Question: Ive lost sum important vids and I know I didn't delete them were the heck are they

I can't find my vids I didn't delete them they just disapeared

Hello Brent,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.

I understand and I'll be happy to help. Were the photos backed up to Google Photos (cloud)? It can be possible that the photos weren't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon  (which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.

Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.

In case, you are uploading a large amount of data (photos/videos), please know that it might take 24-48 hours for the photos and videos to sync across all devices. Please ensure to have 'Backup & sync' enabled on the Google Photos settings while you're backing up your photos and videos. To check is the content is backed up, login in to photos.google.com to checked for your backed up photos and videos.

However, if you're sure they were backed up, I recommend you looking for your video here:
If a photo/s is deleted from Google Photos, it would go to Trash/Bin for the next 60 days (after deletion). Unfortunately, if the photos aren't found in Trash or deleted from Trash, I'm afraid, you might not find them else where to recover them because Trash is the last resort to retrieve your lost/deleted photos.

Meanwhile, please uninstall and reinstall the Google Photos app on your iOS device and login with the same Google Account to check if this sorts the issue.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,
Amanda

Hi Kenny,

Welcome to the Google Photos Product Help Forum.

We are mostly user volunteers here, and have no access to accounts, etc.

Focus first simply getting into the Google (Gmail) Account.  It is probably easiest to do this on a computer (rather than mobile device).  First try simply to get into Gmail.  It sounds like maybe you enabled 2 factor authentication, but in a way that does not seem to make sense.  Are you sure it does not say it is sending a text?  Maybe it is sending a code to another of your email addresses (check their spam folders).

This seems to be the most comprehensive source of data on recovery of Gmail addresses.

Excerpt:
Lost Password Recovery. The recover process can be started in either of two ways:
Try all possible recovery emails and recovery phones which you have access to.  If possible, log into the recovery site from an IP address you have used previously.

You might find more expertise on recovering accounts in the Gmail support forum.

Good luck!

I(A) enabled shared libraries with a partner account(B). A->B

I also added A as partner account to B. B->A.

What I am noticing is, that from original account A, several photos are missing. I am sure about this, as photos which were uploaded from A, as not present in A account, but are available in B account.

What's going on. I am not even sure if photos are missing from both accounts. How can I trust google photos to use it as a single source of truth backup?

Answer:

@Ashish said: "What's going on. I am not even sure if photos are missing from both accounts."

This is a crucial piece of information. Can you check and then write back?  Thanks.

Answer:

What i mean is, i know very sure of photos added from A, which i found on B account, but not in A. It may also happen that some photos which are missing in A are not even present in B. How do i know if something is missing in both accounts unless i know exactly which pic.

Answer:

Can you replicate the problem? That is, can you take some shots as a test and add them to one account then see if they are in the other, then vice versa? If so, this should give us some more to go on.

Answer:

I browsed more and found a lot of photos which are either missing in A or B. I can find occurrences as recent as Feb this year. Do you need some image names to debug?

Answer:

@Ashish
"Do you need some image names to debug?"
This is a user to user forum, and we (users) cannot debug anything. You can submit feedback to the Google Photos team, but honestly we have no idea whether that will help. It seems that they (almost?) never reply. It may help when you start with  #photoshelp and provide explicit consent for Google to look into your account to resolve this.

I accidentally clicked "upload to cloud" on one of my videos. I didn't want that so I turned off WiFi so it would stop uploading and I could figure out how to cancel it. But the problem is I can't figure out how to cancel it. It's been a few days and it's been really frustrating. I can't turn on WiFi until this goes away.

Hi Raegan, the first thing I would do is to tap the 3 bar menu option and Remove active account. Sign in again and wait for it to finish 'getting photos. This should reset all data and put things back to the time you initiated the upload, fingers crossed, Peter

My Win 10 PC froze after a recent Windows update. The final solution after days of work was to Reset the PC. That removed all apps except the original Windows apps. So I reinstalled Google Photos which now says it is "idle" but I know I've added photos since the reset. How do I proceed to get Google Photos to begin syncing again WITHOUT copying (or duplicating) 1000s of files already stored in the cloud by Google Photos?

