My wife accidentally deleted all the photos on her phone from the my files app.  She has a samsung galaxy and typically only looks at the gallery app.  I pulled up the Google photos app and all the photos and videos are there except for December till now.  Why is the most recent photos and videos missing.  Is it because it has not been backed up yet

I got a notification saying my storage is almost full in photos and gmail. I've spent ALL DAY deleting literally THOUSANDS and thousands of photos out of Google photos and emails out of Gmail. And now it's saying "storage full" and that I need to buy more storage !! ??? I don't understand because I've made sure to delete everything out of trash as well? Is anyone else having this problem??

This is a general complaint, but instead of ruïning your backup you simply should have started paying via one.google.com/storage because using Google Photos is not for free since June 1 anymore as you were informed via Gmail. 

But I don't know the reason why you have exceeded your 15 GB free limit now: did you have started to shoot more movies perhaps? Or did you have stored a lot of pdf-files on Drive? 

 

Apart from that, most likely everything from before June 1 was not counted if uploaded at high quality. 

So that is why deleting old stuff does not make any difference. 

But you also may have chosen to sync from Photos to Drive before 2019 and then the content there, suddenly is using space now. Check your Drive-app if there is a Google Photos tab under the 3 small lines: then everything there should be deleted also, including the trash in Drive. 

Hopefully this helps a bit, but then you still will need to start paying in this year or you must stop backing-up towards Google Photos completely. But then you need another way of creating a backup, unless your stuff has no value at all. 

 

PS: cleaning-up old years from Gmail is wise always, but should be done under All mails because there is your mailarchive. 

 

PS: if most old photos were on still on phone, you may have deleted these also. Hopefully you have copies on your computer (maybe synced via Google Drive - so take care).

I've recently damaged my iphone and am looking to recover the photos on it. I had the google photos app installed and set to backup to my account. I didn't have enough storage to back it all up. The phone still turns on and charges, so I'm wondering if I buy additional storage will the photos from the damaged phone back up to the account automatically, and if not is there a way I can force it to from another device synced to the same account.

Free-up cleans your phone only, not your space at Google. So if you want to go on for safety reasons mainly (or for sharing neat albums), you can't avoid paying via one.google.com/storage 

You only can use less space at Google for Photos if you have chosen the storage saver quality in your backupsettings. But Gmail and Drive also use space at Google.

21 MB is nothing - maybe a very short movieclip or 5 normal camera-images. 

Or some mysterious remains of having used some pictures for Hangouts etc. 

Or some attachment-files accidently stored on Drive. 

Don't bother, but see one.google.com/storage

A few Gmails will take more space.
