I got a notification that I reached my storage limit for photos. It's configured for High Quality not Original Size. Does the notification mean that some have been reduced below 16 MP, and how do I know which photos or videos have been altered? I don't have all of the originals to check their size.
Answer:
Hi Paul, the notification means that all photos >16MP uploaded at High Quality will be resized to 16MP and the only way you can see the size is to look at the individual photo info when viewing it in the Photos tab.
If you check at https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ you will see uploads by the date they were uploaded so you should be able to work out which photos were uploaded after the notification was received.
Regards,
Peter
Answer:
Yes, that's correct Paul it will be all uploads since the notification which will be compressed with any over 16MP also reduced to 16MP

Question: Why do videos that i download show up on the wrong date in google photos?
I tried deleting the video and downloading it again but the video still shows on the wrong date
Hi Aditya,
Thanks for reaching out to the Google Photos Help Community.
I certainly understand your concern regarding the dates of the videos uploaded to Google Photos and I'd like to let you know that, Google Photos would capture the time and date of when they were downloaded to your device and not the date of creation.
However, you may visit this help article for information on how to Edit date & time.
Let us know if you have any questions.
Best,
Nadia
Answer:
google photos consistently does not record the correct date from videos. I have uploaded videos from my Nintendo switch's SD card and all of them end up uploaded as 12/31/1969 or 1/1/1970 neither of which are the dates these videos were recorded since the device and items recorded weren't even invented then. Please forward this problem along to someone who can fix this. It gets tiring having to manually correct the date and time. Sometimes Google Photos has even changed the date on the files themselves after uploading them.

Hi Yugandhar,
I’m sorry, it’s not possible to recover photos permanently deleted from the Google Photos Trash. However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps and run a scan for anything to recover.
In addition I recommend that you contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Just open the Google Drive https://support.google.com/drive/?hl=en&authuser=0#topic=14940&contact=1 contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.

Jomer, deleted Photos are stored in Trash for up to 60 days, if you delete Photos again from trash, that's two times deletion.
Unfortunately, once Photos are deleted from trash there is no way to retrieve them back :(

Almost every picture from before August 2018 has vanished from Google Photos. This is thousands of pics I have no other copies of for various reasons. They are not Archived or in Trash. Photos is pretty set and forget for me.
The timing of the pics vanishing from the Web/phone app seems to be around when I disabled the 'face matching'. Because I wasn't actively monitoring Photos on the web I can't say with 100% certainty when they vanished, but in December 2018 I went to find a specific pic via the phone app, and that's when I noticed things were missing.
The "Create" function under https://photos.google.com/unsaved is SUGGESTING I MAKE COLLAGES USING THE PHOTOS THAT HAVE VANISHED. I assume that the backend for 'creations' is not using "live" copies of pics, but using a cached copy somewhere else... Regardless I see tons of pics as the suggestions for collages, but those pics aren't actually shown anywhere else.
Also, used Takeout as a last ditch effort to get my pics back, the archive contains hundreds of empty folders with timestamps that seem to align with dates for the missing photos (or do the empty folders with the JSON files in them represent folders from other people's albums they've shared with me?)
I did send Google feedback, read the forums, etc. etc. I assume those pics are just gone, but maybe someone from Google will see this...

.
- Sign in to your Google Account.
- At the top, tap Menu

Question: Older photos missing
CONTEXT I back up all my photos to Google Photos via the Google Photos Android app on my phone and t…
CONTEXT
I back up all my photos to Google Photos via the Google Photos Android app on my phone and the Backup and Sync app on my Mac. I also keep a local copy on a backup drive. Most my photos are from my phone but I have a Nikon DSLR I use for special occasions.
PROBLEM
A lot of photos taken with my Nikon are missing from Google Photos. I've gone into my local back up drive and found over 600 hundred photos taken between March and August 2016 are missing. More might be missing but I don't know.
I know they were in Google Photos at one point because there are animations made with the missing photos. Two of the animations here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/3Vzcg2u9ybUBGeN86 but the source images are no longer in Google Photos.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
A) Deleted Google Photos folder in Google Drive – this shouldn't delete photos
I removed the Google Photos folder from Google Drive a few months ago but everything I read in the support documentation said that was ok to do so long as I removed the root folder and not photos within the folder (which I did). I also confirmed the integration was turned off on both in Drive and Photos long before I removed that folder (it had been off for some time).
B) Recovered storage – this shouldn't delete photos
I had some photos from when I first started using Google Photos uploaded at original quality. Earlier this year I discovered I could recover some storage by downgrading them all to High Quality and I did. I'm confident I didn't upload photos at original quality in recent years and even if I did, they shouldn't have been deleted from this process.
QUESTIONS REMAIN
I've re-uploaded a lot of the missing 2016 photos but have to wonder what other photos has Google Photos lost? Will these be lost again? Did it lose any of my photos from my Pixel? This is VERY disturbing and rocks my trust in the product.

