  • When trying to recover your account, use the device and location that previously worked when accessing the account.
  • Do not try to recover while using VPN (Virtual Private Network).

But trying to zoom my browser (Chrome 97) on photos.google.com is like a bad joke. The thumbnails resize at a different proportion than the rest of the page components: a 200% magnification only increases image thumbnail size to 164%. This gives the effect of shrinking images as the page gets zoomed in. What gives?

I would like to synch my "Screenshots" folder to the cloud, as some of the screenshots I take are important or I want to keep them for some other reason. Unfortunately, when I share a specific folder, Google Photos adds them to the "feed" (meaning the "photos" tab where I see all my images and the dates etc).
This is annoying because it clocks my nice image feed.
Additionally, I have my photos shared with my partner and he doesn't want to or need to see the screenshots folder.

Is there any way to synch a specific folder WITHOUT adding it to the main foto feed and without sharing it with my partner?

You are the victim of two large companies with small brains: "Samsung" who has put the screenshot folder in the DCIM-folder and Google who has named this folder "Camera" and syncs all what is in that folder. So you can't prevent what is happening, but you can hide the screenshots in the mainstream by archiving them. Then they are stored safely and can be viewed via the Archive-button on the Library-page of the Photos-app. 
But I am not sure if that will solve the problem for your partner because new screenshots may have been automatically saved in his library before you have archived them. Unless he switches-off auto-saving and select themselves which photos he want to save. 
For creating new albums for sharing you simply can avoid selecting these screenshots.

Then the "achiving-tric" certainly will work, because your partner will not see them anymore. 
The tric also works for secundary pictures you want to keep without disturbing your mainstream-view.

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your post.
 
The editor in the Google Photos app allows corrections in the orientation of pictures.
To do so, please follow these steps through the phone app.
  • Tap to open the picture
  • Tap on the edit icon below the picture
  • Tap on menu option Crop.
  • Tap on the rotation symbol for achieving a turn through ninety degrees. Each successive tap will add ninety degrees going through 90 -> 180 -> 270 -> and again back to 360 degrees. 
  • That will help you correct sideways or upside-down orientations.
  • If you wish to fine-tune, move the slider above the rotation symbol. That helps in correcting slight misorientations at an increment of one degree.
However, if the pics captured through your camera need rotation correction, I suggest you either reinstall the camera app or seek the help of some repair technician.
 
However, if you do not find the rotate symbol ( ) in the edit menu, please provide a screenshot.

For what reason you want to do that? 
Your pictures are sorted on their dates only - Google Photos can't sort on filenames and that is the reason they can't be changed in bulk - that only can be done efficiently by special software on computer for thousands. 
So forget about unless for a few - then you may use the Google Files app. 
Just for sending a few per mail. 
The files which already are stored in Google cloud will not get changed by this action.
