Nothing. I want to know before I do it. I backed up and deleted pics from gallery,  deleted apps. But it's still saying that I need to free up space so I'm thinking factory reset is my last option, do any of you have any better idea how I can resolve it? Thank you.

Answer:

Hi Amelbey,

First, just to be safe, make sure you see all of your backed up photos at: https://photos.google.com/u/0/

Then use "Free up space" from the 3 line menu in the Google Photos App.

There should be no reason to factory reset to free up normal photos space. Note: the Google Photos app will take up a relatived small amount of space even when there are no original photos on your phone.

NEVER use the Garbage Can to remove images you want to keep.
 - Use "Free up space" to remove the local copy on uploaded images.

I'm using an iPhone 6S and would like to change my phone to an Android phone after backing up my photos. But it just stuck on the Preparing stage. Occasionally, it works but the number of items left was not decreasing but increasing... I've already tried restarting the phone, re-installing apps. Could anyone provide some help or it is common problem that is not curable? Thanks.

Answer:

Hi King Lim Pang,

Your symptoms indicate you are backing up a large optimised iCloud library and it is a long process, with no option but to wait until it is complete before things settle down.  This is made worse because the Google Photos app needs to be open for the Backup to work.

To quote another user:>

Cory Imdieke said:
I've been using Google Photos and iCloud Photos together for a while so I have some experience with this.

The two services play nicely together. The best option is to keep iCloud Photos turned on, along with optimize storage. Then install Google Photos and start the sync. Here's what happens.

At the beginning, there are (let's assume) no full-size photos on your phone, only in iCloud. Google Photos goes through every photo in your library, and wants to upload it. It requests the full-size photo from iCloud, which downloads to your phone and gets cached on the device. Then the full size photo is uploaded to Google, and Google Photos moves on to the next one. It keeps doing this until it's gone through all your photos.

The optimize storage setting is doing what it's supposed to do. At some point when the phone fills up, it will begin removing photos again like before. Let's say for example (using not real numbers) you have 5GB of free space on your device, which is enough to hold 500 images. Google Photos will download those 500 images from iCloud and upload to Google, then iCloud will see you're out of space and remove those images, and move on to the next batch of 500.

Google Photos and iCloud Photos don't really talk to each other much, all of this stuff just happens in the background automatically. When Google Photos asks for a photo, iCloud knows it needs to download it first so it does. Then when your phone fills up it knows it needs to clear off space.

It should pretty much manage itself without needing to do much. When you're totally done syncing with Google, you can just leave your phone and let iCloud delete the downloaded photos when it needs space.
'End Quote'

Question: Can anybody link into my account ?

Did I share with anybody with my google account ?

Hi Umar,

all the photos and videos you store in Google Photos are private and visible only to you unless you intentionally share any. You can check which albums or photos you may have shared by reviewing the Shared screen of the Google Photos app or visiting the corresponding page photos.google.com/shared of the website.

For other Google products such as Gmail or Google Drive I suggest that you review their documentation.

Hello Sonja,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.

I completely understand where you're coming from. Could you please confirm from where did you deleted the photos?

Meanwhile, just to let you know that once if the Photos and videos are backed up to Google Photos then deleting the photos/videos from Google Photos will also get deleted from your device.

Deleting them from your device gallery/iCloud wouldn't delete the backed up copy in Google Photos/Cloud. However, if you delete them from  Google Photos/Cloud it will get deleted from your device/iCloud. Unfortunately, there isn't way to delete them.

Question: Shared photos are smaller and missing the geo-location info

I own two Google Photo accounts and am trying to copy all photos from one account to another via the 'sharing' feature. Settings on BOTH accounts:

1. High Quality (Free Unlimited Storage) ON
2. Remove geo-location OFF

This is the process:

1. Create an album on account A.
2. Add photos to the album on account A (ALL photos are High Quality with geo-location info).
3. Share the album with account B.
4. On account B, open the shared album, select all photos and click on 'Add to library' or 'Save to library' icons.

No matter how I share the photos (via link or by account name), these are the results when I open the photos on account B library:

1. Some photos are copied with the same size (bytes) and with the geo-location info.
2. Some photos are smaller resolution (bytes) and NO geo-location info.

Obs: Geo-location doesn't show when I see the photo directly on the Shared Album on account B.

