My phone (A Moto G4 Play, an Android version 7.1.1) often gets these random folders on it that appear when I open my Google Photos app on it. There's one that's called 'files' with one blank/glitched photos, and sometimes there's anywhere from 15-200 files numbered in order (1, 2, 3, etc.) that appear all at once, with around 30-80 glitched photos inside. I can't delete the folders, and the only way to get rid of them is to delete all the empty photos inside. Sometimes there are even folders full of advertisement videos and photos named something like GraphicAssets. What do I do?

Answer:

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Photos Help Community.

I certainly understand your concern regarding the Google Photos app. Could you please confirm, if you see this folder on the web version of the Google Photos?

In the meantime, please try these steps on your device to see if they help:
  1. Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
  2. Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
  3. Clear App data and cache:
    • Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
    • Touch Apps.
    • Select Google Photos in the list.
    • Touch Clear data and cache
  4. Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
    • Visit the Google Play Store.
    • Open Google Photos.
    • Touch on Update.
  5. Restart your device.
Keep me posted.

Best,
Nadia

Answer:

Hi there,

Thanks for writing back.

As you're unable to see this folder on the web version, please make sure your backup is complete and then uninstall and re-install the Google Photos app on your device.

If possible, try checking your account from another device to see if that helps.

Keep me posted.

Nadia

Answer:

Tried that mutliple times. Nothing. But, I think I figured something out: It's other files and photos on my phone that appear. Like pictures and videos from apps and games I think. As in my photos app isn't just receiving and backing up photos from downloads, screenshots, the camera, and such, but also from app and game folders like ads and cut scenes.

Answer:

Having exact same issue on Google pixel XL, would love any advice if available, very annoying, even when deleted they show up again within minutes sometimes, it's showing all the image files from inside your phone storage. Like the Google pixel XL has an app named "files" and it shows all the files as a file explorer would on a PC, it is showing all the image files from in there, very strange because I didn't have this issue for a very long time, like over a year after I got this phone, I love this phone, but randomly maybe after an update this happened and I can't get it to go away

Answer:

My Note 8 is doing the same thing..The Verizon rep told me to delete my gmail account...She said it's a Google photos app problem ..I just want it to go away !! Right now I have over 300 things in my Google Photos App that need to be  deleted!...I'm so annoyed ...I want to upgrade to the Note 9 but I'm afraid it will happen again!!

Answer:

So messed up. Like they really expect us to delete our whole account, nah I spent some serious time getting my settings right and all that to have to do anything serious to fix this issue, seems like a simple fix they could address in update and I hope they do.... Very frustrating.

Answer:

Well I haven't considered that yet, but now I have, it's been a while for me, it's hard with all the different Android options, but I may just do that honestly

Answer:

Google photos keeps popping up on my phone too.  This is eighteen months after
the first post in this thread!  So I should delete my account and start all over again in organizing my folders , (worst folder system ever), and hope that it works, even though it clearly hasn't worked for anyone in this thread.   It just popped up again!!!!!!

Is it possible to prevent the dialog box asking you to confirm you want to delete a photo from the device?  It means it takes a lot longer when tidying up photos.  Since it is so easy to restore the photo if deleted accidentally it would be very useful not to have to confirm each deletion.

Answer:

Ashley,

There is currently no way to disable the confirmation dialog box when deleting pictures from Google Photos. I doubt there will ever be an option to disable that confirmation. (Take a quick scan through the forums and look at how many people are asking for help recovering pictures they accidentally deleted. Imagine how many more there would be if there wasn't even a confirmation popup box...)

~ Greg

Answer:

Greg,

Suspected that might be the case, thanks for confirming!

Agree with your point but I think if it was an option in the settings so you got the confirmation by default but had the ability to disable it it would be useful.

Thanks again,

Ashley

Answer:

The confirmation is really annoying, I would also like to get rid of it.

I do not see people asking to recover their pictures they accidentally deleted as a reason against removing the confirmation, as all deleted pictures are saved in the trash for 60 days anyway.

