I have permanently deleted some photos
Hi Sk Hasan 9551,
I’m sorry, it’s not possible to recover photos permanently deleted from the Google Photos Trash. However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps and run a scan for anything to recover.
In addition I recommend that you contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Just open the Google Drive https://support.google.com/drive/?hl=en&authuser=0#topic=14940&contact=1 contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.

Hi Cube,
it's unfortunately not possible to tell which photos take up space in Google Photos and which don't.
However, if you don't mind changing the photos you upload from non-Pixel devices at original quality, and slightly reduce their quality, you may recover their storage by compressing them to High Quality as explained in this help page under Reduce the size of your photos & videos https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6220791 Before you do, be sure to read all the help page to understand what High Quality involves.

Answer:
Hello David,
Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.
I understand that you're unable to backup your photos and I'll be happy to help you. Maybe the photos weren't uploaded successfully at the first place to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon
(which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.
Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.
In case, you are uploading a large amount of data (photos/videos), please know that it might take 24-48 hours for the photos and videos to sync across all devices. Please ensure to have 'Backup & sync' enabled on the Google Photos settings while you're backing up your photos and videos. To check is the content is backed up, login in to photos.google.com to checked for your backed up photos and videos.
Meanwhile, also try giving the below steps a try once again in a sequence to help resolve the issue:
- Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
- Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
- Clear App data:
- Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
- Touch Apps.
- Select Google Photos in the list.
- Touch Clear data.
- Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
- Visit the Google Play Store.
- Open Google Photos.
- Touch on Update.
Let me know how it goes.
Best,

Hi Jordyn,
I'm really sorry for the precious memories you lost.

Only the Google Drive support team can try to recover your deleted photos and files, there's no similar service for Google Photos. So I suggest that you wait to see what they can do.
In addition I recommend these steps for securing your Google account and data:
- do a security checkup of your account https://security.google.com/settings/security/secureaccount?continue=https%3A%2F%2Fmyaccount.google.com%2F
- do a privacy checkup of your account https://myaccount.google.com/privacycheckup?continue=https%3A%2F%2Fmyaccount.google.com%2F
- change your Google account password https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/41078
- be sure to enable 2-step verification, this is highly recommended as it makes more difficult to compromise your account https://www.google.com/landing/2step/

I currently have two Google Photos albums on my LG phone. On one of them, when I start to scroll through the pictures, a white quick scroll button (sometimes called a scrubber) appears on the right side of the screen, enabling me to quickly scroll through the pics. However, on the other album, the white quick scroll button does not appear, thus forcing me to take a lot more time searching through the hundreds of pics. How can make that button appear?

"I used the tool in Google Photos to change from Original Quality to High Quality"
There are two different things:
- Changing from Original to High Quality for future uploads in https://photos.google.com/settings.
Note that now this action also urges you to recover storage. If you do not want this you must uncheck that option before you confirm which I would say is wrong (trying to be polite). The option should not be selected by default. - But if you want to compress ALL photos that do use storage you can go ahead, or select "Recover storage" in https://photos.google.com/settings

You can delete cache and data form the Photos-app without ruining anything. And if you also have a normal Gallery viewer on your phone, you even can switch-off the app completely (uninstall can be impossible).

The Drive seems like not connected with this issue. It doesn't even show Google Photos backups there (which there are btw none). The photos app in it's options (via system settings) shows to be using 800mb of data (despite having no backups). Answer:
I'm using Galaxy A2 Core (and it comes with it's own Gallery) so I can definitely uninstall Google Photos app but I need it to edit the photos I take (because I like it's editor and the photos after editing keep their original date so there's no date confusion). So I was asking whether hitting "Clear Data" in app's system settings will affect the stuff in my internal storage or not.

I am trying to loop a video for a showroom display on my iPad (Chromecast!) and Google Photos has a loop feature for videos (which Apple does not have). I have the video up on google photos and I can see it on my iPad but when I try to play the video it constantly buffers.
Answer:
You can delete cache and data form the Photos-app without ruining anything. And if you also have a normal Gallery viewer on your phone, you even can switch-off the app completely (uninstall can be impossible).
PS: if you have a modern Android, you also can install the simple Galery Go viewer from Google, which is not connected to the internet at all.
Answer:
The Drive seems like not connected with this issue. It doesn't even show Google Photos backups there (which there are btw none). The photos app in it's options (via system settings) shows to be using 800mb of data (despite having no backups). I just wanna ask that whether clicking on "Clear Data" will affect any data in my internal storage or not?
Answer:
Free up space only removes photos ON YOUR DEVICE that have been backed up. THey would appear at photos.google.com
The space used by the app are photos that have not been deleted.
Answer:
Help I have the same problem. I don't use google photos at all and yet it is taking up 0.99GB of space on my account. How can I get this space back? Help!