Answer:

I experienced exactly the same: photos were transferred with 1600 or 2048 pixels instead of the original number. The issue seems to be that the shared album (at least sometimes) starts by showing lower resolution photos, probably to speed up things. When you use "Add to library" or "Download" you get the smaller copies. The solution seems to wait till the full size photos are loaded.

Answer:

Sorry, but the photos appear with the exact same size on account B. It's when I add them to the account B (add to library) the photos become smaller and stripped of the geo-location info...

Answer:

"When I add them to the account B (add to library) the photos become smaller and stripped of the geo-location info..."
That may be correct: I noticed the reduced size (in pixels) and missing EXIF data (not just geo-location) by looking at the photos in my account. I thus decided to delete them and try again. I checked the size in the shared album before adding to library, and the photos transferred in correct size with EXIF data.

Can you try again and give it some more time between opening the album and using "Add to library"? Since the Photos team does not want to communicate with us we have to find out by trying ...

Answer:

Hi janvb, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me.

You are absolutely right about that behaviour: copying to the library is sometimes a lengthy operation (imagine the amount of I/O required to move around, upload and download photos for millions of users, so it's only natural that most of the time they are not instantly copied).

I myself experienced that, but this is what happens when the photo finally goes to the library with its original size: after a couples of minutes (and sometimes hours or even days) I notice that the photos have become smaller (like an internal job in Google Photos is triggered to save the photo with lesser quality).

I can only imagine the pressure on the Photos development team to create ways to compress data (for obvious reasons), but this is a shame: taking a 5MB picture on your phone and see it resized to a 2.7MB is not so bad when you choose the free 'High Quality' storage option (let's remember that this is a free service), but then when it is resized to a 700KB jpg because you shared and added to the library is really frustrating (the quality drops considerably). The same thing happens to videos.

Regarding the geo-location info, it is a complete mistery to me why sometimes it is removed. I do know that Google maps have two kind of geolocation data (Photos uses Maps engine for the GPS data): one associated to a place (for example, a street address) and longitude+latitude coordinates. I read somewhere that only the former are kept when copying images to the library but my tests didn't indicate any pattern (it's just random). I can still download the photos, use exiftool to add the GPS data, but this is not an option for thousands of photos. And even worse, when I upload back the photo with the edited GPS data, it is shrunk again (back to the original problem - although the GPS data is not removed this time).

Like you said, we are only guessing here what's going on (it's a shame Google Photos team is unresponsive).

Luckily an avalanche of questions like mine (I've seen three or four threads about the same issue) might cause someone in Google to take action.

Thanks again, janvb.

Answer:

@software engineer
Regarding the size reduction we have to distinguish between
  • Reduced pixel count when sharing an album, also for photos with <16MP. This is the issue I experienced when opening an album and adding the photos to the library too rapidly.
  • File size reduction due to JPEG compression. That may happen when you have chosen setting "High Quality" in https://photos.google.com/settings and the shared photos were saved as "Original".
Google uses a rather heavy compression, and some users seem to have discovered that compression became heavier at some time. See https://support.google.com/photos/thread/241640
For me the compressed photos are good enough for viewing and sharing. I keep the originals elsewhere. See more about compression here.

Answer:

I meant 'size' as size in bytes, so it is about compression. The problem is that files are being compressed twice in this process of copying to the shared library, and the quality of the photos is terrible. 5MB -> 2.7MB -> 700KB.

From my point of view, there shouldn't be this second compression when adding to the shared library, because photos are already optimised (compressed) when uploaded from the camera.

Answer:

"Files are being compressed twice in this process of copying to the shared library, and the quality of the photos is terrible. 5MB -> 2.7MB -> 700KB."
When a photo is compressed twice with the same quality setting, the size should not be very different. I tried and found:
  • Photo uploaded as "Original": 8MP 2.5 MB JPEG (quality 95)
  • Same photo uploaded as "HQ"  : 8MP  1 MB  JPEG (quality 80)
  • Both above photos are shared and added to the library of another account with setting HQ:  the Original became 1 MB and the HQ became 817 KB. That seems more normal than 2.7MB > 700KB.
I also noted again the behavior which I signaled before (and which is a different issue):
  • I shared both photos with a single link. After opening in account 2, the Original photo was shown with 1600 pixels longest side, and the High Quality one with the original 3088 pixels.
  • I repeatedly pressed F5 to reload, and after about one minute the size of the Original also changed to 3088 pixels. That shows (again) that you need to wait some time before you add to the library. Does the 700KB copy have the same pixel count as the others ?

