Answer:

Hi there,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.

Could you please confirm if you've deleted the photo before it could get uploaded to Google Photos? If yes, unfortunately, there is no way to retrieve the photo.

However, if you're trying to find the photo that you've already uploaded to Google Photos, I recommend checking the below options to find out the videos:
  • Blogger
  • YouTube
  • Gmail
  • Google+
If you don't find the photos, I recommend looking for the photos using the below links:
For more information, please check the Help Center Article on finding missing photos & videos.

Hope this helps.

Best,
Emma

I like to review photos when I arrive home and delete the ones I don't want before backing them up to my Google account online. This is especially useful with videos.
Is there any way to do that? I know it used to be an option.
Now the only option is to turn off WiFi just before I walk in the door, go through the photos and videos, and then turn WiFi back on. But that's not really convenient. And of course if I take photos/videos when I'm somewhere where I'm connected to WiFi, I need to turn off WiFi first. 🙁
Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer:

Hi Matthew,

I see your predicament, but I can't think of a easier way to do it. There's some other options such as turning off the backup and sync until you want to back up and/or just deleting the backed up video's and photos from Google photos afterwards.

Google photos also now has the archive option, which is also useful as those items backed that you don't really want to see in your main photos stream butyou can still keep but in a separate folder and use them in the future still.

I find this useful for all those little videos that one day you can revisit and take a snippet out if you want it.

Question: I want to pixilate a persons face in a photo without removing them entirely.

I want to blur/pixilate a persons face without removing them from my photo entirely.

Hi Danny

Google Photos doesn't have an edit tool to target a specific area in your suggested situation.

You could open the image, select edit and then scroll to More > Markup and scribble over the person's face. It's not very flattering but it gets the job done.

You can also download Snapseed which integrates well with Photos.

1. Open Snapseed
2. Select the + icon and select the image to edit
3. Select Tools > Healing
4. Swipe over the person's face and it will be replaced by adjacent pixels and obscure their face
5. Save and export the image as needed

Neither of these options exactly pixelate the face as requested, but they are some options.

There may be other third party applications in the Google Play Store that offer this. I have no recommendations.

Best wishes

Joe

Question: I need my old photos and videos

Please help

Hi, venky venky 9324

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
However sorry to note your are not finding your photos & videos.

However. photos do not get deleted spontaneously without any user-initiated action.
Further, when we delete something from the phone, the sync action in the app removes it from the cloud also. The same action happens when we delete something in Google Photos, the app removes the matching content from the phone too.

Nevertheless, any deleted picture is retained in the bin for sixty days.

If your delete action is recent, you will find all the items in the bin. The bin icon becomes visible in the library view. Tap that & recover everything available in the bin.

However, if your delete action has already crossed sixty days, or you have emptied the bin inadvertently, there is no way to recover anything through Google Photos.

However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to not pick one that requires rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps;
and run a scan for anything to recover.

Please note that, due to a variety of reasons, not all files can be recovered - but you can try!

1. Items deleted from your photos.google.com are stored in trash for 60 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.

2. Items deleted manually from photos.google.com/trash can not be recovered.

3. Items deleted from your YouTube Channel can not be recovered.

4. Items deleted from your Gmail are stored in trash for 30 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.

5. Items manually deleted from Gmail trash can not be recovered.

6. Items deleted from your Google Drive  will be stored in Drive Trash for 30 days and then be Auto-Deleted from Trash and can not be recovered.

You will have to contact a Google Drive Specialist who *MAY* be able to restore it. Use this link:

I want to get google photo app off iPad without loosing photos

Hi Valley,

You can remove Google Photos app from your iPad. I will just mean that to see any of your uploaded photos you will only be able to view them by the web version (photos.google.com).

By uninstalling the app, it will not delete any of the photos that are on your device - it will just remove your ability to view any that you have uploaded to Google Photos and have removed from the iPad via Free Up Space function.

How do I delete a person who I do not want to share photos with anymore in my Google Photos on my IPhone 6?

