"how  to Sort of my choice"
  • In the library photos are sorted by "Date taken" if available ((newest first), otherwise the upload date may be used. The order can only be changed by changing the date/time.

  • In albums you can click the 3-dots > Edit album, then
    • click the "Sort" icon (2 arrows) and select what you want
    • or select one or more photos and drag them to where you want

I have everything backed up and synced in high quality which is not supposed to count toward my storage limit; but my account shows I've used 4.33GB of my free 15 GB storage. How can I get my storage space back?

Answer:

Remember...Storage contains more than just photos.
"High Quality" only applies to photos but not to emails, etc. that also count toward storage

Answer:

@William
If not on Gmail or Drive, you may have used original quality in your backup settings accidently or just for testing long agoo and forgotten. Or it is a still unprocessed long video (or 4K video).
Just sign-in to one.google.com/storage/management to find-out any big stuff somewhere and follow the instructions.

I understood it right now, well, I removed them from the blocking at https://myaccount.google.com/blocklist, but now such a problem, every time I share a photo with the user, he just doesn't receive it, I go to Share and I see that he has disappeared from public access, I add it again and it disappears again ... what should I do?

I understand your feelings, I myself also have photographs of my already deceased pets.
But Google services have no information about the death of pets or people.

The only way is to try to send photos of this cat to the archive in Photos

My Pixel 3 is set to save both RAW and JPG files. However, when I look on photos.google.com I only see JPG files. Where are the RAW files? I want to download some of them into LR Classic for processing.

Thanks for your help!

Answer:

Hi, Michael Rothschild

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

The raw pics get stored just like any other picture.
However, you will find a raw symbol on a raw picture in gallery view & words raw when launched on full screen.
Please see the screenshot below.

Answer:

@Michael
I do think that the Google-app just forgets the raw-files because their DNG-definition deviates from Adobe-standards. Or the app rejects them as being duplicates.
If you are on Windows-10, you automatically have a basic subscription for using OneDrive up to 5 GB.
If you install the OneDrive-app on your Pixel, you can set it for automatic backupping and in the Windows Explorer you will find the Camera-album in the OneDrive folder en that folder will get filled with both filetypes. Then you drag these files into a normal folder to get processed in Lightroom.
By this dragging your prevent that the files stick in the OneDrive cloud.
Just try for a while.

How do I increase storage on my Android phone?

Hi,
What does your question have to do with Google Photos?
Maybe you can ask your phone's manufacturer.

Answer:

@Anna
Snapseed stores in its own folder and if this folder is synced withing Google Photos, your edits are in Google cloud also. Did you check that on photos.google.com ?
If so, install the simple Google Gallery Go app or the Google Files app, because then it is easy to empty the Snapseed folder: just select the first pictures and then select All via the 3 dots and then hit the trashbin. In the Gallery app you also need to empty its own trashbin via the 3 dots.
Good luck

I have uploaded my pictures and videos in high quality, but its quality is not as good as before, Now if I change it to original quality, so is it good for my photos?

In short, I want to ask, which one is better high quality or original quality?

Answer:

"High Quality"=compressed whereas "Original Quality" will be whatever the original quality was.
Thus, "HQ" will always be of lesser quality

Answer:

@Ali
What is changed at your side that you have the impression the quality is lowered because I don't see any difference since years. You probably never did check on a larger screen in the browser of a good quality laptop on the website photos.google.com
Be aware that changing to original quality only will apply to new uploads and that you may need to start paying for more storage soon if you love to shoot videos.

Answer:

The free-up space function only deleted pictures from your local storage which are safely stored at Google.
But you talk about "old pictures" - maybe from a former phone.
Then you may used a different Google account perhaps???
When you hold your finger at the right border for a while, you can start scrolling through years deep down.
Hard to guess more.

  • Tap the + sign to create a new one
  • Select the two videos.
  • Adjust the durations through the sliders which become visible at the bottom.

Question: Google Photos stopped downloading my photos in March - no recent photos are in Google Photo

Google Photo stopped backing up my photos from iPhoto....last photo was early March

Hi Mary,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.

I do understand the inconvenience as your Google Photos has stopped backing up photos from your device. I recommend trying the steps below in sequence, this may help in fixing the issue:
  • Do a force restart by holding the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logoappears.
  • If the application freezes or is not responding, you can force the app to close by holding the power button until the red slider Slide to Power Off appears. Do not slide the slider. Instead, hold the home button for 5 or 6 seconds, and you should be returned to the home screen.
Lastly, you can try the below mentioned steps if all else fails:
  • Go to Settings.
  • Turn on Airplane Mode.
  • Wait a few seconds, and turn it back off.
  • Tap on the Settings icon.
  • Select the General menu.
  • Scroll to the bottom and tap on Reset.
  • Select Reset Network Settings.
  • The device will take a minute or so to reboot.
Let me know if this helps.

Best,
Emma

Tried every possible way to reset hidden collection password. Please help.

@Mary
You have to be logged-in to the Google Photos app right-up to be able to view your archive on its Library page. But most of the time you will be logged-in already.
But you also may have used some special safe folder in some other app for which you need a password.
And then we have no solution because that does not have anything to do with Google Photos.

Answer:

Hi User a bunch of numbers,

>>>> I have uploaded photo's and video's, but don't see the name of the file that I uploaded.  How do I name a photo or video so people know what it is?

