I have a Pixel 3 XL and I am finding that some pictures are being duplicated in Google Photos without any logical reason. The photos always have two different storage paths:

Original: "IMG_20190201_111624.jpg
Duplicate: "/storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Camera/IMG_20190201_111624.jpg

The photos are identical in all parameters except for the file size: 2.7 MB vs. 3.3 MB. 

I understand that Photos didn't detect duplicates because there is a slight difference in size between the files but I would like to know why a smaller file was ever made to begin with as I didn't edit the pictures?

I read in another post that they are symlinks and that they point to the same location but why would the same file have two different file sizes?

I look forward to any suggestions.

Hello Stu, images that have a path are local images on the device, and those that only have a filename are ones that are on the cloud.
 
Are you seeing duplicate photos inside the Google Photos app on your phone or are you comparing the local version on your phone to the cloud version on the web?

Ahhhh. Then this might be a bug in the app where it's creating a duplicate for some already uploaded photos. You might want to report it by sending feedback under the menu within the Google Photos app.

But I recently had to reset my phone and since then, all the backed up photos have been recovered into the "Camera" folder on my library. While not ideal, the problem arose when all new saved pictures from other apps like Snapchat and Instagram were also being saved in the Camera folder of Google Photos. The stock Gallery application has created default app based folders as Google Photos did prior to the reset, but it has refused to do so and I can't figure out how to turn it back so.

I'ld like to use a photo as an 'avatar' at a Forum. I've tried almost everything that I can come to think about at this point - but still haven't been successful! (It doesn't work to share the photo either straight from Google Photo [as it isn't possible to share it with another site-(adress), nor when downloaded at my computer (and shared from there).
I'm still not at all sure wether creating a link to the photo would work though, and if so how to go about 'that process'. As that I'm not at all sure how to really go about to get that to would work. If that does in fact work that is? 
So - anyway, I'm really at a loss here, and have also tried just about everthing I can think of. 
So, just how do I go about to achieve this? If, indeed it is at all possible of course.
Of course, if you know about any other 'process' that is normally used when you want to make use of an 'avatar' at a forum - I'ld be very glad as well as thankful for any advice in the matter.

The 24.35 GB of storage used in Google Photos must have been backed up or uploaded at some stage or they would not be in Google Photos. Logic dictates that the work email must have been used for that.
 
To remove any doubt, delete the Google Photos app on the iOS device, take a test photo and check at 
https://photos.google.com/ signing with each account in turn to see if the photos appears.
 
I assume you need to transfer the photos to your personal account:- 
 
Once everything is where you need it, reinstall the Google Photos app making sure to leave the backup option disabled.

You can change the date and time stamps for photos and videos using a computer. 
When you change the date and time of your photo, the edited date and time will appear in Google Photos. But if you share it with other apps or download it, it may show the original date and time saved by your camera.
  1. On your computer, go to photos.google.com.
  2. Place your cursor over a photo or video. To select the items you want to update, click Select.
  3. At the top right, click More.
  4. Click Edit date & time. For multiple selections, you will see two options:-
    • To specify a date and time for the first item and automatically adjust the dates and times for the other pics relative to that, click Shift dates & times.

 My intention was clearly to delete the files only from the app and not from the device itself.
 Tonight I walk into the local photo gallery that exists on my device.
 And to my surprise I see that the files have also been deleted from the local storage of the cell phone.
 I definitely did not delete it from my device.
 I urge you to help me, as a matter of fact, there should not be a situation where your app controls me on the device itself.
 The app is only for backup and not to replace the memory itself.
