Not have Google Photos remove photos from my phone. I have plenty of room on my phone.

The Google-app does not remove any local pictures unless dictated by you. 

However: Google may suggest to make some space regurarly, but that is nonsense unless you would have less then 10% free really. 

You can switch-off such confusing and irritating notifications in the settings of the app. 

PS: check on photos.google.com in Safari if you pictures are backupped at Google really, because iPhones don't love Google :-)

No problem here, so I can't guess what is wrong at your side when you have good wifi because the collage is stored at Google and not on your phone. 

But if the original images still are on phone, you can type "collage" in the Playstore and install some popular app to take over. Just because you are in hurry.

At Google or on your phone or on both? 

Even you download some pictures individually, they will land in the folder Restored and not in its original folder. But new pictures and screenshots will fill these folders very soon again. 

PS: via the Google One app you can download 200 recent pictures back to the folder Restored for free, but only once. Best to uninstall this app thereafter, unless for other interesting functions not known to me.

The photos will not return to your phone's gallery automatically.

 

Either, you can download photos one by one. Regrettably, there is no option to do so on a batch of photos.

 

Alternatively, you can install the Google One app there is a one time option to restore up to two hundred most recent photos to the device.

However, the local folder structure can not be restored.

To do so, there is no requirement to join Google One, the option is available to everyone.

However, the method may not be effective to recover something when the count is more than two hundred.

 

Or, you can arrange for a bulk download by visiting the link https://takeout.google.com/ 

Select the Google Photos app for data download.

Once the file is ready, you will get an email. Access that & unzip all the attachments into your phone's gallery.

 

That will bring everything to your phone.

 

However, all these actions depend on how perfect was the backup before you did resetting of your phone,

If the backup was stopped or stuck for some reason, then there is no chance of getting anything back.

Google recently advised me that the photo uploader tool was going away and I needed to use a different sync tool and add these to Google Drive. I installed the new software, added my photo folder, checked the option to sync these to Google Photos and everything seemed fine.

Once the operation was completed however, I can only see these photos online using the URL : https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ 

If I use the regular URL ie https://photos.google.com/ they do not appear.

Any ideas how to get the photos which I uploaded via the new Google Drive to appear within my regular account? Of course if I use the app on my iPad, I can't see a way of pointing to this /search URL

I've tried clearing my cache, and accessing photos in incognito, and I see the same result BTW

When photos are seen in https://support.google.com/photos/thread/107492?hl=en they should also be in the library, unless you moved them to the "Archive" https://photos.google.com/archive. 

The photos may be lower in the library, but there are also reports of photos not been shown, which usually is a temporary glitch in the system.  Also note that refreshing a page (F5) may bring up photos that are otherwise not shown.  You can also add photos to an album to find them more easily.

Hi, thanks for the reply. 

To confirm, these photos were not added to archive to my knowledge. All I did was swap the uploading tool as advised by Google and when the first batch was uploaded on Sunday, they failed to appear in the root URL photos.google.com. As I mentioned, I have cleared my cache and my experience is consistent when I tried Incognito mode, so I'm fairly sure F5 would be successful in this case. 

You mention temporary glitches and can you give me an idea of how long 'temporary' means? Would this usually mean hours or weeks? and if it's not a glitch, but a bug, how do I escalate this?

This isn't a temporary glitch and very definitely a bug in my view. The photos I previously uploaded and all subsequent ones using the new backup and sync appear on the URL https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ but only the pictures synced from my Android phone appear in the root https://photos.google.com/ 

How can I get someone to correct this bug? It's a bit of a showstopper for me as it renders the photos app on my phone and iPad useless

I then click on 'Allow' and then it says 'Trouble moving/copying 1 item'. It just refuses to move or copy any pictures whereas it never did that before.

This is due to Android-11 which has more security steps. 

But you should be clear about which folders you are talking and if these folders are coupled to some app and are synced with Google Photos or not. 

Else we can't check anything. 

 

PS: it maybe wise to install the simple Google Gallery Go to bypass this problem, but that does not prevent problems for the apps involved. For instance: if you move-out pictures from a Whatsapp-folder, these pictures become vague in the original chats and need to be downloaded again if you want to view them.

Can you please try using some file explorer app & see whether you can find out the pics you downloaded earlier through WhatsApp?
Many a time WhatsApp tries to hide the media folder visibility to other apps. Then we can have a look at that only through some file explorer app.

I write to you to report a bug with the iOS Google Photos app. When I open the app, it freezes and won't let me touch anything. I can't manage my photos, my account, it remains non responsive. 

I have an iPhone 7 running iOS 12.4 and every other Google app is working perfectly (Youtube, Google Maps, Google Translate, Chrome). Photos is the only app giving me trouble. I want to make a backup copy of my photos that I have on my phone and I can't do it. Last time I did a backup was a week ago and everything worked alright. 

I have since updated the app to the last version possible (5.39), turned off and on my device and even deleted and reinstalled the app!

I know this can't be linked to the storage of my account because I still have plenty available and as you all know until June 1st 2021 Google Photos isn't taking any storage up from the free 15GB.

Please help me!

To avoid backing up the pics downloaded through Facebook, you can 

• either move these to some other folder that is not getting backed up
• Or using some file explorer app rename any downloaded file as .nomedia (Please note this file has no name but only extension. Before doing so, you have to enable viewing of hidden files through the settings of the explorer)

That will stop the FB pics from getting uploaded to Google Photos.