You can't easily rename a photo, but you can add a description in the Info Panel which you can access forr a specific image via the ~i with a circle around it icon~ or via the 3 dot menu.   In a shared album you can also add comments, but if they were my images I would use the Description in the Info Panel.

Best regards,  Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user)

Answer:

Thank you!   I did find that later.   I was just hoping to name them in the album so that we could see what let's say a video was about without having to go to that info on each video.

Answer:

How about using the Album's text block feature? You could put a text block directly before or after the video and include a description. Not exactly what you want, but it may do the trick.
  1. Open the album
  2. Click the 3-dot menu
  3. Choose Edit album
  4. Click the Tt button that has appeared in the upper right. That opens up a block where you can type whatever you want, then you can drag it into place.

I backed up my videos on google photos and deleted them from my photos amd trash but later on i checked, they were deleted from google photos and weren't on trash either. What do i do, they're very important for my presentation.

Answer:

@Golpo
Videos take a lot of time to get backupped, so if you are too fast with deleting them in the Apple Photos app, the backupping may have been not ready (that is shown under your profile) and then you may have unsupported (corrupted) videofiles at Google which take storage.

Answer:

Sorry Golpo, but you always should check under your profile if the message "Backup is ready" is there before deleting your originals.
Even better: checking on photos.google.com regurarly.
We can do no more then telling this.

Google Photos- I am unable to find photos since last 10 days suddenly -  I had lots of photos and videos all synced up well and I checked them yday night - all had been synced up as expected -However today when I looked up for photos I cannot find anything all the way back till April 3rd. These photos have very important family moments from key events and I would need to get access to those . I know for. A fact they were all synced up so not sure what happened today -is there a sync issue here ? How can I get my data back ?  Can someone urgently look into this and let me know ? You can email me at my account for any questions on this .

Thank you
Ajit

Hi, Ajit Bhadouria

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

However, first, please note, this is a peer support forum & we are volunteers here trying to help the community.
We are also users just like you but trying to help the community members through our knowledge, experience & desire to help.
Secondly, no one can access your data so there is no question of someone looking into the content of your cloud storage.

Photos do not get deleted spontaneously without any user-generated action.
Further, when we delete something from the phone, the sync action in the app removes it from the cloud also & vice versa.

Nevertheless, any deleted picture is retained in the bin for sixty days,

Since your delete action is recent, you will find all the items in the bin. The bin icon becomes visible in the library view. Tap that & recover everything available in the bin.

However, if your delete action has already crossed sixty days, or you have emptied the bin inadvertently, there is no way to recover anything through Google Photos.

Thank you for the inputs - I don't see anything in the google photos bin and I didn't go there to clear anything . I  am just wondering if there was a sync issue or if google can track from the logs - weird thing is data that was previously backed to google photos is not visible anymore . Confused completely and I had my  son's BB games recorded in that duration and lost all of that :( hence trying to see if anyway I can get that back .

Answer:

I did not delete anything from google photos- I deleted from my phone( iOS)  only after they were synced to the google photos account . I also recall checking if all photos were synced in and I saw them. Can google photos team find out if logs indicate the same and can restore form backup for me ?

Any help to figure out and retrieve my photos from the gap period will help .

Hi,  Ajit Bhadouria

Thanks for your reply

I surmise users do have a misunderstanding about the "Sync" function.

The Sync operation replicates the action we take from one end to the other end also.
Sync means that your photo library stays consistent across all devices that are signed in to your account with Google Photos.
 For example, deleting a photo from one device will delete it from everywhere, and editing a photo on the web will edit the photo on the original device.

If your delete action is recent, you will find all the items in the bin. The bin icon becomes visible in the library view. Tap that & recover everything available in the bin.
However, if your delete action has already crossed sixty days, or you have emptied the bin inadvertently, then there is no way to recover anything through Google Photos.

Nevertheless, you may install to your iOS device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to not pick one that requires jail breaking) and run a scan for anything to recover through your device.

Some times it just shows like you have no photos saved on google but its not mean that you lost your data because on that time you may lost your network signals like you can see here the details.

Question: I want to turn backup off but only for videos

Hello Hazim Faizan!
Welcome to the Google Photos forum!
Unfortunately, such a setting doesn't currently exist: all file types are uploaded to the cloud, with no choice.
You can request features in GPhotos app -> settings -> Help / feedback
or -> Twitter @googlephotos

Answer:

@Hazim
This is possible now when you want to upload when having a mobile connection only.
But as soon you have good wifi again the non-uploaded video will start to upload.
It is not quite handy to switch-off backupping and then move new videos into some folder before switching-on backup again.
Sorry - no Google here to blame.

Question: Cancel a photo book order

Our daughter inadvertently ordered a book.  We are outside the two hour window and cannot cancel it.  We really want to cancel this book.  Google Help forms seem to just lead in circles with messages like "There was a problem with the form" being the norm.
Our daughter has a disability that makes her impulsive in these situations.  Not getting anywhere with Google.

Answer:

Hi Rodney,

>>>> We are outside the two hour window and cannot cancel it.  We really want to cancel this book.

This is a user supported help forum, we don't have access to your account, orders, or other personal data.

I am not sure these were the methods you were trying to use previously, but they SHOULD help reach somebody who MAY be able to help:
Best regards,  Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user)
