I switched phones from an Iphone to a Google Pixel 2 a few months ago. I backed up my photos from my iphone (spanning 2 1/2 years) with google photos and they all showed up in the correct order on the photos app. However, anytime I use instagram, all of the photos that were transferred are in a random order and it's different every time. Any picture actually taken on my google phone is in the correct order. Has anyone else experienced problems with this? If so, how did you fix it?

Do you mean when you go to upload photos to Instagram, looking through the ones available to upload, they're out of order? This view doesn't use the Google Photos interface so I'm not sure how the order is determined. Are these photos stored on the actual phone, or are you browsing through your Google Photos online Photos through Instagram?

Yes, when I go to upload to Instagram the photos are out of order and in a different random order each time. But ONLY the photos that were transferred to my Google phone from my iPhone are incorrect. The photos I've taken on my Google phone are in the order I took them.

It must be something to do with the modified date, or maybe date created on the phone- I just checked my Instagram and do see some photos that had been downloaded show out of order (if going by date taken). I am able to see certain pictures, but I want all of them, and I cannot see any of my screenshots from my old phone. I can't go into it and do anything, I can only access it from other devices. Most likely your screenshots were not backed up, this is not a folder which Google Photos backs up by default. Did you ever see the photos in another location, such as on the photos.google.com website or the app on another device? If not, they likely were not backed up and won't be able to be recovered without being able to access the old phone.

Just because you can see photos by opening the Google Photos app, that doesn't necessarily mean they've been backed up. Google Photos also acts as a viewer for photos that are stored on your phone.

At the top of the Photos section of the app, it will tell you the status of your backup. Unfortunately it does not indicate the status of individual photos.

This indicates backup is pending (recent photos not yet backed up)

This indicates backup is complete

This indicates backup is disabled for this device or account

Could these photos also be backed up anywhere else- iCloud, Verizon backup, Dropbox, OneDrive, etc? I suggest looking in every possible place just in case. One of our other Top Contributiors, Ms Drasby, has a really great blog about Google Photos. There's not an option to actually move them from your general photos view to the Album; but what you can do once you have created the album with all those photos in is archive them so they'll remain backed up to Google photos but not in your main photos view.

Photos in albums are not "copied". There are no photos in albums, only links to photos that are in the library or archive. That means:

one photo can be in several albums, but there is still just one photo
when you edit a photo (in library or even in an album) it shows edited in all albums
when a photo is deleted from the library it thus disappears from all albums
photos in albums do not use extra storage

The 'Choose the upload size of your photos and videos' page has some information about video uploads in high quality, but it doesn't mention frame rate:

Videos higher than 1080p will be resized to high-definition 1080p. A video with 1080p or less will look close to the original. Some information, like closed captions, might be lost.

I don't have any videos above 1080p, but I do have lots of videos in 60fps (and a handful in 120fps) which I'd like to preserve.

Will the free 'high quality' setting lower the frame rate of these videos please?

Now when I attempt to access them, I get an endless "Loading" loop. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and also unlinking and relinking my Google account. I downloaded Filmora Go and the app cannot even link with my Google account. This makes me think the problem is with my Google account or with Google photos.

Roku uses the deprecated Picasa API which is currently under extension until March 15th

There are two activity cards appearing in the Assistant tab of Google Photos showing activity, saying "Photo edited on different device" and "80 items deleted on different device."

The edited photo does not belong to me nor has it been shared to me, I have never seen it or the person in it. The deleted items include a combo of my personal pictures and photos of a strangers Vegas trip.

I just recently changed passwords and enabled verification by phone. I have not shared these photos nor have they been shared with me.

Google's security page does not show any other devices but the two I'm using.

How is this happening and how do I terminate this strangers device from accessing my photos? Very frustrated.

Every day now, since a week or so, I'm getting an assistant message saying "You edited X items on a different device". Hi Joe Yiu,

Once you delete them from the trash they are permanently deleted; they are only recoverable in 60 days if they are still in the trash.

You can try using a third party photo recovery app at this point to try to recover some of what was lost from your phone - just type photo recovery into the play store and see what options are available. I can't recommend any as haven't used one personally but some people do have success that way.

I'm sorry to hear about your missing photos did you ever see the photos in another location, such as on the photos.google.com website or the app on another device?

Just because you can see photos by opening the Google Photos app, that doesn't necessarily mean they've been backed up. Google Photos also acts as a viewer for photos that are stored on your phone. If a photo shows either of the two icons shown below, then it is being viewed from your phone's camera roll on the phone.

In this screenshot - the cloud/slash icon means these photos are stored on the phone and are not in the cloud (for the Google account currently being viewed at least).

In this next screenshot, the circular arrow icon means that these pictures are stored on the phone and are waiting to be copied to the cloud. (aka waiting to be backed up)

Could these photos also be backed up anywhere else- iCloud, Verizon backup, Dropbox, OneDrive, etc? I suggest looking in every possible place just in case.

There have been some reports of Google Drive being able to restore user’s deleted photos. Below are steps that another user posted here Steps:

Go to Google Drive help and click on contact us.
Select any option, but selecting Missing or deleted files is recommended. Then select Request chat option.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Don't tell them that you are trying to restore Google Photos.

REASON: Our storage is shared across Google Drive, Gmail, Google Photos. Google Drive help is there to assist you only on Drive related queries. So, if you tell them that you are about to restore permanently deleted Google Photos, they will end the chat with giving you this product forums link which is not at all useful. But the hack here is that Google Photos can also be accessed from Google Drive (From the left-hand sidebar) and in a way, Google Photos too come under the files of Google Drive. Just tell them that you've accidentally permanently deleted some files in Google Drive and you need those files back.