Answer:
Hi Michael, thanks for sharing. Others please note that Michael keeps a local copy on a backup drive, this is essential when dealing with cloud storage.
Just a clarification regarding possible causes
A) The protection for photos in My Drive/Google Photos folder only applies to the photos placed in the folder by the system. Any photo uploaded and stored in the My Drive/Google Photos folder will use storage and be deleted if the folder is removed. Recent changes in the Drive structure including removal of the Google Photos icon also means that photos uploaded to the Google Photos folder may not sync with Google Photos
B) I agree that the Recover storage command should not delete photos and have not seen any other reports that it has.
Thanks again,
Peter

The Community is made up of volunteers trying to help by sharing our experience, we have no magic links into Google and are not in possession of any more information than what is in the blog.
The best way to let Google know your thoughts is to provide feedback, see:-
In summary, to send feedback to the Google Photos team
- Go to photos.google.com or open the Google Photos app
.
- At the top left, open the Menu
, then select Help & feedback and/or Send feedback
- You can tell them things like:
- What you like or dislike about the app
- Things that are confusing or don't work
- Things that would help you use Google Photos better
I would suggest the most effective way would be to start the feedback with
#Drive & Photos followed by your thoughts and hopefully some constructive suggestions if you foresee any problems
Answer:

I previously wasn't able to get Drive to not delete my photos from Google Photos that I sync via Backup & Sync when I deleted them locally. So I was just going into the trash in Google Photos every 59 days to undelete them.
Hopefully I won't have to do that any more after this change.

Answer:
Hello Marck,
It is safe to uncheck the box for photo library as it will simply disconnect it from Backup and Sync. Nothing you now do on the Mac will affect Google Photos.
I would caution against deleting your Apple photo library as that will leave you with a single copy on Google, it is always advisable to have the original photos somewhere safe, just in case. But that is your choice.

Peter

How can I stop my camera from putting a copy on my apple photo?
Answer:
You can't, the Apple photo app is acting as a portal to see your Camera roll, it is the same copy which Google Photos sees and then uploads a copy to https://photos.google.com/ You can use Free up space to delete the Camera roll copies or delete them manually using Apple Photos (try one first to make sure it stays on https://photos.google.com/).
Note that this will leave you with only one copy at Google Photos and no Backup copy.

Thanks for the reply. This is as I feared. I have already tried G Drive & many deleted recovery photo apps to no avail. All the deleted photo recovery apps need my android to have an unlocked Bootloader to recover the deleted files, & I am unable to get the code anywhere - Huawei blocked access to these codes last year. Guess my photos are really permanently gone

Answer:
Hi MJ,
I’m sorry for the memories you lost.
It’s unfortunately not possible to recover photos permanently deleted from the Google Photos Trash. However, in case you haven't already you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps and run a scan for anything to recover.
To set your expectations, this may or may not work.

Answer:
Hi Scott,
we're unfortunately unable to help you much as this community covers only Google Photos, not third-party apps that access Google Photos like facebook. It's up to those apps to provide support for accessing the photos stored in Google Photos.
However, you may try sharing the photos from the Google Photos app to the facebook app and see if there's an option for adding them to a comment.

How to get music from Spotify on creating a movie instead of from Apple Music ?
Hi Marcello Cortez!
All music resources on the Internet have content that is protected by copyright. This means that you cannot simply use any kind of music at will, as this is copyright and you need to buy it to listen. Any user can get your video and listen to the tracks illegally, which violates the laws. Therefore, you can only use music that is legally available to you, and you can easily share it only if it does not violate the rules for using Apple and Google music servicesAnswer:

So i started uploading 720p videos on google photos for the sake of free storage (High quality).
I got a bit disappointed when i found out that the the google photos were reducing the qualties of these videos.they were not exactly 720p(somewhere between 480p &720p) .Was Google lying about not reducing the quality of videos that are below 1080p?i also tried to download my uploads so that I could get the original videos back but the damage had been done.

