Tried using AirPlay through Apple TV and discovered Google Photos wasn't mirroring and the same occurred when iPad or iPhone was connected through HDMI.  I taught a Google Photos class last October and did not notice a problem.  We are using a document camera as a workaround and I will try using Teamviewer.  All that shows is the Google Photos icon or if you select a photo, a single photo will be displayed.  I found a forum of instructors who discovered this occurred in April 2018.  I did not notice it until now, Feb. 2019.

Probably the same problem with Chromecasting instead of using Apple-TV. 

Or too old devices. 

Maybe a simple Android tablet will do better, but even then the quality will be detoriated due screenmirroring instead of streaming like with Youtube.

You are unreasonable because free-up spacing is used to clean-up your phone and maybe that was needed urgently. Thus your gallery is empty for a while. 

But you can view all in the Google Photos app if you are logged-in correctly, so there is no need to want them back and there is no simple way to do that either. And if you need one for some social media app, you can select and download that one back to phone. 

You may install the Google One app for free for a while to get 200 recents back - probably they all will go in the folder named Restored (wrongly named "album" in your gallery). 

And you should ask Google to be more clear via the feedback option under your profile, because you have been fallen in the same pitt thousands have fallen before.

I know this is posted several times on the help site, but can someBody give me a straight answer as to why Google Photos does NOT have the right date/time on images when downloading using the Backup and Sync tool?!

I am trying to transfer photos from my account to my machine for backup purposes (I'm old school and want my pictures locally, sorry) but the dates and times are all wrong!

Any suggestions along with an answer for the above question?

You can't expect any explanation for that problem without telling us about the origin of these pictures. 

If many did came from messengers like Whatsapp, these always seem to loose their dates at downloading due to incorrect design of such apps.  

There is no reason to suspect your way of downloading, but it is an incorrect way because the downloaded pics stay in sync with the originals on Google Photos via the Google Photos folder on Drive - so you can't break that connection without loosing everything. At least I don't know how to do that without any riscs. 

The normal and non-syncing way of downloading is by selecting groups of about 500 on https://photos.google.com and then select Download all to get a large zip folder. Etc. 

But even then the dates will be wrong probably. Just try a few individuals. 

Wait for other and maybe better comments here - you are now on top again.

Not sure if this a better comment or not, but as Rinus explains the date and time used depends on the image type, and the program you are using to view them, along with the type of computer you have.

 

As far as I am concerned there is not such thing as Photos having incorrect file dates/time. All images downloaded will be given file dates according to the download date as they are effectively newly created files on the computer. Correctly formatted Photos have embedded data referring to the date and time taken and this is used by some programs to display in the correct order.  Other programs may use the Modified date, while others may use the system file created date. A lot depends on the detail which needs explaining.  We are happy to help if you can give us more information or share an example or two,

So, let me further explain. Basically, the dates and times for the photos and videos are correct when looking through Google Photos.

When I started using the Backup and Sync tool, I noticed:
-It only downloads maybe 2-3GB or photos (I have 60GB+)
-Dates and Times for the images are wrong (when checking the properties of the file)

I tried saving the images from the photos app to my iPhone, error's out every 100 pictures or so. I still have my Pixel 2 XL, I will try and download to there tonight and post how it goes.

Downloading using the Backup and Sync tool, I assume via the Google Photos folder, will only capture photos uploaded direct to Google Photos via the Web interface and Mobile uploads  It does not capture photos uploaded with the Backup and Sync tool and older Picasa synced albums. Also if ever removed it will only populate with new photos from that date.

Attempting to download 60GB to your iPhone or Pixel is a mammoth task outside the capabilities of iOS or Android.  Any downloads will appear in a disorganised state in the Pixel because it cannot manipulate the dates for display purposes. If you do manage to download everything you may have to reset tho Photo app so that it realigns with the web version. 

Unfortunately there is no method built in to Google Photos to achieve bulk downloading. There is an unofficial method which uses the shared library function.

Which type of computer do you have, and do you have a screenshot illustrating the file properties you are checking.

Unfortunately, I am in the office until 4:30 EST. I do not have my laptop on me, but it's a Lenovo T450S on Win10 Pro. Basically, I am looking for the best way to download ALL photos/videos from Google Photos and have them retain their metadata. And of course, it's crazy to try and download them to my mobile device, but what other options do I have? 

I have one example, I went and downloaded an image from Google Photos to my iPhone and emailed it to myself. The file shows the correct properties in Google Photos, but I attached an example.

One pictures shows the details of the image from my machine, correct date and time and device it was taken on. The other image is the Google Photos information in the app.

This image came out fine, detail wise. This is not the case when trying to download stuff using the Backup and Sync tool...

I initiated a Google Take-Out for my Google Photo library, hopefully that resolves it.

Any other options?

I would say that the details seen on the PC indicates the UTC time for the photo, the time on the device takes account of the time zone UTC-5 to display in the correct local time.

Takeout contains a lot of redundant information unless you have special program, you can search for *.jpg to copy all the photos to another folder.  If you have Albums you will see a separate copy for each instance in an Album or Albums. A perfectly effective way to download all, just a bit messy at the end, let's see how you go.

There isn't any such known issues with 360 panorama photos. To help you better, could you please let us know, if you're experiencing this issue with photos on your device gallery? If so, I'd suggest you get in touch with your device manufacture for assistance.

If that's not the case and  you're trying to view these photos in Google Photos library, please help us with some sample photos taken in 360 panorama mode. Please don't share any personal or account information when sending the photos.

I have viewed the photographs on my phone using the Gallery and Google Photos. It is the same issue when viewing the photographs in Google Photos on my MacBook so I assume the issue is with the taking of the photographs.
