Question:

Hi
I was wondering if there's a way people are solving this issue.
I've uploaded a folder of photos in the Backup section of Backup and Sync. Those photos are uploaded to Google Photos by Backup and Sync. All good.
Now I've deleted that folder from the Backup section (basically rearranged things). When Backup and Sync begins I'm getting the error "These photos and videos are already in Google Photos". That's fine but I'd like them to appear in Google Drive Web under the backup section even if they have already been uploaded to Google Photos. They're far easier to navigate with the Drive file system than with the Google Photos search. They are not showing in the Drive folders because "These photos and videos are already in Google Photos".
Any ideas on how to fix this. It's around 3000 photos.

Answer:

There will be no fix, because apparently you did oversee the correct removal setting under Google Drive:

Of course you can upload to another folder on Google Drive (outside the Computer-tab), but then your 3000 will take space in your account and will be not synced. (Google Photos is not synced at all - that is a one time upload).

Please wait for more clever comments :-)

Answer:

Additional clever comments.

The report that photos are already in Google Photos is erroneous, it really means there is a copy in Google Drive, linked to the copy in Google Photos. If there wasn't this clash the new copy would be linked to the Google Photos copy.

Two choices I know of are 1. already in another folder under Computers, or 2. a copy in the legacy Google Photos folder in My-Drive

Do either of those apply?

Peter

Answer:

I don't want to upload outside the computer tab because it will take up quota. Was there a correct procedure for deletion in this case? They would still remain in Google Photos no matter how you delete.

@PeteranDi. There are no copies in Google Drive - I have tried deleting the folder in Drive and then reuploading. It doesn't change the message I receive that the photos are already in Google Photos and therefore not synced with Drive.

My thoughts are to download my entire Google Photos. Then upload Drive folders. Then upload back to Google Photos.

What do you think?

Answer:

The setting in B&S should have been something like "Not delete on both locations" (PC and Drive).
I have a Dutch version in Windows-10, so it is not comfortable to show that window

Maybe important to tell if you are on Windows also or on much more complicated Mac.

But I leave further discussion to Peter now - he has more experience with using B&S etc.

PS: 3000 is not extreme, so starting all over maybe feasible, but should be done with carefull steps.

Answer:

It shouldn't matter if the photos are in Google Photos as choosing them in Backup and Sync has always (for me and just double checked) just associated the Drive copies to the Photos copies without any skips. If you are 100% sure, even if they have been renamed, they don't already exist anywhere in Google Drive (tried searching? then I guess you try your way. Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

Answer:

What do you mean renamed?

Let's say I upload folder "A" containing "1.jpg" (it goes to Drive and Google Photos). I then delete the folder on Drive and locally.

I upload the same file ("1.jpg") in a new folder "B". Then I will get the error that it cannot be synced because it is already in Google Photos.

Is that your experience as well?

Note this is all through the Backup portion of Backup and Sync. Not within the Drive folder itself.

Answer:

Yes, under the Computers tab the first copy in folder A will sync. If a copy of the same photo is placed in folder B it will be skipped. Or if you put a renamed copy in folder C it will also be skipped.

I haven't tried any deleting options.

Answer:

Yes, I think we sometimes confuse the system when we try different things.  I quite often clear the decks and try again the next day after making big changes.

When opening Google Photos for the first time on an Android v8 device, enrolled via KME, using the new Android profiles (AFW) in Airwatch, a message pops up saying "To Continue, give Google Photos access to your photos" and a button to go to settings.
When going to settings it already has permission for the internal storage, as this is granted automatically for all apps via the profiles in Airwatch.
I have tried granting it permission to all the other areas but it makes no difference and it still states it needs access to photos, which are on the internal storage.
Anyone got any ideas?

Question: How can I manually tag faces like we used to be able to do in Picasa and can currently do in Faceboo

Picasa in Facebook allow us to manually tagged manually tag photos

Simple answer: you cannot.
You can leave feedback directly to the Photos team to request that (very useful) feature:
  1. At the top left, open the Menu , then select Send feedback.

Answer:

I have seen numerous request like those since years and still it isnt possible to manually tag / at least manually tell google photo that there is someone on the picure.... Any possibility to have this feature soon?

