If you deleted pictures from your phone using the stock gallery app, and those pictures weren't backed up to Google Photos, there is nothing Google can do to recover them. If you used the Google Photos app to delete the pictures, you would have received a warning when trying to delete pictures that were not already saved to the cloud, explaining that those pictures aren't backed up yet. But, if they were backed up, they'd still be visible in the trash bin for 60 days (or until you empty the trash bin).

If you did empty the trash bin, there's nothing that any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you get them back.

To assist you better, could you please let me know what exactly are you referring to when you say "recover deleted photos"? Are you trying to recover the deleted photos from the Google Photos? If yes, I'd like to let you know that if you've deleted the photos which are already backed up in Google Photos, then the photos and videos you delete will stay in your trash for 60 days. To recover them I'd suggest you to follow the below steps:
  • Open the web version of Google Photos.
  • At the top left, tap Menu > Trash.
  • Click on the white circle with a tick mark on the photo or videos you want to recover.
  • At the top right corner you will find a restore option (beside the trash bin icon).
Also, have a look at the help center article to know more about recovering the deleted photos. Also, have a look at the help center article to find the missing photos or videos.

I was able to fix the problem! Not sure why this is happening, but you can try this method: Go to Internal Storage > DCIM > PINT100 > Pins. You'll see the list of images that you have downloaded but cannot open. Try to rename the file. Remove the "?b=t" at the end of the file name. Leave the .jpg. as is and save the file. You should be able to see the image right after. 

I suggest you did this using your PC, if possible. It's tedious and much time consuming to do this on your phone.

I have uploaded photos and stored these in Google drive in various folders. 

Within Google photos, I have also enabled the setting whereby photos stored in Google drive now also appear in Google photos. In addition to this, I have also enabled the setting whereby a separate new 'Google Photos' folder is created within Google drive. 

Now my question:

Since some of my photos/videos were already stored on Google drive before I linked Google photos to Google drive, and Google photos is now synced to Google druve and will show these older photos, will the new 'Google photos' folder within Google drive now show these photos such that they are duplicate copies on Google drive I. E. One copy within the old folder on Google drive plus a new copy stored in the new 'Google photos' folder that has been created on Google drive? 

I would like to know the answer to the above questions and appreciate your comments. In particular, I wish to know whether my Google drive storage quota is being unnecessarily eaten up due to duplicate photo copies. Please note that I upload all photos to Google photos at the original quality/size.

The Google Photos folder created in My Drive is quota free as it contains shortcuts to the copy on Google Photos
 
For info you should not put any of your uploaded photos into this folder as it confuses things, and photos may not also appear in Google Photos

The 2 option of Google-Photos and Google-Drive to sync each other will work  separately and their object file is different.
Each option will not work for the file stored on service of each option.
The photos from Google-Drive showing in library of Google-Photos are never shown in Google Photos folder by the option of Google-Drive. The opposite direction is also the same.

The option of Google-Photos has a role to show the photos stored as the file on Google-Drive.
That photo is a thumbnail of 0 byte linked to actual file stored on Google-Drive, so if remove it from library of Google-Photos then also the file on Google-Drive will be removed.

As the option is turned off, the photos from Google-Drive showing in library of Google-Photos will disappear, but only the photo added to the album will stay even if it's from Google-Drive.
The photo is showing during the option is turned on.

The option of Google-Drive has a role to create a Google Photo folder under the My Drive and show the photos stored as the file on Google-Photos.
When you turn the option on, the work that a thumbnail of file of Google-Photos is created and placed in Google Photos folder is applied to one file one time.

Even if the option is turned off, the photos from Google-Photos showing in Google Photos folder will stay.
That photo is a thumbnail of 0 byte linked to actual file stored on Google-Photos, so if remove it from Google Photos folder, then also the file on Google-Photos will be removed.
However, if you remove entire folder, the file on Google-Photos will stay.

Hello Google its been YEARS since this service has been out and missing this important feature, is it just me or is this a HUGE privacy issue!!!

Google Photos has settings for Family Group, and this means that Google Photos can be used by children and teenagers.  Thus, it is worth remembering that some services in Google are not intended for sensitive or not decent content, the same is for the YouTube service, for example.  Therefore, in some cases, it's better not to store such photos on Google services.  You can store them in G Drive, and make hidden folders.  
There is also no definition for nudity for algorithms to do a search, and there are no keywords for this.

I understand your concern and this is certainly not the experience we want you to have while using Google Photos.

Currently, Google Photos will automatically recognize identical photos and uploads them only once. However, if a photo is already uploaded and if you upload the same photo after being edited, though the photo is identical and if there's a difference in the file name & size and if there's a caption added to it, then it'll get uploaded as a separate photo and that's an intended behavior.

