Since upgrading to a pixel 6 in November my Google photo apps has not backedup automatically.

The Google picture apps show "Setting up your libraries" and when you go into the backup settings it just show backing up.

I have tried resetting my phone, and also tired clearing the cache, stopping the app logging out of my account and resting my phone. When the phone restarts I then add my google account and it syncs photo from November and December ( that I manually uploaded) any new photos are not automatically updated.

Also it is only showing one or two photos for days in the past. For example 25th December 200 only has 2 photos but when using my laptop I can see a lot more.

Any help would be grate

The safest way to delete from Google Photos is to delete the Google Photos app and delete the photos at https://photos.google.com/

The camera roll photos will not be affected.

 

If you need to reinstall the app do not enable Back up & sync.

If I understand correctly, you want to turn off backup and sync and NOT upload photos from your phone to Google Photos. 

If you have Backup and Sync turned OFF and photos are still being uploaded it could be because you are putting the photos into albums. Albums live in the cloud, so if you put pictures into an album they must get uploaded.

I guess I'm having a hard time understanding how Google Photos actually works. Until now I have used the gallery app on my Samsung Android phone to view and manage photos. I recently activated the Google photos app and allowed it to backup my photos online.  That went pretty well (but it refused to backup over cell data even though I changed the setting to allow it). What I don't understand is whether or not there's still just a single copy of each photo physically on my phone?  Are both Gallery and Photos apps that access a single pool of files, or do they each have their own pool?  Meaning if I had 500 photos in my Samsung gallery when I activated Google photos, do I now have an additional 500 files (copies created by Photos when backing up and syncing) stored somewhere on the phone such that I have 1000 files total? I thought it might be a single pool because when I look in the file manager I can only see what looks to be the original copies of my photos. I experimented with deleting a photo from Google photos and it disappeared from the Samsung gallery display.  But when I deleted a photo in the Gallery, it did not disappear from Google Photos?  Can someone explain the file stucture behind the curtain? Thanks!

The issue i am facing is different... when i delete a photo from "Gallery" it still shows in "Photos".... and i do have different folders aside from the camera... 

Do i have to delete it from both, or which one eventually syncs from the other...

That's a bit of a rubbish solution. I really want Google photos to delete a photo when I delete it from the Samsung Gallery app. Otherwise I end up with loads of duplicates backed up that I don't want. Those duplicates / poor shots all show up in the slide show on Google Home Hub.

Based on my experience I confirm that deleting a photo from the Gallery won't delete the photo from Google Photos.
But deleting a photo from Google Photo will delete the photo in the Gallery of your smartphone.
Moreover, and dangerous, suppose you have 3 copies of one photo distributed through 3 different folders in your Gallery: if you delete this photo from Google Photo, it will delete the whole 3 photos in the Gallery of your smartphone !
