I have an album with pictures and items. Everytime I try to manually move (drag) a photo to another place in the album, it automatically changes back to its old position within 5 seconds. Sometimes it even moves somewhere completly random, and in the process f*cks up the entire sorting I did. It is REALLY, REALLY getting on my nerves. Somebody else got this problem? Looks as if it was just coded soo badly by Google.

Question: Why don't I have the option to "back up now" for individual photos?

I have found many photos which did not "pull" from my phone to Google Photos. Some did, but others taken at the same time and place did not. I have found suggestions to open the individual photos on my phone and click "back up now" from the three dots., but I don't have that option. My available options are: Info, Slideshow, Save to device, Add to Album, Use as, Print, Edit in Markup Photo and Move to Archive.

How can I move these photos to Google Photos?

Answer:

Hello Brian, 'Normally'backup now only appears for photos not backed up. If you see Save to device it means that the photo is backed up on the Google servers as seen at:-
grouped by the date of upload.

Peter

Answer:

Peter,
Thank you. I think my issue relates to having two google accounts on my phone tied to Google Photos. One account is used for photos taken at the school where I teach, and the other account is for my personal photos. Can you suggest some way of managing dual accounts and back-up accounts like this?

Answer:

You might consider setting up a new user account.

Different user profiles are accessible since Android 4.2 where stroking down twice from the top of the screen shows a user icon which you can tap to see the Add user option.

After creating a new user you can switch to it and set up a completely separate profile with it's own Photos and camera settings.  For example I can switch between Home and Work and the two have no common apps or settings.  Switching is quick and would allow two Photo accounts to be used completely independently.

I want to put in the location "Morning Star Children's Home" but when I do it automatically adds "Kenya" but the one I am refering to is in Peru.  It doesn't allow me to add Peru.

Answer:

Hello Carol,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.

To assist you better, could you please confirm if you've tried the below steps to edit or remove a location:
  1. On your computer, go to photos.google.com.
  2. Open the photo or video.
  3. Click Info
  4. Next to the location, click More   Edit .
  5. Add or select the location. You can also select 'No location' to remove the location.
You can also edit the location of multiple photos by selecting the photos  More   Edit location.

Just a heads up: If you turn off Location History, Google Photos will stop estimating and remove all estimated locations on your photos. Learn how to turn Location History off.

Things to know about editing a location:
  • You can edit a location that you've added or was estimated by Google Photos.
  • When you edit the location that was saved by your camera's GPS, it will replace that location, but it won't delete it. The original location saved by your camera's GPS will only appear when you download the photo or share it to other apps. The location that you added will only be shared within Google Photos.
Keep me posted.

Best,
Sonya

I've tried your other suggestions including disabling the app

Hi Michelle,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Photos Help Community.

I certainly understand what you're going through as you're unable to view your photos on the Google Photos app. For this, could you please confirm, if you're able to view photos through the web version of Google Photos?

In the meantime, please try these steps on your One Plus 6 device:
  1. Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
  2. Clear App data/cache:
    • Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
    • Touch Apps.
    • Select Google Photos in the list.
    • Touch Clear data/cache
  3. Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
    • Visit the Google Play Store.
    • Open Google Photos.
    • Touch on Update.
  4. Restart your device.
If possible, try checking the photos from another device to see if that  helps.

Keep me posted.

Face recognition was not working, I turned it off in settings and now "Face grouping" option is not showing up anymore and I can not turn it back on. Please help. I am in US and my account is US too.

Answer:

Similar issue here in Canada. My account is administered by my employer, a school division (I guess that could matter, but I'm doubting its part of my issue as face grouping was working before). Have had face grouping on for at least 5 years. Somehow, too many faces got merged into wrong groupings and I was hoping to start over by turning face grouping off and then back on. After turning it off, the option to group similar faces in settings no longer shows up. In looking for help, this is a very common issue it seems. There are many forums talking about it without any good solutions I can find.

It was ok so far but recently Google photos started showing catched images from all the device folders. I've tried reinstalling photos app but it didn't work and also read some articles for the same issue but I'm still unable to find the solution. Should I reset the phone now?

Answer:

Hello Jitendra,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos support Community.

The photos aren't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon  (which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.

Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. Hence, these aren't actually backed up.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,
Amanda

Answer:

Hi Srikanth,

I’m sorry, it’s not possible to recover photos permanently deleted from the Google Photos Trash. However, you may install to your device a deleted photo recovery app and run a scan for anything to recover.

In addition I recommend that you contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Just open the Google Drive https://support.google.com/drive/?hl=en&authuser=0#topic=14940&contact=1 contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.

Question: Changing photo order in an album I have created is not updated between photos.google.com and iOS app

Trying to re-order photos in album on both web and iOS

I gave it a try here with https://photos.google.com  and the mobile app on an Android tablet, and the changes on the web were immediately reflected on the tablet, without even touching it. On an iPad however I had to close the album and open again to see the new order.

Answer:

Many thanks for the quick reply janvb. I am sure I tried that before - even closing the iOS app itself and re-opening, not just the album. Given your reply, I tried again and found the same. But then I changed the order under iOS and refreshed the web page on my mac and the new order updated. Guess what? Since then it updates both ways - as you say after closing and re-opening the album. Anyway, it is good to know as it overcomes one of the limitations in the Apple Photos shared albums - one of the reasons I am trying out Google Photos again.

Cheers (as a Picasa user of old).

Roger

Hello Emily,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.

I understand and I'll be happy to help. It can be possible that the photos weren't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup.

If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.

In case, you are uploading a large amount of data (photos/videos), please know that it might take 24-48 hours for the photos and videos to sync across all devices. Please ensure to have 'Backup & sync' enabled on the Google Photos settings while you're backing up your photos and videos. To check is the content is backed up, login in to photos.google.com to checked for your backed up photos and videos.

However, if you're sure they were backed up, I recommend you looking for your video here:
If a photo/s is deleted from Google Photos, it would go to Trash/Bin for the next 60 days (after deletion). Unfortunately, if the photos aren't found in Trash or deleted from Trash, I'm afraid, you might not find them else where to recover them because Trash is the last resort to retrieve your lost/deleted photos.

Meanwhile, please uninstall and reinstall the Google Photos app on your iOS device and login with the same Google Account to check if this sorts the issue.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,
Amanda

Only the Google Drive support team has a process to try to recover files deleted from Google Drive, which sometimes works also for photos in Google Photos.

There's no similar tool or process for Google Photos. If the Google Drive support team can't run the process, or the process doesn't return anything, there's unfortunately nothing we (we are volunteers, users like you helping other users) or Google can do. Sorry.

Which of the links I posted doesn't work? I tried both and they seem to lead to the intended page.