Also, could you please check if the the Google Drive option is turned on in Google Photos (Menu > Settings >Google Drive). If this option is turned on, all the copies which are uploaded to Google Drive would show up as duplicate copies in Google Photos.

During the last year I uploaded a number or DNG files on Google Photos. Today I noticed that some of the photos I uploaded have been replaced by the exclamation point symbols. This only affected a small number of pictures taken during July 2018, however other DNG photos taken the same day with the same camera and processed in the same way are untouched at the moment. Also this has happened recently, because all the photos were accessible up to a few days ago, so it is not an upload time error. 
All the pics (both the ones that disappeared and the ones that didn't) had been converted  to DNG with Adobe DNG using the default setttings. The original format was Panasonic .RW2, which Google Photos didn't support at the time. 
This is not a huge deal in this case because I still have the original .RW2 files (so I could try to re-convert and re-upload them, if useful to troubleshoot the issue),  however I am worried that this error can propagate to the other unaffected pics, which would make backing up to Google sort of pointless.

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.

Probably, the photos must have been sent and auto downloaded from other social media applications, for example - Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, etc. to your phone (Android) and hence, Google Photos has picked it up for a sync/backup (maybe) or it can be that these photos were download to your device from the web and has been auto synced to Google Photos as a backup. 

It shouldn't be a case where some one else has the access to your Google Photos and Google Account, until you haven't shared your login credentials with anyone. In case, you need to figure out where did the photo come from and sent it to you, I recommend have a look at other communication media (social sites and apps) assistance just to cross check.

Another possibility, is when an album is shared to you by others in Google Photos. Do you have any shared albums as such?

I guess that you mean "Albums" instead of "Folders". In Google Photos you can "Add" photos to an album. The album does not contain copies of the photos, but shows you the photos via a link to the library. Thus when you delete a photo from the library it also disappears from the album. You delete in fact the only copy. The deleted photos should stay 60 days in the trash bin https://photos.google.com/trash. When you emptied the trash they cannot be recovered.

You can also try to recover photos from a laptop, for example using Recuva. But that will only work when the photos have been on the laptop and were deleted.

Depends on what you mean with "Folders". If "Albums" then yes: you will also loose the albums. You can download them and keep them in 2 non-synced places for safety. You can also keep them in Photos AND another place.

I'll happy to help you. Please check the instructions below to know more about sharing albums in Google Photos:
  1. Contacts with this icon  on their profile image use the Google Photos app. If you Send via Google Photos:​
    • They get an in-app notification.
    • Their profile image will be added to the album and will appear faded until they see the album.
    • You can only do this if you've interacted with them through Google services.
    • They may also appear with this icon  if their phone number is connected to their Google Account and you've added it to your Google Contacts.
  2. If you share to a phone number or email address:
    • They get a link to the album, by SMS or email, depending on how it was shared.
    • A generic profile image will be added to the album and will appear faded until they click the link to see the album.
    • If they join the album, their profile image will change into their Google Account profile image.
  3. When they see the album, you'll get an in-app notification.
  4. Anyone that has the shared link will be able to see the album. Learn how to change your sharing options.

I understand and I know how important Google Photos is for you. Please give the below steps a try in a sequence to help resolve the issue:
  • Check your internet connection (mobile data).
  • Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
  • Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
  • Clear App data:
    • Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
    • Touch Apps.
    • Select Google Photos in the list.
    • Touch Clear data.
  • Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
    • Visit the Google Play Store.
    • Open Google Photos.
    • Touch on Update.

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.

I understand and I'll be happy to help. Are the photos from the device camera folder or from the Google Photos library? If it is from Google Photos, it can be possible that the photos weren't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon  (which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.

Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.

In case, you are uploading a large amount of data (photos/videos), please know that it might take 24-48 hours for the photos and videos to sync across all devices. Please ensure to have 'Backup & sync' enabled on the Google Photos settings while you're backing up your photos and videos. To check is the content is backed up, login in to photos.google.com to checked for your backed up photos and videos. 

However, if you're sure they were backed up, I recommend you looking for your video here:
If a photo/s is deleted from Google Photos, it would go to Trash/Bin for the next 60 days (after deletion). Unfortunately, if the photos aren't found in Trash or deleted from Trash, I'm afraid, you might not find them else where to recover them because Trash is the last resort to retrieve your lost/deleted photos.

Meanwhile, please uninstall and reinstall the Google Photos app on your iOS device and login with the same Google Account to check if this sorts the issue.

