My phone turned off earlier (not sure if it was an update) and I've just noticed that loads of my photos dating back MONTHS have all been duplicated.

Any idea what's going on? If I delete the duplicates, not only will I be there days, but will I risk loosing the originals if this is an error?

Answer:

Hi, Kasia Mola

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your post.

Google Photos never uploads the same picture multiple times.
What we see as duplicates have some differences in file format or metadata.
Additionally, if you have activated Raw + JPEG capture or bracketing in your phone app, that would create duplicates.

Regrettably, Google Photos doesn't provide any means to remove the apparent duplicates. You have to search those manually.

However, you will find some tips in the following article compiled by experts with comprehensive experience on how to avoid duplicate photos & how to remove those.

Jacki,
If photos from one device are not showing up using the Google Photos app on another device there are 2 possible reasons:
  • The devices are viewing different google accounts
  • The photos from one device did not get backed up to Google Photos
To check it out go to a web browser and open Photos.Google.com - log in with each Google account you may have and see what photos are there. That will show you what photos have been uploaded.
To check out what account is being used on your phone or tablet,
  1. open the app and tap the account button in the upper right
  2. The top line will show what account is being displayed
Hope that helps

Hello,

I deleted my photos off my camera roll on my iPhone as they were 'backed up' on my google photos. I cleared them out my recently deleted.

Later in the day I went to go onto google photos and all the photos have deleted until November 2020. I'm gutted. I was under the impression if they are showing on my google photos they were backed up which obviously wasn't the case.

Is there any way to reinstate these photos, as you can imagine it's very heartbreaking to see all these memories disappear.

Kind regards,

Naomi