Videos take a long time fully to process on Google's servers and there have been reports of that time increasing. Wait a bit (up to a few days) and then check again to see if the videos then look better.

This is odd behavior. Videos of 1080p or less should not be reduced as I understand it. Please try a short test video newly taken to see if the problem persists for the new test video. Let me know what you find.
And as for your question whether "you" can restore the videos, if they were uploaded below original resolution they can't be converted to original and, in any case, no one here works for Google; this is a user-to-user forum.

When you upload a video you must wait a rather long time before it is completely processed. Awaiting this you may see a bad reduced copy.

Thank you for your answer. I would just like to argue that accessing Camera Roll is NOT Google Photo's sole purpose. I would say its main purpose is to serve as a showcase and search portal to all the photos you have uploaded to your Google Account.
The workaround you propose works in a way. The problem is photos are never downloaded and you use a lot of data. Google also constantly annoys you with the reminder to "Try Google Photos".
Answer:
What you want it's impossible using the iPhone Google Photos App.
In my case I want Google Photos for a work-related library that I want to access without seeing photos in my iCloud library. The work around is to use photo sync app on your computer to upload the pictures to your Google library (in this case my work-related pics) and access that library from a web browser such as Chrome.

I have a 15-picture album in Google Photos that has been sent to my selected list. Now, I want to send that album to some additional people, but I can't find how to remove the previous list so I can create a new "invite" list.
Answer:
Hi Don,
You can remove access to an album but keep in mind that you will lose any comments that people have previously contributed.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app
.
- Tap Albums.
- Open an album that you've created.
- At the top-right, select More
.
- Select Sharing options.
- Next to 'Share', turn the switch off.
Note: If the person you've shared with has downloaded or copied photos or videos that you shared, deleting your shared link will not delete those downloads or copies.

This is so typical this is so typical for Google. They make a product and it has some really fantastic features and generally works really well, but then it has a few horribly glaring oversights or omissions which make you wonder if they ever use it themselves.
Even worse, they completely ignore all the requests to fix these glaring oversights, or if they do finally get around to fixing them, it's many years later. Google is like a company full of bright kids with ADHD; they'll come up with some really nice stuff, but the company as a whole completely lacks management that's able to get them to finish the product and respond to customer concerns.

Hello Rahul,
Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.
Could you please elaborate the issue or your query for me to assist you better? Were your photos backed up to Google Photos? If yes, it can be possible that the photos weren't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon
(which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.
Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.
In case, you are uploading a large amount of data (photos/videos), please know that it might take 24-48 hours for the photos and videos to sync across all devices. Please ensure to have 'Backup & sync' enabled on the Google Photos settings while you're backing up your photos and videos. To check is the content is backed up, login in to photos.google.com to checked for your backed up photos and videos.
However, if you're sure they were backed up, I recommend you looking for your video here:
- photos.google.com.
- photos.google.com/trash.
- picasaweb.google.com.
- drive.google.com (under Google Photos).
If a photo/s is deleted from Google Photos, it would go to Trash/Bin for the next 60 days (after deletion). Unfortunately, if the photos aren't found in Trash or deleted from Trash, I'm afraid, you might not find them else where to recover them because Trash is the last resort to retrieve your lost/deleted photos.
Meanwhile, also try giving the below steps a try once again in a sequence to help resolve the issue:
- Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.

- Touch Clear data.

I keep getting the error message "Can't add # photos to Google Photos" with Backup and Sync. Most of these files are not photos (e.g. Illustrator files, Photoshop files, Disk images) and I do not have Google Photos syncing turned on. I usually get hundreds of errors but the screenshot is from a computer that only syncs some folders.
At the bottom of the settings screen, there is a link that says "Check your photos settings to see which items from Google Drive are shown in Google Photos" but the link takes me to a page that doesn't show that information.
I already contacted Google Apps and Google Drive support numerous times and they eventually told me in March that this is just a "cosmetic bug that we've shared with our developers" and that I shouldn't worry. I'm worried though when I get persistent sync errors and bugs are not fixed after months or years.

Answer:
Hi Philip,
The reason you get those errors is because you have Backup all files selected and they will disappear if you change to Backup photos and videos.
The settings page refers you to https://photos.google.com/settings where you have the option to sync Google Drive photos to Google Photos if your account is not a G Suite or edu account.
