Please help me, it was a very bad decision to delete the account. Google's steps to recovering an account doesn't help. It recovers active accounts that you've forgotten your password to, not deactivated ones... I don't know where the photos went. When i shared my photos to my new account it showed up and was alright. Right after I deleted the account, it was alright too. However now i can't seem to see the shared account and i can't find the photos anywhere. Please help me.

So, for a while I've had some issues with the Google Photos app for android crashing on my Samsung G…

So, for a while I've had some issues with the Google Photos app for android crashing on my Samsung Galaxy S8. A while ago the app instantly crashes, then it seemed to be open longer and longer before it crashed. What I figured out is that the app itself crashed at a specific date when I scrolled downwards.
I went to my desktop and removed all the pictures from this day (put them in the trash) and it stopped crashing... So I solved the problem, but if I add one of these specific pictures back the app crashes when it displays them again... All the pictures are memes downloaded from the imgur app on my phone. I've attached one image that definately have made the app crash (don't mind the content... hehe)

I can say from myself: some files in Photos can have similar or other problems, this is a known, but very rare situation for files that have been downloaded from the Internet, rather than made with your devices.

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.

Were the photos backed up to Google Photos (cloud)? If yes, are you logged in to Google Photos with the correct Google account? It can be possible that the photos weren't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon  (which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.

Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.

However, if you're sure they were backed up, I recommend you looking for your video here:

    The contact was only name and number so how could it have known who to send it to if it didn't text it.

    The best thing is to put all of the pictures into Google Photos. Not just because you can get free unlimited storage, but because Photos has tons of features similar to Moments plus more. 
     
    You'll have to download the pictures from the Moments app to your phone, then use the Google Photos app to upload them. If the Moments app puts downloaded pictures into its own folder, that would be ideal and make the whole process much easier. If it just puts the pictures in your phone's Downloads folder it's still pretty easy, but for most of us the Downloads folder is kind of like that junk drawer in the kitchen... So, you'd have to watch out for the unintentional image upload mixed in with the rest of the Downloads folder slush. 
     
    The same thing goes for pictures you have in Google Drive. However, if you're not at risk of using up all of your Google account storage space, you can actually leave the pictures in Drive if they're already there and just turn on the option to show your Drive images in Photos. This will make all of the images in Drive visible in Photos, so if you only want specific ones to be in Photos then you'll have to download them from Drive and upload to Photos.

    If you saved these videos in the Gallery of your device, then your video from the device as the second Gallery will be displayed in the Photos. This is a feature of this application.

    But if you also deleted these videos from the device, then you can clear the data. To do this:
    • open Device Settings - select Apps - delete Photos data; then select Google Play Services - delete data; then delete the cache in the Storage section. 
    • Restart the device. In this way, you can delete cached data for the apps and device.
    • After clearing the data, you need to open the Settings in Photos, and check the Auto Backup settings and the selection of folders on the device

    Last month I upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S9 and now when I delete a photo in the Google Photos app it does not delete it from my Gallery on my device and I have no idea why.

    Hi guys, I have downloaded "backup and sync" on windows to sync old photos of mine (from the time I used photo cameras instead of mobile phones). It is just a place to store the photos, so I don't mind they are not on the "original quality".
    The thing is: google states that when we choose the "high quality" option, it will not take from my storage limit from google (or that's what I understood).
    In fact, now that I have synced more than 20000 photos, it says I don't have space left on storage, even to send an email.
    Could you clarify to me: photos synced on "high quality" do or do not take from storage limit?
    If not, what do I do for this not happen?

    First check under "View details" in https://drive.google.com/settings/storage whether most storage is used by Photos or Drive.
    • If the storage is mainly used by Google Photos you may not not have the settings right. When you use Backup & Sync, "High Quality" must be set in the Backup & Sync app.
      https://photos.google.com/settings works only for uploads directly to https://photos.google.com.  In that case you can convert to "High Quality" by using RECOVER STORAGE in https://photos.google.com/settings 

    • When most storage is used by Drive some photos/videos (many in this case) may not be synced to Google Photos, for example because they are too large. In that case they use storage in Drive, and you must delete them in order to recover the storage.

    yes, most of my storage is being used for photos, as you can see below:
    Drive - 0.84 GB
    Gmail - 7.31 GB
    Google Photos - 141.58 GB

    The settings are on high quality and they have been on this option for a long time, both on my mobile and the back up and sync software. Also, when I check on the web it is also on High Quality.

    Can someone solve my issue?

