Hi,
Thanks for posting in the Google Photos community.
If you deleted the photos from your phone and Google Photos, chances are they are gone for good. You can try to use Google Takeout at takeout.google.com and try to recover them that way.
Hope it works out.

Permanently deleted usually means forever since that is what permanent means, However, its a long shot, but if not deleted too long ago you can try using the steps outline here.

Answer:
Hi Rob,
Thanks for reaching out!
As @janvb said, Google Photos can now only group the faces of your pets, dogs, and cats only.
Actually, we don't have any other information on if Google is trying to create a system to track elephants.
Still, you can search for "elephant" in your Google Photos to see the photos containing elephants.

The file size is reduced by google. In google photo web the size is much smaller than in my google photo app. However, I can only download in bulk from the web. The configuration is 'original size' so I don't understand this and consider a different back-up option.
Answer:
Hi there,
Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.
To assist you better, could you please let me know what exactly are you referring to when you say "The File size is reduced"? Is it the dimensions or the quality of the photo has been reduced?
Incase if you're referring to the dimensions of the photos has been reduced, please try the steps mentioned below in a sequence to help resolve the issue:
- Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos (photos.google.com) with the same Google Account.
- Clear your cookies and cache.
- Try Incognito/private window.
- Specially disable extensions/add-ons/plug-ins.
If you're referring to the quality of the photo, it would be great if you can share a screenshot of the difference that you're referring to. Please ensure you mask any personal and/or account information in the screenshot that you'll share.
Keep me posted.

However, when I then upload this same photos to Google Photos, the date will show as yesterday. How can I fix this?
Answer:
Hi Frank,
Thanks for reaching out to the Google Photos Help Community.
I certainly understand the importance of being able to right dates on photos. For this, let's try few steps on your device:
On your laptop:
- Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos (photos.google.com) with the same Google Account.
- Clear your cookies and cache.
- Try Incognito/private window.
- Disable extensions/add-ons/plug-ins.
- Try a different browser to see if it is a browser related issue.
If possible, try uploading the photos from another device to see if that helps.
Keep me posted.

Answer:
Hello Vaishnavi,
Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.
Could you please check if you've turned off back & Sync for the device folder that you want to backup or don't see? Settings > Back up & Sync > Back up device folders > Choose folder that you want to back up.
You can choose the folder by tapping Back up device folders from the settings on Google Photos App and select the folder that you want to back up. Folder can include:
- Photos/Videos that you've downloaded.
- Screenshots that you've taken.
- Photos/Videos saved by other apps.
Check out this handy help center article for more information on "Change "Back up & sync" settings".

Answer:
Hi Matteo,
Thanks for reaching out to the Google Photos Help Community.
Please know that, there is an automatic check behind-the-scenes to determine whether the exact same photo was already uploaded to Google Photos. Any change made to the photo (except rename) or a change to it's metadata will cause the photo to be re-uploaded.
Also, backup & sync builds a new hierarchy in Google Drive which mirrors the computer folder structure before passing the photos on to Google Photos. If you want to use this, we recommend creating a new hierarchy on your computer for new photos.
Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Answer:
I think you can accomplish what you want, just not as directly as you think.
When you turn on the option to show Google Photos in Google Drive, it creates a Google Photos folder and subfolders for each year and month within the year.
There is no way to mirror your Google Photos albums in Google Drive, but you can recreate them. You don't have to leave your photos in the Year/Month folders that Google Drive creates. You can move pictures into other folders that you create, then you can share those folders with the Google Drive sharing tools.
Let me know if that helps.