Answer:

@Karen
If you chose Options under the 3 dots, you can switch-off the collaboration - that the album stays shared, but without names and without the photos added by the other person.
Or you can switch-off the sharing completely.
But in all cases it is more neat to warn the person by mail.

Android phone on Android 9, using a microSD card for photos with Camera MX app.

Everytime I restart the phone the photos app seems to 'forget' the contents of the SD card, and alerts that it is 'preparing to back up' all 14,000+ photos.  This takes a lot of time and battery power, although it seems that these photos are not actually being backed up in duplicates, just scanned.

Any ideas how I can help photos 'remember' that it's seen the contents of this SD card before?!

Apple support told me that it I delete photos off my iPhone to free up phone storage which was maxed out at 64gb due mainly  having 30,000+ photos and 2,000+ Videos that It won't delete off iCloud if backed up which was a Lie! Morons! So I backed it all up I believe to google photos so if I delete them now out of my iPhone will they still be on google photos? I was told yes but Apple also told me yes so want to verify!

Answer:

Hi NewYorker,

>>> So I backed it all up I believe to google photos so if I delete them now out of my iPhone will they still be on google photos?

NO!!!  If you delete them using the trash can, they will be deleted in both places.  Always use "Free up space" to remove the device copy only.

Note:  It is not recommended to use iCloud photo backup and Google Photos simultaneously (or you are on your own).. Their architectures are different and historically there have been problems with interoperability of the two applications.

Also note:  Always store important photos in more than one tool.  I store mine in Google Photos, my computer, and multiple USB drives.  Remember, you can use a cable to copy images from your phone to a computer or USB drive.

Good luck,  Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user)

So since the 15gb storage limit.has come to light my storage is full... I am deleting lots (and lots) of photos and videos from my account but the storage is renaming full and it's not backing up new photos taken ? Why?

Answer:

Depending on the amount of data deleted it can take 24-48 hours or more to be reflected throughout the system. If you are also taking photos at the same time there may not be enough deleted photos actually recognized for there to be enough space to save the new photos.. My advice for the future is NEVER allow your storage space to get over 50% full

Answer:

Thank you I will try that ... I know I wouldn't usually but it's just changed from unlimited storage to 15 GB unless you pay for more! Thank you for your advice much appreciated x

Answer:

It's a known issue that it can take even (much) more that 48 hours before storage is recovered after deleting Photos.  You may consider to use "Recover storage" in https://photos.google.com/settings, even after you deleted the photos: it may release storage faster.

Restore photos to device

"Free up space" is intended to delete photos that are uploaded to Google Photos from the device.

The photos that are deleted from the device should be in Google Photos, and shown in the Google Photos app (when signed in to the account where they are uploaded to).
Also note that it is not really safe to use "Free up space" without making a backup. See this article.

Hi,
I've been struggling with a sharing issue for some time. I wanted to share Photos with my wife, but when I click sharing, her e-mail address is not recognized. Turns out, she somehow was blocked in my account, which I do no even know how to do. I also found out that there were other people in the blocklist, but I removed everyone from there.
So after I removed the blocking, she and I still cannot share photos with each other, which is very frustrating!
Things I tried:
1. Make sure the blocklist is empty in both accounts
2. When she sends an invite to my profile, my account appears in the list, but when I refresh the page it disappears!
3. If she sends me a shareable link, I can see the album and the photos in two separate browsers, even in private window, without logging in.
4. I can see the album and the photos in two separate browsers when I'm logged in (normal and incognito mode) and I can click the Join button. If I refresh the page, the Join button is active again, meaning I didn't join the album.

What I see in common with this kind of problems in the community is that it is always family members, who are affected(parents, children, spouses, etc.) Strange...

What else might cause some issues is that she recently created a second Google account which has been linked in Gmail, so that she can manage both e-mail accounts under one. She can now send and receive in both e-mail addresses in that one account.
The same applies for my end, I have more Google accounts linked to my primary account.

I hope my research was thorough enough to see what is the real problem, which is definitely on Google's end. (Yes, my blocklist is indeed empty)

So is there anything that I might have missed or I can do to restore normal operation of photo sharing?

Thanks,
Tibor
