I am trying to load photos from a sandisk to my MacBook. Apple sold me a product that is supposed to do this - the book has only one port and no place for a sandisk to plug in. I have loaded the sandisk into the gizmo and plugged it into the MacBook.  I don't see any evidence that it had loaded photos to photo.google or anywhere else. What to do now?

Double-check the last date of the photos added to the video.  It is likely that the video has been dated with the latest (or earliest in some cases) date from the photos and there is where you will find it in chronological order.

Thanks. There are only 4 movies in the movie folder, so it is easy to tell that it is not there.  2 movies were small tests of the movie that I created. BTW, the movie I created was made up of videos and photos. It seemed to take quite a while for the save to progress. I left it saving and went to bed. In the morning, I searched for it and could find nothing.

Thanks for the additional information.  I'm curious now if it actually saved at all given the "long time to save" comment.

Have you tried to recreate it or tried to create a new movie?  Maybe a short one just to verify that things are indeed working properly with your account?  I've not seen any other users with the issue so I don't think (at least at this point) it is an overall issue with Photos.

If I look on google app on phone, I can see the device folders.  But if I look at google photos on my computer, no albums appear there.  Do I have to recreate these albums in google app and search and move thousands of pictures individually?  Or is there a way to share or copy the device folder to a google album so I can see albums on my computer?

When uploading the photos online, Google Photos doesn't preserve any organization of the photos into folders on a device, regardless of whether the folders are accessible in Google Photos itself or other apps.
 
Therefore, in Google Photos you unfortunately need to manually organize the photos into albums, not folders.

I think that the easiest way to get them in albums is:
  • Go to a device folder in the Google Photos app
  • Select all photos (or recent ones for an update)
    When you accidentally select photos already added to the album, they will be skipped
  • Tap +
    • Tap Album for a new album
    • Tap on an existing album to add photos

Mysterious, but quite likely the picture is not on your phone at all, but in your Google Photos cloud only due to some saved sharing. Best to hide that unwanted picture by selecting and then choosing Archive under the 3 dots. Maybe you will understand its origin in future and then you still can go to court with your phone and show your Archive via the Library-page in the Photos-app.

That asks for some more detailed information. Photos do not disappear by "looking at them" or by using "Add to library". 

A wild guess: did you do the following:
  1. Open the album
  2. Click the "Add to album" icon (mountain and +)
    That brings you to the library where the photos that are in the album are selected. Deselecting them will remove them from the album!  I find that very confusing. Nothing warns you that photos will be removed from the album. If you want to add photos, you better select them first, then click "Add to". 
"Is there a way to go back to an old version of the album or find where they went?"
There is NO way to restore an album, but the photos should still be in the library https://photos.google.com/.

I wanted to look at some videos of my son I made in 2013, but they don't play (keeps buffering). When I try to download the videos I get a message that the site is unavailable, that the webpage is temporarily disabled of permanently moved to a new webadres. I can't play those videos on my phone either, tried everything, clearing cache and data.... I don't have a backup of these videos because I thought google would store them indefinitely. Does google remove videos after 5 years?

I'm having this same problem! I was on vacation and took a bunch of videos of the trip and downloaded them all onto google photos because I THOUGHT they'd be safe. I was able to view and download them a couple weeks ago now I can't. I'm super frustrated because I want to post them on YouTube to show friends and family but unfortunately I can't. Whenever I hover over the video with my mouse, they start playing. But, I click on them and they just sit there and buffer. I left it on overnight and it was still buffering the next day. I tried to download and it gave me this message:
This page isn't working
video-downloads.googleusercontent.com is currently unable to handle this request.
HTTP ERROR 500
Also doesn't work on my iPhone and I've tried many different browsers.

Yeah, it's really sad because I'll never be able to play those videos again. No response from Google, so I guess there really must be something wrong with Google photos that they can't fix.
Our problem is a little different though, because those 2013 video's do nothing when I hover over them with my mouse. They don't even buffer.
My other videos have the same problem as you described. I can download them, then they play fine, but they won't play from Google photos.
