Google Photos is already private because it is secured with your Google Account credentials. Google Photos doesn't delete photos by itself from an account without your consent. It shouldn't be a case where some one else has the access to your Google Photos and Google Account, until you haven't shared your login credentials with anyone.

Files without exif get the date of up- or downloading. 
That's called "date modified" in the very poor info left. 
That also is the case with pictures (and videos) on Whatsapp etc, which got their original exif completely stripped by their downsizer. 
A confusing and very irritating and timeconsuming bug not caused by Google Photos directly.

Quite a few videos use the Apple Quicktime standard, this one is an example from my Android. In the absence of Quicktime, the file system modify date dominates and I don't know if that can be changed.

I understand and I know how important Google Photos is for you. Please give the below steps a try in a sequence to help resolve the issue:
  • Check your internet connection (mobile data).
  • Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
  • Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
  • Clear App data:
    • Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
    • Touch Apps.
    • Select Google Photos in the list.
    • Touch Clear data.
  • Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
    • Visit the Google Play Store.
    • Open Google Photos.
    • Touch on Update.

Hello, when I initially synced my iphone photos to google photos I didn't realized I had done this under my work email. Once I realized this I switched over to my personal account. Some photos and videos never moved over though and then once I left my job, they deleted my account right away before I remembered to save those photos/videos connected to my work email. Is there any way to retrieve these? I feel like they are probably somewhere lost in space as the email was deleted but not the photos/videos?

If the photo has a green check it should be uploaded.  If you right click on the computer copy and select Properties; Details you should see a Date Taken. This is where the photo will be placed in the main library page online. You should be able to find it by scrolling to the date at https://photos.google.com/

OK, there is no logical explanation I can think of to explain what you see.

First check the image properties as per:->



If 0 bytes, please try the following:->

Move or drag "2017-02 mete" out of foto to a temporary folder not being monitored
Allow the Backup and Sync copy to be deleted
Move or drag "2017-02 mete" back to foto
Check if all the photos are uploaded to Google Photos

If they are it would be impractical to do that for all folders.  It may be worth removing the tick from fotos click OK and close preferences. Leave for one or two minutes the open preferences and Choose fotos again.  This will re-scan and hopefully pick up any missing photos.

If they are not I don't know what else to suggest.

Good afternoon. Uploading pictures to Google Photos using the High Quality setting in the options of the app will give you unlimited storage for your pictures and videos. This is not unique to the Pixel 3a, as every Google user has access to this.

No there is no way to share json files. Share your photos from your old account to your new account. then add them to your library.
 
Or probably easire is to download the photos to your local computer. then upload them to the new account

You should try to log-in with that "Picasa-account" into https://get.google.com/albumarchive
Best to open this link into the incognito window of your browser to avoid conflicts with "cookies".

Hi Neil,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.

Looks like that's a device feature to permit deletion of photos from your SD card because this feature isn't available with Google Photos. 

Google Photos backs up everything that's there in your device (Device/SD card storage). If all your photos are backed up from your Android device to Google Photos and you're trying to make some device space by deleting photos. 'Free up space' option in Google Photos is the best way out.

The 'Free up space' feature doesn't detect content on your external SD card. You may have to move them from the external SD card to your device and then perform the 'Free up space' action for everything to be cleared. Do this only if you're sure all the content in the SD card are backed up to Google Photos.

Maybe faces were hided by using "Show/Hide faces" feature.

To unhide the faces:
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. At the top, tap the search bar.
  4. Next to the row of faces, tap Next ->.
  5. At the top right, tap More  Hide & show people.
  6. Select the face groups you wish to unhide. Face groups displayed in full colour will be displayed when you exit edit mode. Face groups displayed with an overlay dulling their colour, and an eye with a line through it, will not be displayed when you exit edit mode.
  7. At the top right, tap Done.

I want to remove an image from Google images using its tool and the image I want removed has already been deleted from the original website (best case scenario for removal). However, even though Google does remove it, it never disappears completely and every time I look it up, it gives me a different link to it. The link pattern is something like "https://images.app.goo.gl/XXXXXXXXXXXXXX". I don't know what's going on, the image doesn't exist in the original website anymore and every time I check it on Google images, it gives me a different link so I can never truly get rid of it. It seems deterministic; It happens consistently every time I try on most of my photos.
Photos app will then freeze. I need to kill it and open it again.
I am on Pixel 2XL.
The connection is fine; I have tried on LTE and wifi, and over the course of several days.
I do not have an SD card.
I tried clearing data and cache, un-installing updates - all with the same result.
I tried creating a new user on the phone and editing from there - same result.

