Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your post.

 

Google Photos app acts as a portal viewer.
That will show the pics from your phone + cloud irrespective of the sync status.

Thus, that doesn't mean the app keeps uploading the pics to the cloud even after switching the backup & sync off.

 

To verify that, visit the link https://photos.google.com & check whether any newer photos are visible there beyond the date you switch the backup & sync off.

 

Nevertheless, the app will upload that to the cloud irrespective of the backup & sync setting when you add something to an album.

I certainly understand the importance of being able to see albums in your account. To help you better, could you please confirm, if you're able to view these albums through the web version of Google Photos?

If possible, try checking the photos from another device to see if that  helps. If the issue persists, uninstall & reinstall the Google Photos app on your device.

I do understand your concern. Could you please confirm, if you're able to view albums that you created on Google Photos web version and if you've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Google Photos app on your device?

If possible, try checking the albums from another device to see if that  helps.

Hi, I'm having the same issue I used to use an android but I had to give it into repair and all my pictures and videos are always in sync. I'm Currently using an iPhone I logged into my Google photo app on the the iPhone but I see none of my photos and I have thousands on there and now I'm concerned I lost them all

I am having the same issue. I am able to view pictures on web version but not on mobile app. I have pixel 2 so can only disable and enable app. Disable then re-enable does not fix the issue.

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Photos Help Community.

@Sai: I certainly understand the importance of your photos. Please know that, photos and videos you take with your device's camera and photos saved on your phone are saved to your Google Photos library when you turn on backup and sync. Any changes you make will be mirrored on every synced device. For example, if you edit and save a photo on your phone, it will look the same on photos.google.com.

If you want to get a deleted item back, check your trash to see if you can get it back. If your photo or video has already been backed up and you deleted it, it will remain in your Trash for 60 days.

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
2. At the top left, tap Menu , then Trash .
3. Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
4. At the top right, tap Restore . That photo or video will be restored to your Google Photos library and added back into any albums it was in.

If you're unable to see the photos in Trash and want to see the photo or video back in the iPhone or iPad Photos app, go to your iPhone or iPad's Photos app's Recently Deleted album to restore it.

Also, if something isn't in your trash, it can't be restored. You won't be able to restore a photo if:

• You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
• You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
• You permanently deleted it from your trash.
• You permanently deleted it from your device's Gallery app, without being backed up.
