing. My Pixel (2016) is in repairs, my partners Pixel 2 did all our photo and videography in the few days, so I'm pretty sure we're using original quality backups. I have the shared album right here, can see a 4K video on the online player (but it is still a heavily compressed version, as always), I can see under info that the file is around 1GB, yet trying to download, it gives me a 72MB file. Please, help us with this issue
UPDATE:
Turns out I can download full resolution videos from the "Sharing" tab, but if I save a video to my Library, then try to download from there, I get the compressed one (even though "Info" shows the correct size).
I guess this might be a bug, can you please have a bug report and investigate? Thanks!

So... Google wants us to store the HQ Video Files a SECOND time in Google Drive, so if we want to share the Videos in Original Quality, we need twice the storage place. Clever way to earn more money. Congrats Google. What a move...

You can make different albums for different groups of users. From the same photos you can make any number of albums. Give names in such a way that there is a name of objects, and that at the same time there is also some difference in the name.

>>>> Is google photos apart of google+?
No. Google Photos are visible at https://photos.google.com/u/0/ if you see what you are interested there, it is not part of Google+
You are probably concerned because of information about the Google+ shutdown.
More info here: Frequently asked questions about the Google+ shutdown
(Excerpt):
"...Photos and videos backed up in Google Photos will not be deleted. Note that some photos and videos uploaded from Google+ may remain available in Google Photos. These photos and videos will remain in Google Photos after the Google+ shutdown:
- Photos and videos uploaded to Google+ before Google Photos launched in 2015
- Photos and videos backed up at any time using older versions of Google+ mobile apps (from 2015 or earlier)
- Photos and videos that were associated with Google+ Events

So I downloaded the photos app on my iPad and then tried signing on, signed on thinking it was my profile then immediately realized it was NOT my profile but was a friends. I saw a couple of my private photos on the screen, did they sync to they're account? If so how do I retrieve them back when not on good terms with the old friend
Answer:
Strange mistake and maybe hard to correct without causing additional problems.Open the Photos-app, go into settings via the 3 small lines and switch-off Backupping. Then remove the pictures already uploaded: select all by moving your finder over all and then tap the Trashbin. But start with deleting one, because I am not quite sure if a deletion also will delete the original on the iPad.Thereafter empty the Trashbin (if you are sure that your originals are safe). Then remove your friends account on top of the menu. Then goto in the general app overview and clear cache and data from the Photos-app.Good luck
Answer:
Thing is I removed the account as soon as I figured it out and no longer have they're account, is it possible for the app to have synced all my photos to their account even when immediately removing them? And I read the little ad when first downloading the app and asked to access my photos to show photos in the app, just not sure if they synced to the account or just used my phot album to show pictures within the app
Answer:
Then it is very unlikely that any picture was uploaded already. But you have no possibilty to check in a browser by logging-in with their account on https://photos.google.comBecause then you can see what is uploaded accidentily and you can remove that.We can do nothing against such strange mistakes and you can't ask Google to do anything either.

Where can I find original quality photos and videos between hiqh quality? I would like to clear my storage but if I choose to reduce them in quality I will lost my original quality files, I think. Where I can find them? I would like to back up them and after that compress them.
Answer:
Hi Jan Honza,There is no automated way to find the original quality items between high quality. My suggestion is taking full back is best option instead of just taking the original quality items only. You can download those photos from Google Photos or Google Takeout.Download using Google Photos:
- On your computer, go to photos.google.com.
- Select all photos and videos.
- Click More
Download.
Download using Google Takeout:
- On your computer, go to https://takeout.google.com.
- Uncheck all products except Google Photos and click on "Next step" button.
- Verify and change the setting of archive file, if you want. Then click on "Create archive" button.
- After a while, you will get the email with the download link.
Answer:
And just for clearing storage without downloading, you only need to press the recover storage button in the settings of the app - then all originals will get downgraded to High quality which is not counted by Google.

Answer:Good afternoon. If you deleted pictures or videos from Google Photos and it has been longer than 60 days, there is nothing you can do to get them back.Per the official Google Photos Help page about this,If a deleted photo or video isn't in trash, you can’t restore it. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
- You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
- You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
- You permanently deleted it from your trash.
- You permanently deleted it from your device’s Gallery app, without backing it up first.

BackUp and Sync just ran my MacBook Pro out of storage while I was backing up photos to Google Photos from a thumb drive. I don't have a question so much as a plea that Google not cache the entire backup volume ALL AT ONCE like it did which used about 12 Gb, enough to run me out of storage. Thankfully, after searching the web, I realized I could use Dr. Cleaner to search my System directory for this cache that I knew had to exist. Well, it found it, and I deleted the thing. Finder hides this cache too, so if it weren't for Dr. Cleaner, I would be poking around on the command line right now wasting time. Bad design by Google and by Apple. Thank you Dr. Cleaner. Google should send photo uploads in bite-sized 1 Gb packets. I had 20 Gb of photos on the thumb drive I had plugged in, and Google was ready to download all of that at once to my computer before then uploading to Photos. So annoying. For anyone wondering, the cache is in your Library - Application Support - Google - Drive - user_default directory.
Answer:
Not clear why this has happened and I also would expect that a Macbook Pro has a lot of free space.Else I would not call it a "Pro" :-)But the problem maybe caused by Backup & Sync because of the USB-setting used. Then B&S may need to make a temporary copy on Mac to prevent disturbing the uploading by accidental removing of the thumbdrive. If so, I also would expect that this temporary copy automatically is removed if backup is ready. But that may take a while with 12 GB.So I would suggest to report Google via the feedback option in Backup & Sync, because we can do nothing.
Answer:
Addition:Maybe you still have the old Google Drive Sync app installed and running. Then that will cause downsyncing to your Mac because B&S is filling https://drive.google.com/drive/computers also and that folder is not excluded in that old app. So it should have been uninstalled before installing B&S (Google Photos Backup also).
