I frequently download photos to an external hard drive and in the past they always download it with …

I frequently download photos to an external hard drive and in the past they always download it with the photos original date. Over the last couple months I noticed that when I tried to do this they now download with only today's date. 

I would like to download these with the original date but I'm not sure why it's not downloading that way anymore. I've seen multiple forums regarding this question with none really providing a good answer. Any help?

Another user found a workaround using Google Takeout and a third party app https://metadatafixer.com/
 
It restores the original creation date, including any date changed in Google Photos and any descriptions written into the Caption tag of the downloaded files.
 
Very simple to use and has a free mode limited to zips of 100 photos. You could create an album of 100 photos, download with Takeout an d drag/drop it onto the app.

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your post.
 
Regrettably, the Google Photos app doesn't have a feature to add a password.
 
You can use the "Locked folder" feature to hide your sensitive photos or videos.
 
Further, to protect your content in Google Photos, you may follow these steps.
  • Set up two-step authentication for your Google account.
  • Change the password to a complex combination of letters, numerals & special characters. No one should be able to guess the password.
  • Never share your password with anyone.
  • Use screen pinning when you hand over your phone to someone for making a call etc.
  • Log off from browsing sessions from desktop PCs.
  • Check the devices you continue to remain logged in through the link https://myaccount.google.com/device-activity. Remove any unknown device.
  • Do not share your photos & videos with anyone when you are suspicious about falling into the wrong hands.
  • Remove any partner sharing for the same reason.
  • Refrain from sharing your photos & videos on any social media.
Once you ensure every step as above, there wouldn't be any possibility of your photos & videos ever getting leaked.

Correct, but I want to add that photos in the "Locked folder" are very unprotected. They are not backed up, and can easily disappear.
  • Items in your Locked Folder that are saved to your device aren’t moved to other devices during cable or cloud data transfers.
  • If you uninstall the Photos app or clear your Photos app data, you’ll lose all items in your Locked Folder. To save these items, remove them from Locked Folder before you make changes.
but also a factory reset (which may be needed) and other actions can make you loose them. You must save them also elsewhere if you do not want to loose them.

There is no unlimited storage, all photos use storage according to their upload quality.
 
You can choose to back up your photos and videos either in Storage saver quality (previously named high quality) or in original quality. Photos and videos backed up in Storage saver quality from Pixel 3a–5 are unlimited and cost $0. Photos and videos backed up in original quality count towards your Google Account storage. Learn how to change your upload size and learn more about storage plans
 
You get unlimited storage in original quality at no charge for all photos and videos backed up to Google Photos from Pixel 3 until 31 Jan 2022. Photos and videos backed up on or before that date will remain in original quality at no charge. After 31 January 2022, new photos and videos will be backed up in Storage saver quality (previously named high quality) at no charge. Because I have that old phone I was supposed to have unlimited free photo storage but even before I switched to the Pixel 6 it said I was out of storage.

I now can't even receive emails or backup photos or anything else to the account because it says my photo storage has tipped me over the edge but that shouldn't be the case because I had a Pixel 1

It all started when I made a folder to keep pictures of my girlfriend. Every time I tried to move a picture to that folder, it would vanish. I looked this problem up and Google said that backed up folders will store those in my photo library. That folder was not being backed up though, however I went back to check and now it was being backed up (I never told it to). So I check my settings and back-up & sync was off. I try moving all the photos that were already in that folder to a new one, now the ENTIRE NEW FOLDER IS GONE!!!  And it took ALL my photos with it! I go back to settings and back-up & sync is now on (remember it was off) I try getting new photos to upload and none of them are uploading to Google Photos. Nothing saves anymore!! I download something off Google (ironic) it does not save to my photos, I save a picture from Instagram it does not save to my photos.... Please someone explain why this app is not working anymore and where all my pictures went
