As seen in the attached screenshot, Google Photos has been draining my iphone battery. I've first installed it 2-3 weeks ago, then my battery life shortened for at least 3-5 hours. So I tried deleting and reinstalling the app, but no change. Some days it affects less but sometimes it is crazy.

In an extreme example in the attached image, it drained %52 of my battery life in 6 m and 5 m is in the background.

I have watched every youtube video and read so many articles about Google Photos, yet couldn't find a solution.

It seems you could not yet have understood about the all behavior of Backup and Sync.

You should look at the explanation of the uploading option to Google Photos in a setting page of Backup and Sync. It is saying "Items that are deleted from this computer will not be removed from Google Photos".

The sync by "My Mac" has 4 options as follows. When you delete your photos from Mac, synced photos that saved in the Computers section of Google Drive might be removed and go to the trash bin, depend on your a setting of #3 option. What you saw could be that.

1) Restriction of file types to be synced

2) Image file compression for unlimited storage

3) Asynchronous delete operation

4) Upload to Google Photos

When new photos will appear on your Mac, they will continue to be uploaded automatically to Google Photos via Computers section of Google Drive.

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.

The partner who receives the invitation has the option to add photos to his/her library. That is probably what happened.

He/she can go into the preferences of the shared library and disable that option. Unfortunately there is no "Undo" button to remove the already added photos. When the partner does not want them, it is recommended to delete them from the "Recently added" view https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_.

Have you shared a single photo or a complete album? If it is a complete album, then below are the steps you can follow. You'll prevent everyone from seeing your album. Comments and photos that have been added by other people will be removed.

On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
Tap Albums.
Open an album that you created.
In the top right, select More .
Select Sharing options.
Next to "Share," turn the switch off.

Note: If the person you shared with downloaded or copied photos or videos you shared, deleting your shared link will not delete those downloads or copies.

We are not aware of any Google plans to replace this functionality and there are no Google Photos workarounds. For new photos taken on mobile I have the OneDrive app installed with settings to upload new photos to the OneDrive cloud where they go into the camera roll. I have the camera roll synced to my HD where I manually move them to add to my photo archive.

There is no need to use additional cloud storage, you just need the syncing in conjunction with some manual file management for taking-out the files from the synced folder to prevent paying. And because OneDrive is well integrated with the Windows Explorer, you don't need any additional apps at the PC.

Deleting from OneDrive does not delete from the mobile device.

I have approximately 60 GB of video on my SD card (films), but these folders are NOT selected to backup. Camera was setup to save photos on Internal Storage. But anyway it takes few days to even get my photos from server and I can't backup any photo, just stucking loader.
Un-mounting or removing SD card fix the problem. When I have a lot of videos on Internal storage not on a card - problem persists.
I've tried rebooting, clearing cache, clearing data, changing and formatting SD card. Looks like that Google Photos are going to index content of all my videos and it takes a lot of time

I'm sorry this was missed, possibly because it is such an unusual situation. It does appear to be an issue as other have complained of similar so I will collate these reports with a view to submitting a bug report.

What you (and any others) can do is to submit feedback and include logs so the team can build a picture of affected devices and builds. In your case I would suggest eject the SD card and immediately submit the feedback and hopefully there will be some clues in the logs.

I would also suggest using a title in Capital letters, for example:-

ANDROID APP STUCK PREPARING PHOTOS and copy the text above in the main body of the feedback. You can choose another title and share it with us so we can use the same title in any reports we make.

One question which will be asked is if you take a video or videos with the device and let them Backup do you see any problems?

The manual upload of photos via Chrome used to be able to upload my Sony A99II RAW files. I now have some files in Google Photos and the rest in Google Drive because the Chrome upload appears to have been deprecates, so it is no longer working for my Sony A99II RAW files. It's been well over a year since I first reported this, and still no fix. So 12 months or more have passed, Google Back Up and Sync is loading Sony A99II RAW files to Google Drive and not Google Photos. So my new photos are no longer going into Google Photos, but Google Drive. OK you might think, you can see the jpg's in Drive... but you can't see them in Google Photos. So I have many cameras and the main camera is Sony A99II. I can't load in the images into Google photos, they just consume space on Google Drive, which I happily pay for, but I can't edit them in drive, not even the jpgs that are rendered in Drive. It drives me crazy. I would love to have a unified service for all my photos, will this ever happen?

either use a RAW converter on the computer and upload the exported JPEG's
or convert to DNG using Adobe's DNG converter:

Google said that you can see the files in photos that are in drive but it doesn't work. I already sent a message to the product manager that DNG's were not acceptable. If they support DNG why don't they convert to DNG for photos and copy the RAWS to Drive.

I remember you, but did not read the name of the poster. I also think that there are better ways to deal with RAW's. I mainly shoot JPEG or JPEG+RAW and use the RAW's only when I think it's needed, and then convert to TIFF using Adobe's ACR and after further editing to JPG, which I upload for sharing.

Anyway: there is no solution in Photos. All we and you can do is send feedback to the team. RAW does not seem to be one of the top priorities.

Hi Jan, yes I know it's not your fault. But this is something they could do themselves. They have the technology to do this. In the Google cloud data flow, take raw data and convert to DNG (maybe they don't want to licence Adobe conversion code.) Generate jpg humbnails, store both in Google photos cloud storage. Copy raw to Drive. Problem solved for the consumer. I'm happy to pay for my raw back up storage, which I currently do.

