Hi Donna, if you delete Google Photos and Google Drive from the old iPad2 then re-check at https://photos.google.com/ to make sure the photos are still there, it will then be safe to erase your old iPad, Regards. Peter
Answer:
If I delete google photos & drive (what is that anyway) and then check the site you said & my photos aren't there then have I lost them?
Answer:
If they are not there it means that they have never been backed up. What you see on the iPad must be what you have in iCloud on the Apple Photos Camera Roll. The Google Photos app on the iPad does not contain any photos it is a portal which views the Camera Roll

Several of my friends always ask about my photos and use them as screensavers. Its almost a daily occurance. They have suggested I should get Google to use them. Do/can they? How do i go about this?
Answer:
Never heard of, because Google Photos basically is private and for sharing selected images with private persons.
But if you sell your images via public media like Smugmug, it may become a different story.

I'm using the PC Backup & Sync App to backup my old photos. I have a ton of RAW (CR2) photos from my old Canon Powershot S95 and S110. These were the equivalent of what cameraphones are today but back in 2011 where cameraphones could not do so well with low light.
My current setup:
- High Quality backup (Not Original)
- Latest PC app to backup photos
My desired outcome is for these photos to be backed up and be treated like JPEG photos where they don't take up space. Before you chastise me for wanting to downgrade RAW to some compressed photos, my point isn't so much to backup my RAWs, but to have all my photos archived. Photos that I care about have already been post-processed and printed or put in some sacred album. My desire is for the rest of these CR2 photos to be uploaded just like how Google Photos on Android backs up every photo I snap. I snap a LOT of photos on my phone and only a few ever make it to social media or get shared, but to have them all backed up is nice. I'd like to replicate that for my S95.
What I found was uploading the RAW photos seems to gobble up space? So do RAW photos not get compressed? If so that's a bit confusing. And before you tell me to skip the RAW photos in the app, that's also not what I'm trying to do.
Edit 1: Is it because S95 is not supported?

I edited a video on my phone that was automatically made by the Google Photo Assistant. I made sure to hit the "Save" button.
When I play the video in Google photos on my computer, the edited version is displayed. However, when I download the video to my computer, the file contains the unedited version.
When I play or download the video on my phone, the unedited version is displayed. However, when I enter back into the editor function on my phone the "downloaded clips" are of the edited version.
Obviously the edited version is saved, but it seems there is a glitch. How can I download the edited version?

Hi Emma, I've having very similar issues. Not sure if screenshots will help, but I have some example links I can share with you directly. They play one video (the correct one), but download the incorrect version. It seems to be holding on to old versions in the background E.g. I edited an auto-created one, Saved, then downloaded to device, but the one downloaded was the original, and having downloaded it the one in the app changed to the original unedited version. I then deleted from device and the edited version returned. I tried to get around this by creating one from scratch mirroring the edited version. I saved a version, then realised it didn't have the right music, so went in and changed the music and made a few other edits, and have since made more edits. These changes all seem to be held, but if I download it the version that is downloaded is my first save (at least I think it is the first one, certainly not one of the later ones). I have another interesting facet in that I have different versions appearing in the app and on desktop. It's all very frustrating and I've spent a number of hours trying different ways to get a downloaded version or a shared version that is the one I want.

Answer:
Hi Emma,
The video was a "Movie" that was automatically generated by Assistant using photos and a portion of a video that I had taken on Monday afternoon.
I didn't really like one of the photos that was included in the video, so I tapped the edit function on the right bottom side of the screen of my phone. The "clips" appeared and I selected the photo I didn't like and tapped "Remove" to delete it. I scrolled to the bottom of the list of clips and selected the button to "Add more photos and videos." I selected a new photo that I wanted. As well, I added another 1 second video clip to the end of the "Movie." Then I tapped the music button and selected a different tune from the "Theme Music." I played the video back in edit mode and it looked great. I pushed the "Save" button in the upper right hand corner, and the circle appeared so that it seemed as though it was processing.
When I went to play back my Movie again once out of the edit mode, the unedited version played instead. I went back into edit mode to see what was going on, but when it downloaded the clips, they were my edited version. I watched the video again in edit mode. It looked great, and since there were no changes to make, I tried saving again. But again, once I exited out if edit mode, only the unedited version will play on my phone. I then tried downloading the "Movie" to my phone, but it downloaded the unedited version.
Then I went to my computer and opened Google Photos and went to the Assistant. I played the video on my computer, and my edited version was displayed! This was great. I selected the option to download the video to my computer, but when I opened the saved file, it is the unedited copy. Even though I can view the edited copy on my computer from the web, I cannot download it.
I tried again yesterday and today, but I'm experiencing the exact same problem.
This is strange, because I have edited and downloaded several other "Movies" that were automatically generated by Assistant in the past, and never experienced any issues.
Any help to resolve this issue is appreciated.
Thank you.
Andrea

