Perhaps, but the normal way is to connect the camera via its usb-cable to the Chromebook and switch on the camera. And because you ask on the Google Photos forum, simply open photos.google.com in the Chromebrowser and then choose Upload and search for the DCIM-folder in the camera and then select the contents and click Open: there they go and at the end, choose Album and name it.

Switch-off the camera before disconnecting (nothing is removed from sd).

In this way you also prevent that they got stored on the mini-disc in the book itself, but just at Google.

And these pictures also can be viewed in the Photos-app on Android when you are logged-in with the same account as used on your Chromebook.

It still works that way in my old Chromebook and my Samsung compactcamera like shown below on site for one testpicture only:

PS: if you have raw-files, they will get converted into jpeg's if you choose High quality at the settings next to the question mark before starting with the upload. If it are jpg-files, they will stay jpg-files but somewhat compressed and up to 16 MP at max. If you don't want that, you need to select Original quality, but will use more storage at Google (up to June 1, high quality is not counted).

The app does not show the cloud, but your local pictures like any gallery and that are no doubles.

So if you start to delete there, you are deleting your locals primarily and if they are synced with Google, also their copies at Google (visible at photos.google.com) are deleted.

But they are in Trash on the Library-page, so they can be recovered from there unless you also did empty that trash - then it is hopeless because of neglecting the warning that this removal would be permanent.

Hopefully you did not do that?

No one else but only can have access to your photos collection.

You have to delete those through the phone app.

First, switch off the backup & sync. This is important. Otherwise along with the cloud storage, you will lose pics on your phone also.
Next, open the app in the gallery view. Long press on the first picture till a tick appears then stroke down while still in pressed condition. You can reach the bottom in five to ten minutes.
Once there, tap the bin symbol.
Next through the library view access the bin & empty that.
In this way, you can get rid of the entire collection.

After that, uninstall the app to avoid any inadvertent initiation of backup & sync.

I suggest you clear the cached & stored data of the Google Photos app & then reinstall the app.

You can do that through these steps.

On your Android phone, open the Settings.
Tap Apps and notifications.
Tap Show all apps.
Tap Google Photos.
Tap Storage and cache.
Tap Clear storage.
Next, uninstall the Google Photos app.
Power off the phone & then restart.
Install the latest version of the Google Photos app through the Play Store.

Next, invoke flight mode on your device. Disconnect any WIFI connectivity

Then try to open the folder on the SD card through Google Photos & inform the findings.

Please note that, due to a variety of reasons, not all files can be recovered - but you can try!

1. Items deleted from your photos.google.com are stored in trash for 60 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.

2. Items deleted manually from photos.google.com/trash can not be recovered.

3. Items deleted from your YouTube Channel can not be recovered.

4. Items deleted from your Gmail are stored in trash for 30 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.

5. Items manually deleted from Gmail trash can not be recovered.

I could not reproduce your problem, but I closed the book before I started to turn one picture in my Chrome-browser. So I can't give any support and you can't get support from Google if you don't pay for additional storage-space.

Maybe your problems are caused by your browser (Firefox?).

So best to finish its design then on your phone and then to order it from there.

All photos uploaded or synced to Google Photos are placed in the library in date order and no folder structure is synchronized. It is possible (time consuming) to recreate Albums to reflect the folder structure, but not possible to keep that folders in sync with the albums,

When you use "Backup & Sync" the folders on your computer are uploaded to Google Drive under "Computers". When you activate "Google Drive" in https://photos.google.com/settings you should be able to find (hidden) albums corresponding to the folders in Drive by searching with terms of the folder title.

Thus it seems that there are albums corresponding to folders on your computer, but they are hidden. Let us know whether this is of any help.

Hello Nicolas,

G Suite accounts do not have the option to Sync Drive photos to Google Photos (we do not know why as it is a G Suite product restriction) so you would have to de-select (I assume Photos-Videos) in Drive sync.

If any of the photos have been previously uploaded to Google Photos you would also have to consider deleting the Google Photos folder in My Drive (assuming it is the system generated folder and contains no uploaded photos) or there will be a clash with the next step as the same photos would be skipped as there is an existing entry in Drive. No problem if exactly the same photo is in Google Photos.

The process would have to be along the following lines:

Create a new folder for you photos and videos, for example Photos-Videos, outside Google Drive on the computer creating dummy parent folders if the sub folder hierarchy is multi level)
Move one sub folder to the new main folder and allow it to backup to Google Photos
Go to https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ where the newly uploaded photos would be presented by upload date, select the batch and add to an album naming it the same as the folder
Repeat for each folder

Typical preferences (only visible online)

Once the albums are created and the backup is complete future additions would have to be manually selected at https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ and added to the relevant album,

You can add a person through the following steps.

Tap to open the photo which contains unidentified faces & then slide up or tap the three dots.
If the app had failed to include some faces in that picture, then you will see a prompt "XX faces available to add".
Here is a screenshot of one such suggestion

Tap the edit icon at the extreme right edge. (An icon of a pencil circled in the screenshot above).

That will show identified faces in square boxes & their thumbnails at the bottom.
Tap on the + sign on each thumbnail.
Then the app will show you all the identified faces till that time.
You can select the right one.

If not, tap the + sign at the top right corner of the screen.
That would create a new grouping altogether.

Once created, the app may take some time to bring all the related pictures to this new grouping.
Otherwise, you can go through the collection & add the photos to the newly created group, manually, through the same steps as described above.

Nevertheless, any deleted picture is retained in the bin for sixty days,

That's the design feature of the Sync action.

Sync means that your photo library stays consistent across all devices that are signed in to your account with Google Photos.
For example, deleting a photo from one device will delete it from everywhere, and editing a photo on the web will edit the photo on the original device.

To create space in the memory of your phone, you should use the "Free up space" option in Google Photos.

That will remove the device copy leaving the one on the cloud intact.

Deleting in an indepent gallery app (like Google Gallery Go or Google Files) should not delete anything in the Google Photos app, provided that this app is logged-in with the same account as used in its backup-settings and provided that they were copied to Google (photos.google.com) really.

PS: the free-up space option deletes everything on your phone that is copied at Google really and that can be unhandy because many want to have recent pictures (say since Januar 1) at hand.

Deleting on phone should not delete in the Google-app provided you are logged-in correctly and you are connected to Google.

But deleting in the Google-app always deletes the local file, because you are seeing the local files. And if connected to Google, also their copies in the cloud will get deleted.

In case you don't want to see some pictures in the Google-app, you can hide them by archiving.

Critics on design should be send by using the feedback option under your profile, because we are no Google employees.
