Recently, I cannot download pictures or videos from Google photos that have been previously backed up. They just appear as a 0 byte file in my DCIM Restored folder. I've tried everything, I don't know how to fix this.

After enabling the option to create a Google Photos folder in my Drive, certain photos do not show up. My most recent photos do show up, but in my 2015 folder, there are only around 10, even through I have many more in my Google Photos. Additionally, the photos that do sync are randomly selected. My 2014 folder has no photos at all in the Drive folder. I am confused as to why these photos do sync and others refuse to.

You can forget about that insecure option and nobody can explain why it behaves so badly and what you can do about that. 
If you want to backup your smartphone pictures, you should make year-albums on Google Photos just containing valuable pictures, because such albums can be downloaded as a zip folder which can be unzipped an copied to an external disc. Then you know what you do and you are not dependent on some obsolete automatics.

It may have worked or still work well for some or even many, but there have been complaints for a very long time about incomplete of at least very slow syncing. That's a pity because it makes it unreliable to use it for one-way syncing to a computer as backup. 

Adding photos to albums and download the albums is a much better approach indeed, but many do not want to spend the time. Another advantage for those doing some editing: by downloading from Photos you get edited copies, from Drive the unedited originals.

You need to activate the "Group similar faces option through the following steps.
  • Tap your profile icon.
  • Tap Photos settings
  • Tap Group similar faces.
  • Tap on the slider in front of "Face grouping".

I have a Google pixel 4A. I am currently having issues with my saved screen recordings from the stock Screen Recorder. It gives me three options when selecting what audio setting I would prefer. The three options are as followed ¹Device Audio, ²Microphone, and last but not least ³Device Audio and Microphone. here are some of the possible reasons why you are seeing photos you may not recognize:
  • Your Google account shares storage with other products such as Blogger, Google Drive, Google+ or Hangouts. It is possible that you uploaded images to one of the other Google products which is now being displayed in Google Photos.
  • You accepted someone’s invite to share their photo library.
  • You uploaded someone’s files to your Google Drive storage.
  • You left your account signed in on another device.
  • You sold a device without resetting it to factory defaults.
  • You received the images via a messaging application such as Hangouts, WhatsApp, etc.
  • You configured the Google Backup & Sync software on a computer to upload the photos from a system folder such as the cache of a web browser.
  • You set up a third party service (e.g. IFTTT) to automatically upload photos to your account.
  • You have in your mobile device’s microSD slot a card you aren’t aware of or don’t remember inserting.