    If you used "Backup & Sync" on the computer to upload, and the setting was "High Quality" these photos should have been compressed and use no storage. I am no B&S expert (I don't use it) but someone may chime in. It may help when you post a screenshot of the settings. 

    To solve the issue you can use "RECOVER STORAGE" on https://photos.google.com/settings. Note that this will take a long time, but it happens on Google's side, thus no need to leave the computer on.

    So, I've been uploading some of my old photos from the time of digital cameras using the "backup and sync" software for windows.
    The thing is: a lot of photos have the same name, since the camera kind of resets the file name every 1000 pictures taken (ie: I have a DSC_0001 from a photo of 2009 and DSC_0001 from 2010 and so on).
    They are different photos, but google prevents them of being uploaded stating that they are duplicate.
    Is there a way to prevent this to happen?
    Or do I have to rename all of my photos so they do not have the same file name (which would take a lot of effort... )?

    Since your account is linked to your Picasa, if you cannot access that account, there is no way to recover your Photos.

    If you're talking about a movie you made using the features on the Google Photos website, you can find that file easily by clicking in the search box at the top of the website, then clicking "Show More" in the middle section. You'll see Favorites, Videos, Selfies, Movies, Animations, Collages, etc., etc. Clicking those will show you all of the relevant pictures, videos, or whatever it is.

    There is no way to achieve your requirement. As a work around, create an album with all photos/videos and share it.

    If you need this requirement, please send a feedback to Google Photos team by following the below steps.
    • Open Google Photos app.
    • At the top left, open the Menu , then select Send feedback.
    • Describe about your requirement
    • Click on Send icon.

    Seems like a strange limitation.  I tried to select all photos in my library to add to an album and it would not allow to to select all. I would have to select individually (or by date) which would take a very long time.  Thanks for the response though.  I did post a suggestion.

    I was selecting pictures manually from photos app to create an album. In the process, sometimes I selected date link to select all photos on a particular day. But it selected random photos.

    I watched your video. That is indeed strange behavior! I have not seen this problem elsewhere. 

    I will reach out to the other Product Experts to ask if any of them have dealt with this before and together we will see what can be done.

    do you still have the issue?
     
    A complete reset of the Google Photos app may be required,
    1. tap the 3 bar menu at the top left of the photos page
    2. tap your email address and select Remove active account
    3. Power down/up or restart the device
    4. sign in again making sure you are using the same email
    5. check that the Backup & sync settings are correct
    6. wait until getting photos finishes, could take a while, please wait until it completes

    I'm using google photos app since 2017. I know it's not a big time but I learned a lot from google team about it. Thank you so much for this awesome application. Today I'm here to discuss about a bug in Google Photos. 
    Let's suppose today I downloaded the Google Photos app in my cell phone and make syncing on(so that google photos app can sync my all photos). My cell finishes syncing in next an hour. After this syncing I turned off the syncing in "Google Photos" and clicked some nature photos in my cell phone. After that i decided to create an album in App to save my nature photos. After following procedure of creating album, I've created an album and added 10 photos. And after finishing all my work found that all my album photos are available with sync photos(from my phone).
    THE THING I WANT TO MENTION HERE IS THAT "WHY MY ALBUM PHOTOS AVAILABLE WITH SYNC PHOTOS FROM MY CELL PHONE?"
    Q. Why album option available if all photos are still mixed up with all photos?

    => When I tried to remove/separate my album album photos, all photos get deleted from app.

    I ALSO WANTED TO MENTION MY LAST POST ABOUT GOOGLE PHOTOS WHICH IS STILL PENDING.

    Hello deepakjhic,

    Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.

    Are you referring to no photos in the Google Photos library? If yes, are you logged in to Google Photos with your Google account? It can be possible that the photos weren't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon  (which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.

    Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.

    Meanwhile, also try giving the below steps a try once again in a sequence to help resolve the issue:
    • Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
    • Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
    • Clear App data:
      • Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
      • Touch Apps.
      • Select Google Photos in the list.
      • Touch Clear data.
    • Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
      • Visit the Google Play Store.
      • Open Google Photos.
      • Touch on Update.

    Hi, don't apologise for a long post it is good to understand everything.
     
    Albums are Web based and when you create an album the photos are uploaded to your library as part of the creation process.  The best suggestion if you do not also wish to see them on line is to select and use the 3 dot menu option to Archive so they will be hidden from the library.
     
    Albums are simply ways of grouping your photos and all photos in albums, the photos originals are all stored in the library and shortcuts placed in the albums.