Question: i want recover deleted video
i want recpver video
Hi Amit,
Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.
To assist you better, could you please confirm if the video deleted from your device or Google Photos? Are you trying to restore them?
Incase if you've deleted the video from your phone, it looks like the video didn't backed up properly to your Google Photos account. Could you please check if you're able to see the video on web (photos.google.com)? If not, please check for the following things:
1. Can you see them via Picasa?
2. Are they in the trash?
3. Check the Assistant for the status of your backups.
4. Ensure you are logged in to the correct Google account.
If they are still missing, then unfortunately there isn't a way to retrieve them. Going forward, I'd suggest deleting the photos and the videos using the Google Photos Free up Space option to avoid any data loss as it is the best way to remove a backed-up video/image from your phone, leaving it in the cloud, and this will only delete the files which are backed up completely on Google Photos. To do so, please follow the steps from "Free up space on your phone" help center article.
Also, try checking your backup status on your phone and check if you're able to see the photos and videos on web (photos.google.com) before you delete them on your phone:
- Open the Google Photos app on your mobile device
.
- At the top left, touch the menu icon
> Assistant.
- Read the first card. If it says:
- "Waiting for connection" or "Waiting for Wi-Fi": You need to either change your settings or connect to a Wi-Fi or mobile network. Touch the card to change your settings.
- "Back up & sync is off": Touch "TURN ON" on the card to back up your device's photos and videos, including ones you capture in the future.
- "A photo or video was skipped": A photo or video on your mobile device doesn't meet our upload requirements:
- Photos can't exceed 75MB or 100 megapixels
- Videos can't exceed 10GB
- "Backing up photos" or "Backup complete": This means your photos and videos should be saved.
Just a heads up: Photos and videos that aren't backed up will have this cloud icon
or circular-arrow icon based on the version of Google Photos App on your phone.
If you're still facing the issue, try the steps from this "My photos aren't being backed up" help center article.
Incase if the video is backed to Google Photos and if you've deleted it accidentally from the Google Photos then it will be deleted from your phone also.
If you have back up & sync on, photos and videos you delete will stay in your trash for 60 days. You can recover deleted items by following the below steps:
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app
.
- At the top left, tap Menu
, then Trash.
- Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
- At the top right, tap Restore
. That photo or video will be restored to your Google Photos library and added back into any albums it was in.
Incase, if you're unable to restore from the Google Photos, the following things could be the reasons:
- Photos and Videos moved to trash more than 60 days ago.
- Photos and Videos moved to trash, then emptied your trash.
- Photos and Videos moved to trash permanently deleted from your trash.
Also, I'd recommend you look for your photos here, signing in with all your Google accounts if you have more than one:
- get.google.com/albumarchive
- drive.google.com (under Google Photos)
- other online photo or file storage services you use (e.g. Dropbox, OneDrive, iCloud).
Check out this handy Help Center article for more information on how to "See if you can restore deleted photos & videos".
Keep me posted.

Sonya

Hello!

Whenever I upload a photo, it is brightened compared to my original photo.
I even made a comparison in my editing program, and the uploaded photo is nearly 20% brighter/lightened than the original.

Normally that's not like shown below:

Left part: final stage in my desktop-editor full screen (jpg-file from Samsung smartphone).

If I don't move my mouse, the buttons on top will disappear and then the images are exactly identical.

So you must tell us exactly what you are doing - else we can't explain.

Hello and thank you for the reply.
I edit my photos as per usual, save them as .JPG, and upload.
(Tried also as .PNG, same thing happened.)
This is the first time I've noticed it - the photo is brightened.
Normally not, that is but not it is brightened.
Shadows are lightened, to be precise.
The part of the photo I intentionally left a bit darker, for the overall mood is now lightened, that is what I am saying.
Thank you. x
Answer:
As you see in my precious example, the whole foreground is in shadow and not brighter at right at all.
So I can't explain your observation, unless your browser has some automatic brightness setting included in order to make dark pictures more attractive. I am not aware of such automatics in my Chrome-browser.
Sorry Victoria, then you must wait on other comments.
PS: it makes no sense to try other filetypes, but it makes sense to view your pictures full screen - as well in your editor as in your browser (F11) and then to make screenshots like I have done.

I went to look through my photos, and noticed that many of them are missing, from earlier today to back even before I was last connected to WiFi. I have tried using a different gallery app, tried checking through my phone's files, checked the trash, checked photos.google.com, asked Verizon for help. Nothing has worked. It appears my photos were simply deleted by my phone for no reason, despite me having plenty of space on my phone. Is there anything I can do to get them back?