I have a google album to share pictures of my newborn, but i have a crazy uncle who posts stupid things that are not appropriate for the album and tries adding incorrect users. how can i change his permissions to prevent his insanity from polluting my album in the first place?

Answer:

Hi James,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Photos Help Community.

Currently, there isn't a feature to change individual permissions  on a shared album. However, you may turn off the options to 'Let others add their photos'  and block unknown people from the album. Here's how:
  1. Go to the shared album.
  2. Click More > turn off 'Collaborate'.
  3. To block a person:
    • Click More and click block person.
Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Hi James,

Thanks for writing back.

As mentioned earlier, there isn't a feature that restricts individual permissions on an album. So, if you'd still like to restrict unnecessary addition of photos, you can turn off 'Collaborate' option on the album. Also, please feel free to share your feedback following these simple steps:

Answer:

@David Hahn
There is no Nadia here anymore. We are all users trying to help other users, but do not know WHY things are the way they are.
I too have many questions with the design of that sharing tool, and decided NOT to use it:
  • You are never sure that the invitation arrives, and get no warning when it does not
  • There is no way to remove invitees later
  • Showing all invitees may also be a privacy issue
  • People do reply because they do not notice that they get a mail from a no reply address, you never get the mail and they do not get a warning.
I still use the old way: copy/paste a link in a normal mail. Only those who do "Join" the album will appear in it.

Edit: the sharing by "Send in Google Photos" was changed:
  • You can now only share with Google accounts, or accounts linked to a Google account (and then it may go wrong, for example it shares with a "Recovery address" which is not yours)
  • When sharing selected photos it opens a kind of chat session. You may like it or not, but you can still create and share albums (and hide them from the Albums view if you want).

When I googled the question I didn't mean that I couldn't see photos in my maps profile; I meant when I looked at photos for locations on Google Maps for which I'd uploaded photos in the past - even some with very few photos overall so looking through all of them was a breeze - mine were not among them. But I'll read the statement. Perhaps it addresses that too.

Hi Rafael,

Google Photos doesn't unfortunately support that feature. You may send your suggestion to the Google Photos team as explained in these instructions https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6156065

Question: Looking for all my photos starting from January 2018, my deleted photos Can I retrieve them

please can you help me recover my deleted photos from the trash from 2018 of January

Hi there,

I'm afraid it's not very likely that you'll recover these photos, but please review the following information in case there are any options you haven't yet tried.

1. Check your online account - photos.google.com
If your photos were successfully uploaded to your online Google Photos account they may be available there. Try visiting photos.google.com and searching for them. If you have more than one Google account, check all of them.

2. Check the trash - photos.google.com/trash
Once you delete photos from your Google Photos account, they're moved to Trash for the next 60 days. If you deleted them by mistake you can always restore them from the Trash folder within those 60 days. Here's the link explaining how to recover them from Trash. If you have more than one Google account, check the trash for all of them.

If you accessed the Trash and manually sent the photos for permanent deletion, or if the 60 days expired, there is no way to recover them from Google Photos

3. Review other options
  • if you previously used Picasa, visit picasaweb.google.com and search for your photos.
  • have you made any backups of the photos on your phone, camera, computer, or elsewhere?
  • there is a small chance that you can restore the photos using a recover deleted photos app (Android). I haven't used them myself so have no specific recommendations. There may well be more app options if you visit the appropriate app store and try other search terms. I don't see any similar apps on the iOS store, but you could check yourself.
  • you can contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Use the Google Drive contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.
  • If you ever shared the photos with anyone else, it's possible they may have a copy they could share back or send to you.

Good luck, and do post again if you need more detail on any of the above points.

I don't want my Photos from phone to be on internet , what should I do to make sure ?

Hi there,

You can turn off "Back up & sync" option. Once you turn it off, your photos never ever backed up into Google Photos server.

Turn back up & sync off:
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app.
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. At the top, tap Menu .
  4. Select Settings  Back up & sync.
  5. Tap "Back up & sync" off.

However, please remember your backed up photos are
  • Private
  • No one can see it except you
  • You can shared some photos/albums with someone and they can see it.

Answer:

Besides: the pictures you normally see in the app are the same pictures as shown in any Gallery, so these are stored on your phone.
But you always can check on photos.google.com for your account if anything is uploaded to Google by accident due to wrong settings. But anything there is private also.
You should not think about general Google for websearch.

