There is no unlimited storage, all photos use storage according to their upload quality.
 
You can choose to back up your photos and videos either in Storage saver quality (previously named high quality) or in original quality. Photos and videos backed up in Storage saver quality from Pixel 3a–5 are unlimited and cost $0. Photos and videos backed up in original quality count towards your Google Account storage. Learn how to change your upload size and learn more about storage plans

Thank you for your answer, I didn't know that pixel 6 is excluded from  unlimited storage.
Is there any way to check which photos on google photos are using my drive space?
As you can see on previous screen photos takes 3.3GB but I'm not sure which one (I have also some photos from Pixel 2 on my account).

Apologies for the generic reply below, but Google have not currently provided the tools to do what you are asking for.
 
Please use the feedback option to reach out to Goole to share your thoughts about this change. I suggest starting the feedback with the words "Tools required since the change in storage policy on June 1st 2021" - and follow with any further words about your own experience.
 
Head over to https://photos.google.com/quotamanagement  This should give a clue on where the storage is being used. Large photos and videos >5MB are listed and can be reviewed by tapping on the thumbnail to open then select the (i)nfo icon to see more detail about the files.
 
All photos added after June 1st 2021 (excluding earlier Pixels) can be found at https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ and all use storage unless added as part of Partner sharing.

I've had default on my camera use I haven't been able to take any pictures for years so I don't think it's my storage I understood that with Google one I'm almost guaranteed to be able to use my camera to take some pictures I don't know I may have to get rid of my phone or take it to repair what it does is it takes seldomly one or two pictures then goes right back to nothing again

That can be either the internal memory or an SD card.

Further, when you use the "Free up space" feature, the Google photos app removes originals of all backed-up images.
 
That creates space on your phone to click new photos.
 
Nevertheless, once you cross 15 GB of storage space, you need to subscribe to an additional one.

Google Photos never uploads the same picture multiple times.
What we see as duplicates have some differences in file format or metadata.
Additionally, if you have activated Raw + JPEG capture or bracketing in your phone app, that would create duplicates.
 
Regrettably, Google Photos doesn't provide any means to remove the apparent duplicates. You have to search those manually.
 
However, you will find some tips in the following article compiled by experts with comprehensive experience on how to avoid duplicate photos & how to remove those.

I have a Samsung Galaxy A9 2018 device. Google Photos was synchronized with my phone app Gallery.

A few days ago a majority (~90%) of photos from my device went missing after a Google backup that didn't finish because of a loss of my Internet connection. After that I have only a few photos (~10% of the previous number) in my Google Photos left and those are the same as the photos in my Gallery. I lost almost 3000 photos.

I tried to connect my phone to Windows and find if photos were relocated to a different folder. They weren't.

I checked Google Photos app for trash/archive/whatnot folders and there aren't any photos there.

I tried to install data recovery app Photo Recover (and a few others) and it recovered about 3000 deleted images which were deleted a long time ago, but not the photos that went missing the other day.

I tried to find the nomedia file using file manager but could not find it. It was mentioned in some forum as an advice to find lost photos.

Where are my photos?

Can Google recover my photos?

When I type a description to add to my photos, it disappears.  If I look at another photo, then come back to the original photo with the description added, that description is no longer there. 
If I write a description for one photo, that same description often shows up on several nearby photos, even if they are of a completely different subject.
If I write a description for a photo, then move on and write a different description for a different photo -- this new description sometimes replaces ALL of the descriptions that were previously written on each of the nearby photos. 
Most of the time, none of these descriptions follow the photo's info into the cloud and then back down to my other devices.  Names, titles, dates, descriptions, all have to be input manually -- all over again.
I'm not finding a SAVE button to click on.  I'm not finding a DONE Checkmark to click on.
Everything seems subject to change on some kind of whim.

The following possibilities would arise once you cancel the subscription.
 
Scenario 1. you have brought down the space occupied on Google Drive to less than 15 GB before cancelling the subscription. 
  • You continue to have uninterrupted access to Gmail, Google Drive & Google Photos.
Scenario 2. You cancelled the subscription but occupied more than 15 GB of space on Google Drive.
  • You stop getting emails.
  • You can't upload any new documents & photos to Google Drive & Google Photos.
  • However, you can delete the content from Gmail, Google Drive & Google Photos.
Nevertheless, if you do not access your account for two years, Google will purge the entire content & remove your ID.
