If auto backup was active in the Google Photos app on the device you may be able to access the photos by visiting the https://photos.google.com website. Be sure to sign in with all the Google accounts your mom uses. See also if you can locate the stolen device with Android's Find My device Tools https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager
 
In addition I recommend these steps for securing your Google account and data:
To revoke the stolen device access to your Google account:
  1. on your computer, visit https://myaccount.google.com/device-activity
  2. click the unknown device
  3. under Account access, click REMOVE

This is awful!  having put in countless hours editing photos, only to have transparency replace with a white or black background.  The backup also changes all transparent imagines on my camera roll with a black or white background.  Oh my god!  Images downloaded from the backup of google.com. Also Download with white background.  I have  no fix, or documentation addressing this issue.  I have disabled photo synced desktop, and iPad, yet Google continues  to sync photos creating enormous stress, not to mention time trying to recover original photos which halve been permanently altered , not only in the backup, but ALSO, On my Camera Roll!!  


Please explain the Fix !   Does one have to Delete/create a new google account to stop this insanity?

Don't blame us, because we are users and don't understand what you mean with transparancies. 
If it are special art-files (png?) created by some app, most likely Google Photos can't cope with these special format and changes the background to standard white or black when viewed. 
But that does not mean that your originals are changed also. 
It just is the Google Photos viewer that can't cope with this format - so it makes no sense to store them at Google Photos. 
Perhaps you add such a file to your comment via the paparclip - then we may understand what goes wrong.

If yes, If you've tried to unsubscribe from that individual's email notifications then unfortunately, there's no way to restore the subscription at the moment. I already tested that with spouse and cousin gmail accounts and they are receiving notifications.

This query is for my father with email vkg3012@gmail.com. He is 70 years old and not getting email notification when I share photo albums with him. Others like my spouse, cousin are receiving same. My father told me to work on this issue on his behalf. He is not getting notification from any one in family and not just from me.

I face the same issue. There was an unsubscribe link in a previous notification and I have clicked on it. As expected, I do not receive the email notification anymore. To assist you better, could you please try and check if these photos look same on on web (photos.google.com) or on any other device to see if it's a device related issue or account related issue?

Meanwhile, I'd suggest you try some of these basic troubleshooting steps on your phone:

1. Sign out from your Google account and sign in back.
2. Uninstall and reinstall the Google Photos updates. (Go to Settings > Apps or Application Manager > Google Photos app > Uninstall Updates > OK). As long as you have a strong Internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data), your Play Store app will update to the latest version within a few minutes.
3. Try clearing your app data which is the same as uninstalling and reinstalling the app. After you clear your data, sign in and turn "back up & sync" on again.Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
a. Tap Apps.
b. Select Photos in the list.
c. Tap Clear data.
4. Restart your device.

Hello,
Today I took more than 200 pictures with my Android device and it was the first time I used Google Photos to save them. I was able to see and interact with the photos correctly, but about an hour after that, all the pictures vanished from my phone, they were all deleted without my command. They were not apearring any longer on Google Photos, as well as in the internal Android storage (DCIM> Camera). I tried all methods available on the Internet, including checking all the trash bins and using applications that promise to restore lost files, however, it did not work.
I find others complaining about similar problems that they had using Google Photos, and the only solution they got was talking directly to Google, that found and sent those pictures to them, and that's my last hope. It was a huge amount of pictures from a day of extreme importance for me, I really hope that i can get any help.

Good afternoon. The Google Photos app will never automatically delete any of your pictures. 
 
The only way the app can remove pictures is if you manually and intentionally choose to delete your photos, or if you tap the Free Up Space option (which will only remove the pictures from your phone that have already been successfully backed up to the cloud). 
 
Did you ever view the pictures on the Google Photos website? If they were not visible on the website, then they were not actually backed up. If that's the case, then unfortunately there's nothing that Google or any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you get them back. Google can't help you recover files it never had in the first place. 
 
