Question: How do I make an animation go slower

Slow down animations

Hi, Cheryl delong

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your post.

Regretfully, although Google Photos allows composing of Animations, aka GIFs, there is no utility to edit or change the speed once created.

Nevertheless, you can find many free & valuable utilities on the web like Ezgif.

Google Photos app can't access data on a USB.
You have to copy the video to the phone's memory or SD card & play that.

Does anyone know how to manage the "Other" use of iPhone Storage? It has skyrocketed from nothing to 30 GB after I backed up my photos with Google Photos app. What is that? My storage is almost full and i am going bananas over that! Please advise. Thanks

Answer:

Hi Mauro, it might be a temporary situation if you have Optimised storage set in iCloud. Apple has to pull the full sized images from the cloud to pass on to Google Photos. It should go down again gradually after backing up is complete, Regards, Peter

Answer:

Hi, PeteranDi, thanks for the tip. I hope you are right.
But at the same time I've uploaded all my photos and the app is taking now 4 days to upload 133 videos left. (Those are all my iPhone says are left). But each time I am on wifi and check the app, it says there are 200 plus items to backup. Can't figure why, as I did not acquire new photos or any other kind of image or video. Can you explain that, for it is something that does not make sense at all. Thanks for the help.

Answer:

Hello again, sorry I didn't give you the full explanation as I was not at my PC. I have pasted a previous user's explanation below as it covers the points fully.

I've been using Google Photos and iCloud Photos together for a while so I have some experience with this.

The two services play nicely together. The best option is to keep iCloud Photos turned on, along with optimize storage. Then install Google Photos and start the sync. Here's what happens.

At the beginning, there are (let's assume) no full-size photos on your phone, only in iCloud. Google Photos goes through every photo in your library, and wants to upload it. It requests the full-size photo from iCloud, which downloads to your phone and gets cached on the device. Then the full size photo is uploaded to Google, and Google Photos moves on to the next one. It keeps doing this until it's gone through all your photos.

The optimize storage setting is doing what it's supposed to do. At some point when the phone fills up, it will begin removing photos again like before. Let's say for example (using not real numbers) you have 5GB of free space on your device, which is enough to hold 500 images. Google Photos will download those 500 images from iCloud and upload to Google, then iCloud will see you're out of space and remove those images, and move on to the next batch of 500.

Google Photos and iCloud Photos don't really talk to each other much, all of this stuff just happens in the background automatically. When Google Photos asks for a photo, iCloud knows it needs to download it first so it does. Then when your phone fills up it knows it needs to clear off space.

It should pretty much manage itself without needing to do much. When you're totally done syncing with Google, you can just leave your phone and let iCloud delete the downloaded photos when it needs space.

Answer:

You sir have saved me a lot of time searching the internet for an explanation. Thank you so much.

After your explanation I decided to manually take all photos out of icloud through icloud web and put them on google photos and then turn off backup & sync on google photos to stop causing this mess. So everytime my phone is loaded with photos I'll just go ahead and do the manual process again meanwhile I can safely browse the photos in google photos on my phone since backup & sync is off.

iPhone6 16gb owner.

Answer:

Oddly enough I have a different storage problem. I have been using google photos for many years and currently have 77GB of space used.  I recently transferred all these pictures over to iCloud and apple says I am using 140GB of photo storage. Why is apple almost double the size of google?  I have checked and no duplicates and nothing in my trash can.

However, regretfully, the video player in Google Photos doesn't offer any feature to adjust the speed of the video.
You will have to look for some proprietary video player like VLC.

Question: Cant hear audio

I cant hear the video audio

Hi, Newphone Phone

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your post.

There can be multiple reasons for the video not producing any audio.
  • You may not have allowed your camera app to access the microphone on your device.
  • The audio codec encoded by the camera app may not be compatible with Google Photos.
  • You may have muted the video, or the volume may be too low.
Can you verify these possibilities?

Nevertheless, can you try installing some different video player app like VLC & see whether that outputs the audio?

All of a sudden and for no apparent reason (I made no changes), the photos and videos taken on my phone appear twice on my Google photos app. Why? How can I fix this?

Answer:

Hi, Ysa Rodriguez

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your post.

Google Photos never uploads the same picture multiple times.
What we see as duplicates have some differences in file format or metadata.
Additionally, if you have activated Raw + JPEG capture or bracketing in your phone app, that would create duplicates.

Regrettably, Google Photos doesn't provide any means to remove the apparent duplicates. You have to search those manually.

However, you will find some tips in the following article compiled by experts with comprehensive experience on how to avoid duplicate photos & how to remove those.

Question: Hide faces who can find

Photos

Hi, akhila gajula

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your post.

First, ensure you have the latest updated version of the Google Photos app.

Next, to unhide a person, follow these steps.
  • Tap the search icon at the bottom.
  • Tap view all to see the thumbnails of all the persons in people & pets.
  • Tap the three dots at the top right corner
  • Tap on the menu "Hide & show". Please note this menu works like a toggle. If you tap once, the hidden faces become visible. If you tap a second time, then the person will hide again.
  • Now you will see all the hidden persons with a symbol of eye & a slash across that.
  • Tap on the eye once. Please note, the eye icon also acts as a toggle. Tap once, the person will be unhidden. Tap a second tome & then the eye will reappear, hiding the person once again.
  • Once the eye symbol is gone, the person's thumbnail will become visible again.
Alternatively, you can try to do so through another route.
Please enter the link https://photos.google.com/people in the web browsers available on your phone. Next, log into your account & see whether the show & hide option becomes visible through the browser.