Answer:

Manual tagging is being rolled out. I checked on a computer:
  • On some recent photos I see in the info panel "n faces available to add" with an Edit icon next to it (pencil). Also on photos with already tagged faces I now see the Edit icon.
  • Clicking the Edit icon allows to select one of the recognized faces, and add it to or remove it from a group. You can also create a new group for a face (+ icon)
  • To add a face to a group you must find it in the long list of faces, which seems very laborious unless you concentrate on a few specific persons: then the faces do appears on top under "Recent".
Note that I only tested this rapidly (it's new), and only in the web app.

You find the help here: https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6128838 under "Advanced tips" >  "Remove, add, or change people & pet labels to your photos".

Answer:

Hi  Qi Miki!
Welcome to the Google Photos forum!
Unfortunately, if you deleted your photos from Trash, they cannot be returned, they are permanently deleted.

For Android:
There is a possibility to find apps in the Play Store that can recover files from Storage to your devices. You can enter a search query and find such apps / programs.

I need to undo what a chat specialist recommend which was to compress my photos to free space without informing that the resolution and size would be affected

Answer:

That compression can't be undone, but brings down your storage at Google Photos to zero.
It may take a day before Google has registered the change.
So have some patience.
Nevertheless you still may have too much usage on Drive and maybe Gmail also: see one.google.com/storage

PS: the compressed quality is still high. If your camera is up to 16 MP the resolution will be the same. If above 16 MP the resolution will be compressed to 16 MP which still is very good.
But if you have made 4K video (extreme consuming storage), then they will compressed to HD.

Hi Frank,

Removing Photos from a Photobook (when creating it, for instance), does not delete them from the "Photos" Library.

If you are concerned, check the Trash (from the 3 line menu or https://photos.google.com/u/0/trash) after you do so. Also, check chronologically, in "Photos" (https://photos.google.com/u/0/) just to be sure.

Hello, as the title says, audio is not heard on videos on my google photos app which were originally iOS screen recordings. When the video has not been deleted from my own camera roll, the audio does work on the google photos app, but after the device original is deleted (through the "free up space" button on google photos) there is no audio on that video on the app. I have tried sending an audio-less video on the app to myself on iMessage and have tried saving an audio-less video back to my camera roll, but there was still no audio in both situations (and I tried both with and without earphones).

I have an iPad mini 2 and am on the latest iOS.

I had deleted all of my device original videos before realizing this issue and I did a test run with 1 new video today, so any feedback would be appreciated.

- thanks!

Answer:

I can't explain the problem with no audio, but there are more problems - maybe related to the videoformat.

But as long as the original is present, you see that original in the Photos-app (like in your Cameraroll).
However: if the original is deleted by using Frre-up space (that is the correct way), you only see the copy at Google.

Here you see quite a couple of posts about audio problems: https://support.google.com/photos/search?q=no+audio

Can add no more.

This is a massive breach of privacy. Ive changed every setting and cant understand how he managed to get my things on his phone without it EVER being linked up and hes never had my password. I need a solution quickly, as this should never of happened in the first place.

Answer:

Hello Joanna,

Welcome to the Google Photos Support Community.

Do you have your Google Photos signed in to other devices as well? If yes, you can go to https://myaccount.google.com/security#activity to see what devices have devices have access to your account and remove access from any accounts which should not have access.

There could be a few reasons why it might of happened - could it be any of the below?
  • Those photos have been shared with you from someone else and then uploaded to account that way
  • Your account is signed in on another device.
  • You sold a device without resetting it to factory defaults.
  • You received the photos through another app
I would recommend you first review your account security, check for any unknown devices, and change your Google password, possibly enabling 2-step verification. If you've looked into these explanations and still aren't sure why you're seeing these photos, please let us know.

Meanwhile, also try giving the below steps a try once again in a sequence to help resolve the issue:
  • Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
  • Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
  • Clear App data:
    • Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
    • Touch Apps.
    • Select Google Photos in the list.
    • Touch Clear data.
  • Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
    • Visit the Google Play Store.
    • Open Google Photos.
    • Touch on Update.
Let me know how it goes.

Question: How can I find my 2 years ago photos?

Send my photos to gallery.