Could you please elaborate the issue or your query for me to assist you better? Are you referring to deleting photos from Google Photos or from your device? Before you delete photos and videos, Know where photos do and don't get removed:

Photos and videos you delete are also removed from:Photos and videos you delete are not automatically removed from:
  • Blogger
  • YouTube
  • Gmail
  • Google+Free up space on your Android device
Free up space on your Android device:
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  2. Sign in to your Google Account. 
  3. Tap Menu   Free up space
  4. You'll see how many items will be removed. To delete all the items from your phone, tap Free up.
  5. To see your photos and videos, go to photos.google.com or open the Google Photos app .
What happens when you remove photos and videos from your phone:
If you remove copies of photos and videos on your phone, you'll still be able to:
  • See your photos and videos, including the ones you just removed, in the Google Photos app and photos.google.com.
  • Edit, share, delete, and manage anything in your Google Photos library.
You won't be able to see photos and videos you removed if:
  • You use your mobile device's built-in gallery.
  • You're offline.
  • You're not signed in to the Google Photos app .

I understand and I know how important Google Photos is for you. Please give the below steps a try in a sequence to help resolve the issue:
  • Check your internet connection (mobile data).
  • Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
  • Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
  • Clear App data:
    • Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
    • Touch Apps.
    • Select Google Photos in the list.
    • Touch Clear data.
  • Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
    • Visit the Google Play Store.
    • Open Google Photos.
    • Touch on Update.

As the title states, I want to delete a photo from an album (from here on called album A) because I have it in another album (album B). 

Edit: As of the moment, a top contributor has responded with an answer. While it did not solve my issue, it could possibly be helpful for others. If not, I found my own solution that I posted further down that also works.

What I had done was that at first I had copied the photo from album A to album B because I wasn't so sure about album B, but once I knew that I was going to keep album B, I wanted to delete the photo from album A. I had thought that by copying the photo, it would have duplicated it, but I realize through other threads (My photos were deleted from an untouched album) that even if you copy, it is still the same photo. This thread says that I should have "removed" instead of deleting the photo, but I don't see any way to do that.

I have tried moving the photo from A to B hoping that, since it is the same file, it would just remove it from A, but all I get is a grey popup at the bottom saying "trouble moving 1 item." If I try to delete it from A, it deletes it from B, and I understand why, I don't need that explained to me. I just want to know then how to remove the single picture from Album A but keep it in Album B.

Hi, Go to the Albums tab, scroll down to Albums, find and open the album (not Device folder) and tap the photo to open full screen.  The 3 dot menu gives you the option to Reemove from album, Regards, Peter

I did find a solution though. If I moved the picture from Album A to a newly created Album C, when I deleted Album C, the photo was not deleted from Album B. It's a weird workaround, but that's the only way I found to do it.

You are looking at a photo which is physically in a Folder on your Device and the Album rules don't apply because you are also linked to the Backed up copy on Google Photos Web

Albums are also seen on Google Photos Web and photos can be added and removed.

Too frustrating!!!! I agree that having to 'test' if a pic will delete, or remain, is a nuisance, to say the least. I'm afraid to delete anything now, for fear of losing valuable images! I thot the idea of folders, or albums, was to group and organize my pics for easy access.  I assumed deleting duplicate, or unwanted pictures would stop my files from overflowing, and preserve my battery for future use; like taking more pictures!
What's the point of creating folders/albums, if I still must look through thousands of pictures to locate the one I want at any given moment?

Up until a few months ago this had been working perfectly fine. I tried removing and re-adding my partner account but to no avail, same issue.

My partner account pictures and videos appear just fine in my Google Photos library (they auto-add without issue). However, they no longer appear in my Google Drive 'Google Photos' folder. Pictures and videos I take show up just fine in Drive.

It's a folder that gets auto created within Google Drive. I didn't create the folder. I enabled the setting within Google Drive to auto add my Google Photos into a folder in My Drive. See included image screenshot.

Welcome to the Google Photos forum, where you can get tips and answers on this product!
I understand your concern, but your question is not related to Google Photos.  The fact is that in the world there are many different types of brands of manufacturers, types of devices and services for sending various messages, it is impossible to learn them all, since everything is constantly changing.  

To find a solution, you need to enter a query in Google Search and write your question in the search bar.  Write the question like this: the name of your device ... then write the question.  
There you will see articles on how to save. 

 Sometimes it helps to save this method: open the received message, select a photo, click share or send and a list of apps will appear where you can send the photo, and then there is a choice for saving, and it can also be "save to SD card" or something  like that.

There is no easy way to download all your photos back to your phone. The best way would be to select all the photos you want on your phone, tap share, select "Save to Drive", once they're in Drive you can select them from there and select "Download" to save them to your phone.
