Question: How can i restore my permanently deleted photo

Plz recover my photo

Hi Adil,

Please review the following information in case there are any options you haven't yet tried.

1. Check your online account - photos.google.com
If your photos were successfully uploaded to your online Google Photos account they may be available there. Try visiting photos.google.com and searching for them. If you have more than one Google account, check all of them.

2. Check the trash - photos.google.com/trash
Once you delete photos from your Google Photos account, they're moved to Trash for the next 60 days. If you deleted them by mistake you can always restore them from the Trash folder within those 60 days. Here's the link explaining how to recover them from Trash. If you have more than one Google account, check the trash for all of them.

If you accessed the Trash and manually sent the photos for permanent deletion, or if the 60 days expired, there is no way to recover them from Google Photos

3. Review other options
  • if you previously used Picasa, visit picasaweb.google.com and search for your photos.
  • have you made any backups of the photos on your phone, camera, computer, or elsewhere?
  • there is a small chance that you can restore the photos using a recover deleted photos app (Android). I haven't used them myself so have no specific recommendations. There may well be more app options if you visit the appropriate app store and try other search terms. I don't see any similar apps on the iOS store, but you could check yourself.
  • you can contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Use the Google Drive contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.
  • If you ever shared the photos with anyone else, it's possible they may have a copy they could share back or send to you.

Good luck, and do post again if you need more detail on any of the above points.

Answer:

Hi Mike Nesselbeck
You can clean the application data, it does not hurt, but free up a lot of space. The photos use caching, this is due to the fact that if you have a bad connection with the Internet, then once it appears in good quality, your autobackup files in Photos. Therefore, you can make sure that all files are exactly inside the service, using the browser:
and then clear the data and the cache.
You can free up the  memory space on your device. To do this, you need to do this:
1) Open "Settings" - Applications / Apps - All applications / apps
2) Make a choice for Google Play Services - delete the data.
3) Select Photos - delete the data.
4) Go to "Storage" - delete the cache.
These actions will clear the space and make applications faster.
(* Reminder: This is an option for a device that does not have "root" or "custom firmware")

Answer:

If you wrote that you have a reduced quota on Google Drive, then just make the settings "high quality" and you will have free storage outside the quota in any amount. To compress files into Photos, use the browser, where in the Photos settings in the left panel, select Recover storage
Support

Reduce the size of your photos and videos
If you have photos in Original quality and want to save some space, change your already backed-up photos and videos to High quality. This setting will not appear if you don't have any photos in Original quality.
  1. On a computer, go to photos.google.com/settings.
  2. Click Recover storage. This will not change the quality of your future uploaded

Question: I missing all of my photos and file after mistaken reset my fone,I really need your help please

I need my photos file back from 2017 until 2019..please I really need your help

Hi Emilia,

If you reset your phone, only the images that were backed up and synced to Google Photos will be accessible after a reset.

Make sure you are logged in to the exact same Google Account you used for backup. Make sure the phone is connected to a good WiFi or cell data connection. Launch Google Photos and give the application time to sync the images.

Any locally stored images that were not backed up before you reset the phone, will be lost. If the phone's local memory was overwritten it is unlikely the images can be recovered. Stil you can research third party phone data recovery applications to attempt recovery of locally stored instead that were erased. Typically you attach you phone via USB to a computer, download and install the data recovery application, then attempt to recover images from the phone.

Best wishes

Joe

Question: I got a new phone however my photo and numbers didn't transfer and I kept the same number

How do I get my photos and numbers to go to my new phone I still have the same number

Hi
Keeping the same number alone doesn't necessarily resync the data backed up on your Google Account.

You must log in to the exact same Google Account you used for your Photos and Contacts. If you've created a different account, you can add your previously associated Google account to the phone but going to the phone's Settings > Accounts. If you see the other account then select that and log in to it. If you do not see the account, select the Add Account option and add the account.

Once the account is added and you've logged back in, make sure you have a good wifi or cell data connection. Then open Google Photos. If you have more than one account, go to the left menu and make sure you have the correct account selected in the account switcher area.

I left a job and needed to return my iPhone, so I had the photos backed up to Google Photos. Then I added photos from my current iphone and now I can't find the Google photos from the first phone. Were they deleted ?

Answer:

Hi Michael Burton

First, check your accounts. If you made your photos in a working account, they could remain in it, and the owners of the device and this account have the right to delete your files. If you used a personal account to work on your phone and you do not see your files, then you need to do a check. If, as a result of checking, your files are not detected, it is possible that they were not autobackup inside Google Photos.

Сheck to find your files.

1) Open the Album archive and look at the files there:

2) check via Google Drive: https://drive.google.com

3) check the new Archive inside Photos:

4) check Trash:

I've looked everywhere

I only know the word "Followers" from G+ and that is not relevant anymore because G+ will be closed soon. Maybe you can see them if you select Profile at the bottom. Merely family and friends probably, because you may have used G+ in the past for sharing some albums etc.

But if you are talking about the faces or letters on top a shared album in Google Photos (under the albumname), you can see them under Options via its 3 dots. If you do not recognise some persons, your dear friends may have re-shared your link with their dear friends without asking permission.

Strange - maybe you have no mouse with a scroll wheel - because then you zoom-in immediately.
Else when you move you finger on the touchpad, you shoud see a loupe with a + right up which can be clicked to zoom-in.

I assume that you view https://photos.google.com in a normal browser (Chrome preferably).

I've tried opening google photos and do not see my picassa photos synced, although google indicates that the photos should already be there. I've tried accessing them through the google album archives link and they are not there. I can't log onto picassa anymore, I'm being redirected to google photos. The photos I'm missing were online on Picassa, not on my desktop app. Please help, very sentimental photos have been lost and I am at a loss as to what I can do to recover them!!!