Answer:

I'd love a setting or even a special key combo to bypass this. I typically take multiple shots just in case--cleaning up a weekend's worth can be a pain, let alone a 2 week vacation...

Answer:

Agreed. Google photos should Absolutely have an option to disable the delete confirmation, It needs to be the users choice to enable or disable that option!  (When you don't want to mass delete, it becomes annoying when you need to confirm going through every photo.  Or when you delete them from your device, yet, GP does not.)
It's just ridiculous to confirm to delete, EVERY SINGLE PIC.
And Well, if someone does delete a photo by accident, they can simply retrieve it from their trash or enable the delete confirmation!

Answer:

Agree! Please add such a functionality! The deleted photos can be placed in Trash folder first right? Isn't it easy....

Strongly advocate this option, it's wasting a lot of my time now since clicking a photo is so easy but deleting it takes fivefold time...

In the past I did not realize that I needed to select 'add photos to my library' to keep track of albums that have been shared with me. I thought that was automatic. Now that I know, I want to go back to add albums that have been shared with me previously. Since the albums were shared in-app, I don't have emails with links that I can go back to. Is there anywhere that I can see all the albums that I have been invited to, whether I've looked at the albums or not? Please help!

Answer:

Hi Lacey,

Shared albums are here: https://photos.google.com/sharing
Unfortunately, you won't find albums that you didn't add.

I don't know what you mean by "in-app" - I suppose that you have already checked the app to see if anything is there.

Answer:

By 'in-app' I mean that I receive notifications on my phone (android) that come from the app, not by text message or email. On my phone I can swipe the notifications to hide them, but I never thought those little notifications would be my only chance to see an album I was invited to.

It's not a good system, I'm sure some of those notification are accidentally swiped all the time. I'm bummed that I've missed out on seeing photos that friends meant to share with me.

Answer:

Thanks for explaining further what happened. I guess you could ask your friends to reshare the albums that you may have missed.

You can send Feedback to the Google Photos team: https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6156065?hl=en

From searching, this seems to be a known issue. I'd like to know how to fix it. I am trying to back up around 1700 photos/videos on my daughter's phone. After over 24 hours, it is stuck at around 330 photos (the number keeps changing). It also says she has almost reached her storage limit of 15gb even though I selected "high resolution" which is supposed to have unlimited storage...? I would like to delete the photos off of her phone that WERE backed up but I can't go through 1700 pictures to find out what 330 are still pending. So basically, we're stuck because it's stuck!  I took screenshots, attached. Most of the time has been using Wifi. PLEASE HELP - so many people are having this issue and it really makes this product useless unless there's a simple fix.

Answer:

Hello Carrie,

This is a very annoying problem with iOS and the only way appears to be to keep the app open while the backup is completed. As you have WiFi I would disable the option to use cellular until the backup is complete.

There is also an issue if you are using iCloud as there is a complex interaction with Google Photos when backing up large numbers of photos.

From the screenshot you don't look like you have a problem with Google storage because it is saying you have 13.68 left which means you are only using 1.32GB  It could be the device storage, which if iCloud is enabled is a normal effect of the initial backup.

So all I can advise at the moment is to disable the cellular upload option and keep the app open to see how things go,

Regards,
Peter

Answer:

It IS very annoying. And unfortunately your solution won't help. We had cellular turned off and the app was open the first 15+ hours using our Wifi, but then my daughter had to go to school... that 's when I switched on cellular data. The app has been open in the background since Sunday and uses Wifi the whole time she is at home. I can't have her phone sit here at my house in Wifi for an entire week. So what is another solution? We do have an iCloud plan but I was hoping to cancel that IF GOOGLE PHOTOS WORKED.  Is there at LEAST a way of knowing what photos I can now delete from her phone and which ones are stuck? I can't go through one by one, so I can't delete any from her phone until I know this - or until the backup completes.
Thank you for your quick response.

PS - Since you admit this is annoying, can you recommend an app that is also free and WORKS?!

Answer:

As soon as the app goes into the background it will stop backing up. Is it possible to leave it open and plugged in overnight until the backup completes. I don't know of any free alternatives.