It's only on *most* of my photos. It is *possible* that this error is occurring on photos that were originally added to my collection by way of the "add to library" button from someone else's shared album - but I'm not sure if this is 100% the case.

 Just to confirm, have you tried all the below mentioned steps which may help resolve the issue:
  • Try clearing the cache and data of the Google App: Settings > Apps > Photos App > Storage > Clear Cache and then tap on Manage Space > Clear All Data.
  • Check if the Google Photos app is updated to the latest version. To check, visit Play Store and go to the Google Photos App page. If you see update button, try updating the app that may help resolve this issue.
  • If the Google Photos app is updated to latest version, uninstalling the update may help resolve the issue. Here's how: Go to device Settings > Apps or application manager > Photos > tap on the menu icon (three vertical dots) on top right corner > Uninstall updates.
  • Log out from all the Google accounts, restart the device and log into Google Photos app using the exact email account.
  • If that doesn't help, go to Settings > Apps > Google App > Disable. Later you can tap on Enable (If you've an option to uninstall the Google App, please uninstall and reinstall the app).
Besides, check if the issue appears on the Web version of Google Photos as well. Also, try signing into Google Photos through a different device and check if the issue persists.

Hello, thanks for your reply. I will clarify each point

- I have tried clearing cache and data. It does not resolve the issue
- I have updated to the latest version. It does not solve the issue.
- I attempted to "uninstall updates" however I cannot test the issue because without the updates, the app crashes immediately upon launch. The app works fine if I first install updates.
- After uninstalling and re-installing updates, the issue is not resolved.
- I did not try logging out, however, I did try creating a new user on my phone, installing google photos, and logging in from there. Note this also has the effect of clearing my local directories. Under the new account photos has the same issue.
- I tried to edit one of the photos on the web version of google photos. The web version does NOT seem to have the same issue. On the web interface, I am able to edit photos as expected.

At any rate, editing from the web is an acceptable work-around for me for now.

Here is the fix to this problem for everyone.

1.  Change the storage location to internal storage for your photos.  This setting is in the camera app.

2.  Take a picture with the camera app.

3.  I can now edit and save my edited picture 

4.  This works for all pictures taken after changing to internal storage.  Pictures taken earlier that were saved on sd card can't be edited and saved with google photos.

5.  I am usimg a Samsung A20 that I just got a week ago and this problem started with the new stuff (new phone,  new google photos app).  I suspect it is a Samsung Issue trying to force people to use their photo cloud since the editing and saving problem is not an issue when I use Samsungs camera and gallery app on sd card.

And I save all my stuff to google cloud with their photo app.  Internal storage vs sd card becomes a matter of semantics at this point.  But to make the save edit process work,  save all photos to internal storage in The camera app and all is good then :-)

WhatsApp media (pictures, GIFs, videos) that I receive automatically appear in the "Photos" tab of my Google Photos app, along with all of the pictures and screenshots I take on my phone. There are also automatically created folders including WhatsApp Animated Gifs, WhatsApp Images and WhatsApp Video and it appears the media goes into those folders as well.

Meanwhile, downloaded media from other apps appear in their own albums - e.g., Instagram, Twitter, KakaoTalk, etc.

My phone is Samsung Galaxy S10+ on Verizon since April.

On my previous phone, Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge on AT&T, the WhatsApp media would automatically go to those automatically created folders.

No idea whether it's phone, software or carrier based issue, thus stating what I have anyway.

Solutions or suggestions on how to not have WhatsApp media appear in "Photos"?

Then you have switched-on the syncing for that garbage media - you can see the WA-folder(s) on the albumpage of the Google app under Pictures from device and when you open such a folder, you can switch-off the syncing on top. 
That action will not remove the pictures stored at Google already - so you have to remove the rubbish there yourself (after switching-off the syncing).

That makes the Google Photos folder in Drive almost completely useless.  Without that option in Google Photos it is a one way sync Photos => Drive. What I need is two way sync Photos <=> Drive like in the personal account.

I'm afraid it's bad news for those who were hoping for the Google Photos <-> Google Drive automatic sync to be added to GSuite. Instead, it's being removed from Google Photos. 
More often than not, the feature caused people to be confused and delete pictures without realizing the deletion was synced. They had to do something.
