I'm sorry but the Movie Maker doesn't have hardly any controls to be to edit the actual photos in your video. I do live in hope that they'll add features like that (I'm hoping that they add an automatic zoom in or out)

I don't want to edit my photos in the movie, I want the movie feature to stop editing my photos for me. They shouldn't think they know what I want it to look like, and simply put the full photo into the movie. If I wanted it cropped, I would crop it myself and then add it. It is too bad that they think they are better at creating and choosing what our photos look like. My son caught a 30 in lake trout, that gets cut off in the picture, not what I am after. I can try to find another program to do what I want, but I do think that the movie creation feature is user friendly and convenient, but not if it crops photos. Hopefully they will do something about it, and I have left feedback in Google Photos already. Thanks for your honest response, I appreciate it.

I'm completely on your side with this, the Movie Maker is focused on the type of person that won't want to make any adjustments to the videos as very few people will.

I want to tweak every aspect of my videos and I tend to use applications like iMovie to make my videos because of this. That being said all my photos and videos are stored in Google Photos so I prey Google get their act together.

I see this question asked in different ways but no definitive answer. Where's the metadata in Photos (inc. date taken and location) when a photo is downloaded?

When downloading to my Android phone, the date on the downloaded photo only shows when it was downloaded and location is entirely missing. Is there any way to get the metadata in Photos downloaded along with the picture?

A bigger question is why does Google think you wouldn't want the original metadata? As it is there's no way to tell when a picture was taken after it's been downloaded.

Hi Ray, metadata is part of the photo file and does not get changed or deleted by Google Photos. The downloaded photo should be exactly the same as the photo originally updated to Google Photos but will not contain any changes made in Google Photos as these are kept in a separate file so that the original is intact.

The date you see on the Android may be the date it was downloaded, but this may be temporary as it could be just the placeholder date you see, not any change in the actual photo, just it's presentation. And this behaviour is usually caused by incomplete metadata in the original photo, noting that images do not necessarily contain any metadata at all.

So in my experience if you have a camera photo with location uploaded to Google Photos then downloaded to Android there should be no difference in the date or the location.

Here is an example. In the first attachment is the "Info" (as Photos calls it) that shows a creation date of July 3 in Bloomington, Il. The second attachment has the "Details" for the same photo which I downloaded to my Android's gallery, showing only the date of the download.

If I copy the gallery photo(s) to my laptop, I assume I won't be able to sort or see when the photo was taken. I also assume I lose the date created and other metadata if I download directly to a laptop. (Can't verify now since my laptop hard drive died and I don't have a replacement yet.

So, unless I'm mistaken, it appears the only place I can find a photos original metadata is in Photos, which seems wrong.

There is absolutely nothing wrong in the information you are seeing. Google Photos isn't a metadata viewer.

The "info" gives the correct Date Taken, the correct place it is stored on your device, the correct device the photo was taken on, and an ESTIMATED location which Google Photos has estimated as the place the photo was taken, this location DOES NOT form part of the Photo metadata and will not be seen on your laptop. If your laptop is a windows machine you will see the Date Taken in Windows Explorer if you select the column to display.

Apologies for the Capitals, I am not shouting, just trying to emphasise the items under discussion.

The second attachment means nothing when trying to decide what is in the Metadata, whatever app it is, is displaying those chosen values from the photo. Not because they are the only ones present but because that's all it is setup to see.

An example of the full Metadata is below, where this is the first of two pages in a photo from my mobile phone.

Drag the Exif folder to your PC or USB drive, no install necessary, just double click ExifToolGUI.exe and use the navigation tree to locate your photo. I am not an expert, I just use it to see the info in the right hand panel.

You can also install the latest copy of Picasa desktop, which no longer works with web albums or email, but the basic functionality is very good for viewing photo info and using the export tool to create jpgs from png and inserting a valid Date Taken field

If you are trying to recover deleted videos and you have back up & sync on, photos and videos you delete will stay in your trash for 60 days.

On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .

Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
- In your phone
- Into the "Photos" section of the app.
- Into any albums it was in.

If you have deleted the photos from the Trash, then I'm sorry but you can't retrieve them. This is why you receive a warning when you delete from the Trash. Deleting from the Trash is permanent.

Lastly, you could try an Android Data Recovery app that might be able to restore the files to from your phone. But I can't promise that it will work as they are all 3rd party apps.

Not sure how much I can help you as the Viber app will download to a location which might be protected from view. This isn't really a Google Photos issue.

You will need to ensure that it is turned back on. Once this is on, you will need to give it time to go through all of your photos again. This can be from a couple of days up to a week depending on how many photos you have in Google Photos.

My suggestion would be to make sure that you have updated versions of the browsers, and to clear the cache for both of them.

I would also recommend that you revoke Colorland's access from your Google Photos account and then try to connect it again:

On the left navigation panel, select Security.
On the Third-party apps with account access panel, select Manage third-party access.
Select the site or app you want to remove.

I had the automatic synchronization of the photos on myhuawey mate 10 pro with Google photo and google drive. My Google was full and Icouldn't receive email so I deleted a lot of photos thinking that I was onlycreating free space on my account.

Some days later I found out that all the pictures I deletedfrom Google photo were no more on my mobile phone gallery.

Trying to fix the problem I searched on the Google communitysomething helpful but I can't solve the new problem.

I really need to have my photos back since a lot of them arenecessary for my job and it's now a problem working without. I also need torecover photos of my last summer, it has been a really happy period and now meand my girlfriend are really sad about this loss of photos.

My photos use to be saved with this kind of name"IMG_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.jpg" in the folder "camera" into DCIMfolder of the internal memory of the phone.

I need to recover photos from the 01/07/2019 to 15/10/2019.

Last week I contacted the assistance throught a tool of google and I had a chat with a person from google assistance. He/she told me he/she would have activate the recovery tool to recover as much as possible and that into 48h I could see my photos on my google drive. 4 days have passed and I can't find any of my photos on google drive or in google photo.

I really need my photos, for my work and because many of them are photos with my girlfriend.

Hoping you can help me with this big loss of photos, I thank you in advance.

SIX DAYS into my monthly allowance!! All of the other threads about this are closed, and it's never been recognised as a real bug and resolved. Can Google please give me 30 AUD to help me over until next month? This is such a terrible bug. It happened in a single day! I know it would have been better if I turned off cellular data completely in iOS settings rather than Google Photos settings, but I just wanted to quickly look back at some old photos to show someone for just a minute! I did not know leaving the setting on for a couple of days would do this!