Hello Shashikanta,

Welcome to the Google Photos Support Community.

Could you please elaborate the issue or your query for me to assist you better? Are you referring to photos backed up to Google Photos? If yes, were the backed up then, and you're unable to find them now?

It can be possible that the photos weren't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon  (which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.

Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.

In case, you are uploading a large amount of data (photos/videos), please know that it might take 24-48 hours for the photos and videos to sync across all devices. Please ensure to have 'Backup & sync' enabled on the Google Photos settings while you're backing up your photos and videos. To check is the content is backed up, login in to photos.google.com to checked for your backed up photos and videos.

However, if you're sure they were backed up, I recommend you looking for your video here:
If a photo/s is deleted from Google Photos, it would go to Trash/Bin for the next 60 days (after deletion). Unfortunately, if the photos aren't found in Trash or deleted from Trash, I'm afraid, you might not find them else where to recover them because Trash is the last resort to retrieve your lost/deleted photos.

Keep me posted.

Regards,
Amanda

Maybe the photos weren't uploaded successfully at the first place to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup.

Best,
Amanda

Question: How to recover permanently delete pic

How to recover permanently delete pic

Deleted Photos are stored in Trash for up to 60 days, if you delete Photos again from trash, that's two times deletion.

Unfortunately, once Photos are deleted from trash there is no way to retrieve them back :(

Answer:

Try to scan your storage drive or card with recuva. Maybe if not overwritten you can recover them back, gl ;)

It's insane to me that Google designs one sharing/security interface for Drive, then basically designs the same interface for Photos with drastically reduced security.  For more info, read this article, https://www.alexkras.com/do-not-share-your-google-photos/ .

Answer:

Google Photos assumes that you share with trusted people who don't re-share unless by asking your permission. The links are like on Picasaweb before: viewable to everyone who received the link.
Or simply don't share at all.
But sharing is not the same as making an album "public": that means searchable on Google and that is not the case unless caused by bad friends who publish your pictures on public sites.

Question: My photos are saved on my old google account.I accidentaly deleted my photos when i did factory rese. How do i get all my photos i deleted

Hi Moez,

Welcome to the Google Photos Product Help Forum.

We are mostly user volunteers here, and have no access to accounts, etc.

This seems to be the most comprehensive source of data on recovery of Gmail addresses.

Excerpt:
Lost Password Recovery. The recover process can be started in either of two ways:
Try all possible recovery emails and recovery phones which you have access to.  If possible, log into the recovery site from an IP address you have used previously.

Another thought, is that you MAY have saved your Google account password in the password management facility of a browser you don't use very often (Firefox, IE, Edge, Chrome...).  If you think this is a possibility you might search ~password management~ with the name of the specific browser.

You might find more expertise on recovering accounts in the Gmail support forum.

Best regards, Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user)

Question: How do i backup my photos

Recover photo which are delete today by the help of assistant

Hello Rafiq,

Welcome to the Google Photos Support Community.

Could you please elaborate the issue or your query for me to assist you better? Are you referring to backing upyour photos/videos from your Android device to Google Photos? If yes, to Backup your photos/video, before you start, make sure you're signed in.
  1. Open the Google Photos app .
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. At the top, tap Menu .
  4. Select Settings   Back up & sync.
  5. Tap "Back up & sync" on or off.
If you see a message asking to allow the app to access your photos:
  1. Open the iOS settings app  tap Privacy  Photos.
  2. Turn on Google Photos.
Things to keep in mind about this setting:
  • Changing backup settings will affect all apps that use Back up & sync, such as Google Drive.
  • If you have Back up & sync on, deleting the Google Photos app from your device will not turn it off. To turn off Back up & sync, follow the instructions above.
If you've deleted them from Google Photos and want to restore them, please know that photos/videos deleted from the Google Photos library, goes to the Trash for the next 60 days. So, in case, you deleted it by mistake you can always restore it from Trash folder within those 60 days (post deletion). But, if you don't find it in Trash, probably it must have been deleted more that 60 days ago. Unfortunately, restoring your lost/deleted photos and videos from Trash is the last resort.

Here's a useful help article to know about backing up photos and videos to Google Photos.
    If no, keep me posted.

    Regards,
    Amanda