Answer:

Hi laasya,
Google photos backup is private unless you choose to share them with someone else; they then can add these photos to their library and use for sharing wherever.

Also don't share to public on social networks.

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community!

I understand your concern. This certainly isn't the experience we'd want you to have.

Could you confirm, if you're experiencing the same on Google Photos web version? If no, I'd suggest trying the below steps and share your results:
  1.  Open your device's Settings app > Tap Apps & notifications > Tap App info > Google Photos app > Storage > Tap Clear data & Clear cache. (If you don't see "Clear data," tap Manage space.)
  2.  If the issue still persists, uninstall & reinstall the Google Photos app or the app updates (whichever is applicable).

I have given Google Photos access to my iPhone Photos.  It took awhile, but they are now uploaded to Google Photos.  There are about 33 GB of them.  I need to free up space on my phone, so I followed the instructions online.  I went to Free Up Space, and clicked on "Delete 5775 photos" but nothing has happened --  I went to my Photo app on the iphone, and looked for Recently Deleted, and there was only one image!
How long will it take the Google Photos app to finish backing up my images?  How long will it then take to delete over 5000 images?
Thanks.

Answer:

Hi Evelyn,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.

Just to let you know that Free Up Space option on the Google Photos app will actually remove/delete all the data file (Photos and videos) from your phone that have already been backed up completely to the Google Photos and not the ones which aren't backed up to the Google Photos.

Since the Photos isn't deleted from your phone, it looks like the photos and videos didn't backed up properly to your Google Photos account. Could you please confirm if you're able to find them on web (photos.google.com)?

Keep me posted.

Best,
Sonya

Answer:

OK, I checked online and I THINK all my still images have uploaded.  With more than 7500, it would be hard to identify missing ones!  But it seems not to have uploaded any videos yet.  The Google phone app says there are 120 items that still need backing up.   I will go through my recent videos, make sure they are uploaded to my laptop's hard drive in  Photos program, and then delete from my phone using the Apple Photos app.  Maybe that's the hang up?  Is there a way to have the app just delete the ones that have been backed up to Google?

Answer:

Hey Evelyn,

Thanks for writing back.

I completely understand where you're coming from. However, Free Up Space is the only best option as it will actually remove/delete all the data file (Photos and videos) from your phone that have already been backed up completely to the Google Photos.

Incase if the Free Up Space option isn't working properly, I'd suggest you try the below listed steps one after the other, as one of them should help to fix the issue:

1. Disconnect and reconnect the Google account from the Google Photos app on your iOS device.
2. Uninstall and reinstall the app.
3. Restart your phone.

Also, try using the Google Photos app by switching the phone to Safe Mode, here's how you can do so:
  • Press and hold your phone's power button for a few seconds until Android prompts you to turn off your phone, just like you would normally do to power it down. Next, tap and hold Power off for a few seconds until your phone asks you to confirm that you want to enter safe mode.
  • To get off the safe mode, simply restart the phone.

Keep me posted.

Best,
Sonya

Answer:

Thanks, but I don't have Android, Sonya.  Mine is iPhone 6 Plus.  And i don't know how to "disconnect and reconnect the Google account from the Google Photos app."
I'm continuing to delete old videos, to see if that solves the problem.  Seems like a good addition to this app would be to allow Free Up Space to just delete all photos/videos which have already been backed up, leaving the others in place to be backed up later.

Answer:

All the videos are now gone from my phone. I deleted them from the Apple Photos app, one at a time, after ascertaining I don't need them anymore.
I have also confirmed that all my 7400+ images are all backed up to Google Photos.  The app confirms this also.  Free Up Space keeps asking if I want to delete 7415 items to free up space, and I keep saying yes, and it apparently tries to do that, but next time I open the app, I still have 7415 items on my phone that can be deleted to free up space!
Deleting these images is the main reason I am messing with Google Photos.  If it won't do that, and allow me to get these backed up images off my  phone, I may just delete the app, for all the good it is doing me.
If anyone has a solution, please advise.

Answer:

Hey Evelyn,

Thanks for writing back.

