Why when photos are moved to albums do they still remain in the general photos section? In essence they are NOT BEING MOVED to albums but are really being COPIED to albums. This creates a nightmare when trying to figure out what photos have already been moved to albums or not.

Hi,

Thanks for posting in the Photos Community.

Google Photos does not understand albums as folders.  The best way to think of them is as a label, much like Gmail.  If you put a photo in an "album" it is essentially tagging or grouping that into a label group.

The general photo library will always show all the photos in your library (unless you archive them) even if they are in albums.  So they are not copied or duplicated in your library and the album.

Can you first please check that you have Backup and Sync turned on, on your iPhone?

1. Open the Google Photos app .
2. Sign in to your Google Account.
3. At the top, tap Menu .
4. Select Settings   Back up & sync.
5. Tap "Back up & sync" on or off.

If you see a message asking to allow the app to access your photos:

1. Open the iOS settings app  tap Privacy  Photos.
2. Turn on Google Photos.

This is important. You will need to give your phone access in order for the app to function. 

 

Change the setting (optional) to back up on mobile data:

If you don’t want to wait for Wi-Fi to back up your photos, under “When to back up”, tap Use cellular data to back up photos or Use cellular data to back up videos. Charges from your service provider may apply if you upload using your mobile network.

 

Then open the app and check if you're photos and now syncing:

1. Open the Google Photos app .
2. Sign in to your Google Account.
3. Tap Photos .
4. At the top, you'll see if your photos are backed up, or if it's still waiting to back up.

First, ensure you have the latest updated version of the Google Photos app.

 

Next, to unhide a person, follow these steps.

• Tap the search icon at the bottom. 
• Tap view all to see the thumbnails of all the persons in people & pets.
• Tap the three dots at the top right corner 
• Tap on the menu "Hide & show". Please note this menu works like a toggle. If you tap once, the hidden faces become visible. If you tap a second time, then the person will hide again.
• Now you will see all the hidden persons with a symbol of eye & a slash across that. 
• Tap on the eye once. Please note, the eye icon also acts as a toggle. Tap once, the person will be unhidden. Tap a second tome & then the eye will reappear, hiding the person once again.
• Once the eye symbol is gone, the person's thumbnail will become visible again.

Alternatively, you can try to do so through another route.

Please enter the link https://photos.google.com/people in the web browsers available on your phone. Next, log into your account & see whether the show & hide option becomes visible through the browser.