Answer:
I stumbled on a way to download the edited video.
On my Windows 10 machine, in my Google Chrome browser, I went to Google Photos and then I went to albums. I then selected the videos collection on the top row of that page. I clicked on the problem video and it started playing. Then I right-clicked directly on the playback and got a menu of options that began with "Loop". When I right-clicked again on the playback again, I got a menu that included the option to "Save video as" and clicked on that option. It opened up a Window to save the video as "videoplayback.mp4". When I clicked on that option the edited version of my video downloaded and I was able to upload that to YouTube. (When I try to replicate this, sometimes I get the second menu and sometimes not. I don't know why, but try a few times before you give up.)
Obviously, this is not a fix, but an ugly workaround. For those of you with an urgent need to save your video, I hope this helps, but I cannot guarantee it will work. Good Luck!

Answer:
Hello there,
Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.
-->>At some point I guess I was added to some kind of group
No worries Ruben I will help you in this.
Firstly if you are seeing other people's photos that means you are added to a shared album by your friends or others. Here you can only see photos they have uploaded to that shared album to you. They cannot see your photos.
-->>I don't understand which of my photos they can see
The pictures uploaded to Google Photos are private by default unless you specifically share them with others manually.
so if you are sharing any album or photos with others go to https://photos.google.com/sharing.
You will find all the shared photos and albums listed under the Sharing tab of the Photos app or website.
Here you can view and stop sharing an album, remove people from any album and you can also Leave an album here so that you can stop seeing others photos.
Learn more: Stop sharing, Leave an album & manage settings
However, if the backup is turned on or you manually backup a photo to Google Photos, it will reflect on your other devices where you are logged in with the same Google account.
Make sure you are the only person has access to Google Photos. If someone else are using your Google account then there is a chance that they are uploading photos to Google Photos.
so make sure you log out of unknown devices.
- Go to your Google Account.
- On the left navigation panel, select Security.
- On the Your devices panel, select Manage devices.
- Select the device
Sign out.
Also secure your Google Account by changing your password so that others do not use your account to sign in again on unknown device.
In other cases if you are using social apps like WhatsApp, Messages, and Kik..so on. You may view photos some one sent you through social apps on your Google Photos. Images from Social apps gets automatically downloaded you can change these settings by accessing those apps.
Hope this info helped you. Please comment back if you need any more info.
Thank You.
Best regards, Prudhvi (volunteer Google Photos user)

I managed to find 20-30 of them from get.google.com/archive because they were synced before i left my hotel and lose wifi, but the rest were taken when i had no internet and disappered before i was online again. Things get stranger because 1 of 5 photos i took within a few seconds is visible but the others (and 90% of them) are gone. It's also strange that some of the photos appeared as they were taken on April 21 or 22 even though I took them today (23) (this was fixed after a few minutes by itself).
It's very frustrating to lose almost all the photos you took after walking more than 7 hours, especially when your reason to buy a Pixel 2 is not carrying a dslr camera all the time.
I've seen similar posts from 2017 and quite a lot from last week, hope this will be fixed in a way that i can get my photos back.