Answer:
Hi Dariusz,
Thanks for reaching out and we're sorry about the issue!
I think the download or your photos in Google Drive made the issue.
I prefer you to download all those photos in your Google Drive and directly upload them into your Google Photos.
I hope it will fix your issue!
Thanks
Answer:
Such behavior always is caused by users wanting too much automatics without understanding because then it can become really complex.
Besides: Google Photos tries to prevent duplicates, so if you see them, they are different on one tiny point you may not see at al.
Because you seem to upload to Google Photos via the Backup & Sync app, there normally should be no need to use Google Drive at all, unless used before B&S via the old Google Drive Sync app. If so, you will have normal folders with pictures on Drive and if these are made visible in Photos, you can see the original pictures from Drive and the freshly uploaded (but compressed) pictures which still were on your computer via B&S.
Just come back here to tell if this is a correct assumption.
PS: Google Photos maybe useless for quite different reasons, namely that you loose all structuring in folders (named albums there). These albums can be created, but that is an awfull job for a large collection.
Answer:
Hi Sreelal,
Thanks. Cleaning everything and starting from scratch sounds like a good idea. I have tried it already but it is not so simple. Deleting pictures on Google Photos causes deletion of the corresponding files on Google Drive, even if I switch off the synchronization between the two. Fortunately my laptop was closed at this point, otherwise also my original files would be gone. So, can you write clearly for me the steps of the procedure you are proposing?
Cheers, Dariusz
Answer:
Hi Rinus,
I see duplicates, I download the two files and run the linux diff command between them and the linux diff is telling me that they are identical. So, they really are identical.
Cheers, Dariusz
Answer:
Then that diff-command does not look into metadata details.
Besides: you did not tell you are on Linux, but there is no Backup & Sync app for Linux unless you have a Windows-emulator running.
Please be much more clear about your doings and don't automatically assume that Google is doing something wrong.
But even if that is the case, we do need to knwo exactly what you are doing to be able to send a bug report.

Hi James,
it would indeed be really useful to have some more details on the changes that come with new versions of the Google Photos app. I recommend that you send your suggestion to the Google Photos team as explained in these instructions https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6156065
A workaround is to follow the major tech news sites and blogs, which cover also the latest updates of Google Photos.

Answer:
Hi Martin,
Thanks for reaching out to the Google Photos Help Community.
I certainly understand your concern. Please know that, your storage is shared across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos. So, it would be great if you can share a few screenshots of storage used by Google Photos here. Please don't share any personal or account information when sending the screenshots.
In the meantime, please follow these steps on your device:
- Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
- Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
- Clear App data:
- Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
- Touch Apps.
- Select Google Photos in the list.
- Touch Clear data.
- Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
- Visit the Google Play Store.
- Open Google Photos.
- Touch on Update.
- Restart your device.
If possible, try uploading photos from another device to see if that helps.
Keep me posted.

I have noticed when I save a photo from a text on my iphone it save to my camera roll but wont save/sync to google photos. Is there a setting somewhere I need to change?
Answer:
Hi George,
Thanks for reaching out to the Google Photos Help Community.
I certainly understand the importance of being able to backup photos. Please know that, if a photo or video didn't back up, it might be because:
- Item size: Photos larger than 75MB or 100MP, videos larger than 2GB, and items smaller than 256 x 256 can't be backed up.
- Slow network connection: Your device might have a slow or no network connection.
- Unsupported file type: See which file types can be backed up.
You may also upload the videos manually to Google Photos from your browser:
- On your device, open photos.google.com.
- At the top right, click Upload.
- Find and select your photos.
- Click Open.
Also, search for a person, place, or thing in the photo:
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app
.
- At the top, type what you want to find, like "dogs", "New York City", or someone you've labeled.
If your search is coming up empty, try:
- Search with a different keyword.
- Search again in 3—5 days. It can take awhile for photos to be searchable.
Note: Check for the photo on the Google Photos app based on the date it was sent to you.
Keep me posted.
Best,

