Probably you are not talking about captions, but about comments. 

Captions are descriptions right-up in the infopanel, preferably added before uploading. 

Comments are typed by viewers if allowed in the options of the shared album. 

Of course you also can use a comment to give a longer explanation then usual in captions which merely contain keywords for searching. 

Captions should get downloaded with the picture, comments are readable in the album only.

Firstly, I'd recommend that you check that all your photos are located in Google Photos. You can check by visiting gPhotos within an internet browser instead of an app (such as Chrome, Firefox etc). 

If you're photos are in there, then it will just take some time for your app to update itself and access all your photos (especially if you have a lot of them!).

 

Just make sure that you have opened Google Photos, and have logged into the same account that you were using on your previous device.

I would recommend removing that person's access from the Share list.

To stop sharing:

1. On your computer, go to photos.google.com.
2. On the left, click Sharing.
3. Open a shared album.
4. In the top right, click More   Options.
5. Turn off Share.
6. Click Stop sharing or Delete.

Wait a little bit and then add them again. This should then send the invitation/link again for them to join.

 

Otherwise, you they should be able to see the album from within the 'Sharing' tab in Google Photos.

I can eventually get it to go back to Original but by this time some have already been uploaded as High and there is no way to find out which. Why it doesn't just stop uploading I have no idea but I would like to know how to make it do this. At least then I can restart it as original once it has corrected itself.

I do not know Windows Live Gallery, but Google Photos should sort photos according to DateTimeOriginal in the EXIF data when available. Can you check whether that date is available in the uploaded photos ?

Hi there, I'm sorry but I don't understand your question. I just load my pictures on to my pc and edit them accordingly. Sometimes I do a stitch. I renumber them once done but as I said google photos does not sort by name. Thank you for your reply.

Sorry. I wrote "data" instead of "date". The phrase is now corrected: "Can you check whether that date (DateTimeOriginal) is available in the uploaded photos ?". Photos from a digital camera should have such date, but for example scanned photos, stitched photos or collages may not. In that case you should give them an estimated date.  

I agree: it's a shame that sorting by name is not implemented. It would make sorting a lot easier. May I suggest to send feedback to request this feature (more requests may (or may not) help: 

1. Go to photos.google.com.
2. At the top left, open the Menu , then select Send feedback.

The photos do have a date and time.  You are correct if I stitch them then the date is the one the stitch was created...... also if occasionally I use an online photo editor the same happens. However I always ensure the date is correct in WLG but when I check in the photo file location it has the newer date.  It means that once uploaded I have to go into each photo and change date and time.  I hope I have explained this well.

I want to make movies from a selection of my videos in google photos. Google's algorithms are still not better than me to choose the best part of a video, so I spend some time editing in the film.  I can do it on my phone, but it would be SO much easier on a big screen! So why is it not an option to make and edit movies on a PC or in a browser? It would be a big help.

Also I miss the posibility to make a titel and use themes, when making films - gives them a more impressive finish. We used to be able to do that in earlier versions - why not anymore?

When viewing the photos on the web you have two options to change the date(s) on a photo(s).

Changing the Date on Multiple Photos at Once

When you open Google Photos  on the web, you can select multiple files by clicking the check  on each photo. Then with the photos selected, you can click on the 3-dot menu in the top right corner and select Edit Date & Time. 

From here you can shift the date and time or set the same date and time for all selected photos. 

Changing the Date and Time on a Single Photo

When you open Google Photos  on the web, you can open a single photo. While looking at the photo, click on the info button  in the top right and the side panel will open. You can then hit the Edit Pen  to change the date to a date of your choice.

I have no problems with old Android 6 on a simple tablet with a medium quality screen, but a lot of problems on modern Android 9 of a fast phone with a high quality screen: often looses connection or just sticks on the same picture without going to the next.  

I only can suggest that you fill the feedback form in the main menu of the app, because we can't solve nothing here - can be system dependant bugs. And the feedback also sends the systemdata.

Then select "UPLOAD" near the top of the page and navigate to the USB stick, select all of the images (Ctrl A  works on Windows if you are inside the correct folder), then "Open" button.

 

The photos will be in  https://photos.google.com/u/0/ by date, so they may not appear at the top of "Photos" but you should see them at: https://photos.google.com/u/0/search/_tra_

Seems an unsolvable problem, so report this bug via the feedback option in the app or on the site (under the 3 small lines left-up). 

If these albums only were shared with you, ask your friend to switch-off the sharing of these albums under the options (top-switch to left). Then restart the app or site, switch-on sharing again and send you fresh links. 

Please let us know if this helps.

He can just copy/paste the existing links in a mail and send them to you. 

In principle anyone having the link can see the photos, except blocked persons when signed in to their account. You can thus first try to view (and join) the albums when signed in, and if not view them in an incognito window.
