All photos recovery
Hello Abdul,
Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.
Could you please elaborate the issue or your query for me to assist you better? If you've deleted them from Google Photos and want to restore them, please know that photos/videos deleted from the Google Photos library, goes to the Trash for the next 60 days. So, in case, you deleted it by mistake you can always restore it from Trash folder within those 60 days (post deletion). But, if you don't find it in Trash, probably it must have been deleted more that 60 days ago. Unfortunately, restoring your lost/deleted photos and videos from Trash is the last resort.
If no, please let me know.
Regards,
Amanda

Question: Backup related queries
Hi, Ashish Shah 8483
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
Your existing photos are already backed up.
Whatever you add after 1st June 2021 will also continue to be backed up till the time your free storage limit gets exhausted. That will get filled up fast as every photo uploaded after 1st June 2021 will occupy space within that 15 GB shared with Gmail & Google drive documents.

After that, you will have to delete something to continue to have access to your mail, or you have to subscribe for additional storage through paid plans.

Hi, Amnon Yekutieli
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
By resize do you mean the photos file size?
Answer:
Addition
You can't expect that from Google - they are not that clever anymore like in the Picasa-days :-)
And cropping is not meant for file-resizing but for cutting away "bad borders".
But as long as the original is still on phone, you have many resizing-apps in the Playstore.

By the way, why does google use volunteers at all? Why do you take part?

Since you used the term cropping, anyone will like to have the clarity to know whether the query is related to geometrical dimensions or filesize.
Additionally, the app offers a JPEG compression from 95 % to 80%
With the combination of these two, we can achieve the desired downsizing of a picture.

i am used to the desktop app of google photos, never had problems, and today when opening it it asked me to go to the new app that i already use for G drive, when i selected the same folders that were selected in the previous app i found that it was creating folders in the section: my computers in G drive platform(and this is using my G drive storage even if i'm selecting free unlimited storage, so it is making it limited now) and i don't want that i just need to upload to google photos without creating any folders in the cloud but this is not the main problem..
Answer:
@Amon
Not for paying people either: Google is the same for everyone and you only may need to pay additional storage space and some additional features in the editor.
But not what you ask.
And most additional apps are free also.
You also can use a more advanced editor for free (without advertisements) from Google, named Snapseed which can export downsized images. Reachable from within the Google Photos editor under More.
Best
PS: be glad that there are experienced volonteers here :-)

Hi, Amnon Yekutieli
Thanks for your reply
Customarily, I do not interfere in the response when another senior expert adds a comment on a thread.
However, this thread I am making an exception.
Nevertheless, I sought clarification regarding what do you mean by resizing.
Since you used the term cropping, anyone will like to have the clarity to know whether the query is related to geometrical dimensions or filesize.
The file size reduction facility is very much available in the add-on app Snap seed.
Usually, all android phones have this app gratis.
Google Photos editor transports a picture in Snap seed when a user wants to do so.
In Snap seed, you can resize an image from 4000 px down to 800 px
In Snap seed, you can resize an image from 4000 px down to 800 px
Additionally, the app offers a JPEG compression from 95 % to 80%
With the combination of these two, we can achieve the desired downsizing of a picture.
Believe that would meet your expectation of downsizing a picture on the phone itself.
Answer:
To both Volunteers,
By "resize" I definitely mean reduce file size (say of jpg, an already compressed format). There are several algorithms for that (e.g. Lit Photo, which I use, also has "compress").
I will try Snapseed too. Installing it now.
I can see the commercial logic google uses: resizing pictures (many pictures, e.g. of text) retain all the useful information when reduced to < 100KB, so keeping them at 4MB is silly, yet it does inflate storage => need to buy storage from google. (I am only a mathematician, but I do have a bit of computing experience.)
I think I saw a document saying that for GSuite or some other kind of for-pay license there does exist a built-in resize option in GPhotos. Of course these licenses involve a priori purchase of virtually unlimited storage (for me 5TB is infinite).
There it is. Or did I overlook any aspect?
Thanks,
Amnon
Answer:
@Amon
There is no commercial logic, but just no general need for filesize-reducing and you are among the very few asking for. But if you try to send 5 pictures as mail-attachments, your Gmail- or Outlook-app will propose you to downsize them to 1600px wide or to send them as a link to Google Photos or OneDrive, just because of the oldmodish limits of mailproviders.
In the days of Picasa, you could upload to Picasaweb for free if you accepted its downsizing to 1600px or smaller before uploading. But with Google Photos normal files uploaded get compressed at Google automatically if you don't choose original size which always will lead to payed storage.
See upload size
It is your personal choice to backup very small images, but my usual size was 1600px in the past and 2048px now and that is large enough for my iPad and for good quality 4x6" prints (if ever needed) and also good enough for normal screens with 1920x1080px.
I am too old for needing better anymore for my large collection going back to 1900 :-)
Generally we have no knowledge here about the special features (and restrictions) for GSuite-user, because most have a personal Gmail-account just for having an Android instead of an iPhone. And most don't even use that account for daily mailing, but just for Photos only.
PS: be aware that Snapseed is a rather professional image-editor primarily and not suitable for downsizing many files in batch which often is needed.
Answer:

I tried snapseed a moment ago, and then looked at the instructions. Unless I missed something, this app has a very minimal capabity to resize. Nothing compared to what LitPhoto can do, see screenshot ---
Answer:
Using the 2nd application is time consuming and annoying. It is a matter of improved user experience.
Right now I need to crop in 1 app (photos), shrink (litphoto), then access the directory (solid explorer file browser).
I realize I am not your typical user -- yet several apps actually use by feedback, often as beta tester, for bug removal and feature improvements. Among them are AquaMail, XODO and Informant, all on Android. A give-and-take relationship.
Also:For privacy considerations I do not use photos to "save" or "archive" of "backup" my pictures. It is too easy to make things public on google applications (e.g. GForms is notorious for lack of privacy) by mistake (and then material might spread onlinbe if unlucky!). Google changes the buttons and defaults too frequently and these changes are a source of such errors! So I save my sensitive texts and all pictures (except some that were uploaded to google photos by such an error) in another service altogether, that -- so I hope -- google apps (not to mention the tentacles of facebook etc) cannot access.
That's why I asked, hoping to learn a better solution (that I still did not find) and maybe prod the giant to improve (not likely).

Hi, shahab khan 1076
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
When we delete something from the phone, the sync action in the app removes it from the cloud also & vice versa,
Nevertheless, any deleted picture is retained in the bin for sixty days,
If your delete action is recent, you will find all the items in the bin. The bin icon becomes visible in the library view. Tap that & recover everything available in the bin.
However, if your delete action has already crossed sixty days, or you have emptied the bin inadvertently, there is no way to recover anything through Google Photos.
However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to not pick one that requires rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps
and run a scan for anything to recover.

Hi, Asha Pavi
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
If you decrease the data limit, the app will not work satisfactorily & you will land up looking at black boxes.
You can get some reprieve by not exercising the "Free up space" option. Then the app will show the pics from the gallery on your phone & will need fewer data.
However, once you run out of space on your phone, even that will become difficult.

Answer:
@Jayson
Not at all, your basic collection is on the Photos-page and from there you can build your own thematic albums - all what Google adds is not very interesting, but it are search selections based on your popular spots and "things" which are created to make you own searches faster.
PS: backup & sync creates a synced backup at https://drive.google.com/drive/computers and there you will see your own folders back. But what has reached Google Photos is a non-synced copy on dates only.
SO if you have many wrongly dated pictures like scanned old prints, it will be a total chaos.
Answer:

Answer:
@Jayson
Sorry, it was not clear to me that there was nothing to see on the Photos-page either. But then there is nothing to organise for Google at all, so I don't understand their message at all.
Probably your are a victim of a mysterious start-up bug in the app causing an empty Photos-page and you should report that via the feedback option in the app.
Assuming normal image-files (jpg and mp4 merely) which are compatible with Photos, you can try the following tric: open photos.google.com and choose Upload > From Drive and then pick a know picture in a known folder under Computers and then choose Upload. If you are lucky all will appear then in Photos.
And of course the checkmark at the bottom of the setup window about Google Photos should be there.
Else I would not know what you can do then uninstalling the app, restart your computer a dwonload a fresh file from https://photos.google.com/apps
After setting-up it will ask if the same folders can be used for Drive and you can say Yes. Maybe all will appear then at Photos also.
Good luck

Hi Jayson Benge,
Your problem may indeed be because the amount of data is too large, so Google servers need more time to process.
If you use the web to access Google Photos, you can click the More icon in the upper right corner of the browser, go to Settings > Privacy and security > Clear browsing data, select All time for the Time range, check the options below and click Clear data to confirm the clearing of cache and data.
This can effectively prevent the backed up Google Photos not showing up.

