I recently tried to take down all of my photos from Google Photos to put them on my PC. I downloaded them in 500 batch chunks from Google Photos through Google Chrome. I managed to get 10,167 photos from Google Photos to my PC. I then went through and painstakingly selected all of the photos so I could see how many were in my Google Photos account and compare that to how many I downloaded. I have 10,167 on my PC and 10,176 on my Google Photos account.

Sorry, no better tips, but takeout isn't too bad if you extract all the contents of the zip folder then search for *.jpg then move or copy them to another folder. There may be duplicates if any are also in albums, or any the same filename.