Answer:

Hello Jonathan,

Thanks for pitching in to the Google Photos Support Community.

Photos once backed up would upload again. Google Photos has identical duplicate detection, where if you have uploaded photos to Google Photos already, it will not re-upload the same photo (each photo file has a unique "Hash" that allows us to determine this).

Hence, Google Photos avoids uploading duplicates, when different upload methods or devices are used, as long as the photos aren't edited. There is no easy way to remove duplicates, but some of the following may help:
  1. You can delete duplicates manually, for example in https://photos.google.com/ where they should be next to each other.
  2. The problem is however which one to delete:
    • one photo may be edited, the other not,
    • one photo may be in an album, the other not.
  3. When the upload dates are different (for example when you uploaded long ago via Picasa, and now again using the Desktop uploader). It may be easier to delete the duplicates in https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ where they are sorted by upload date.
  4. There are more ways to get a useful search result, for example the device from which they are uploaded.
  5. See https://sites.google.com/site/picasaresources/Home/Picasa-FAQ/google-photos-1/how-to/how-to-search-for-photos
  6. Since very recently it is possible to delete photos directly from an album. Go to "More options" (3-dots icon), and use "Move to trash"
  7. When you uploaded in the free "High Quality" and have your photos in albums, it may be wiser to simply ignore the duplicates in the library.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Amanda

For some sudden and unknown reason, when I access google photos through the web or on my iOS app, If I try to go back to a year previous from 2016 the scroll bar will start "skipping" until settling on a random year. I've been using google photos for years and have photos uploaded all the way back to 2000 (manually uploaded obviously). Any ideas? It's driving me insane and I haven't seen anyone else report it. Video of issue

Answer:

Hi Andres,

Welcome to the Google Photos Product Help Forum.

You video was very helpful, but it looks to me like you really don't have any photos (or very very few) between 2011 and 2016.

On your computer,  if you have a scroll wheel on your mouse, zoom out so you can see a lot of photos and scroll through them quickly.  Then use the cursor control keys (down arrow) to scroll quickly through your images.  Slow down when you get to early 2016, there seems to be nothing (or very little) until 2011.

Type 2014 into the search box. This may not work perfectly but I am guessing you won't find much.

Are you using the Backup & Sync Tool on your computer? Did you reorganize files on your computer recently?

Good luck!   Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user)

Answer:

Dear god, I found 300 photos (random) that I certainly DID NOT delete, and when I restored them they didn't even go back to their correct places!!!

I DID use backup and sync but I remember specifically unchecking some option so it didn't add anything to my google photos to avoid duplicates. I realized that it was just going to use too much google drive space and proceeded to delete everything (on google drive only!!!).

Why did the changes affect google photos? I already talked to google drive support and they told me it's "impossible" google drive messed up something since they're separate products...

I'm banging my head against the wall because literally everything is out of place and has missing stuff! Is there anyway to revert this mess? I used back up and sync less than a month ago.

Like I said, there were only 300 photos in the trash and when I restored them I didn't even see them back in their place!

Help?

Thanks for your reply!

Answer:

Hi Andres,

I feel your pain!

They are out of order on the web at? : https://photos.google.com/u/0/  Strange.  It might be interesting to try a different browser (or even logging out and back in on your Google Account).

If you can find a couple of the restored images, where are they in the timeline and what does the date look like (via the Information Panel - i icon).

I don't really have any basis to say this, but you might as well check the recycle bin on your computer also and
You could look in these places..
https://drive.google.com/drive/photos  (probably no longer relevant)
I am really sort of grasping at straws since I have never had this problem (and honestly I am not using Backup & Sync on my computer - most of my images come directly from mobile devices or I just UPLOAD from  https://photos.google.com/u/0/  ).