Answer:

That's what we did the first night - left it plugged in to back up. It went from around 400 down to 330. In about 12 hours. And no movement since. So are you saying we need to have our phone plugged in and backing up for like a week straight without using the phone?! And must be now start over? I don't even know how to stop it from doing what it's doing - there is no stop or cancel option.

Still wondering how I know what I can delete and what I can't.

Answer:

No way of knowing what you can delete until the Backup is complete. As far as recently deleted is concerned it should be safe to delete whatever is in there as they should have beed deleted before Google Photos started backing up.

Answer:

We have IOS 13.

So should I kill the app and start completely over? There are over 1000 photos in her Google Photos when I look on my computer.

Answer:

It won't do any harm, it might be worth doing.  It might even be worth reinstalling with Backup disabled, use free up space and then check online is still OK then delete Recently deleted. Then turn on Backup again.

Question: How can i transfer all my google photos and google drive off samsung galaxy grand prime toMoto6 play

I tried downloading each photo to my new email

Hi Kimberly,

>>> How can i transfer all my google photos and google drive off samsung galaxy grand prime toMoto6 play

By far the easiest thing to do is to just use the same email account. In general, you keep the same email account ~forever~ because it also has your contacts, etc.

However, IF you have a compelling reason to change email accounts, you can create and share Albums from the old account to the new account OR use a "Shared Library" to transfer the images.   This will make the images visible on your new phone (downloading the images is a separate issue and as uncommon as changing email addresses when you change phones). Whatever you do, don't be in a rush to delete the images in the old account (or the complete old account).

Never rely on a single tool or method to store irreplaceable images.

Question: My videos from june 10th were not backed up even though my auto sync was on. Plesse help my recover these priceless videos have vanished

Regain videos

Hi Cameron,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.

Just to make sure that I have a clear understanding of your issue, could you please confirm if the video deleted from your device or the Google Photos? Are you trying to restore them?

Incase if you've deleted the video from your phone, it looks like the video didn't backed up properly to your Google Photos account. Could you please check if you're able to see the video on web (photos.google.com)? If not, please check for the following things:

1. Can you see them via Picasa?
2. Are they in the trash?
3. Check the Assistant for the status of your backups.
4. Ensure you are logged in to the correct Google account.

If they are still missing, then unfortunately there isn't a way to retrieve them. Going forward, I'd suggest deleting the photos and the videos using the Google Photos Free up Space option to avoid any data loss as it is the best way to remove a backed-up video/image from your phone, leaving it in the cloud, and this will only delete the files which are backed up completely on Google Photos. To do so, please follow the steps from "Free up space on your phone" help center article.

Also, try checking your backup status on your phone and check if you're able to see the photos and videos on web (photos.google.com) before you delete them on your phone:
  1. Open the Google Photos app on your mobile device .
  2. At the top left, touch the menu icon  > Assistant.
  3. Read the first card. If it says:
    • "Waiting for connection" or "Waiting for Wi-Fi": You need to either change your settings or connect to a Wi-Fi or mobile network. Touch the card to change your settings.
    • "Back up & sync is off": Touch "TURN ON" on the card to back up your device's photos and videos, including ones you capture in the future.
    • "A photo or video was skipped": A photo or video on your mobile device doesn't meet our upload requirements:
      • Photos can't exceed 75MB or 100 megapixels
      • Videos can't exceed 10GB
    • "Backing up photos" or "Backup complete": This means your photos and videos should be saved.
Just a heads up: Photos and videos that aren't backed up will have this cloud icon  or circular-arrow icon based on the version of Google Photos App on your phone.

If you're still facing the issue, try the steps from this "My photos aren't being backed uphelp center article.

Incase if the video is backed to Google Photos and if you've deleted it accidentally from the Google Photos then it will be deleted from your phone also.

If you have back up & sync on, photos and videos you delete will stay in your trash for 60 days. You can recover deleted items by following the below steps:
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  2. At the top left, tap Menu , then Trash.
  3. Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
  4. At the top right, tap Restore . That photo or video will be restored to your Google Photos library and added back into any albums it was in.
Incase, if you're unable to restore from the Google Photos, the following things could be the reasons:
  1. Photos and Videos moved to trash more than 60 days ago.
  2. Photos and Videos moved to trash, then emptied your trash.
  3. Photos and Videos moved to trash permanently deleted from your trash.
Also, I'd recommend you look for your photos here, signing in with all your Google accounts if you have more than one:
Check out this handy Help Center article for more information on how to "See if you can restore deleted photos & videos".

I am downloading my google drive photos which have been accumulated over the last few years and want to import them in to iphotos but i don't see the geo tag on the photos after they have been downloaded from google photos.

Is there a way to download the photo and keep the geo tag so it can be used in other applications?

Answer:

Hi Urfan,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Photos Help Community.

Please know that, manually added locations won't be synced with photos uploaded to Google Photos. However, your photo may have a location if:
  • Your camera's GPS saves your location.
  • Google Photos might estimate a location using information such as your Google Location History (if turned on), which is stored in your Google Account. Check your Google Location History. You can edit or remove a location that was estimated by Google Photos.
  • You added a location. These photos when download will still have the location in the metadata.
So, there isn't a way to download photos (with manually added location) and keep the Geo tag.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Best,
Nadia

Answer:

The photos in question have the geo tag from the phone when the photo was taken but when I download the photo it doesn't have the geo tag in the pic anymore and can't be used when imported into iphotos.

Answer:

Hi Urfan,

Thanks for posting back.

As the photos had the location from your device, could you please click and check, if the 'i' icon on the photos displays the respective location on Google Photos? If so, please try downloading the photos from another device to see if that helps.

Answer:

I do see the location on the photos.google.com when i click on the 'i'.

But when i downloaded this photo and imported in to icloud, i lost the location.

Answer:

Hi Urfan,

Thanks for the screenshot.

I've replicated the issue and see that the photos with Geo tags upload just fine on iCloud web with the location details right above each photo in the photo library. Please check for the location on your iOs device for the photos you're referring to. Also, I'd suggest you get in touch with iCloud support for further assistance.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Best,
Nadia

Answer:

Can you share how you did this? When you download the photo from google photos, and check the properties of the file before even importing in to another application can you see the location info? I dont see this in the file which tells me that it is being stripped off when it is downloaded from google photos in the first place..

Answer:

Hi Urfan.

Thanks for writing back.

That's right. I am able to see the photo's location on the desktop after downloading it from Google Photos and on iCloud. However, I see you're unable to see location after downloading photos from Google Photos.

Could you please help us with the screenshot of properties of the photo you shared earlier? Ensure you don't include any of your personal and/or account information in the screenshots that you share.

Meanwhile, I am working on this issue with my team and will get back to you with an update.

I've just found out the Picassaweb has closed, it says that all my photos should now be in Google Photos but they're not, they've all been deteled, how can this happen, this is supposed to be a secure site! How can I get them back? They have not been archived, how can I speak to customer service and get this sorted out?

Answer:

There is no customer service at Google and it is rather strange that you missed the clear announces about its closing in 2016. So I must assume that you did not look for years.
You have used some Google account in Picasa to get your stuff uploaded to Picasaweb in the years before 2016 and you need to log-in with that account to its archive at https://get.google.com/albumarchive
Most likely that old account will be different from your actual account your are using on mobile now.
That's all what can be said about.

Hi I have used Mi note 4 previously later i have changed Mi A1 the common point is i have used same gmail account for both mobiles whenever i change gmail password my photos are appearing in note 4 could you please help me how can photos shouldnt be appears in my previous mobile -

Answer:

Hi Priya,

The most compete method would be to delete your Google account from the other phone.

On your phone's setting app, go to accounts and select the Google account you wish to delete select that account, and select the option to remove account.

This will remove the account and any associated data from that device.

If you wish to still receive sync data from that Google account to the phone but only disable Google photos open Google photos go to Left menu go to settings go to backup and sync and turn off backup and sync for that specific account. You may then need to delete any cached data from that Google photos account on the other phone. To do that, long press on the Google photos app icon select the I info icon select storage select clear cache. If that doesn't remove the photos from that specific account, follow the same steps as above but select remove storage. If you have a second Google account on that phone and still wish to sync photos for that when you launch photos for the first time it may need to resync the data from that other.

Let us know if that helps

I have timing issue with google photos.
If you upload any photos that taken between 12:00 a.m. to 3:59 a.m. Google display that photos in previous date.

Ex: I'm uploading 3 photos,
Photo-1 taken on 2nd November 12:05 A.M.
Photo-2 taken on 2nd November 03:59 A.M.
Photo-3 taken on 2nd November 04:01 A.M.

In this case Google shows photos 1 & 2 on date 1st November and shows photo 3 on date 2nd November.

In short Google Photos Change their day at 4 A.M. I want to change day at 12 A.M.

How can I solve this problem?

I tried to log into Google Photos on my laptop using my Yahoo email, but unsuccessfully. I tried to edit yahoo email in G Photos account and replace it with gmail, but it's not allowing me, saying that this email address is used in another google account. I am confused with all google accounts, I wasn't aware I had one or I get one automatically when I create gmail or G Photos account.
1. Can I amend my yahoo email in G Photos account to gmail?
2. Can I merge my both google accounts (one was created when I created my gmail, another was created when I created my G Photos account using yahoo email address)
3. Can I close my G Photos account (I only opened iGt few days ago and it backuped photos from my iPhone, didnt do anything else with it) so I can open an new G Photos account using my gmail so I can access photos on laptop

Answer:

Hi Jonas, there is nothing to stop you logging in to Google Photos with your Gmail account.

If you tap the 3 bar menu option:> Yahoo address at the bottom:> If the Gmail account is on the iPhone you will see it as a choice to select. First select Manage your Account and Remove the Yahoo address from this device.

If the Gmail account is not on the iPhone select:> Use another account:> then follow the prompts.

When you have switched to the Gmail account turn on Backup and sync to upload your photos and you should be good to use your Gmail on the laptop.

If there is any problem with the prompts you see please get back to me,

Peter

Answer:

Go to trash bin. I just deleted them from Google but now you say nothing is in trash. I just want my photos to stay on my phone not on your app. I don't want Google to have my photos and never gave permission to steal them from my phone

Answer:

@Brenda
You have wrong ideas.
If you are using the Google Photos app and set for safely storing your pictures at Google (backup), the pictures are not taken away from your phone - only copied to Google and they are private there.
But if you see the advice to free-up space on your phone for having space for new shoots, and you agree with that - then Google will erase them because they already are safe at Google.
That's all
If you need some picture back on your phone for whatever reason, you can select that image and choose "Save on device".
If you don't want this all, maybe you should switch-off the app or only use it for viewing and and not backupping anymore. Don't cry then when you loose pictures because they are not saved at Google.

Answer:

Hi Brenda,

You're absolutely right, and seem very knowledgeable about this situation. My question to you is, What if that option isn't given to you? Because I've tried also and there is no way to do that. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Answer:

I agree I have had my pjotos and screenshots just stolen yesterday and today from google I need to have a Lawyer because I have unique photos I take of clouds and Google has taken them and the rotates and the screenshots and originals. So yes they steal I know I had my phone uploading for 2 days and in my activities it shows otherwise and its been off and not taking my photos that I have been taking in actitivities.

Answer:

They take dates and turn them around and the details are all wrong. How to report this and none of the security app that has any activities correct they on my device are blurry photos and missing dates and times I took photos last night and it doesn't show so now they are trying to get it all together. My device was uploading for over 24 hours it started uploading and stopped last night and it doesn't show it. My screenshots and files made are missing. I made several on my phone and I have shared with myself on the account and it doesn't show it on either account. So be leary of GOOGLE Photos.

Answer:

Their doing too much in their trusted name that I never trusted. I want them off of my devices. They not to be trusted. They keep their hands on my account and that mic app I don't like is activated and I don't like listening devices of any kind. It comes on and I've never applied to that. I have art that are clouds with people in them for decades I've had them one thing if I no longer have the same device yet I know my password they've locked me out. Then these incidents happen with my photos they blame Facebook. I send photos there never uploaded my gallery. I should nothing has ever happened there with my photos for 12years I should try that. I will get a personal drive for my photos. I go to sleep and my last photo I took has been moved and placed somewhere else then I see it in collages don't don't do not touch my stuff. Nothing noda.

Answer:

Google stole everything from me. They are thieves. They will not help me they will not give back. Every picture every video. My mother who has passed away. Google go straight to hell where you belong.

Question: Can you group all the photos together?

I'm at a loss.

Hi

I'm not sure what you mean by group all the photos together.

If you would like to group certain photos together, you can use albums to make your own collections.

In short :
  • Touch and hold a photo, and then select the photos you want in your new album.
  • At the top, tap Add.
  • Select Album.
  • Optional: Add a title to your new album.
  • Tap Done Done.

You can read the finer points of creating and sharing albums here : https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6128849?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&oco=1

Additionally, Google uses AI to automatically group images by people, places and things. Simply open Google Photos, select the search field in the upper menu area, and select a person, place or thing from the drop down suggestions, or search for a specific person, place or thing.

Cheers,

Joe

I uploaded photos to Drive then created an album from a selection of them. All is well.
I then replaced a number of the original photos with edited versions, filenames are the same as the originals
How can I make the Album "reload" or "rescan" the images to display the new ones without either deleting the whole album and starting again (losing sharing options and comments) or trying to remember which individual pictures have changed, deleting them then re-adding the replacements. again, losing any comments.
Thanks

Answer:

Hi Dave, it isn't possible to rescan the photos to update the Google Photos copy. The copy you have in the album is a backup which remains as is until you delete it. Sorry, Peter

Answer:

Hi Peter, Thanks for the reply and at least confirmation that I haven't just missed something obvious!

I've just tried deleting a test picture from the album and re-adding it, but I've noticed that even the picture under the (timeline) "Photos" tab is the original one - can I get this one to update?

Thanks,

Answer:

Hi Dave, Once you add a Drive photo to an Album a copy is created in your library and shows on the timeline.

If you are syncing the photo from your PC you could remove it from the PC folder which would delete through to the Google Photos timeline. After confirming it is removed from the timeline re-add to the PC folder and select it again from the timeline and add to the Album.

If you manually upload to Drive then delete the Drive copy and re-upload the edited photo to Drive and add to the Album

Answer:

Hi Peter; I manually upload. Currently I just re-copy (and therefore overwriting) the updated files. To confirm: Are you saying I just need to delete the one in Drive first? ... even though the end result is the same? - a modified file with the same name in the same place? Cheers

Hi Tracy Kontos,

You literally can't change the order unless you drag every photo into the position you want them into.

I suggest leaving a feature request directly for the development team by following these steps:
  1. Open the Google Photos app on a mobile device or go to photos.google.com using a computer .

I uploaded almost 1k scanned photos from 4 family albums into google photos to put cations/titles on them. why did google photos reorganize those photos randomly so that they are no longer in chronological order? Can I do something to prevent this or correct the problem?

Answer:

Hi Michael Caldwell,

It sounds like the time stamps on your photos don't match the actual date they were taken.

You can change the date and time stamps for photos and videos using a computer. When you change the date and time of your photo, the edited date and time will appear in Google Photos. But if you share it to other apps or download it, it may show the original date and time saved by your camera.
  1. On your computer, go to photos.google.com.
  2. Place your cursor over a photo or video. To select the items that you want to update, click Select Select.
  3. At the top-right, click More More.
  4. Click Edit date & time. If you selected more than one item, you'll see two options.
    • To specify a date and time for the first item and automatically adjust the dates and times for the other items relative to that, click Shift dates & times.
    • To set the same date and time for all the items you selected, click Set one date & time.
  5. Follow the instructions to finish.
I hope this helps, I appreciate it's going to be a lot of work.

Answer:

That's hopeless unless you have less then 100 pictures and not thousands like me.

Basically Google Photos is totally unsuitable because it needs correct dates to get the right chronologic order - even if this are fake dates. But if you set all to the same fakedate, they can't be re-sorted.

But it is unclear if you the scanned originals on your computer or on iPhone or iPad only.

If on computer, is that a modern Windows computer or a Mac.

In the latter case, I can't help you.

But if on Windows, I know the right approach.

Besides: captions typed on Google Photos are worthless because they get lost when people download to their own computer. So you need decent desktop software to type such captions which are really stored in the metadataheader of the files themselves - then these timeconsuming texts will survive everything.

Question: How to not get Terrible pictures

How to do closeup on small things without blur?

Hi Shannon

First, make sure you phone's camera lens is clean. You can gently wipe it with a soft cloth to remove any smuges that might be causing a blurry image.

It depends on the model of your phone.  Most phones have a minimum distance a subject needs to be from the phone for a clear image.  Unlike point and shoot cameras, phone cameras typically don't have a macro mode, but it does vary, so you may need to expriment.

One thing you can try is telling the phone's camera where the focal point should be.  For example, if you want to take a close up image of a flower, hold the phone's camera lens about 6-8 inches from the subject. Then tap on the screen where you want the focus point to be on that flower.  You should see the image adjust such that the flower is clearer, and the distant background is more out of focus.

Experiment with choosing the focal point by tapping on the screen once to select the focal point. You may find you need to get closer or a little further away depending on your phone / camera / software.

Best,

Joe

I have about one year worth of photos on my Samsung S8 (Android) phone and am short of space...

Before taking the obvious step of purging cloud backed up media from '\\S8\\Phone\\DCIM\\'(Camera) using Google Photos notification suggestion I decided to compare photos backed-up to google against those on the phone. I discovered a few unexpected results:

1. Only the first shot of a burst series is backed up (i.e. <filename>_001.jpg)
2. Panoramic photos are not backed up (suffix '-PANO.jpg')

In addition, the time-stamps on the files (modified) differ (Date taken date/timestamp looks fine)

Is there a way to ensure everything is backed up?

A friend created a shared album and invited about 10 users. All those users got the invite in their emails, they clicked the "View Album" button, which showed them the album in the Google Photos app, and then they could click the "Join" button to join the shared album to post photos.

However, for one user, the owner of the shared album tried inviting them, and right after sending the invite, the user shows up in the list with "Invited" next to them and "Sent via Google Photos" below their name. But the user isn't getting the invitation email anymore, and after a couple mins when I go and check the list of users in the album, that user is removed.

The owner had invited the user initially, and the user did get the invitation emails once. But even clicking "View Album" on those emails says "Link expired" or something like that. Whereas the link is clearly active (tried sending just the link through WhatsApp also, but that user sees the same thing)

Answer:

I would check to make sure that they weren't accidentally blocked. And if they happen to be in there, remove that particular person:
  1. See the Google Accounts you've blocked at https://myaccount.google.com/blocklist.
  2. Next to the account you want to unblock, click Remove Close
I would then try re-sending the invitation.

Let us know if that works.

Answer:

I observe these symptoms after using "Remove Invite" on a user: the user cannot be re-invited after uninviting.

The invited account is NOT on the album owner's block list. I can send an invitation (it provides a confirmation toast message) but the invited account never receives the confirmation email, and refreshing the album page reverts it to "forget" my newly invited user.

Question: cannot increase the space (no change) when i del the photo

del the photo

Hi Yeung,

To free up space on your Android device:
  1. Sign in to your Google Account if needed.
  2. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  3. Tap Menu and then Free up space
  4. You'll see how many items will be removed. To delete all the items from your phone, tap Free up.

If images are not being deleted from the phone after using Free Up Space option, then Google Photos doesn't yet consider the remaining locally stored images to be backed up
Check your Wifi or cell data to make sure you are connected.
Then go to Photos > menu > settings > backup and sync and make sure backup is turned on.
After you have verified that the images are backed up, try running the Free Up Space option again to see if any more images are removed.