In terms of photography, I take a lot of low light photos, hence the camera. I capture in RAW, and process the JPGs after as they often need white balance adjustment. I have thought of shooting RAW and JPG simultaneously, but sure I won't be happy with the jpg output.

I hope they come up with a work flow that covers all photos, it's been a painful few years for me on a product that was really great.

Check your internet connection (mobile data).
Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
Clear App data:

Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
Touch Apps.
Select Google Photos in the list.
Touch Clear data.

Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:

Visit the Google Play Store.

selecting photos is a function of the social media apps and outside the control of Google Photos. Some allow you to navigate to the Google Photos copies and some only look at what is physically on the phone.

My normal method is to select the photo in Google Photos and use the share option to choose the social media app. Not sure if that is suitable for you, but there is no other method I am familiar with,

You can forget about any face-transfer between Picasa and Google Photos - stupid but . And recently it even became impossible to upload straight from Picasa to Google Photos, so the green button does not work anymore.

GP has its own face-system, merely automatic.

But the facetags in Picasa have there own value to find back people and as long you stay using Picasa for viewing your local collection, everything is okay if you also have an uo-to-date backup on disc.

I can only confirm what Rinus said: the Photos team did not look back. Not only face tags but also other tags (keywords) are ignored by Google Photos.

Not really. Google groups the faces and you just give a name to the group. They do surprisingly well, but of course there are also mistakes. All you can do is (1) remove wrong photos from the result and (2) merge groups when they made 2 groups for one person. The biggest issue is that you cannot tag any person yourself.

It sounds like you have used both accounts on the same phone and it has backed up all the local photos.

The only way to get it back is to first make sure that you only have your own account on your own phone.

Then on both phones in the Google Photos app tap the 3 bar menu option; your email address; Use without an account. Go to photos.google.com in a browser and delete the unwanted photos manually then empty the trash. It may be possible to see them grouped by the upload date at https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ where you can bulk select by clicking on the Added date.

I certainly understand the importance of photos and videos on an account. Please know that, when a photo/s is deleted from Google Photos, it would go to Trash/Bin for the next 60 days. If the photos aren't found in Trash, I'm afraid, you might not find it because Trash is the last resort to retrieve your lost/deleted photos.

If something isn't in your trash, it can't be restored. You won't be able to restore a photo if:

Moved it to trash more than 60 days ago
Moved it to trash, then emptied your trash
Permanently deleted it from your trash.
Permanently deleted it from your device's Gallery app, without being backed up.

I certainly understand the importance of being able to view photos and videos on an account. I'd suggest you ensure that you're signed in to the right account on your device. Also, check for the following things:

Are they in the trash: https://photos.google.com/trash.
If you suddenly lost your videos, they might have a different date. If a photo/video is added from a device with different date and time settings, the timestamp may be wrong. Learn how to change timestamps on photos.

Also, search for a person, place, or thing in the photo:

On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
At the top, type what you want to find, like "dogs", "New York City", or someone you've labeled.

If your search is coming up empty, try:

Search with a different keyword.
Search again in 3—5 days. It can take awhile for photos to be searchable.

If something isn't in your trash, it can't be restored. You won't be able to restore a photo if:

You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago
You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash
You permanently deleted it from your trash
Permanently deleted it from your device's Gallery app, without being backed up.

Hi Philip,

The recommended way to delete photos,

From the main Photos screen which is the first screen when you open Photos

tap the 3 bar menu and select Free up space
- deletes all device copies after checking if they are backed up online at https://photos.google.com/
OR tap a photo to open full screen
- tap the trash icon and Move to trash. Deletes from device and online with 60 days before permanent deletion
OR tap a photo to open full screen
- tap the 3 dot menu and select Delete device copy. Deletes the device copy only

You do not have to worry about syncing photos to your phone. During set up for a new phone no photos are downloaded to the new phone. What happens is that Google Photos downloads a small thumbnail of every photo in the account so you can see which photos you have on Google Photos web. The only way to download the full photo is to select it individually and choose the 3 dot option to Save to device,

i recently got a new phone and downloaded the google photos app, my old photos and videos from my old phone appeared on my new device's google photos app. Next time i checked the app ALL of my old photos and videos were gone, the only photos on the app were the current ones i had in my camera roll on my new phone. Those videos and pictures i worked hard on, from my travels, video edits, and pictures of my old horse who is no longer alive. i did not delete the photos, they are NOT in trash or archive, i have tried different accounts, logging in on my computer, i have tried everything and this is my last resort.

I've posted this same issue multiple times now and put in a ticket with Google One. Provided them with screenshots for timeline purpose but still no resolution. This definitely seems to be a trend amongst this community forum "Got a new phone & photos are missing". How are they going to ignore so many users? If I hear back, I'll let you know. Recently she suggested about sharing the entire library in order to get in touch and easily create new albums with different devices, cameras and photos.

But the problem is: she sent me the invite to access her library, but I didn't get any notifications or emails on any platforms.

Do I have to share my library back to have access to her library? Am I doing something wrong or is this feature facing issues right now?

PS: I read in older posts that it's currently possible to get access to a single library per account. My mom has shared her library with me. Could this be causing the issue?

EDIT: Just found the info that I can share a library with one person at a time. (Source)

But does Google have plans to link more than 1 person at a time per account? I'd send this feedback, but it's probably a shot in the dark. And probably other users already complained about it.