Good luck!   Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user)

I am trying to make a backup of my google photo library using Takeout.
I have created an archive which is in 22 separate 4GB parts. However, due to network failure errors, I have not been able to download part 17 of the archive as I have hit the limit for number of downloads without successfully downloading it.

I understand that all I can do is make a new archive as this limit cannot be circumvented. But I have looked around and I can't tell the following -  if I make a new  archive of the same data and download part 17, will this be equivalent to the now inaccessible one? I really don't want to have to download the full 22-part archive again if at all possible.

If not, is there any other way to figure out which files are missing so that I can complete my backup.
thanks for any help anyone can give.

Answer:

We can't solve such problems (no Google here).
Besides: take-out produces a terrible folder garbage - you better can create yearalbums on photos.google.com and download one per day.
But wait for better comments here because I am fading-out.

Answer:

@Samuel
Google Takeout for Google Photos is in fact the Takeout for Picasa Web Albums with a new label.
  • In Picasaweb ALL photos were in albums of max 1000 (later 2000) photos. That did work well.
  • Google Photos creates hundreds of albums on https://get.google.com/albumarchive sub "Auto Backup". The downloads using Takeout thus may be a real mess. There may also be duplicates because photos may be in these date albums and in your own albums. For this reason the number of files and albums in https://myaccount.google.com/dashboard may be completely wrong.
  • Takeout may work better when you
    • add all photos to (not too big) albums
    • select these albums in Takeout
  • You can also download photos/albums directly from Google Photos. You find more info here.

I've deleted files from my google photos, even from trash, is there any way to recover them?

Hello Smithel,

I'm sorry, but the photos can't be restored if the trash is emptied.

Don't see the photo or video?
If something isn't in your trash, it can't be restored. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
  • You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago
  • You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash
  • You permanently deleted it from your trash

Source:  See if you can restore deleted photos and videos

But there is maybe a small chance that you can recover the photos, you can try to use a recover deleted photos app.

@Sugaree, Picasa is no longer supported and I would suspect the premium license is no longer valid as access to the Picasa API is being removed completely in March.

You can see all photos uploaded with Picasa at https://photos.google.com/ If they are not there, no app will be able to show any more than you can see on that page. The Google Photos app is all you need,

Question: Can you help me go back to my 2$ free methof

I don't got no credit cards only cash

Hi Saul,

I'm sorry but I'm not quite sure what you're after, this is a Google Photos forum and we don't look after cash. If your talking about Google Drive storage then you'll need to have an online payment card to set that up.

I lost my Google pixel phone on the 7th of October. My phone was backed up earlier that day. When I logged into my Google account all my photos from the past 3 years have disappeared, are not in the trash. contacts and videos have been backed up and are accessible.
Google have refused to do anything, have failed to answer my previous forum questions and I have been trying to get support FOR A MONTH from the pixel support team
Truly shameful customer service. I'm going to be taking legal action if this is not resolved.

Question: I have lost all of my photos from 2013-2017. How can I find them?

I have tried archive folder, trash folder and still can not locate all the photos from 2013-2017

Hello Maxine,

Best,
Amanda

Question: How to have photos go to google photos instead of gallery

I want photos to go to google photos not gallery.

I do apologize if I used the wrong categories, Bob.  You have been teleported to the Google Photos Community where their experts will be more than happy to help you.

Enjoy your day,

Shannon

Answer:

@Bob
Are you talking about photos on a mobile device ?

When you take a photo on a mobile device it goes to a folder on the device, usually under DCIM\\Camera. Gallery is only an app that shows you the photos that are in folders on your device, it does not contain the photos.

Similarly the Google Photos app shows the photos that are on your device, but it can also be used to upload to Google Photos and show photos that are in Google Photos.

In order to upload photos to Google Photos:
  • Check in main menu to which account Google Photos is connected.
  • You can activate "Backup & Sync" in the settings,
  • or select photos and upload manually (3-dots > Back up now).
There is much more to learn. I recommend to read the Help:
