Anyway no matter what platform I'm on Facebook, Instagram, text messaging, Messenger.l, when I hit the picture button it just brings up the gallery for the phone so I have to navigate through a ton of prompts to get to my Google photos. When I'm on Facebook and hit the picture button, it doesn't even have an option for Google photos. I've tried permissions and 100 other things that's been suggested on message boards and nothing works. When I'm on any platform at all ever on a Google phone I should be able to hit the picture button & my Google photos should be the first thing that comes up but it does not.
I've never had this problem on my Pixel 2. My Pixel 4a my pixel 5A but now all the sudden. Your latest and greatest phone is the biggest piece of shit ever. Thank you for releasing it to the public before you should have and waste a ton of people's time on your crap ass product. Thank you. Appreciate it, assholes

PS: Having the platform option of Ios/Android/Web and not even windows on the forum for google photo on the backup & sync, make it quite clear that it is a feature that shouldn't exist since they don't consider it as a viable platform!

So here are my need, that I am not sure how to setup:

- I have google drive (setup properly with Backup and Sync from google), that I use to keep a copy of my work files and to share between devices. Of course, I want any possible images of that backup&Sync to be original since it's is for a backup and sync between devices!
-> So far no problems! Except that it cannot convert the files such as .psd to google photos! Well, I don't want all those images to be part of google photos, they are images used on work files, not Photos!!!!

- I would like to specify a specific folder for my photos to be uploaded to google photos so I can view them from any devices and share with friends/family! BUT there doesn't seem to be an option! and it seems that it cannot do that because somehow google photo is NOT a photo services!

So if you have any ideas on how to set-it up. 

Also, any pointers to have my NAS (QNAP) to upload the photos for me would save me a lot of data as I wouldn't have to upload the high res to the NAS for backup and then a lower res to google photos for being able to use the services!

Hard to cover this mix between professional and personal affairs. Unless the personal pictures merely come from smartphones which directly can upload to Google Photos without any connection to PC unless via its webbrowser on /photos.google.com
That part of usage can stay free of charge on high quality level because that is good enough for sharing with family and friends. Forget about syncing to PC or NAS because that is hardly possible anymore unless via OneDrive or Dropbox and manual filemanagement.   

And the files from professional camera can be processed and synced via Backup & Sync with Google Drive without any uploading to Google Photos. That part can't be free of charge because you want original quality and you also want to store non-compatible psd-files. And if you need some picture on Google Photos also, that can be done manually via the new upload from Drive-option in /photos.google.com
And the app also can sync-down to PC what is stored by co-operators on Drive.

There shouldn't be a problem uploading photos to Google Photos, it depends on the configuration and which part of Backup and Sync you are using. If using NAS there is also some information in the Backup and Sync Release Notes see Feb 1st update.
 
You can't choose a folder already being used in Google Drive Sync

Just for info:
- I am almost always on the road abroad so 3/4g and limited data.
- My NAS is, therefore, my 'off-site' backup on landline unlimited internet (replace flickr backup since they changed they offer from 1TB to 1000 photos or so).
- I want google photos to be for high quality (because of unlimited and enough for viewing/sharing, easier to view than using the flickr app as I used to do)
- Photos are personal, 'work' is between video editing/scripts/website etc... so a fair use of image files

So my idea for the NAS is that I use my bandwidth to upload the high res as a backup to it, and it would have been nice to have it do the processing and upload to Photos without 'stealing' my limited data cap.

But despite the fact of all news that google have separated Drive and Photos (good news for me), it is still not possible to have the Drive Sync and Photos backup to be separated.

If I use the Google drive folder (so google drive and not connected PC), then it will upload a lot of unnecessary folders and files (like tmp files and previews) as well as big video files which I don't want them to take all the space. (I do still consider that I will pay for the 100G once I reach the cap, but only if it's actually doing what I want!).
But I can use google photos the way it should work (selecting the folder for the photos and upload them in HQ)

If I use Backup&Sync, then all my work images will be on HQ (not original) and therefore is not a Backup nor a Sync of those files! PLUS I get a lot of unwanted images on my google photos (logos, Ressources etc....)

And if I have to do it manually, then there is no point!

Now that I wrote that, I figured out where the problem is:

There is only one poorly thought software to manages three services:
- Google drive (the google drive folder sync)
- Google Backup (the Computers folder on google drive)
- Google Photos (The backup and sync of photos.

Another clue of the fact that it is this:
"Select to back up only photos or videos, or all files
How about backup only Photos or videos (High quality) for those folders 
and Backup all files for those folders.


So far I thought of using Microsoft OneDrive for the work backup, but the paid offer is not as interesting as google, and all my Docs/Spreadsheets etc are on Google. so it would be too separated. But it would have allows to setup Backup&Drive for Google Photos.

And my main problem is that I still have the Data cap problems of uploading the same file twice (to NAS and to Google Photos)
I do have to look into that sync from drive for google photos, as it may or may not allow me to only upload once if it works as it should?!

- Google photos set to High quality
- Set a folder of the new photos to backup/upload
- Put the photos in Original quality to the drive
- Manually :( get google photos to convert them (will they be converted in High Quality ?!)
- Have the NAS grab the Orgininal photos from the Drive
- Manually delete the photos from the drive once I know it's all done.

Sorry, that complex situation can't be coped on this forum. 

You would have much less problems when you go back to the classic approach with minimised internet and mobile data usage. 
Connect your phone or camera to your laptop to process the pictures like usual and these are stored temporarily on that laptop until you have a good connection. 
Then you can decide what you are going to upload to Google Photos via your browser manually with https://photos.google.com/settings on High Quality. 
Or to Google Drive (that always is full quality) and to NAS. For syncing to Drive you can use Backup & Sync app, but without the uploading to Photos switched-on. 

Sounds all very uncomfortable, but then you will know exactly what you do and that will be much less stressfull. Think about.

To allow the app to backup over mobile data, follow these steps.
  • Tap your profile icon
  • Tap photos settings
  • Tap Backup & sync
  • Scroll down & tap mobile data usage
  • Set daily limit as "Unlimited". Choosing this removes a lot of trouble.
  • Tap the slider in front of "Back up whole roaming". That ensures uninterrupted backup even while roaming.
  • Next, through the settings on your phone, allow the Google Photos app to use internet data in the background.
Once you ensure all these settings, the app will start backing up, uninterrupted.

You can follow these steps to move the pictures to the SD card using the Google Photos app, 
  • Tap on the Library view.
  • Tap the desired folder under Photos on the device.
  • Select photos by long pressing, then tap others after a tick confirms the first selection. You can also long-press and slide down while still in pressed condition to select a range of pictures.
  • Tap the three-dot menu top right
  • Tap Move to folder
  • Tap New SD folder, type a folder name, then tap Create
Note that if the photos are in the Google Photos cloud, this will not remove them from the Photos.
Further, even if you do not select this new SD folder for Backup & sync, any content in that will still be removed if deleted using the Google Photos app.

However, my Pixel 3 does not have an 'upload size' section or option within the Back up & sync screen (or any screen within photos that I can find). The attached image is the entirety of that screen.  If I tap the notification about my upload size and free storage, it just takes me to the above linked help article.  

 The article says I wouldn't have the option if  storage is full but storage is only at 40%.  Despite that, it says the remedy would be "Under Back up at lower resolution, tap Resume Backup." - but there is no 'back up at lower resolution' anywhere on the screen (or any screen within photos) anyways.  

I assume this is some phone specific issue.  Does anyone know how to change image upload quality on a Pixel 3?

I have two Google accounts and it's getting irritating as each account is linked to different apps and Google products so I'm in the process of syncing absolutely everything to just one account and deleting the other altogether. I've managed everything fine apart from with Photos. A couple of issues I'm having are:

1: I've set both accounts up in partner sharing so that everything should be synced. But it isn't. I have 24.2GB  used in the account I want to delete but when it has only syncd 4GB worth of photos and videos. A lot of the files are in 'Large photos and videos' (16GB worth) which I have downloaded manually to my PC and have tried uploading to my other account. Google says it has finished uploading but they don't seem to have appeared. Does anyone know why it hasn't syncd everything? 

2: Shared albums. I've shared the albums I want to keep with the account I want to keep. When I come to delete the account will these albums disappear? Also is there a way to move them from the 'sharing' tab into the 'albums' tab?

The recipient account in Partner sharing does not use any storage for the files shared to it and subsequently Saved to the new account. They must be Saved to stay in the new account after the original account is deleted.
 
With Albums, the albums would disappear. The easiest way to handle this would be to go through the albums, select all the photos and add to a new album in the new account.

Thanks for replying. For the first part where you say the photos must be saved so they remain after the first account is deleted, how do I go about saving them?

I understand the point about the albums. 

Your final point about suspecting the videos/large files are already there, am I right in thinking you mean they are there but aren't showing as taking up space because (as in your first point) you say they don't take up space? 
I'll try your idea with the albums.

So when I've checked the sharing tab it is indeed set to save all photos. And then with regard to the final point and the large files, they do appear to be in the library I want to keep. For example, if I go into the 'Large photos and videos' section of the account I want to delete, the largest is a 1GB video I took. I can find that in the account I want to keep my scrolling to the date it was recorded, and it is the same with the other files below that.

You seem to have answered my questions, thank you. The only thing that is confusing me still now though is why there is a 20GB difference (the account I want to delete is 24GB and the one I want to keep is showing 4GB) when all the photos and videos seem to be present in both accounts?

What we see as duplicates have some differences in file format or metadata.
Additionally, if you have activated Raw + JPEG capture or bracketing in your phone app, that would create duplicates.
 
Regrettably, Google Photos doesn't provide any means to remove the apparent duplicates. You have to search those manually.
 
However, you will find some tips in the following article compiled by experts with comprehensive experience on how to avoid duplicate photos & how to remove those.

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Forum.

Google Photos is already private because it is secured with your Google Account credentials. It shouldn't be a case where some one else has the access to your Google Photos and Google Account, until you haven't shared your login credentials with anyone.

I'd recommend changing your Google Account password to secure your account. To access your backed up photos log on to photos.google.com on your desktop computer (web) or Google Photos app on any other compatible device.