I uploaded all of my wedding photos into an album. I noticed it says all the photos have been uploaded (the photo count is correct) but 61 photos are not visible in the album. So, I uploaded the photos again. It says all went through yet the photos are still not visible. I created a separate folder and those 61 photos uploaded fine to that folder. When I try to move them from that album to my main wedding album, it says upload is complete but again, they are not visible. I want to have them all in one album. How can I fix this issue?

Question: I have pictures on my pixel and want to save to my laptop... How?
oplapt toy to pixel my on album the save /copyI can How
You can download them directly from https://photos.google.com weekly.
You can select up to 500 and the download is a zip-folder which should be unpacked to get a normal folder named Photos. Best to move the contents in a new folder named 2019 in the main Picture-folder and then delete the empty Photos-folder and the zip, because the next download also will be named Photos.
Because you have a Pixel, your pictures will have original quality.
Good luck

How can I keep the folder structure when backing up? Meaning if I have a receipts folder on my phone when backing up is there a way to automatically have a folder / album in google photos containing all the images from the receipts folder on my phone?
Answer:
Hi tr41l_bl4z3r,
Google Photos doesn't unfortunately preserve any local folder structure when uploading photos from an Android device. All the photos from all folders are uploaded to the photo library in reverse chronological order and you have to manually sort them into albums or accept the albums the Assistant may suggest.

Hi Megan,
Welcome to the Google Photos Product Help Forum.
We are mostly user volunteers here, and have no access to accounts, etc.
This seems to be the most comprehensive source of data on recovery of Gmail addresses.
Excerpt:
Lost Password Recovery. The recover process can be started in either of two ways:
- Go to the Gmail sign in page at https://mail.google.com/ and after entering your e-mail address click the "Forgot password? link.
- Go directly to the start of the recovery process at https://accounts.google.com/signin/recovery
Try all possible recovery emails and recovery phones which you have access to. If possible, log into the recovery site from an IP address you have used previously.
Another thought, is that you MAY have saved your Google account password in the password management facility of a browser you don't use very often (Firefox, IE, Edge, Chrome...). If you think this is a possibility you might search ~password management~ with the name of the specific browser.
You will find more expertise on recovering accounts in the Gmail support forum.

Hi Ravi,
if the deleted photos are still in the Google Photos Trash you might be able to restore them as explained in these instructions https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6128867?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&oco=1
Otherwise it’s not possible to recover photos permanently deleted from the Trash.

The help says: "Any photos you save from a shared library won't take up storage, unless your partner stops sharing their library with you, or deletes the original copy."
But like Rinus said: when saved as "High Quality" the storage used should stay zero.

For information, the stated conditions do not currently work. All photos are stored at original size (assuming they are original on the donor account) and do not use quota under any conditions. However, best not to rely on this as it might change at any time. It has been like this since at least May 2018

Hello Alizabeth,
Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.
To assist you better, please let me know how exactly are you trying to upload the photos? Directly or via the Backup and Sync tool? Also, check if you're facing the same issue while uploading/backing up via the Google Photos App?
Meanwhile, as your photos aren't being saved/uploaded to your Google Photos account, try checking your backup status:
- Open the Google Photos app on your mobile device
.
- At the top left, touch the menu icon
> Assistant.
- Read the first card. If it says:
- "Waiting for connection" or "Waiting for Wi-Fi": You need to either change your settings or connect to a Wi-Fi or mobile network. Touch the card to change your settings.
- "Back up & sync is off": Touch "TURN ON" on the card to back up your device's photos and videos, including ones you capture in the future.
- "A photo or video was skipped": A photo or video on your mobile device doesn't meet our upload requirements:
- Photos can't exceed 75MB or 100 megapixels
- Videos can't exceed 10GB
- "Backing up photos" or "Backup complete": This means your photos and videos should be saved.
Just a heads up: Photos and videos that aren't backed up will have this cloud icon
or circular-arrow icon based on the version of Google Photos App on your phone.
If you're still facing the issue, try the steps from this "My photos aren't being backed up" help center article.
Also, I'd recommend you try restart your computer first. It might sound simple, but sometimes that's all it takes to fix the issue. Incase if you've uploaded through the Backup and Sync tool, I'd suggest you try uninstalling and reinstalling the Backup and Sync tool.
Keep me posted.
Best,
Sonya

Answer:
Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out to the Google Photos Help Community.
I certainly understand the importance of being able to backup photos and videos. Please know that, if a photo or video didn't back up, it might be because:
- Item size: Photos larger than 75MB or 100MP, videos larger than 2GB, and items smaller than 256 x 256 can't be backed up.
- Slow network connection: Your device might have a slow or no network connection.
- Unsupported file type: See which file types can be backed up.
In the meantime, please try these steps:
- Sign out of your Google account and sign back in.
- Delete the Google Photos app and reinstall again.
- Restart your device.
- Take a look at your Wi-Fi connection and make sure it's up and running (it doesn't hurt to disconnect it and reconnect it).
You may also upload the videos manually to Google Photos from your browser:
- On your computer, open photos.google.com.
- At the top right, click Upload.
- Find and select your photos.
- Click Open.
You might also want to check this help center article for more information on My photos aren't backing up.
Keep me posted.

Nikhil,
Unfortunately, the current collage feature in Google Photos is severely lacking in functionality. I, too, would love to see it improved to include the customization options that are pretty standard in most other collage-makers.
My suggestion is that you (and everybody else who wants a better Google Photos collage feature) use the Send Feedback option in the sidebar menu on the left to ask developers for this improvement. If enough users ask for it, hopefully it will become a higher priority for inclusion in a future update.
For now, however, you'll have to use a third-party program or app to make your collages.

Picasa could pull all photos from Google Photos till last year, but the Photos masterminds decided to kill that option. I understand that you no longer have your photos locally, which is a pity. Having them only in one place is not safe. Downloading all photos can take a lot of time indeed, depending on how many you have. You find some info on downloading in this link.
"Hopefully it can identify people as well as current google photos or at least what it used to."
Picasa3 works as usual for local editing/organizing, but no longer for connection with the web (mail, upload & download from Photos).

Tried both snapfish and freeprint exactly same happens
Any help much appreciated as I can't easily print my photos at the moment

Answer:
Hi Lorenzo,
I can't replicate this issue so it might be something corrupt on your phone.
I'd suggest that you try clearing the cache for a couple of apps and then restart your phone.
I'd suggest that you try clearing the cache for a couple of apps and then restart your phone.
- Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
- Tap Apps
Google Photos
.
- Tap Disable
- Clear Cache and Data
- Go back to Apps and repeat the steps for Snapfish, Freeprint and Google
- Restart your phone
When your phone has restarted, log into Google Photos again. And then try logging into either of your two apps.
Let us know how you go.

Question: permissions needed-allow sdcard access
Hi Berhane,
Thanks for writing in!
Is Google photos trying to request access to your SD Card?
If that is the case:
You have to clear app cache of your Google photos
Open it then it will ask you to grant access to your SD card as you setup.
Does this help?
Best,
tarhe
Answer:
No.I need to delete photos to make room, and the device is not allowing it.Cause given to me that access to sd card is assured for Google Photos.
Answer:
Hi Berhane,
Have you tried using the free up space features in Google photos to see if it deletes photos which has already been backed up?
Do you receive any error message when you tried deleting any of your photos?

Question: want to delete all the previous sinc photos and not to sinc photos from now
unintensionally saved photos
Hi Thwe Myo Nyunt,
Thank you for posting to the Google Photos Forum today, so firstly do you have a backup of the previously synced photos? If you either have them safe elsewhere or no longer want them, from a desktop computer or laptop go to www.photos.google.com , select all the synced photos that you don't want and delete them. https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6128858?hl=en-GB&ref_topic=6128848
Once you've done this, from the Google Photos app on your phone, choose to backup and sync everything you have on your phone to sync them: https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6193313?hl=en-GB&ref_topic=6156061
If you have anymore follow up questions, please let us know.
Have a lovely day 😊

Hi Steve,
Thanks for writing in!
