I shared my whole photo library through "partner sharing" on my new account. I saved them to library there which was quite long - I have up to 9k photos. 

Then I began to deleting photos from old account, but not all of them, for now I deleted two months. I checked if photos on new account were still there -eeverything is fine. But I noticed that storage on new account is still at 0 MB. My storage on old account after deleting some photos was smaller immediately. I don't know what to think of this - should I just wait for this to update later? I'm kind of scared to delete all my library if I don't 100% sure all my photos are backed up and secured. I've tried to log out and log in again to both accounts.

Hello Rina,

 

There is currently a bug which prevents the storage being used in your account if the source account is disconnected. This may change any time in the future so if you suddenly see your storage jump it could mean they have fixed it.

Scenario: Google Photos is sync'd to Google Drive with a Google Photos folder.

What I'd like to do is:

1) Move photos from Google Photos folder in Drive to other folders in Drive.

2) Once those are all moved to Drive Folders, delete all photos from Google Photos and have the photos in the Drive folders remain.

Is this possible?

In researching other posts and help topics I have become more unsure this can even be done.

Hello Jim,

 

the thing which makes this impossible is that the entries in the Google Photos folder are stub files linked to the original stored in Google Photos.

 

You can move them and create a folder hierarchy in Drive folders, but as soon as the original us deleted the link is deleted.

 

These stub files do not use any Drive quota, so there isn't any gain from deleting from Google Photos so it depends on what you are trying to achieve as to whether there is a viable option.

 

For info, the Google Photos folder is not an upload path to Google Photos and should be treated as a 'read only' folder,

Hi Jess,

 

A complete reset of the Google Photos app may be required,

1. delete the Google Photos app, photos in the camera roll will not be affected
2. power down/power up or restart the device
3. reinstall Google Photos checking the correct account is used and the backup size is correct
4. Google Photos should rescan the camera roll to backup all the photos which are not already online

If possible leave the app open and make sure that Background app refresh is enabled in the iOS settings; Google Photos