While working with other users in the past who experienced similar problems with mysteriously disappearing photos, the problem is typically corrupt device storage or a malfunctioning camera app (although with the malfunctioning camera app the photos usually disappear immediately after the picture is taken).

Just because there a billion other "users" who never has asked for perhaps. 
So we still are waiting until next Christmas again. 

In all years with drousy Google I have learnt never to wait and I use Microsoft OneDrive for my historic series which only can be sorted on filenumbers, just because it is much more specialised on photography then primitive Google Drive. And it can be used with Chromecast - Google Drive not.

When you add a "Description" in Google Photos it is NOT added to the photo's metadata, but only to a database. Google owns a clever program called Picasa 3 that added the "Description" to the photo when using "Import from Google Photos\

I downloaded, installed it and succesfully backed it up. However, I now want to delete them from my disk, but there are many exceptions which weren't backed up. When I try to check them on Windows Explorer, the green checkmark only appears at random and for some files, even when they've been backed up. Is there any way for Backup and Sync to remove all files which are already uploaded from my disk only, so I don't lose anything? Thanks! :)

I wanted to keep the backups in Photos, but delete the originals from my hard drive. Since it's well over 30,000 items, it'll take hours to sift through it all and verify if they were really uploaded properly.

I hoped Backup and Sync could delete all the files that were successfully backed up.

Hi,
I had a album of photos disappear when I deleted my trash.
Google Drive help suggested I post here.
The photos were there until Sunday 6 Oct when I deleted some pictures from my main drive, and then deleted them from the trash which was then emptied of course.
I did not realise the photos in the album would also be deleted as I though they were files in this album separately.
I have already tried all the Google support suggetsions, so I hope you can help?

Be aware that Picasa is desktopsoftware - no mobile app.

Welcome to the Google Photos Support Community.

Probably, the photos must have been sent and auto downloaded from other social media applications, for example - Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, etc. to your phone (Android) and hence, Google Photos has picked it up for a sync/backup (maybe) or it can be that these photos were download to your device from the web and has been auto synced to Google Photos as a backup. 

It shouldn't be a case where some one else has the access to your Google Photos and Google Account, until you haven't shared your login credentials with anyone. In case, you need to figure out where did the photo come from and sent it to you, I recommend have a look at other communication media (social sites and apps) assistance just to cross check.

Another possibility, is when an album is shared to you by others in Google Photos. Do you have any shared albums as such?

Question: Why can't I stop others from sharing my album?



Why isn't there an option to prevent other people from sharing my album? There are times I would like to share an album with some people, but I really don't want those people to share the album with anyone else. 

Picasa photos used to have the option of sharing only with select people. Youtube has the option for sharing Videos. Google Drive has the option to decide who you share with. 

We can prevent others from commenting... What is the point of not giving people the option to prevent others from sharing? I want that level of control over my own albums. Until then I do not share albums with anyone but my wife.

I installed Google Photos app on my iPhone 6 Plus.  Running iOS 11.3.1.  Today  I opened the app and allowed it to  access and organize my Photos, of which there are almost 33 GB.  It is still running, many many hours later.  All I get when I open the app is a white screen with the rainbow circles going round and round.  Can't see my images.  
Question 1 --Is this just a feature of the number of Photos I've got?  I can go online, log into Google Photos, and see most but not all of my images there.  I think they are still being uploaded.  Is that right?  Or is it stalled, and must I delete the app and reinstall?
Question 2 --My main purpose in getting Google Photos app is to be able to take the images off my phone after they are uploaded.  Will I be able to do that, once the uploading is complete?

The app finally gave me a screen that isn't blank white.  Must be a function of how many images it had to upload.  Now, however, it is refusing to delete the 7497 items that it says have been backed up.  It starts the process when I use Free Up Space feature, asks if i really want to do it, and continues when I select Delete.  It then says it is deleting.  But later, when I go to Recently Deleted in my Apple Photos app, there is nothing in that album/folder.  So -- please  help.  I need to get at least some of these off my phone to free up space, yet following Google's instructions isn't working.