I've had this exact same problem twice, also on a Pixel 2. If, when I am offline and not backing anything up, I try to "Move" multiple photos from my main camera gallery to a device folder that is not set to Backup & Sync only one of the photos is moved and the other are all lost forever, at least as far as I can tell. It is extremely frustrating.
Answer:
This just happened to me on vacation in Ireland. Of course the best pictures I took are all gone from a span of 5 hours. And I noticed the other images from the previous day are gone as well. I guess if I don't move them hopefully they will backup and the rest of my images will be there. I'm actually heartbroken and was hoping there was a way to get them back besides going back and recreating them all.
Answer:
The same thing just happened to me when I upgraded phones. I upgraded from a samsung galaxy 7 to a samsung galaxy s9. It's heartbreaking! I had over 5000 photos that disappeared. I have read on other blogs that it is a glitch in a software update! Those are memories of loved ones that are no longer here that can't ever be replaced! I am totally sick over this!
Answer:
I have a brand new pixel too and this has happened to me every single time I move photos into a new folder. I don't like to back up my photos as they're usually not important to keep long term but they shouldn't disappear just because you move them and you shouldn't have to have your device constantly backed up for fear they might disappear at any moment if you try to organise them. This is clearly a software problem that falls on the manufacturer and to be honest it's one that pisses me off. Another issue I have is when my phone enters low battery mode after it drops below 15% the home button becomes inaccessible. It only appears for a brief millisecond when I tap the screen to bring it up and I am unable to select it fast enough before it disappears. If I enter a video that doesn't have its own enter/exit full screen button, I get stuck on that screen and my phone can only display that video. Basically you guys blew it in these two areas. How do you fix this?
Answer:
How more simply can I put this? I had image X in folder 1. I select image X and say move to the "camera" folder. It moves there and i can see it. one second later is disappears before my eyes!
Answer:
Two years after this post was originally made and I just had a similar problem. Spent hours trying to find a handful of pictures to draw, moved them to a different folder to organize them, and POOF. They vanished. I've been using this folder for a couple of months now and never had any issues until now. I don't understand how this fatal bug is still persisting.

While online at my Photos page, I noticed that Photos had not uploaded any recent shots I have taken. Answer:
Hello Gokhun,
Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Forum.
I understand how important the photos are for you and I'll try my best to help. It can be possible that the photos weren't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon
(which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.
Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.
In case, you are uploading a large amount of data (photos/videos), please know that it might take 24-48 hours for the photos and videos to sync across all devices. Please ensure to have 'Backup & sync' enabled on the Google Photos settings while you're backing up your photos and videos. To check is the content is backed up, login in to photos.google.com to checked for your backed up photos and videos.
However, if you're sure they were backed up, I recommend you looking for your video here:
- photos.google.com.
- photos.google.com/trash.
- picasaweb.google.com.
- drive.google.com (under Google Photos).
If a photo/s is deleted from Google Photos, it would go to Trash/Bin for the next 60 days (after deletion). Unfortunately, if the photos aren't found in Trash or deleted from Trash, I'm afraid, you might not find them else where to recover them because Trash is the last resort to retrieve your lost/deleted photos.
Meanwhile, also try giving the below steps a try once again in a sequence to help resolve the issue:
- Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
- Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
- Clear App data:
- Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
- Touch Apps.
- Select Google Photos in the list.
- Touch Clear data.
- Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
- Visit the Google Play Store.
- Open Google Photos.
- Touch on Update.
Let me know how it goes.
Best,
Amanda
Answer:
Hi Amanda,
By looking at your answer, i doubt if you actually read what my problem is. What i'm saying is, the photos are disappeared when i was offline and moving them into another device folder from 'Camera' folder - so it has nothing to do with waiting 24-48 hours, or being synced or not synced. Like i said before, they're not in trash because i didn't delete them (i checked it anyway but they're not there). They're not visible in any of the links you mentioned, they're not coming back when i logout and login or switch accounts. I already checked the links, but again, it has nothing to do with google photos or drive because I was offline. They were in the folder and 10 minutes later they were gone.
I hope you can dig this deeper and give me an actual feedback instead of copy pasting what is already in the FAQs.

Hi Gokhun,
Thanks for responding.

