No bug, the zero value shows you are not using any of the free 15GB storage allocation. All photos uploaded in High Quality were free, uploads in Original or Storage saver should register.

But in fact, have been storing all the photos with "Original Quality". 
I there a way to check whether the photos which are currently stored in the google photos are actually using  "Original quality" or "Storage Saver"?

The only way to compare is to check the size of the uploaded photo and the computer original, unless you have an iPad or iPhone where the quality is viewable in the mobile app.
 
Everything uploaded since June 1st should use storage and those settings are for web uploads only.
 
The best way to check is to upload some photos at https://photos.google.com/ using the upload command, then go to https://photos.google.com/quotamanagement where the amount of storage should show under the storage summary. If you have any photos >5MB they should also show under Large photos

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.

I understand and I know how important Google Photos is for you. This usually happens when the photos aren't completely backed up or in the process of getting backed up. Hence, please ensure that the backup is complete.

If yes, please give the below steps a try in a sequence to help resolve the issue:
  • Check your internet connection (mobile data).
  • Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
  • Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
  • Clear App data:
    • Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
    • Touch Apps.
    • Select Google Photos in the list.
    • Touch Clear data.
  • Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
    • Visit the Google Play Store.
    • Open Google Photos.
    • Touch on Update.

If you read his post, it's NOT that the photos aren't being backed up. The OP is saying that he deletes the photo at Photos.google.com, but it's still on his phone, visible in the photos app. I have this same problem. Is there a solution other than clearing the Data from the app? Because when I do that the phone gets stuck in "Getting you photos" for a while... and then when it's done... They are still on my phone. Ugh.

I am having the same problem, but instead of wanting photos deleted from Google Photos online deleted off my phone too, I cannot get photos edited online to update/sync the phone version.

When I edit a photo using the Google Photos app on the phone, the edited version is stored in a PhotosEditor folder on the phone.  When I edit the photo online with Google Photos, I can browse on my phone to the edited copy using Chrome at photos.google.com, but the edited copy does not show in any of the device Gallery folders or in the Google Photos app.  Also, if I select Google Photos from the Instagram drop-down menu, it downloads a (probably temporary) of the copy of the edited version then uploads it to Instagram.

Weirdly, if Google Photos backs up a photo downloaded into a Gallery subfolder like Facebook folder, I can edit the backed-up photo online then see the edited version in the subfolder on the phone, but not for a photo that is from the primary Camera folder.  Of probably important note, but I'm not sure why significant, my device is set up to store camera photos to SD card, but the PhotosEditor and Facebook folders actually show up in phone's File Manager as internal storage\\DCIM\\ folders not on the SD card. Maybe there's a rights issue with syncing to the SD card vs syncing to the device internal storage?

I did the above recommended clearing of the app data and thought it was getting stuck on Backing Up Photos, but it finally finished and didn't send online updates to phone device.... Also, the reason I say the Instagram copy is probably temporary is because after I cleared the app data (didn't check before), I cannot find the edited version in any folder of the phone's internal memory....

Same here. Big changes to data in Google cloud storage are not reflected on Lenovo tablet. 
Even that would be fairly simple. Too simple. 
SOME of the changes are synced, in one Google account.
But not changes to a different account.

Use face groups to more easily search and manage your photos. After you apply a label to someone, you can search for them using that label. Note that this feature is not available in all countries.

All of a sudden, a YEAR worth of G+ posted images are not visible in G Photos. That stream is my portfolio, was to be searchable for images I have posted, with Assistant as well. They are gone. They show up in G+ stream, but as before, I have to be able to see them in Photos as well. 
If I PAY for this service, how come I am not getting what I signed up for? Is there a fix?

Hello Nina,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Forum.

I understand and I'll be happy to help. It can be possible that the photos weren't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon  (which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.

Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.

In case, you are uploading a large amount of data (photos/videos), please know that it might take 24-48 hours for the photos and videos to sync across all devices. Please ensure to have 'Backup & sync' enabled on the Google Photos settings while you're backing up your photos and videos. To check is the content is backed up, login in to photos.google.com to checked for your backed up photos and videos. 

However, if you're sure they were backed up, I recommend you looking for your video here:

If a photo/s is deleted from Google Photos, it would go to Trash/Bin for the next 60 days (after deletion). Unfortunately, if the photos aren't found in Trash or deleted from Trash, I'm afraid, you might not find them else where to recover them because Trash is the last resort to retrieve your lost/deleted photos.

Meanwhile, also try giving the below steps a try once again in a sequence to help resolve the issue:

There can be multiple reasons for the backup not to happen.
 
# The quantum of photos to be backed is high.
# Insufficient free space on the phone for the app to work.
# WIFI connectivity is intermittent. Too many devices on the same router are restricting the bandwidth.
# Download & upload speeds are too asymmetric.
# Google Photos app is not allowed to use:-
  • Data in the background
  • Mobile data
  • Mobile data while roaming
# Activation of data saver through the settings.
# Putting a limit on the daily use of mobile data through the settings in the app.
# Putting a limit on the use of total data in a month through the settings in the phone.
# Activating battery saver or super saver mode.
# Existence a zero byte file in the collection. 
# Bloatware on the phone interfering with the smooth working of apps.
# Too many apps running in the background.

I've recently uploaded about 2,500 photo's and 170 videos (1080p) that typically run 2-3 minutes from my iPhone.  The first minute or so of video replay is usually perfect - until a number of videos start exhibiting a variety of flashing (compression?) artifacts.  Parts of the screen may become blocky for a few seconds, small parts of some apparently random image may flash over a small are of the video, there may be a brief image distortion appearing as a ripple in the image.  A few frames simply erupt into a colorful full-screen mosaic.  There's not necessarily a lot of motion in the video when these happen.  Here's what I've learned so far:

1.  I've replayed the videos on both a Chromebook and a Windows 10 PC; the artifacts are always identical, indicating that the Google video files are corrupt.

2.  The initial upload began fast enough but, as others have reported, slowed to a crawl before it completed, adding perhaps three 12MP images in the final hour.  I speculate that we're seeing Google throttle storage allocations for the obvious reason that even their resources are finite.  Perhaps this start-stop throttling triggers problems in the compression software? 

3.  The videos remain on the iPhone for now and render perfectly when played using the Google Pictures app.  It seems the app is smart enough to play local copies when present to reduce network overhead.

4.  I've uploaded the same videos to my Amazon account, their playback renders perfectly.  Unfortunately the video capacity included with a Prime account is limited to 5GB, thus the desire to opt for Google.

5.  I haven't found other community posts complaining of Google video artifact problems, perhaps mine was an unusual transient issue that occurred as the files were uploaded.  Either way it's unlikely Google will provide a quick fix.  The logical next step would be to simply delete and reload the damaged files.

6.  Unfortunately, when a corrupt item is deleted from Google Photos, the app forces deletion of the intact master from the iPhone.  (I'd love to hear Google's business rationale for that decision!)  Yes, I can recover the video from "Trash\

Hi Michelle, to remove selected photos, open the photo full screen and tap the 3 dot menu to choose Delete device original. You can also select multiple photos from the Photos tab and do the same.
This will put the photos in the Apple Photos Recently Deleted folder where they will stay for 30 days or until you manually delete them, Regards, Peter