Question: Plz help to recover my deleted photos
Plz recover my deleted photos
Hi Ivan,
Thanks for reaching out to the Google Photos Help Community.
I certainly understand the importance of photos and videos on an account. To see if you can restore deleted photos, please follow these steps:
- On your device, open Google Photos.
- At the top left, tap Menu
Trash
.
- Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
- At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
- In your phone
- Into the "Photos" section of the app.
- Into any albums it was in.
Also, if something isn't in your trash, it can't be restored. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
- You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
- You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
- You permanently deleted it from your trash.
- You permanently deleted it from your device's Gallery app, without being backed up.
Note: If you have back up & sync on, photos and videos you delete will stay in your trash for 60 days. Learn how to turn on back up & sync.
Photos and videos you delete are also removed from:
- photos.google.com and any synced devices
- Google Photos albums
- Google Photos movies when you edit them. Learn more about deleted photos in movies.
- Google Drive, for photos and videos that are synced with Google Drive. Learn how Google Drive works with Google Photos.
- Any shared albums you may have added them to.
I'd recommend you look for your photos here, signing in with all your Google accounts if you have more than one:
- get.google.com/albumarchive
- drive.google.com (under Google Photos)
- other online photo or file storage services you use (e.g. Dropbox, OneDrive, iCloud).
I'd also recommend you contact the Google Drive support team as they can restore photos up to 21 days after deletion if the photos are available in the Google Drive. You can click the "Missing or deleted files" entry of the contact form and request a phone call or any other option that works for you.
You may check out these handy Help Center articles for more information on how to "See if you can restore deleted photos& videos" and "Find missing photos & videos".
Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Question: I have cleared my photos off my sd card using a pc. How can I keep my photos on Google photos?
I have turned off sync for now.
Hi there,
Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.
Could you please let me know if you've deleted the photos directly from the SD card or SD via free up space option in Google Photos?
If you're using free up space option, just to let you know that there isn't any direct way on Google Photos to delete the photos on SD Card. Free up space option only deletes the photos from the phone memory and not from SD card. However, once the photos of SD card are backed up to Google Photos, you can manually delete them from the SD card and it doesn't delete from the Google Photos.
Let me know if this helps.
Best,
Sonya
Answer:
Sonya, thanks for getting back. Some files appeared to be corrupted and it was virtually impossible to copy and delete all the files. I removed the sd card from the phone, copied all I could to the PC then deleted the photos on the card. My concern is that Google Photos will be able to tell that the files have been deleted from the card and promptly delete them from the cloud.
I have thought that archiving the files then restoring them might do the trick?

Answer:
HI,
Thanks for posting in the Google Photos community.
If the photos were never sync'd with Google Photos, they are likely gone. They were on the device but were never backed up & sync'd to an external source (Photos or otherwise).
Have you verified that the photos are not in a gallery app (most of them have a trash folder)?
There is no way to really know what happened here. There are so many phones with so many configurations that it is very difficult for us to troubleshoot.
Sorry I don't have better news.

Answer:
Hi Eveshinee,
Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.
It looks like you're unable to see the face group of a person after turning on face grouping. Please know that, you'll stop getting similar faces grouped together in your photos. If you turn off face grouping, you delete:
- Face groups in your account
- Face models used to create those face groups
- Face labels you created
In the meantime, you may try these steps to toggle the settings:
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app
.
- Sign in to your Google Account.
- Tap Menu
Settings
Group similar faces.
- Turn off/on Face grouping.
However, once you turn on the face grouping, Google Photos does take a certain amount of time to scan the photos and add them in the 'People' folder. I'd suggest you to sit back and relax and wait for a couple of days.
Also, please check if the face group was accidentally hidden by following these steps:
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app
.
- Go to 'Albums', click on the 'People' folder.
- At the top right, click More
> Show & hide people.
- Check and click the people you want to unhide.
- (To hide someone, click the box again.)
- At the top right, click DONE.
Keep me posted.

Hi Nasir,
There are a number of ways to share your photos.
You can find several workflows on this help page.
In general,
1. Open Google Photos
2. Select an image to share
3. Select the < share icon
4. Select a person to share it with via an app, like email, or texting from the options that show up.
If the image is large, I suggest using the option to get a link to the photo and then sharing the link to bypass any size limits an app might have.
Enjoy
Joe

Unfortunately, when it comes to Gmail, you've pretty much found the way to do it. There is no bulk upload functionality for Gmail.

However I tried to add/back up 13 more videos today at 2.1 MP all worked ok. Hi,
Thanks for posting in the Google Photos community.
Your issue may not actually be the videos (although I'll highlight something later in this reply you can try. Keep in mind that a lot of services use Google Drive: Gmail, Photos, Good Docs/Sheets/Slides (if you have non-Google files stored) PDFs, etc. So it could be something else in this case. Most often when we see this, it is related to Gmail and attachments in Gmail.
A couple of things:
1. Go to drive.google.com In the bottom left corner, click the link Upgrade Storage. This will display a screen that allows you to upgrade storage but also shows you where your Drive quota is being used. That can help you identify what exactly is taking up space.
2. If Photos is indeed using up space, you can go to photos.google.com, click on Settings in the menu, and click Recover Storage. This will convert anything you have uploaded in original quality to high quality. Note that it can take up to 24 hours for your storage to be returned.
Hope this helps & helps explain things.
