If you already deleted them from the trash they are permanently deleted; they are only recoverable in 60 days if they are still in the trash.

You can try a few options that might help recover some but not 100% guaranteed.

• Contact the Google Drive team and say you want to recover files - click on the contact us option on this link.
• You can try using a third party photo recovery app at this point to try to recover some of what was lost from your phone - just type photo recovery into the play store and see what options are available. I can't recommend any as haven't used one personally but some people do have success that way.

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your post.

 

The free up option removes the originals of pics from the phone.

That creates space to capture new photos.

Restoring the backed up pictures would be defeating the whole purpose of the free up space exercise.

 

To bring back the pics to your phone's gallery either, you can download photos one by one.

Regrettably, there is no option to download the photos in bulk.

 

Alternatively, you can install the Google One app. There is a one time option to restore up to two hundred most recent photos to the device.

However, that will not restore the local folder structure.

There is no requirement to join Google One. The option is available to everyone. 

However, the method may not be helpful to recover something when the count is more than two hundred.

 

Or, you can arrange for a bulk download by visiting the link https://takeout.google.com/.

Select the Google Photos app for data download.

Once the file is ready, you will get an email. Access that & unzip all the attachments into your phone's gallery. However, you have to ensure your phone has free space more than the size of the downloaded zip file.

 

That will bring everything to your phone.

I've recently just got a new phone exactly the same, I've set it up fine but my memory card (storing 1300 pics) was reading an error. So I removed the card and went back on to one drive to see that not only has my memory card file gone but around 8000 photos I uploaded onto it last night. I've looked for help anywhere and sadly can't see anyone with similar issue I never clicked on anything, everything was on after I set it all up until I removed the card. I've got some stuff still on my drive but 90%less than what I had 2 hours ago. 

Someone please please help it's years worth of content that can never be replaced.