Then it looks like a bug. When photos are cropped in Google Photos, the originals remain available and are not modified. The crop (and other edits) are stored in the database and applied on the fly. You could try the following:
- Open one of the photos and click the "Edit" icon. Do you see "Undo edits" ?
If yes, what happens when you undo all edits ? - When you open one of the photos, and click the 3-dots, do you see "Download original" ?
If yes, what happens when you do that ? - You could delete one of the photos and upload again. Is the new upload also cropped ?
If so, can you repeat this, but also delete that one photo from the bin ? Of course do this only when you still have the original somewhere.

Google photos used to back up my photos regardless of whether the app was running or not. However, recently it changed so that I have to open the app before the photos start synchronizing. As soon as I open Photos, the backup begins. I have tried clearing the app cache and also have disabled battery optimization for both Google photos as well as Google backup transport to no avail. It used to work perfectly.

The images and videos I download sometimes have a different date.
Answer:
Hello Violeta,
Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Forum.
I understand how important the video is for you and I'll try my best to help. It can be possible that the video wasn't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon
(which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.
Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.
In case, you are uploading a large amount of data (photos/videos), please know that it might take 24-48 hours for the photos and videos to sync across all devices. Please ensure to have 'Backup & sync' enabled on the Google Photos settings while you're backing up your photos and videos. To check is the content is backed up, login in to photos.google.com to checked for your backed up photos and videos.
However, if you're sure they were backed up, I recommend you looking for your video here:
- photos.google.com.
- photos.google.com/trash.
- picasaweb.google.com.
- drive.google.com (under Google Photos).
If a photo/s is deleted from Google Photos, it would go to Trash/Bin for the next 60 days (after deletion). Unfortunately, if the photos aren't found in Trash or deleted from Trash, I'm afraid, you might not find them else where to recover them because Trash is the last resort to retrieve your lost/deleted photos.
Meanwhile, also try giving the below steps a try once again in a sequence to help resolve the issue:
- Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
- Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
- Clear App data:
- Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
- Touch Apps.
- Select Google Photos in the list.
- Touch Clear data.
- Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
- Visit the Google Play Store.
- Open Google Photos.
- Touch on Update.
Let me know how it goes.
Best,
Amanda

Answer:
Archive them suckers. That's all you can do unless you have a secret lockbox on your Android or IOS .
If your looking to lock the app from hacks, there are tons of apps with app lock features where you can lock up all your apps but if a hacker is in your device he or she can play havoc with applockers, Because when you need that app ASAP to fight your mind bender you'll be wrangling with that applocker and the golden 5 seconds will pass and you'll have these code infiltrator/keylogging heros of mine like deep throat in your device. They have a fix for your photo blues it was called good ole fashioned hard copy photos. Google isn't about privacy their more about synchronicity and smooth flow of your experience. They just forgot about all the headaches in between each increment.

Question: I want my parmanant deledted photos
Hello there.
Thank you for reaching Google photos help community.
I am sorry to inform you that once photos are deleted permanently...you can't recover them.
Please check your trash 🗑️ folder in Google photos. As trash/bin is the last available solution to recover your photos.
Good luck.
Regards,
Prudhvi (volunteer at Google photos community)
Answer:
Hello @Tracey John
You can easily access your Trash folder in Google Photos.
If you deleted an item and want it back, check your trash to see if it's there.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app
.
- At the bottom, tap Library
Trash
.
- Touch and hold the photo or video you want to restore.
- At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
- In your phone's gallery app
- In your Google Photos library
- In any albums it was in
You can also try it by just clicking on this link on your computer https://photos.google.com/trash
If the item is not in your trash, it may be permanently deleted.
Don't see the photo or video? If a deleted photo or video isn't in trash, you can't restore it. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
- You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
- You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
- You permanently deleted it from your trash.
- You permanently deleted it from your device's Gallery app, without backing it up first.
Hope this info helps you. Please create a separate forum so that you get perfect solution for your query.
Regards,
Prudhvi.

Question: I want to recover deleted photos // I can see them from my mobile in utilities>organisation>deleted
I had deleted photos from laptop by mistake kindly help
Hi, Ashish Gera
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
When we delete something from the phone, the sync action in the app removes it from the cloud also & vice versa,
Nevertheless, any deleted picture is retained in the bin or trash for sixty days. (The name is bin in the app but called as trash on the desktop)
If your delete action is recent, you will find all the items in the bin/trash. The icon becomes visible in the library view.

Yes, Google Photos do become public when you:

Otherwise, the public has no means to look at your collection.