Have you closed the Google Photos app while Free up Space function is in process? If that's the case, closing the app would stop the process since in iOS any function (backup or deletion) in the Google Photos app wouldn't run in the background. So, it is suggested that you wait until Free up Space is completed.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Best,
Sonya

Small problem, still annoying: Some days in my google photos stream show up twice. Sometimes I could fix the issue by fixing/editing dates on a photo and suddenly they all showed up under one day.
Example:

The above example is one of the days that still have this issue, and these photos were all taken with the same phone and have the correct time, time zone, location etc. I suspected different phones/cameras but that is not the issue here at least.
Any ideas?

Answer:

Hey Nadia! Thank you for the answer and you were right, the app works perfectly fine regarding the dates. Unfortunately it is not an issue with my browser. I checked Edge, Chrome and Firefox, both normal and incognito mode and I cleared the cache. The problem unfortunately still persists, so it must be some issue with the database, I guess?

Thorsten

Answer:

This might not be helpful, but one example is a day where I have 40 photos unter one date and then one single photo in another "paragraph" with the same day. The single photo is from 11.44 am, the first photo in the group of 40  is from 11.45 am. If I change the single photo's time to 11.46, it will get sorted into the bigger group so I only have a single day with 41 photos. As soon as I change the time to before 11.45, it is in its own group again.

Answer:

And more research: Bulk changing the time for the first photo from 10am to 9am and adjusting the other photos accordingly sorted them into one group. changing the time to 9.30 changed the group sizes. changing the time back split the photos up again

Question: Creating Albums from Photos on web browser - incorrect number of photos

I am using the most updated browsers - Chrome/firefox/Internet explorer - they all have had this same issue:
1. I open up Google Photos.
2. I select as many photos as I think can go into the album - I've had selected 1088 photos, but only 1086 are put into the album. I've selected 493 photos, and put 487 in the album. I'll have selected all 24404 of my photos and only 20000 go into the album. So I think 20000 is the limit, so I'll select less than that, say 5000 or so photos, and I'll get an error in the lower left corner of my browser, "trouble creating album". So I'll select a fewer amount, then a fewer amount. I remember that 500 is the max number of photos selected at a time to download, so I'll select less than that amount, 480, and create an album. I'll rename it to the dates I selected, and only 470 photos appear in the album. I'll work on this for hours trying to ensure that every single photo is downloaded to these albums. I'll download "Backup and Synch" and it will only download 10028 files, or 13.7 GB which is less than my 15GB free space, however, on Google Photos it says i'm only using 6.1 GB, but when I open the Google folder, it'll show the 13.7 GB files.
3. So I've tried varied means of downloading using GOOGLE, i've tried to manually select my photos to download, and your WEB app keeps messing up. I've spent hours trying to download these photos to no AVAIL, and i'm beginning to think - after looking at all the problems people have with Google Photos, that you guys bit off way too much to chew, and are regretting it that you've also backed off your support. But since your synch doesnt work, and because I can't download my photos without regretting using Google - I'm going to recommend to everyone to NOT use a google phone if you like your pictures, I'm going to use a different sync for photos on my phone - such as One Drive, or Dropbox, and yes, I'm going to twitter, facebook and other social media to scare people away from your unsupported products.
4. Not expecting any offers of help after #3 so just leaving this up here to go unnoticed, unanswered, and a testament of your terrible product support.
Sincerely, an unsastisfied customer

Question: No help received from cust support for problem with deleting photos from my Android device

Despite repeated interactions with Google customer support I am unable to get an answer that works. …

Despite repeated interactions with Google customer support I am unable to get an answer that works.  My Android tablet is synced to photos.google.com (the photos on my computer).  I keep getting messages on the tablet that I'm running out of space so I want to delete photos on the tablet but keep them on the computer.  But EVERY time I move a photo on my tablet to trash it deletes the photo both from the app AND the cloud.  I know it is not supposed to do that and yet it does.  I've interacted with google support via email numbers of time and with several different support people.  Some of them are very hard to understand.  I follow their instructions to the letter, but the problem is not resolved.

I am extremely frustrated.  Anybody else having the same problem?
WCB

Answer:

Hi Walt Barrett,

Google Photos has a option named "Free up space" which will removed synced photos only from your tablet. So use "Free up Space" option instead of deleting photos manually.

Please checkout https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6128843?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform=Android this help page to know more about "Free up Space" option.

Quick View ( To Free up space ):
  1. On your Android tablet, open the Google Photos app.
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. Tap Menu   Free up space
  4. You'll see how many items will be removed. To delete all the items from your phone, tap Free up.
  5. To see your photos and videos, go to photos.google.com or open the Google Photos app.