Answer:
Teresa
Still less glitchy than an iPhone tho, but that's because they set a low bar, not because you guys went all out and did amazing

Question: How do I delete?
How do I delete back up pictures
Hello Dolores Buchanan
Thanks for reaching Google Photos Help Community.
How do I delete back up pictures?
Do you want to delete pictures or do you want to delete(free up space) all backed up photos from your device...?
I would like to answer for both categories.
- Delete Pictures
You can Delete your pictures easily in Google Photos. Here's how you can Delete photos & videos
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app
.
- Sign in to your Google Account.
- Tap and hold a photo or video you want to move to the trash. You can select multiple items.
- At the top, tap Trash
.
Important:
- If you delete a photo or video that’s backed up in Google Photos, it will stay in your trash for 60 days.
- If you delete an item from your Android device without it being backed up, it will stay in your trash for 60 days.
- If you see a photo or video in Google Photos that you think you deleted, it might be on a removable memory card. To delete it, use your device’s gallery app.
- If you use a Pixel, backed-up items will be permanently deleted after 60 days. However, items that aren’t backed up (only stored locally on the device) will be deleted after 30 days.
Please learn more about deleting your photos here Delete or restore your photos & videos
2. Free Up Space on your Android device
You can use Google Photos to save space on your phone when you remove photos from your device that are safely backed up.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app
.
- Sign in to your Google Account.
- Tap your account profile photo or initial
Photos settings
Free up device storage.
- You'll see how much space will be freed up. To delete all the items from your phone, tap Free up.
- To see your photos and videos, go to photos.google.com or open the Google Photos app
.
What happens when you remove photos and videos from your phone
If you remove copies of photos and videos on your phone, you’ll still be able to:
- See your photos and videos, including the ones you just removed, in the Google Photos app and photos.google.com.
- Edit, share, delete, and manage anything in your Google Photos library.
You won't be able to see photos and videos you removed if:
- You use your mobile device's built-in gallery.
- You're offline.
- You're not signed in to the Google Photos app
.
Hope this info helps you Dolores Buchanan. Please do comment back if you need any more info.
Thank you & Have a great day.
Regards,
Prudhvi.

While online at my Photos page, I noticed that Photos had not uploaded any recent shots I have taken. I opened the app on my Android Samsung Note 10+ 5g and noticed that it was trying to upload almost 10,000 photos from my phone that have already been backed up. Had anyone experienced this since the last Photos update a few days ago? Does anyone have any suggestions about what to do to clear the backup queue? I am concerned that if I abort the process that I may lose work from online.
Thanks for thinking about this..

My wife likes to edit/touch up older photos on Google Photos. She then wants them downloaded and saved on a RAID Drive. There does not seem to be an easy way to locate these pictures. They are often scattered over multiple months. The only way I know to find them is to scroll through the already saved photos on one screen and visually compare it to the Google Photos on her phone. Any help would be greatly appreciated. She is a professional photographer and uses the phone for candids. She often takes over 2,000 photos a month. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Professionals are famous because of their amounts, so the only way she can help you is by marking their edited pics with a star, because then they automatically can be found at Favorites down on the Search page of the app or down on the https://photos.google.com/explore page on the web. And then it becomes easy to download for storing on external disc.
Sorry

Answer:
Hello Joanna,
Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Forum.

Question: How do I move photos to my SD card?
I'm trying to move some photos from device storage to SD card but I can't find how to do that.
Hello Teresa,
- Open Google Photos
- Tab Library
- Tap the desired folder under Photos on device
- Select photos by long pressing then tap others after the tick confirms the first selection
- You can also long press and stroke down to select a batch
- Tap the 3 dot menu top right
- Tap Move to folder
- Tap New SD folder, type a folder name then tap Create
Note that if the photos are backed up to Google Photos this will not remove them from the Photos view and even if the new folder is not selected for Backup & sync any contents will still be deleted if deleted using the Google Photos app.
You should also have a setting in your camera app which saves new photos to the SD card.
Regards,
Peter

My condolences, but you can't be helped here either and certainly not fast.
You can try to recover that account, but I am afraid that Google has skipped it because of not being in use for long. See recover account
We always have to repeat the same preach: if people don't make copies on their computer neatly edited and organised, the cloud can be too far away.
Sorry to tell
PS: the pictures don't need to be at Google (photos.google.com) at all, but just stored on the broken tablet only. Maybe a repair station is able to copy them on a thumbdrive?