Answer:

The connection between Picasa (the photomanager on your computer) and Google Photos is broken last year, so you can't sign-in anymore and you can't upload your new pictures to Google Photos anymore unless via workarounds.

You also may have older ("sentimental") album on the web at https://get.google.com/albumarchive when you log-in with the account you have used in the past. That may differ from the account you are using now on your smartphone for using https://photos.google.com/albums and that maybe the reason that you don't see the old albums there because they are stored in a different account.

Changes at Google but also changes at your side always cause a lot of confusion.
Good luck

Hi,

I'm looking for advice about the correct way to manage my photos from multiple sources.

I have a paid for google drive subscription, and my intention is that i will store all of my photos in their original size in google drive. My google drive is sync'd to my Synology NAS for a belt and braces backup.

I have multiple android smart phones and digital cameras.

The android smartphones all automatically back up, all of the photos are shown in google photos, google drive and on the NAS.

The camera gets periodically attached to my computer, the photos are sorted into the sync'd folder on the NAS and they automatically get uploaded to Google Drive. All devices can see the photos in Google Drive. None of them can see these photos in Google Photos.

Obviously i am getting this last step wrong, so what is the correct way to do this step in the future and what is the best way to get all of the old photos that are correctly stored, to display in Google Photos without creating gigabytes of duplicates?

Thanks
D

Answer:

Hi Dicki,

It is possible that you will have to use a different folder structure if you are uploading your photos to the Google Photos folder.

This is a recent change and we have not been given a reason by Google but it is a change which has been suggested by users to help remove any confusion betwen the two streams, Google Photos folder for downstream, and the example of Uploaded Photos folder for uploads,

Regards, Peter

Answer:

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the reply, i think that will fix my problem.

Should the "Uploaded Photos" folder appear automatically like the "Google Photos" one did when i selected the photos option in drive? I currently do not have this folder.

Presumably, Google Photos will take whatever i copy into the "Uploaded Photos" folder, index it into google photos and it will then appear in the "Google Photos" folder in the correct sub-folder (assuming all the EXIF data is correct) i guess at the point i can delete things out of the "uploaded photos" folder? or will it sort it out for me?

Thanks
Matt

Answer:

Hi Matt,

The folder name is the one I use, it can be anything you choose.  Anything you upload doesn't actually have a permanent home in Google Photos, for example if you disable the sync to Google Photos then they will be deleted from Google photos and if you subsequently enable the option again they will be copied over again.  If you add any of the photos to Google Photos albums then they are permanently copied to the Google Photos library.

None of the photos you add to Drive will appear in the "Google Photos" folder and will use full storage quota.  If you delete them they will also be deleted from Google Photos.

Sorry it is so complicated, this help article may explain things better,

Regards,
Peter

Answer:

Hi,

I wanted to report back on how it went.

It worked as Peter described in his original post. I have created a new folder added my digital camera photos to it and they have been imported into Google Photos and display in the correct timeline with all of the other photos in my stream.

These photos do not appear in the "Google Photos" folder in drive so there is no duplication.

I also discovered why i got so confused, apparently Google changed the behaviour of Google Drive in November last year. Up until mid November i was using drive as i described in my OP and Google Photos was correctly indexing and displaying my photos. Since November it stopped working like that and changed to the behaviour that Peter described.

Thanks again

Dicki

Hi Natasha,

I’m sorry, it’s not possible to recover photos permanently deleted from the Google Photos Trash. However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps and run a scan for anything to recover.

In addition I recommend that you contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Just open the Google Drive https://support.google.com/drive/?hl=en&authuser=0#topic=14940&contact=1 contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.

I've turned on face recognition after uploading the bigger part of my photo collection. Google only shows results for the photos that are uploaded afterwards. Since nothing happened for a few weeks, I started to wonder if the already existing photos will ever be scanned... Is there anything I can do, besides opening a new account and uploading it all again?

Answer:

All you have to do is wait and see. Google seems to suffer a bit from the success of Google Photos: more functions are slow and seem to get stuck. And since everything is automatic there is nothing you can do. Uploading everything again may or may not help. Turning face grouping off/on helped some, but for others it got worse. It's like gambling.

However my pictures, taken with an iPhone 6S, are still reduced to a tenth of their original size (1.4mb to a 100Kb). On the interwebs I read it should be possible to store images up to a 16mb.

What would be the remedy for this? Would I need to run the whole back-up again to get the photos at the original size as they are on my iPhone?

Answer:

First: it is just vanity to want your iPhone pictures stored in original quality because it is no professional camera.
Secondly: they already may have been compressed on iPhone to 1/10 of their original size by the so-called heic-compression.
Third: probably you have used a wrong download method straight from computerscreen instead of using their 3 dots right up.
You can view their size when you open their infopanel on photos.google.com like shown below:

Rinus, you are not being helpful at all. It is not vanity to want one's photos to be of good quality. I have the same problem.

I know about the information panel - that's how I know that the images are significantly different sizes between my Samsung smartphone and Google photos in my computer.

Photos are over 1MB on my Samsung, and under 500KB once I upload them to Google. Could someone please provide some constructive advice?

@User 9842...

Over 1MB to under 500KB is not unusual for High Quality uploads. I have seen far greater differences on photos and it depends on content.  What I do is compare the photos side by side and I have yet to see any difference in visual quality. I know it is a personal choice, but the notion that physical size is a measure of quality is one that I have never been able to prove.

The question mentions upload settings which are set to original and you should not see any reduction in physical size, and in 5 years of backing up I have never witnessed an example of, so it is a mystery why the photos are reduced in size if the pixel dimensions are the same in both places!
