which country do you live in? Troubleshooting is not easy as there are unfortunately no user-accessible options or settings other than turning face grouping off or on. You may turn off face grouping, wait a few days, and then turn it on again. In addition you may keep uploading new photos in the hope the additional data triggers the algorithms.

Sometimes my mobile is being used by others and then people poke around Google photos just see what have I been upto.

Sorry for the delayed reply..

I switched to flight mode and tried to use the Photos app and this seemed to resolve the issue. App didn't crash again on Switching off the flight mode again. Right now able to use the app seamlessly.

Changing the setting only means that future uploads will have the original quality and count for your storage in account, so you may need to start paying for more space soon.

What already is present at photos.google.com will stay at high quality and never will count.

And on your phone nothing is changed or deleted.

The Google photos app can send a pic to WhatsApp to use as a status or attachment to some message
The other way round, WhatsApp can now access the Google Photos collection on the cloud.

However, those options are not available to set the DP.
You will have to download the picture to the phone's memory & then use that as DP.

Thanks for the reply. Appreciate the effort.

However, I think you might have not understood my doubt.

I have had Google account for a long time and at that time I had Samsung and Nokia phones. So I had their own gallery for the photos in my phone. At that time I used to put my personal photos to my google photos account to keep them as private and also to keep them from losing.

Now I have an android one phone, and this one does not have an gallery app. I heard google photos app is a good app and want to try it. However, when I open it it shows all the old private photos that I have put on my google photos account online. I don't want to show those photos on my phone, as at work my phone moves between different hands when during call conferencing and other work related activities.

So I ask , can we make any settings in google or in the app, so that it does not show the online photos in my phone?

As I note from the screenshot, your media files are getting stored on the SD card including the snaps you take through the camera on your phone.

Nevertheless, the Google Photos app includes every folder on the phone that contains photos or videos.

If your internal memory contains some media files, that will emerge in the list of folders.

To taste that, you can use these steps.
Use any file explorer app on your phone. Then copy any photo that resides on the SD card.
Paste that into a new folder into the internal memory.

Once done, a message will pop up "New folder found" and seeking your permission to backup media through that.

Even if you ignore that message, still the folder will be listed in the library with a sign of cloud with a slash across that.

However, if you find there are media files in some folders in the internal memory & that's not visible in Google Photos, then please revert.

You can have multiple IDs created along with a new phone & number.
Even then, you can choose to make one email ID as primary on all the phones. Then the photos will sync to that ID. You can deactivate backup & sync through other IDs to avoid duplication.