Please let me know, if this answer helps you.

Answer:

Free-up space removes the picture-files stored on your tablet and that may help a bit.

But the general problem is that old tablets always have too less space for all apps because everything becomes bigger and bigger after the weekly updates.
So you also need to check which apps can be removed because you never use them seriously. But that hardly makes sense for small apps.
However: the Google Photos app takes a lot of space itself and you don't want to switch-off that fine app.
So there alwas comes a moment that a new tablet is needed.
Hélas.

Answer:

Hi Walt,

I agree with Rinus, I think this is probably more about how much space you have on the tablet. How much gb do you have? Maybe go through the apps you have downloaded and see if there's any you no longer need to have on their.

Google photos wise do you take photos on the tablet? if so the free up space option that Barry mentions may help.

Answer:

Thank you all for the replies to my question.  I appreciate it that a lot.  At this point, however, I don't believe the real problem has been resolved....  Please bear with me with the following comments even though they are a bit long.
  • Yes, I understand the 'free up space' options.  I've followed several time the specific instructions that Barry and Rinus pointed to.  And yes, that can free the space that a picture or two took on my tablet.  But I what I really want to do is to remove from the tablet a very large number (or even all, see below) of the total pictures that if have on Google photos without removing them of course from Google photos on the cloud and on my computer.

  • Yes, I realize that I could buy a new tablet with more storage space.  But other than for the Google Photos app it is and has always served me just fine for my purposes.  My tablet is the Lenovo TB-8504F (according to the Android "System" page) which, I believe, is part of the Lenov Tab 4 series.  It is a wifi-only tablet with no provision for adding memory (and no SD slot).  I'm not 100% sure how much GB it actually has - if I read the specs right it may have 1 GB RAM and something like 2 GB flash memory.  Obviously not a powerful tablet with lots of memory or memory options.
But - I repeat - it accomplishes everything I need except for Google Photos.

  • I also use the Google Photo App on my phone (a Galaxy S8) which obviously has significantly more internal storage and the ability to use a SD card for additional space which to date I've not needed.

  • I used to use Dropbox for my photo storage and backup.  When I realized how great Google Photos is I decided to put my photo archive (something like 37 GB) on Google Photos instead.  And I paid extra to Google for 100GB of cloud storage.

  • Apparently the problem is limited storage on my tablet.  Actually I do NOT use the tablet to take pictures.  Prior to using Google Photos I was able to display the photos on my table that I wanted. But apparently it does not allow me to get the benefit of the Google Photos app for displaying them.  Apparently it also does not allow me to just display on my tablet just a small portion of my photos stored on Google cloud.

  • I am NOT willing to get a new tablet simply to be able to display photos.

  • So perhaps a solution would be for me to simply remove the Google Photos app from my tablet.  But for some reason I don't see a way of doing that.  I did uninstall Google One on my tablet with no problem, but I don't seem to have that option for Google Photos.  Is there a way to uninstall the Google Photos App?

  • Is there a way to disconnect my tablet from Google Photos while still using Google for other things like email?
Thanks in advance for your help

Walt

So I have a problem where I had the setting on that automatically added to my library photos my wife took of our kids.  Months later, a storage promo I had expired causing me to drastically go over my Google drive storage limit.  Now I want to go back and delete all the images that were auto-added to my library since my wife already has a copy in her account.

Is there a way to search only for images that were taken by her so that I can isolate them to delete them and recover storage space?

Answer:

"Is there a way to search only for images that were taken by her?"
The only way I can think of is to search for the device used to take the photos. Seach with the camera name as shown in the info of the photo.

But there is no need to delete them if you use RECOVER STORAGE in https://photos.google.com/settings. That will convert all photos/videos to "High Quality\

Answer:

Hi Aaron,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community!

At the moment we can only delete them manually. However, to delete pictures of your kids, using the search option you can select the face label of your kids and delete them manually. In case if you don't wish to delete pictures and manage the storage limit you may want to perform  recover storage. Please note that this will convert the original uploads to High quality.

Let me know if you've any further questions.

Answer:

Thanks for the reply.  Do you know what the search string would be if I wanted to search for photos taken by a specific device.  Might be tricky since my wife and I both own a Pixel 2.

I do not want to delete all pics of the kids since half of them were taken on my phone and the other half with my wife's phone.

Why isn't there a way to search for pics not taken with the owners device.
