Do you mean that your partner still sees shared photos on top in the "Sharing" tab, but no recent photos? I would try in the web app, preferably on a computer. Is there a difference?

Did you also check in the web app? That would help to find out whether the issue is at the back end (Google) or front end (user). 

You could clear cache and data, but clearing data means that they have to be rebuilt, thus not recommended if not needed.

Just after installing a match 4th update (version 5.80.0.432522482) I discovered that the backup and sync option was suddenly on. I did not turn it on manually in the app nor did I interact with any "free up space" options elsewhere in Android. By the time I realized this a large subset of images that I do not want stored anywhere but my phone storage and personal backup was placed in cloud storage and unnecessarily using up Google One quotas. Is having "backup and sync" ON now considered a forced default of some kind?

Android photos app version 5.80.0.432522482 on a pixel 6.

Well... seems like it's time to move away from Google Photos. My free storage has ended and it is the biggest pain to go through every year and delete photos. I've had Google Photos since 2015, and it's time to move away from it.

1. I know, Google Takeout can help me download all photos from my Google Photos storage. However, I've noticed that they come packed with some JSONs containing extra Metadata which I'd like to merge with my existing photos if that's possible. I know how to separate my JSONs from my photos, I use Total Commander to do that. What I'm aiming for is to get that extra Metadata merged into the photo... like merging that data into the photo files.

2. Another question, how does the "slightly reduced quality" compare to the original quality? Will I be able to see any noticeable difference when viewing my photos that have been uploaded with the "slightly reduced quality"?

Any help is appreciated.
